« New leaked image of proposed Spurs Stratford stadium | Main | Levy responds »

What's wrong with this picture?

I'd expect a better mock up if the OS is awarded to Spurs, then the designers can go to town much like they did with the now dead in the water Northumberland Development Project (it's dead in the water). At the moment however, we are teased with a rather strange single piece illustration. Not sure what irks me more. The buildings central in the background or the tall red monstrosity looking down at the stadium (never red damn you!). Don't even get me started on the break dancers. I can see it now. Headhunters v the Spurs Yoof. Body popping in Burberry.

Couple of other things in there that hardly appeal to the common football fan, but yes, it's a mock up and if you look closely to some of the design photos of the NDP they actually included a skating rink.

RIP Football, eh?

Levy on TalkSport...listen here.

Click on image to enlarge, if you wish to make your eyes bleed

Once more, I'm placing my hope that Levy is masking his true intentions. Would hardly make sense to tell us there will be a referendum then once more brutally state that there is no option available other than a move to East London. Unless his mind is getting cloudy with the PR soundbites (unlikely).

To further cement the contradictions, note the usage of the word 'current' in his comments on the NDP being dead in the water. Reading too much into it, am I? Then again, if my hope that this is a grand game of poker rings true, what if we are awarded the OS? I guess, either way - Levy will get what he wants. Just no pleasing all of us I'm afraid.

Also - couple of things I saw this morning that made me giggle.

“I don’t think running tracks work, particularly behind the goal. The customers are so far back it doesn’t work" - David Sullivan

Make your minds up.

And from early 2010 just for larfs:

"The bigger dream is for West Ham fans to have a football stadium. He (Coe) can have an athletics track elsewhere. We would offer tickets at £5 a go for some matches. We can bring Premier League football back to the people" - David Sullivan

Prem League football....in the Championship! It's revolutionary! This is the best from the same article from early 2010:

"Karren is a good businesswoman but she doesn't understand football"

Astute.

Yes, yes, Levy has contradicted himself aplenty with the promises and shattered dreams but I'm beginning to wonder whether his greatest weapon is West Ham's inability to fight their corner. Or if you believe in the conspiracy theory, it's possibly the greatest threat to remaining in N17. Mainly because even with all the bad hype about Spurs and the legacy, many involved in the process of seleciton see the Spurs bid as being more viable (hate that word).

But as mentioned already, either way Levy will win.

Anyone for badminton?

Stadium design - yes
Overall - no

we need a bigger stadium, I'd say there is about 10% of fans who'd prefer the idea of moving to stratford on the basis of either not liking N17 or the transport links, about 89.5% of fans who would prefer/want the new stadium in N17, and maybe 0.5% who don't want to redevelop (there is always one or two). Though I can see the referendum being a move to stratford to a world class stadium, lots of cash etc, or a sty in whl with no new development or potential for new stadium in N17, question,

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:34 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

Love how Sullivan calls the fans 'customers' I know all of them are in it for the money but come on.

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterMatt

Is the new stadium modelled on VdV's grandad's shoe, and how thoughtful to include a little, er, green square for the disabled to wheel their stuff.

Maybe if they unraveled that red thing, they could build a direct line to Canary Wharf for all the new fans.

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

I think it looks good and if it does all that he says it does then even better. As for the red thing its an observation tower to look over the city. The fact its red has nothing to do with spurs even though, Spurs had two red lions on their shirt for well over 10 years! well......... wots the problem?

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:38 AM | Unregistered CommenterRonyid

It's not red, it's rust - works for me, just

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterFrank

Levy's comments were well timed, as you might expect. Could momentum be swinging behind the Spurs bid at the 11th hour? Stadium design looks good, but the overall impression looks like it was cobbled together by a failing GCSE design student. 4/10 could do better.

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterBig Fish

I think levy is right to play hard ball and look at the best financial option for the club. That said, event if ten thousands fans don't want to move to stratford and won't support spurs there ... there are still about 36 thousands fans on the waiting list. Levy has the luxury to lose 12 thousands fans and still fill a 60 thousands seater ... just a thought

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:44 AM | Unregistered CommenterRamsesV

TMWNN - while all spurs fans views are valid, your an idiot, "green square for the disabled to wheel their stuff" what relevance has that got in regard to a potential move to stratford? as for the red steel structure yeah I'm not a fan of the structure, or the colour for that matter, but if you look at the kit from 1890-96 we used to play in a red top!

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:44 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

Skysports are being total drama queens too, theyve decided that Levy said this morning's broadcast on talksport that hes abandoned the NPD altogether, total bollocks, he said "as it stands it isnt viable". He also said that "given a choice between the NPD which ISNT AN OPTION (at present) and Stratford then im confident 99% of the fans will back us in the move to Stratford". The media can and do make any statement look how they want to in order gain attention or provoke debate.

