Quote of the Day

Quote of the Day plucked out of Glory Glory.co.uk from this forum thread about Harry Redknapp talking out about the farce at OT and being threatened with an FA slap of the wrist for his ranting. With thanks to Danners 9 for the wise words.

One of the big issues after a game is dragging a player or manager in front of the camera to ask retarded questions, then being able to fine them if they speak out of turn, but making the referees untouchable.

Why should a manager or player be asked an emotive question after a controversial event and let the one who made the decision get away without the same questioning?

It should be a transparent sport, there shouldn't be the opportunity to cover up mistakes. The same scrutiny process should apply throughout

Unfortunately transparency is about as likely as Rio Ferdinand tweeting in Queens English.

And onwards we go.

The problem is managers like Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes who blame the manager every week regardless of whether the decision was correct and how it affected the game. Harry Redknapp rightly called Mark Clattenburg out for some terrible officiating.
I, personally, am not keep to see an end of interviews immediately after games.

Beautifully put.

Sky et al LOVE it when managers say things "out of term"; it gets the viewers to tune in. Redknapp like Jol, always says things with some dignity, not like Mr Myopic, red nose, Brucie, that Welsh chap at Fulham and that fat twat at Blackburn who constantly bleat about every minor mistake. I don't see that bunch of knobs down at Soho chasing after them for 20k fine which our boss could well land up with. If Skysports, ITV, BBC etc want to speak to managers and ask probing questions then they should be prepared for open, honest and sometimes near the knuckle responses, not re-hashed crap that really deserves a fine.

My gut feeling is that our Arry has called their bluff and that the FA will quietly leave this alone.

How come HR gets done by the FA and yet no action is taken against Scholes for grabbing hold of the ref when he refused to give them a pen ?
Are all these refs terrified of Fergie ?

Nov 1, 2010 at 9:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

The minute Harry mentioned any kind of dishonesty he was in trouble.
It was poor that the ref didnt see the handball, and he is at fault for that. Harry is at fault for implying dishonesty, and that will see him charged in my opinion.
The goalkeeper should have known better though. If he had been concentrating, none of this would have happened, and Nani grabbing the ball would be forgotten about by now.
Absolutely shocking though, to be fair, that the ref just didnt see it at all.

Rio Ferdinand looks like Jesus Quintana .

transparency in football???
bloody unlikely. ever wondered why football resists the introduction of technology?
FIFA is corrupt. FA is corrupt. REFS are human therefore corrupt. players are cheats and managers like eednose encourage it.
every major sport even cricket strive to minimise human error, football strives to increase this element. why?
technology will make things fairer and football does not want that. results will continue to be engineered. media interest and influence will take precedence. dont forget sky tried to buy manure.
anyone who seeks to justify that goal or that ref is an enemy of football. if you love football as a game or sport of eleven vs eleven then the EPL is not football it is now an empire, just another big corporate entity.
history tells us all empires fall, all large corporations fall and it usually starts from within.

Harry is a beauty. When called a wheeler dealer by Rob Palmer from SKY he told him to 'fuck off''. End of Interview. The absolute frankness of his outburst was just wonderful. It's Harry in all his glory. Now he's telling the FA, the BBC, Sky and ITV to fuck off. Good on yer Harry, the FA won't dare bring you to task. They are fucking faceless cowards and Clattenberg is a disgrace to refeering.

I think its a certainty he will be charged.
He brought the game into disrepute. Its always charged.

Nov 1, 2010 at 10:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Surely it was Twattenberg who brought the game into disrepute and not Harry.

While I understand that he's angry and can't blame him for what he did, I wish Harry had kept his cool on this one. Best just to move on from this whole disgusting thing. Big takeaway for me is that we were alright. Could have been better but we are much closer than we've been to beating United at OT. The goal left a bad taste but it really didn't matter at all. Onward and upward.

Just read his interview. I take it all back. I'm with Harry 100%

We all know that the incident was farcical and very questionable, so I won't regurgitate point by point what happened during play, as we already know that, but if some folk are suggesting that Clatten-cunt gestured that we had the advantage and therefore to play on, then this is also non-sense, by virtue of the fact that I question the definition of the advantage rule if the opposition (offending player) is standing over the damn ball - so how the bloody hell can we play advantage in the first place !

