Retro

Remember that retroish Spurs shirt that turned up a while back and did the rounds in the blogsphere via this out of focus photograph?

Well, looks like it might be genuine (click on the above image for the evidence).

Look ma! No yellow streaks! Wooooooooooooo!!!

I think this is hideous. I actually like the current kit, yellow and all.

Apr 29, 2010 at 11:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterRosie

It's a decent kit, but methinks it's missing a lovely big 'Holsten' sponsorship. =]

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterWest London Yid

Alcohol sponsorship in Premiership are outlawed from the end of this season. Thats why Carlsberg couldn't renew with Liverpool. So, unfortunately no Holsten

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterMal

Alright at best but better than the one we're wearing now

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterSpurs LA

Be nice to have an Apple in the middle, that'll be class

HATE IT!!!!

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:20 AM | Unregistered CommenterIaG

How did the photograph in the GG thread get leaked? Viral advertising from Spurs?

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterOllie

Spurs LA i was literally just saying to my mate how much i would love to be sponsored by apple :) don't see it happening somehow. I only think the kit can be judged once we have a sponsorship logo to look at. COYS

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:24 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoelyid

Disappointing on the Holsten front.. On a tactical front, surely 'arry could get us a deal with 'The Sun' (Yes another red sponsor) simply so we get some favourable press coverage for once. No more non-sensical "Man U want Tottenham Star in £20m deal" style stories; or is that just a stupid idea?

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterWest London Yid

WLY why stop with just the sun logo i think a pair of knockers embossed onto the shirt would make the tabloid a more attractive sponsorship option

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:33 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoelyid

A pair of knockers? Bit unfair on Jenas and Kaboul there Joel.

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:35 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

I'd rather have them on the shirt than in it :)

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:38 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoelyid

Hahaha, good comeback.

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:41 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Like it, as mentioned though - the sponsor is crucial.

Levy's probably chatting to the Asian or American Market at present so expect "star sports" or "Fox" to appear...

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterYiddogray

Would look even nicer with two of these on the sleeve!

Off topic, but mad props to Fulham for their victory tonight and upcoming appearance in the final. Big shout out to Spurs old boy Simon Davies, who always worked his bollox off for us. Delighted to see him get some glory. And lastly:

"Clint Dempsey, you're the first American to ever appear in a European final. What are you going to do next?"

"I'm going to the World Cup where we are going to get through the group stages by beating England!"

Apr 30, 2010 at 3:29 AM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

The kits have a nice retro look but its a shame the socks are navy. The more white the better. Now for a pink sponsor...

Apr 30, 2010 at 4:00 AM | Unregistered CommenterLilywhite

I'm here to set the record straight: As an employee of Puma's UK division, I can tell you that this is the training kit for 2010-2011 season. Obviously Puma has not yet released the official home, away, and third kits yet, as it is only April., and the players themselves will not know the future kit until mid July, and I until June 17th. As for the sponsor, I have no idea, as I am not affiliated with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, but I am quite sure that the deal with Mansion has ended, and thus a new sponsor will take the place of the aforementioned company, unless of course Mansion extends their deal.?

Apr 30, 2010 at 5:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterElCid

Whew. I can palate it better as just a training kit. As for a sponsor, wouldn't it make sense to wait until end of season to see if Spurs make the CL, so as to presumably attract a bigger sponsor and/or more money?

Apr 30, 2010 at 8:09 AM | Unregistered CommenterRosie

FFS! Does it really matter?

Apr 30, 2010 at 8:19 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

Screw this shirt distraction. Dick Bolton 4 or 5 nil please as I have an ugly bastard of a feeling in my cobblers that goal difference will be someones poisoned lasagna this season.

Apr 30, 2010 at 8:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterDr Oyvind

Training top? Would they really parade it around like that if it was?

Apr 30, 2010 at 9:24 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

looks like a awful lot of trouble for it to be a training top, reckon its the realio dealio.

Apr 30, 2010 at 9:27 AM | Unregistered Commenterfernandez

I thought that this season was the last season in our deal with Puma?

Apr 30, 2010 at 9:45 AM | Unregistered CommenterCatman

Can't see how this is a training kit. Never known a training kit to have a launch in this manner, at least in the manner represented in the linked image. Very retro shirt though, possibly too retro. Let's hope the sponsor is one with a blue logo.

Apr 30, 2010 at 9:50 AM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

I doubt the club would start parading around in the new top without a sponsor on it. Why bother? It's not the finished article, the fans won't be able to buy it like that. This shirt hardly has the class of a mondern day prem shirt. For Puma's new tops, cast your eyes over those being worn at this years Africa's Cup of Nations. None of them look a bit like this and manufacturers tend to bang out a few shirts in the same style fopr several teams.
Speaking of sponsors, I've heard (from a completely unsubstantiated source) that next years sponsor, if we finish fourth, is Virgin Money.