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:47 AM | Unregistered CommenterYidmeister

For those of you that insist on remaing in N17, which I understand, and believe you are in the majority I think you are very much mistaken. I don't see/hear that much protest coming form the WHL faitful and when push comes to shove the vast majority will welcome a move to Stratford. Why, because it makes sense once you get over the nostalgia associated with N17. They keep delaying the decsion to see if the Spammers can have a dramatic revival to keep them in the prem, but deep down they know they will be Championship bound and therefore not suitbale candidates, not that they would be anyway eh! Perhaps we could have the Horny Helen Stand and I could entertain you lovely boys at half time with a spot of pole dancing. HHXX

TMWNN is a blatant gooner on a wind up, anyone who cant see that probably also thinks we dont need a bigger stadium

there is some plank on talksport who is a west ham fan talking about some sort of fantasy west ham season ticket waiting list, if anyone wants to waste some money you can go and buy a west ham season ticket today,

Feb 8, 2011 at 9:54 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

I'm going to melt my season ticket card and throw it onto the pitch next home game.

I keep seeing the word "referendum ". Are we sure that's what DL said? Didn't the transcript of the wearen17/Cullen/Levy meeting quote "consultation"? Quite different methinks

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterFrank

You summed it up Spooky in your last paragraph... Spurs will win the bid based upon the Spammer's board being completely inept and totally out of their league when it comes to these sort of negotiations.

It should become Wet Spam's stadium, no doubt, but they've made a right royal fuck up from start to finish. Main reason's being that since it all started they've been in shit loads of debt, haven't a pot to piss in, having to borrow a further £40m from the tax payer to support their bid and have a shit squad languishing at the bottom of the Prem. Brady's comments are as desperate as a bid for Charlie Adam at 22:30 on Transfer Deadline Day, and all of her statements are based upon nothing other than contradictory fluff... she's in effect writing the Wet Spam bid eulogy before they've even lost it... why they haven't muzzled her already is beyond me!

THFC's bid in the other hand will be slick, all angles covered and all boxes ticked... and last but by no means least, they have the finances to back it up. A fair few million thrown in the hat for East London and their local economy, a fair few million thrown to Tottenham including a brand new housing development and shopping centre, and a fair few million given to South London for their Olympics Athletics legacy...

Not sure it's a game of poker, this is Plan A, it includes the ultimate goal of global domination and they've thrown everything at it... whether the decision will be based upon a scoring system or just the swaying of opinions of a few individuals I cannot see any other winner of this bid than THFC.

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:16 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

Apparently a Nandos and a Slug and Lettuce...

This picture is just some form of teaser, the unseen images of the development and stadium as a whole will be different class and the fact is those sitting on the fence I think will be swayed by the shiny shiny.

Grating Brady strikes again.

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:18 AM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

I've been visiting WHL and away games all my life (35+ years and many hundreds of games). I feel like I SHOULD be outraged by the prospect of leaving N17 but I'm not sure I am.

I'd prefer us to stay there, of course, but in all honesty - like a lot of Spurs fans I suspect - my mind is not made up. It really isn't. Perhaps it is because I am originally from Essex and not the immediate area (although I suspect this is also true of many fans) but I do not feel like burning the many Spurs shirts sat in the wardrobe.

In fact, I can't imagine ANYTHING making me want to do that.

I'm also not sure I like the idea of a hyper-expensive move to the NDP site and then 5 years (at least) with no big money transfers (as Wenger has had to endure).

My mind is not made up. It would be admirable, I'm sure, to bang my chest and talk about destroying the heart of the club (which the move might, of course) but I'm not convinced. I also cannot help feeling that Mr Levy has kept backing the club financially, even when it embarrassed him to do so (the Ramos climb down). Many say he's just doing this to sell the club. If he wanted to risk hundreds of millions over ten years or so simply to double his money then he should have gone into the gas business.

COYS.

Next time you call someone an idiot, make sure you know the difference between 'your' and 'you are'. It makes you look a bit stupid otherwise.

You'RE (look it's not difficult) correct, the the little green square and the red roller coaster have nothing to do with Stratford, but then again, THFC have nothing to do with Stratford whatsoever.

ChrisYid,

You've convinced yourself that I'm a gooner (purely on the fact that I'm 100% against shutting down THFC) just as easily as Levy has convinced you and your ilk that staying in Tottenham is impossible.

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

I think the big red thing is a shower for TMP so he can finally stand up and wash his hair at the same time.

If you zoom in on the picture on the right hand side by the stadium, there is a mysterious dark figure with a baseball cap and sunglasses. It might be Robbie Keane trying to sneak into the stadium for some Premiership bench warming rather than facing a trip away to Doncaster with the Spammers in 2012...

Karren v Levy ( and Harry) over three rounds behind the bike sheds at WHL.
You mean there wasn't a Preservation order on the bike sheds?

Even so against both of them Ms Bradey would probably win it.
Not such a good idea then.

