Who the hell does Joe Cole think he is?

Who the hell does Joe Cole think he is? Not only has he rejected his father figure and original mentor (Harry) and a chance to remain within the pinnacle of civilisation (London, obviously) with a critical role in a side that has qualified for the Champions League qualifiers, he's chosen instead a mid-table club on the slide, living off the past, where he will earn untold thousands per week to prance about in front of held-up scarfs and humourous red banners. Gutless for him to select guaranteed first team football at a smaller club than fighting for his place and overcoming squad rotation at the superior one.

What a mercenary, selecting the option of more money and a far more comfortable ride. These modern day players with their agents and their long term contracts and lack of ambition. Obviously knows he has little self-confidence, hunger and focus for the Champions League and prefers the less pressurised arena of the Europa League.

Cole obviously harbours dreams of dicking us (and his family of Spurs supporting fanatics) in said competition when we crash out of the CL and face the might of Anfield. Marquee signing for Liverpool. Torres, Mascherano or Gerrard and Cole...fourmid(t)able.

But don't fret, we have goal-keeping cover with Pletikosa on its way.

Dark days for THFC. We are down to the bare bones now with only Modric, Bale and Kranjcar vying for the left hand midfield position. We might even have to experiment again with Lennon there.

RIP, The dream is over.

Let's all pray we succeed in signing Craig Bellamy. I can't be having two knock-backs in the space of a week.

All this is allegedly:

Arsenal offered 80k - 2 year deal.
Spurs offered 65k - 3 year deal.
West Ham offered 100k per week - 3 year deal.
Liverpool signed him on 90k - 4 year deal.

Although there is a whisper that the Liverpool deal Cole accepted was 110k per week and £8M signing on fee.

MONEY GRABBER !!!111

WHERE WAS THE GUARANTEED FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL AND WAGE-STRUCTURE-DESTROYING WEEKLY WAGE OFFER?

First Duff, then Petrov...heads will roll at Spurs HQ. Never rated Cole anyways. One trick pony.

When Liverpool go to Blackpool, do you think the kids there will all run up to Joey Cole and say. I want a ride, me next me next!

Now for Bellamy to reject us and take 200K per week from the Hammers.

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterGrim down south

Judging by how he likes to wear them tight shorts, Joke 'Ole should be on early 1980s wages anyway.

We need the following as back up: Sensational striker; holding midfielder; left back; centre half.
We do not need: Bentley JJ Keane or Hutton. Flog 'em and then Flog 'em.

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterHazard

I heard Cole was on his way to Spurs, practically, but had his head turned at the 90K. Cole can bang on about playing central but Harry did state that was his best position, so if he's gone to Liverpool for footballing reasons that must also include money, being Spurs would be football reasons but less money.

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterGrrr

I would not have said no to Cole. But part of me thinks its for the best. Let's not marginalise the likes of Huddlestone.

Im looking forward to the disappointment of not getting Craig Bellamy and signing top players like Ashley Young Agbonlahor and Curtis...whatever his name is mid table mediocrity here we come ....again

Well Joe Cole You Lie. You Said you want football not money but you went to Liverpool for money. Could of gone to Tottenham for Champions League

Time will tell if he made the right decision as far as football is concerned, but he will be laughing all the way to the bank.Unless of course the Anfield cheque bounces after all the cowboy shysters are the ones who hold the purse strings. But 30 years from now on those cold winter nights when you sit in the armchair and think back on your life and wonder what if?. For a player who was so highly thought of and was such a prospect to end up as a bench warmer at Chelsea and now quite possibly Liverpool.I think it is a crying shame that players who have so much potential end up rich but unfulfilled,Loads of money but a forgotten face in the crowd when he could have been a god, what a waste.

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:59 PM | Unregistered Commentercol

Joe Cole is no big loss, for his wages he certainly isn't worth it all things considered like the amount of games he would actually play without getting an injury, the amount of goals he won't score and the assists he won't provide. Mark my words, Joe Cole's best option was Liverpool, we're much better off with the hungry youngsters coming through!

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterSal Lazzo

Signing Suarez and/or huntelaar should just about get us over the dissapointment!!...on another note, the turan link might be worth pursuing now? Younger faster club captain, not a club whore, cheaper and keen to prove his premier ship worth. I think either way we have enough creative quality in modric, dos santos, Lennon, krankjar, bale and hudd. Maybe a left back and move bale forward is an option...marquee striker first me thinks though, that'll settle us fans and lift us after this bad news!!

