Bent (finally) to Sunderland

Via Newcastle airport. So say the Sunderland fans in this here message board.

Done and dusted then? I hope he has a permission slip from Daniel. The ticket is apparently off Twitter (those pesky micro-bloggers).

Thanks to Sunderland Spur for the pics. I hope he doesn't mind me sharing them, as I'm sure in the next 30 minutes every blog and site will be displaying the above treats.

There's a third picture of him looking rather happy, clicky here.

Darren Bent tried hard, and deserved more loyalty and trust from the managers. He is a proven EPL striker and will show his worth for Sunderland. I guarantee you will he get more goals than Defoe this season, and will probably be in fron of him in the England pecking order. When he came from Charlton, he was one of the hottest strikers in the Prem, and you dont lose that status. He got injured, then a loss of form and disloyalt and distrust from managers dampened his progress. He is a good striker and will eventually prove his worth at a team where he will be valued.

Let's hope the pics are genuine. Also heard it was Bent's mate who posted the pic of the ticket on Twitter.

Ha-Way Bent welcome to sunderland

Cheers mate. I thought I'd black out the girls eyes as I have no clue whether it's ok to post the pic or not. I'm very thoughtful.

"Did jack shit the whole time he was here"

Wasn't he your leading scorer? Averaging a goal every other game?
No wonder he want's to leave.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

If we would of had Defoe from summer do u think he would be our to scorer.?

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

Yes.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

RikNik66 , if you play to his strengths he will score goals. You need to review his goals and see they were goal hanging finishes mostly. He doesn't create or assist or link up. Its ball over the top or lucky break in the box. Good luck to him anyway.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterShelf Side Warrior

People who obsess over him being our top scorer know nothing about football, merely scoring goals doesn't make you a good player or even a good striker, good players make opportunities for their team mates, defend from the front, have the ability to make something out of nothing and capitalise on the opportunities that come their way. Bent didn't do any of these things, in fact if you observe his goals for Spurs the only time he ever scored is when the opposing side made a mistake, he was pony and to be honest he is about Sunderland's level of player, Good luck to him, he was always diabolical for Spurs and compared with Defoe its like chalk and cheese and having gone to Spurs every week for a decade and watched both players ample times I would argue I am well placed to make that judgement unlike some stupid Sunderland fan bleating on about how he was our top scorer.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterDavid

Also he has possibly the worst touch of any player ever!

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:07 AM | Unregistered CommenterDavid

He is a big strong striker but couldnt do anything to set up a goal for his team-mates.
Thank you Shelf Side Warrior and David

Guys DB always tried hard and on the last day vented the frustration we all felt at this off -on off -on off -on move.
Good luck to him and hope he gets the supporters behind him from the off.
Thanks for you effots benty.

By the way all these comments are comming from a 13 year old kid !

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

12.08 he isnt even strong, he doesnt use any of his attributes apart from his pace, i have said all along that pav should have been played infront of bent with keane (until defoe turned up) just because he has more awareness of his surroundings than bent does! But good luck to him

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:12 AM | Unregistered Commenterdan1yido

Strikers are on the pitch for one thing. Score goals.
I'm amazed how glib Spurs fans can be.
The lad had his confidence trashed by your idiotic manager and still put the ball in the net better than anyone else you have, And your pleased to see him leave!
He'll be a hero on Wearside.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:14 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

Hero my arse !
Who the hell are u gonna play him with !
Him and Jones are to similar so they'll be shit together.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

£15m for our 5th choice striker. That's pretty good business. I hope the mackems enjoy his aerial prowess and magnetic first touch.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:20 AM | Unregistered CommenterNext Season

LOL. your knowledge of Football is like my knowledge of Ballet.
Jones holds the ball up fantastically and brings others into play.
They will work like a dream.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:21 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

Yeah
Well keep on dreaming then mate

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:24 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

No mate it's 15 Million (allegedly) for your top scorer.
Facts are indeed. Facts.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:24 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

In a few words i thought of Bent as a ball spoiler. He never created, made or had any intelligence of football. For a man of his size his altitude was disappointing. Well done! Mr Levy for atleast getting almost all of the money back. But i wish him all the best at Sunderland.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:28 AM | Unregistered CommenterBims Akingbade

Goodbye Darren and good luck.

