Who the hell does Joe Cole think he is?

Who the hell does Joe Cole think he is? Not only has he rejected his father figure and original mentor (Harry) and a chance to remain within the pinnacle of civilisation (London, obviously) with a critical role in a side that has qualified for the Champions League qualifiers, he's chosen instead a mid-table club on the slide, living off the past, where he will earn untold thousands per week to prance about in front of held-up scarfs and humourous red banners. Gutless for him to select guaranteed first team football at a smaller club than fighting for his place and overcoming squad rotation at the superior one.

What a mercenary, selecting the option of more money and a far more comfortable ride. These modern day players with their agents and their long term contracts and lack of ambition. Obviously knows he has little self-confidence, hunger and focus for the Champions League and prefers the less pressurised arena of the Europa League.

Cole obviously harbours dreams of dicking us (and his family of Spurs supporting fanatics) in said competition when we crash out of the CL and face the might of Anfield. Marquee signing for Liverpool. Torres, Mascherano or Gerrard and Cole...fourmid(t)able.

But don't fret, we have goal-keeping cover with Pletikosa on its way.

Dark days for THFC. We are down to the bare bones now with only Modric, Bale and Kranjcar vying for the left hand midfield position. We might even have to experiment again with Lennon there.

RIP, The dream is over.

Let's all pray we succeed in signing Craig Bellamy. I can't be having two knock-backs in the space of a week.

All this is allegedly:

Arsenal offered 80k - 2 year deal.
Spurs offered 65k - 3 year deal.
West Ham offered 100k per week - 3 year deal.
Liverpool signed him on 90k - 4 year deal.

Although there is a whisper that the Liverpool deal Cole accepted was 110k per week and £8M signing on fee.

MONEY GRABBER !!!111

WHERE WAS THE GUARANTEED FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL AND WAGE-STRUCTURE-DESTROYING WEEKLY WAGE OFFER?

First Duff, then Petrov...heads will roll at Spurs HQ. Never rated Cole anyways. One trick pony.

Jacob and other Liverpool fans. Spooky is taking the piss out of Spurs fans not Liverpool fans. Read the article again. Stunned I have to point this out to you. Considering how comically astute you are meant to be.

I have read spooky article. very good . I wander what it would have read if cole signed for spurs. personally I think levy has mugged Arry right off by not signing cole. Harry must feel like a right bell end right about now. it almost reminds me of rafa. going on and on and on about Gareth Barry and then not signing him and losing alonso at the same time. listen lads your forgetting 1 thing you never have and never will be bigger than lfc. I really hope you qualify for champs league . I said you deserved to get there all day long last season. but a Liverpool you will never be.

Jul 20, 2010 at 7:37 AM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

Watch out for Levy's real secret signings to be announced soon......Heskey, Bellamy and Anton Ferdinand, although Bellamy might not want to take a 300% pay cut.

As back-up over the summer, Modric has been with the SAS in Hereford learning how to shoot, Hudd has had the latest laser-technology added to his boots so that he can work out where the crossbar is so that he can keep the ball below it, and DeFoe, Crouch and Pav have had to watch 5 hours a day of Jimmy Greaves greatest goals in an attempt to show them how to move up-front.

As all funds are concentrated on the new stadium I understand Levy has done a deal on naming rights with a major midlands furniture company and the stadium will be called Mid-table lane.

Am I P****d off with the total lack strengthening action with just 3+ weeks to go before the start of our most important season for years.....just a bit!

Jul 20, 2010 at 8:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterDaveK

The only reason we would be interested in Cole is because he was seen as a bargain, but not at 90K a week. If he was under contract at Chelsea and for sale I doubt we would have been interested. I just feel that sometimes getting a player just because he's free isn't necessarily because he's needed.
It would have been a good signing but not at that wage level. He's no Gazza, though, and this move indicates he seems content to spend his injury downtime at the races with Michael Owen, playing for an underperforming team in transition for at least the next season currently reliant on two crocks, one of which is nearing the end of the road.
By the time Liverpool recover from this slump he'll be the wrong side of 30, and that's assuming Hodgson can do a job. This is the man who paid £7.5m for Kevin Davies over a decade ago and nearly got Blackburn relegated. Can he do the same for Liverpool as he did for Finland? After all, he did emulate the mighty Steve McClaren in getting a bunch of mid-table huffers into the UEFA cup final.
Footballing decision? Nah.