Jul 19, 2010 at 9:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterLennon7

jeez, i can't believe what i'm reading here. missing out on cole i think is a blessing in disguise for spurs. we already have a lot of cole like players at the club, and on money that wont break the club. didn't always think it, but would rather have bellamy to graft and for the speed. aslong as he dosent break the wage cap. cole is a good signing for liverpool, but the havent the players to split defences we have. good luck to cole and them, but i'm more interested in who we'll get now with the money we've saved from not having to pay cole, coys!!

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:07 PM | Unregistered Commenterandy

'Liverpool are a smaller club.' Lol. I like it! Course, I've been saying this for years, what with the Mighty having won the Double when Liverpool were fresh out of the second division. But it's nice to see the masses finally following suit!!!

Now, a wise old couple once said that 'It's lucky for Spurs when the year ends in one.' First London club to win the Champions League? See you at Wembley! :)

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:09 PM | Unregistered CommenterStratty

Spooky is back off the meds. Finally.

If Liverpool did pay Cole £8M signing on fee, can someone tell me where they are getting the money from? Are the owners allowing the club to spend money made on outgoing players on new ones? Thought Liverpool were broke.

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:09 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

Can someone tell me what Cole was going to give us that was worth paying that much silly money for.Thats why the pool and manure are in money problems.Well its really the yanks but hey lets blame the greddy players and agents.

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:11 PM | Unregistered Commenterdavy

I hope he enjoys travelling ten million miles in order to be shouted at by Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher in the pouring rain at a ground that looks like the surface of Mike Tyson's face, while getting accquainted with the new world-class signings Roy promised him were coming, namely Konchesky, Baird and 'The New Older Torres', Bobby Zamora, all while getting hammered by Rabotnicki FC.

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterDubaiSpur

He wants to play every week.
Once they sell Torres and Gerrard he will have a choice of positions.

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

we got a better player than Joe Cole in Gio Dos santos and he can't get a game !

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpurt

It would be a cruel irony if he goes home to find Terry in bed with Carly Zucker while he was away in Liverpool signing his deal. "I thought you was gone for four years, Joe bruv,it was just a quick nip in, honest,I ain't done nothing. "

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

Joe Cole is the reflection of English Footballer at a major tournament..A bottler when it is the crunch time, an easy rider when the going gets tough, Take the easy option, grabb the money..Looking at him makes you realise why England do fuck all at major tournaments..

You boys have missed nothing other than a master of the stepover and a promising lad who never matured. Many of us at CFC are not sorry to see Slow Cole go, it was always about money with him and not the football. He will get first team football but has he any chance at all of understanding what on earth Ickle Me and Carragher are shouting at him?!

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterRanners

good article spooky, but let Joe Cole rot up north! i would have been more upset if we had brought that little mercenary in as one of our highest paid players (65k i think) Modders, Hudd, Wilson, Niko, Mikey dawson, Gomes etc etc all played a huge part last year and if that lil money grabbing pikey came in on a better deal then them i would be gutted. Good ridance Joe!

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterEssex_yid

What do you mean " UP NORTH ? "
Woy told me Liverpool was in London.

Jul 19, 2010 at 10:50 PM | Unregistered Commenterjoe cole

Well honestly I'm not terribly devastated by this snub. Cole is a bit of alright but I reckon we're pretty good in the midfield anyway. I really hope that we manage to sign 'the nutter...', for that would be one snub that would put me off this summer.
Back on cole, he's a greedy, money grubbing madman...clearly. I'm mildly interested to know how Liverfailure F.C plans to pay him this gross salary...magic i could only imagine....
Its not all doom and gloom yet though my fellow Spurs! We still have some time left in this window....never mind city and their world class squad that we have the pleasure/misfortune of playing at the beginning of the season.
HA - And now for an amusing piece of failing and far unlikely piece of news - Joey Barton linked to spurs - HAHAHAHAH, Nonsense.

Jul 19, 2010 at 11:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterBim Spur

Chelsea fan in peace......joe cole at his best you may have missed out, the jole cole of the last 2 yrs nahh. He spent the best part of 2 seasons injured, came back and played terribly (1 or 2 half decent cameo's aside) then demanded a payrise and to be guaranteed 1st team football. He didnt want to stay and compete at chelsea and apparently didnt fancy the competion for his place at spurs either. I wish him al the best, used to rate him v highly but on last 2 seasons performances he isnt worth 40k let alone 90k.

Jul 19, 2010 at 11:34 PM | Unregistered Commenterlewis

I love it when Spurs fans write silly articles about LFC 'Living in the past'!! Lots of Spurs sites have this. When was the last time you won a trophy? One site even called our 2005 Champions League win a 'fluke'! Ignore the FA cup after, and the treble before those, and the second CL final just after. Just compare how many trophies LFC has won in this decade, to how many Spurs have won?
At least we have a 'silver' past, worth remembering!
You've not even fully qualified for the CL properly yet, and even if you do, you'll still struggle to get there next year because of all the money City are spending.