Apr 30, 2010 at 9:54 AM | Unregistered CommenterMatty K

Sure it's for real. You don't get half the first team squad together to promote a training top and can't see us having a training kit in home colours. As for no sponser, that's because we don't have one. Still need to get the marketing wheels in motion though for the teasers etc that they start to send out this time of year.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterNorth17

No sponsor. Spursalona.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterKilljoy

Virgin Money? Great. More red.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:06 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Heard the one about Stevie G and the knocked up 16 year old girl, Featuring the News of the World a high court blockge and a whole lotta misery for the pool.

love it.

Plus I like the Shirt - takes me back to the 80's and robot dancing....

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterSteveo

There is one reason why we don't yet have a sponsor agree.
When Mansion signed their 3 year deal Daniel Levy, master of wringing as much money as possible out of people (including us) managed to get an absolutely ridiculous deal in the region of £10m. He took advantage of the fact that Mansion were desperate to have presence in the Premier League and their proposed deal with United fell through.
This deal is now infamous amongst the gambling and sponsorship industry.

The problem is that no other brand would pay nearly as much to sponsor us. It was a complete one-off/fluke/genius piece of Levy negotiation. The real value of the front of a Spurs shirt is somewhere arounf the 4-6 million pound mark.

UNLESS....

We get into the Champions League, which is what I assume DL is holding out for before he agrees anything with anyone.

I work with a lot of sports or sports-related brands and I've not heard this Zurich rumour before. I heard that B-Win, sponsors of Real and AC are the front runners.

Oh and this is definitely the new shirt kids. It's not difficult to put a sponsor's logo onto a picture in post-production.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:12 AM | Unregistered CommenterFox Mulder

Funny how the thought of the slightest bit of red on our shirt appalls eveyone (rightly so) wheras the scum are quite happy to have a white away shirt. Can you imagine the uproar if a red away shirt was announced!

Their johnny come lately plastic fans just dont get it I guess...

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:13 AM | Unregistered CommenterNorth17

Fox. Bang on the money.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:17 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Indeed. It's like LEvy's own black arts of negotiation have backfired on him.
Oh and the recession etc..

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:40 AM | Unregistered CommenterFox Mulder

ElCid is right. The Mansion deal ends this year. I was at the Tottenham Trust meeting with the THFC Board in March and Daniel Levy said he was talking to companies and expected to be at contract stage in a few months. He added that the market was surprsingly good despite the state of the economy because there are not that many high profile clubs looking for new sponsors at the moment. There is one more year on the Puma deal and they may extend beyond that.

Apr 30, 2010 at 10:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterBOF

Spooky, how much dosh you got in your piggy bank hey?? why not a bit fat DEARMRLEVY.COM plastered across the front...................not sure how open to negotiations Daniel will be though. Good luck.

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterCEJ

I will start negotiations by sending him a headless chicken in a box.

Hoping that's gentle enough for first contact.

Apr 30, 2010 at 12:31 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

send him the piggy bank, tell him its kosher.

We can get DML on that shirt somehow!

Honestly thought PUMA n MANSION both finished @ the same time - Had heard that we were getting ADIDAS back as kit make and VIRGIN MONEY (can already hear RED LOGO n CHAMPIONS LEAGUE VIRGINS) as a sponsor in a 1yr deal

Apr 30, 2010 at 1:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterMe

i would prefer the top 1/3 of the shirt from the collar until just below the armpits including sleeves to be a solid colour(dark).no patches the rest of the shirt white,. and for the tv we need to have a large cockerel in the middle of the shirt..not to big and not to small..coz thats our logo(brand)..the cockerel needs as an image to become synonymous with spurs......image is everything in the media..and spurs need to get our image/logo/brand out to a world wide tv audience....coys

Apr 30, 2010 at 1:36 PM | Unregistered Commentersimon

Every one seemed to hate the yellow strip shirt, but I see alot of people wearing it. This new shirt will sell even more, because it will be seen on TV around the world in the Champions League next season,

COYS have bolton, man citeh and Burntley and have a nice holiday.

LOVE IT! Hoping they'll be on sale when I'm back home in July because they cost a fucking fortune imported over here.

Apr 30, 2010 at 5:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterCanada Yid

I talked to Roger Harrison of Puma this morning, i don't work for the company but Harrison lives a few doors down from me. I inquired about the kit and he didn't give me any details but mentioned that the Puma has been working on new kit designs and that they have not yet been released to the public. He did however state that most 10-11 kits will be announced sometime in July for the general public.