Jul 20, 2010 at 8:57 AM | Unregistered Commenter555

I am glad he didn't sign for us, although i would have preferred it not to have been Liverpool.

For him to play regualrly in the squad, it would either be at the expense of Modric or Bale, or Modric would have to spend a lot of time in the middle, which is not a position i much like him in. I am glad we keep faith with our young stars, dropping them in favour of Cole would have been a step back

Alternatively Cole plays behind the striker. This requires a striker who can play up top on his own...and we don't own one.

A midfield 4 which contained Lennon, Cole, Modric would be very attacking....too attacking unless we were pressing for late goals.

I am happy with Kranjcar. He seems happy with the amount of games he played last season but I am not sure Cole would be.

Unfortunately he has boosted LFC, and a starting berth on the left gives them more balance, although he will provide little cover to the left back that they don't actually have at the moment...i heard SSN mention Knochesky to LFC...now there is a player they are welcome to!

Jul 20, 2010 at 9:31 AM | Unregistered CommenterDevonshirespur

DaveK....relax man...anyone would think Spurs underperformed last season the way you bring down our players.

Sure we need signings but if we started this season with the same lot we ended last season then it would not be a disaster.

Gomes

Corluka King Dawson Bale

Lennon Hudd WP Modric

Pavlyuchenko Defoe

Who would you honestly want to be replacing out of that lot. No one stands out. Maybe we need some more options coming from the bench but unless we get that marquee signing, I cannot see us having to buy to strengthen that starting XI

Devonshirespur,

If we do start the season with Defoe and Pav upfront we must put everything into the CL because there's not a hope in hell we'll be in it the season after.

Andy you must feel a bit of a bellend right now. Scousers only seem to be able to joke when things are going right - all of a sudden you've lost your sense of humour preciscely because an ickle club like Tottingham have finished above you for the first time in 143 years. Get over it. You've won. You've got your skillful (read knows how to do a stepover) player and have paid rafa to piss off finally. When you bid for Barry, you were in desperate need of him after Alonso couldn't wait to leave you. When we bid for Joey Cole, it was a spur of the moment idea, and thankfully we failed to land him as we've frankly got as good if not better already.

And don't forget. You'll never walk to Mecdonia or Armenia alone.

would the money be better spent on new emerging young talent anyway......
from all corners of the globe and especially english if possible

isnt that the future.....for spurs........cole may prove to do a keane at liverpool and return to home base of london
as liverpool reshape the squad .....

Liverpool FC is in net debt to the tune of £351 !!; an increase of £52m from last .season

Jul 20, 2010 at 11:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterBilliospur

trembly. fair play mate, you deserved to finish above us last season, and yes I'm totally gutted that we are gonna be watching Liverpool on a Thursday night in Europe. I have always admired spurs and I can't talk for every lfc fan but I was happy you got into 4th and not city. rafa forced alonso out by going on all the time about Barry. All I'm saying is if Harry was going on about cole and how much he wanted him then levy should have gone balls out to get him. At the end of the day your manager wanted him big time . Liverpool had a poor season last season but that's all it was. we will bounce back this season and it's not just about cole coming. players where off form and it was pretty evident that rafa lost the dressing room. so relax my friend . This signing is good for Liverpool coz it probably means that the top players will stay. we where linked with Paul scharner for f**k sake. I don't think Stevie would have hung around with a player like that coming.

Cole hasnt gone to a big club ..lol i mean all the top 5 clubs ..manu manc arse chels spurs .. had the ability the have him . none of us promised him a start . the fkin england manager didnt even pick him .. liverpool promised something no other club could ... a promise of a central position and a promised start .. LFC used the same thing stoke, bolton, blackpool use to lure half decent players... we promise you will play every week.. when your performing like a mid table club.. and are using contract tekkers of a mid table club .. then you are a mid table club .. spurs are by far now the biggest club out of the two!!. plus you dont have a pot to piss in .. your new stadium is....wait....there is no new stadium for you is there loool!! and your desperate to stop a mass exodus for your club... that isnt the structure of a big club !!