Crackpots. Delusional. You're in Arsenal's shadow, let alone LFC's, 18 league titles, 5 Euro cups, 3 Uefa. etc.

To finish, if Cole had signed for Spurs, you'd all have said 'massive signing', and because of that, you are all hypocrites.

D.

THANK GOD ! we never needed him ,don't know what harry was thinking ,signing him would have been going back to the bad old days of having a team full of mercenaries ,how times have changed eh ,POOR LIVERPOOL

Jul 20, 2010 at 12:35 AM | Unregistered CommenterHuseyin

Jacob,
There is no denying Liverpool's pedigree but recently your star has faded and it does not look like it will shine again in the very near future. Tottenham too have known better times but we are on the rise again after far far too long. Cole went for the money, simple. The opportunity to play in the CL as opposed to playing in the Europa which would you choose? He has to fight to play every game, if he was as good as he seems to think he is he would be picked every for game, simple. He bottled it, look at who he has to outshine at the pool as opposed to Spurs to play every week. I have no doubt Liverpool will be a force again but he is 29, he will be at least 30 before he gets the chance to play in the CL. Delusional? Liverpool live in their own shadow!! This season Spurs are in the CL and Liverpool are not, next season who knows. At 12:00 on the 14th August we are all on 0 points, May is a long way away. Cole was never going to be a "massive signing" for Spurs, a squad player at best, I think you's have been robbed mate!

COYS!!!

Jul 20, 2010 at 12:54 AM | Unregistered CommenterMalSpur

luckily we didn't sign this twat - i think we're good with who we have, the important thing is to keep modders fit. heck that cole, he's playing in the Europa league next season - and that's where he and his new team mates deserve to be.

Jul 20, 2010 at 1:56 AM | Unregistered CommenterJC

Wish cole all the best at Liverpool.Im glad that Tottenham and come to that even the arse both kept to their wage structures and did not cave in to either his or his agents demands. That said at 29 he had to get him self the best deal.Besides for all his undoubted talent ,he has looked a lot slower in recent outings and its probably in our best interest that he did not come to us or for that matter even the arse. The one thing that most of the Liverpool fans seem to be over looking in this signing is their ever deeper financial debt and now with Cole added. It getting even bigger.Perhaps torres will have to go to suppliment those Hodgson hopes to brin g in.

Jul 20, 2010 at 4:47 AM | Unregistered Commenterbrian

Dear Jacob...
Get back to pissing in the pocket of whoever's next to you on the Kop and other amusing Scouser japes. You've paid silly money for a bloke with a face like an arse, whose definition of 'skill' is a pussy stepover. We'll stick with the midfield we've got thanks. Enjoy the Europa League btw and those fun trips to Kazakhstan.

I'm a Liverpool fan reading these posts from you deluded fans. your gonna sit there and talk about how he went there for the money. have you actually forgotten that he has signed for Liverpool football club you mugs. what coz you finished above us for the first time in 143 years all of a sudden your a bigger club. hahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahaha don't make me laugh. you came up to anfield this season and we done you with our reserves. lets be honest lads if Torres was fit all season you would have been battling city for 5th. Liverpool are a smaller club than spurs hahahahahahahhahaha thanks for making my day.

Jul 20, 2010 at 7:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

So another player West Ham have offered ridiculous money for evenn though they are heavily in debt! I cant stand those Gold and Sullivan mugs, constantly talking about the perilous situation of the clubs finances when they took over and yet offering £1000k to cole, presumably a similar amount to Henry when they tried for him, £40k a week for that Piquonne bloke they just signed after a half successfull season with Pompey, same for Benni McCarthy but this time on a three year deal, he's about 32 already!

Mugs...not a clue. And i thought that Karen Brady was suppossed to be a smart lass. If they go down again or go bust it will be down to this kind of financial madness instead of investing and relying on the youth academy that has done so well for them.

Oh well, if they did go down i wouldnt shed a tear, they hate us more than Arse or Chelski for some reason and i'll never forget how they celebrated after Lasagnagate...no class...

Jul 20, 2010 at 7:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterGoldSpur

It's the same old same old at tottenham. We are 'to tight to challenge'!!! It has always been the same. Thi sis why this year when we are so close to actually challenging we won't increase the wage structure and we wont spend the money to really challenge!! The way Daniel Levy thinks is that we don;t need many changes!!! His logic on the wage strcuture is totally floored!! when you pay a lot of money for rubbish like Bent. My Prediction...no cole, no bellemy and no major signings...maybe the odd cheap buy. After a great season we will failt to build on it..we all know it:(