I just can't accept what the goings on happened between the lino and Clatten-cunt - the lino flags acknowledging to the Spurs players that he unequivocally 1000% saw Nani palm handle the ball (immediate booking) - explains to Clatten-cunt what he saw - at this point there is absolutely no grounds for Clatten-cunt to overrule an intentional handball for anything else - so what could have Clatten-cunt possibly have said that justified to the lino to oppose it ???

Must have been a case of "Look into my eyes, my eyes, look into my eyes - you did not see that hand ball did you - and your back in the room." To which the lino replies "Yup, you're right, there was no way I saw a handball - I just thought I would fly my poncy flag in the air so that you would come over and that I could wrap my arm around you and whisper to you sweet nothings of how I'm going to..."

In American football, doesn't the referee turn to the crowd and explain on a mic what his decision is that has been made there and then ?

I must have missed it, but did Scholes push the ref when he didn't give the penalty?

Makes giving Modric a yellow for dissent even more farcical than not displaying clarity over the supposed 'advantage'.

Nov 2, 2010 at 7:49 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Yeah definitely shoved him in the back.

Nov 2, 2010 at 8:51 AM | Unregistered CommenterMattyblamblam

Ref applied 2 totally different sets of rules to the 2 teams on Saturday.
His failure to take any action against Scholes for grabbing hold of him ( you can see this from the shots on Sky taken from the goal at the far end of the ground ) combined with Rio joining in the officals debate re the goal whilst Modric is booked for trying to speak to the officals re the same incident, the bookings for 2 of our players for first offences whilst none of theirs were booked for making equally poor tackles, the failure to book Nani for repeated diving, handball, dissent, it's just a joke.
What do Utd players have to do to get a booking ?
Appears a lot of these officials are terrified of upsetting Utd/ Fergie.
On the same subject, Fergie has refused to speak to BBC after matches for 5 years.
A meeting was held 2 weeks ago to decide what punishment should be applied to him.
So far, nothing has happened.

Thanks everyone - makes for very interesting reading.

I have not seen what HR said, but I fully support whatever it is. If he needs help, I would be happy to volunteer.

The a****oles who claim Clatterberg was "technically correct" are lying gits. No one, not even the commentators nor the players themselves knew exactly what was going on. With the benefit of hindsight, it is very easy to come up with self-serving statements on how wrong Gomes was. Fact is, no one was sure what was going on. Nani simply took the position, if in doubt, put it in first and discuss later.

The ego and stubborness of Clatterberg is disappointing.

The silence of the Referee's Assn or whatever it is called on the incident is disappointing.

The audacity of the FA to charge or threaten to charge HR for comments stinks of a antiquated organisation who is more concerned about the integrity of the referee (which is surely outdated and a convenient excuse to trot out) rather than the fact that most non-Man U fans would simply view this as as unsportsmanlike, not to also mention that it will be perceived as another incident decided in favour of Manure.

There are wider implications to this. Future generations are already being brought up on the win at all costs mentality. If you can take advantage of any situation, no matter how undignified it makes you, so long as you win, then it's okay.

If football is the only sport that stubbornly refuses to embrace technology or common sense, then we become the laughing stock for others. I hope no one (and here I mean those who are not true fans) becomes disillusioned and moves onto another sport or team.

Is it correct to assume that most media outlets would only air the views of Manure supporters "gloating" or irate Spurs fans? I am sure most fans of other clubs would either sympathise with us or call it a farcical moment. Let's hear what Chelski or L'Arse or even ManCity have to say if they are pipped for whatever position on goal difference of +1 at the end of the season by Manure.

I'm awaiting Rio Ferdinands thoughts on the 'arry outburst, after all, his opinions are the only one worth listening too.....

Nov 2, 2010 at 11:04 AM | Unregistered CommenterNayim

Harry can't NOT talk to the media so he won't be banning them!