Agree with this article whole-heartedly. He's bypassed the chance to play Champs League football for a side who this year will be behind at least City, United, Spurs, Arsenal, and Chelsea, not to mention Everton who could possibly regain the title as Merseyside's best.

sorry about that mas. I have just composed myself after reading that shit you just wrote . I think your getting ahead of yourself here mate. by the sounds of it you are really upset that cole chose the biggest club in British history over a team that has done fuck all since I've been alive. sort it put mate stop talking rubbish. the only reason you lot finished 4th is coz we had our top striker out for most of the season. calm down lad. you ain't got a chance if ever being a bigger club than us. you boys have strived to be like us for years. ao do yourself a favour and stop embarrassing yourself in front of other spurs fans who actually do have a clue about football.

Jul 20, 2010 at 2:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

also mas my new friend . Arry ain't stopped going on about cole since 2 weeks before the world cup started. so what you on about you didn't want him. your fans where dying to sign cole so you can say " see we just signed a top player" don't deny it mate . you are gutted. hahahahahaha

Jul 20, 2010 at 2:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterAndy

Joe Cole done the right thing for Joe Cole. He will get more minutes at Liverpool than he would for Spurs and he is getting paid more money.

He hasn't gone to Pool, because of History, he's gone because he will be the 4th name on the teamsheet for L'pool every week. The only other team that could guarantee that out of the four mentioned in the article is WetSpam. Now if he went there it was for the money.

I personally think we have dodged a bullet, he's been injury prone and he's best days could be behind him. I hope he regains some form, so he can play well for England. Hopefully he won't turn up when he plays us though.

As for Liverpool being the biggest club in Britain, your not, live with it, it sucks, but it's the Mancs.

We haven't got a past as good as yours but we have the same amount of Premiership league titles as you do!

Also on a smug note, 9Yrs ago I had a bet with a mate for £1000 that Liverpool will not win the title for 10Yrs. I've not been saving for the last 5Yrs, my mate who I have the bet with has! Hope Roy doesn't change your fortunes too much.

Should have put £50 on it with Ladbrookes too.

Jul 20, 2010 at 3:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpursLA

This is bad even for a football fansite. Talk about bitter and clueless, Cole would have been the best player in the Spurs team and to compare Masch, Gerrard, Torres & Cole with second rate amatuers at White Hart Lane is just laughable.

Sadly you won't see what real competition is like - as Spurs won't make it past the qualifiers. And if, by some miracle, they fluke into the group stage -they'll be the whipping boys.

Harry, being the excellent manager that he is, has once again got a bunch of lower league players and rejects punching well above their weight. (see Portsmouth and West Ham). It won't last, and the extra European competition will take it's toll - costing them in the final league placings.

Honestly how the fuck do some of you goon/scouse cretins read the blog post with a straight face? If you happen to browse around some Spurs forums, you'll see plenty of what the blog stats in discussions about Cole. The author is basically mugging off the Spurs fans who went from wanting Cole to then saying they are glad we haven't signed him. Fuck me will crayons do you for next time?

Evening all.

I'm not shocked that the goons wondering in fail to grasp the article, because we all know they are completely without humour and don't quite grasp the concept of self deprecation. But surprised to see the famous Liverpool supporters who seem to prefer to bite rather than just shrug and laugh. I guess the Reds fans who post on-line are not the same who wave their banners in the Kop, all smiles and the like.

Jul 20, 2010 at 7:47 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

FAO Mick Thomas who sent me an email.

It's an expected occupational hazard of writing articles for a particular audience that is then read by others who don't quite get the joke because the joke isn't actually meant for them. But then the by-product is you get all defensive and loopy.

Nobody is disputing Liverpool's history. Calm down calm...etc etc