Levy has advanced his devious plan to rid London of spammers by loaning Keane(his pointing and shouting while not scoring many goals will disrupt team moral) to them,Karren and Sullie are made uphold the Running Track which will make it better to watch Championship Football from the TV for Spammers, hence less revenue, break the local council if or when they back westspam, this is one BIG BUBBLE that will blow the spammers to the lower regions.COS

I am getting fed up of people claiming most Spurs fans want to stay in N17 when the truth is they haven't actually been asked, presumably its the old political technique that if you repeat something often enough people will believe that its true. How the decision on the stadium goes will depend on the basis used for the decision. If its a political decision West Ham will win, if its done on financial grounds we will. If West Ham win I am quite sure they will ditch the running track at the first opportunity.

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:36 AM | Unregistered Commenterjod

DY @ 10:05,

I agree with every word of that, good post.

The only people who have a chance of stopping this are the fans. Sadly, due to apathy, greed (from fans and ENIC/AEG) and lies, it looks like the end of the road for Tottenham in Tottenham.

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:38 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

TMWNN - fair enough point, I made a mistake with my spelling. Though I'd rather not be able to spell properly than be an offensive idiot, like you.

Gerard - the figures are just what I think, based on what I read / hear people saying, what do you think the numbers are like?

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:42 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

Anyone who believes the club belongs to him is entitled to his opinion. Anyone who wants Spurs to remain a mediocre club because he believes most important thing is to stay where they have been located last decades and play in a 36k stadium is entitled to do so. Also is entitled to his opinion anyone who wants the club to become world-class and because he doesn't have himself the means and the plans to finance the rebuilding of a new bigger stadium in the same place he is obliged to follow the decisions of those who can finance the move. To whom does the club belong? To those who have season tickets or/and follow the team in away games? To those who are register on the waiting season ticket list and hardly can get one? To those who never go to its games or do it sporadic but write often their opinion to club's forums and buy Spurs products? To those who are financially responsible for the existence of the club? To those fans who prefer to walk always the same old path to WHL and drink their beers in the same old pubs before and after a game independently if the club remains a mediocre team? To those who want Spurs to become a great club but only by staying at Tottenham or otherwise in North London but they don't have themselves the financial means to support such a move next couple of years or even longer? To those who want Spurs to become a team who can attract and be able to pay high level players and challenge every year domestic or/and international titles independently where they are going to move inside London if they just keep its current name? Does it belong to all the estimated 20 million Spurs fans worldwide? Who has the right to take decisions for and on behalf of Spurs after all?

Cheers TMWNN, I too fear the writing's on the wall for THFC staying in N17.

So to surmise (in Levy speak): The NDP isn't currently viable because the OS is currently far more viable...

Does anyone know when the official announcement will be made?

Feb 8, 2011 at 10:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

The biggest issue is the photo/mock up looks ridiculous where as they captured something might fine with the NDP, inclusion of ice rink I guess is something that would probably not be included in a final design (I would hope) if the whole thing wasn't dead in the water.

I would have thought the Stratford mock-up could have been used as a tasty piece to appease us (anti-movers). Sort of failed massively, for me personally. They've hardly captured my heart with it.

sfreundwasaleg,

I think it's far closer than that. Possibly as much 30% for the move, 35% against and 35% not fussed. I can see the merits of moving to Stratford but would prefer, if possible, to find another site in N. London with good transport links. Alas, that's the problem; those kind of sites don't grow on trees

What a patronising sanctimonious bitch. The promises that we make blah blah blah. gerard - perhaps I wasn't clear enough before, I was trying to imply that IF there was no financial difference between the two sites, that most fans would prefer to stay in N17. I know a lot of the pro stratford fans, are pro stratford due to the financial reasons, as opposed to the fans who want out of N17.

I agree with you that there are probably as many fans up for the move as there are against it.

Feb 8, 2011 at 11:07 AM | Unregistered Commentersfreundwasaleg

The ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture has nothing to do with Spurs.

What I do find interesting is that so far Spurs have provided images and details of a proposed Crystal Palace renovation, image and details a of the proposed Olympic park site, with stadium and well thought out and presented proposals for the whole park and it's use. Seems like quite a professional bid (regardless of where your N17/Stratford opinions reside...)

Whereas West Ham.... I don't believe that they have released any presentations showing stadium, park facilities, details of usage or anything whatsoever. They appear to be just content with saying that they'll keep the running track and that's all the evidence of a coherent and well thought out bid that they require. That and bad mouthing Spurs with nonsens.e and bile at every opportunity. I could be mistaken and would love to see some images or details West Ham's proposals. At the moment, it all seems, well, very amateurish on their behalf. It makes you wonder whether the OPLC can take them seriously.

edit: found a photo of West Ham's stadium proposal.....they've painted it claret and blue and moved the floodlights.....£90m to do that apparently........looks like great value for Newham taxpayers.....lol