I bet he scores against us.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:30 AM | Unregistered Commenterfilthy

If Sunderland give him a regular place in the team he could score 20+ a season. He is a natural goal scorer when he is confident and plays week in week out. If they get the most out of him even at 15 mil they are still getting a good price.... good luck and thanks for your contribution...

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:32 AM | Unregistered Commenterharryredapples

After getting pictured with that munter i'm sure he'll be back down South tomorrow!!

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:40 AM | Unregistered CommenterYidoDan

Why Darren Bent was our top scorer last season:
1. Pav was knackered
2. Defoe only joined in January (and was promptly injured)
3. As did Keane
4. Frazier Campbell is shit
5. Sandra Redknapp wasn't eligible to play

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterNext Season

If you'd played Bent from the Summer he'd of had more goals.... he can only score when hes on the pitch not the bentch.... welcome to Sunderland

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterStu

If that's his welcome to Sunderland he is pictured with I feel sorry for the lad!!

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterYidoDan

"After getting pictured with that munter i'm sure he'll be back down South tomorrow!!"

Oh, bravo.
I hope you never breed but if you do I hope they are stunning.
Otherwise you will get anonymous twats on the internet calling then munters.
Are you feeling proud? Probably.

Aug 3, 2009 at 12:53 AM | Unregistered CommenterRikNik66

end of the day 17 goals when ur being called shit and also not starting every game is an amazing record, if a striker scores 17 and doesnt set anyone else up who gives a fuck. any team would kill to have someone who can score that many. u cockneys are off ur tits

Aug 3, 2009 at 1:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterBlackCat

Well, the site's about Bent but it's called Dear Mr Levy. So this is to the lovely Mr Levy. ...

Your club sanctioned the purchase of D. Bent and the price you paid. Since Saggy Face arrived with his market barrow he has being trying to flog him off to anybody who will buy him at the daft price you agreed to. No attempt to actually be a manager and restore to him to his previously demonstrated skill level.

Since Sunderland appeared with their chequebook you have demonstrated with absolute clarity your nauseating approach to financial transactions.

Just go for a fair price. No, really - (however strange it may feel) and let the lad get on with his life.

Your approach to trading in footballers is like a Roman slave market. Money is your only consideration. I have considerable contempt for you because of that.

Aug 3, 2009 at 1:18 AM | Unregistered CommenterJohnain

Still Can't believe that SPurs paid how much ... and will not get any where near 15 mill. All based on appearances etc. TFC need some stability and a lot of Spurs fans do not think this is happening. Mr H R will always do a top job however if they don't finish in the top 6 what will happen next yr ?
SPURS need some stability some trust in the playes as said however will they ever get it ?

Aug 3, 2009 at 1:47 AM | Unregistered CommenterStuC1

Haway Bent lad come to a big club on the rise up the Prem. how many point off spurs last 2 seasons?? eh eh

Aug 3, 2009 at 1:49 AM | Unregistered Commentertittybollocks

most of bent's goals were tap ins that i could have scored...its not like he was slamming in 20 yard shots...don't get me wrong, i think the kid has talent but spurs wasn't the best system for him and we'll be just fine now with the strikers we have....is it just me or did the cats go after crouch before bent too? and don't tell me bent wasn't on sale until we got crouch either...

Aug 3, 2009 at 2:39 AM | Unregistered Commenterus futbol

Bent every time over Crouch me thinks.... lol its clearly a no brainer as to who wins that one if both stay fit. Oh n lets allow Cappello be the judge on this too........watch who goes to South Africa next summer n shines in their England top.......

Aug 3, 2009 at 2:41 AM | Unregistered Commenteranon

Thanks spuds, you've served ya purpose, only money man and we're got loads....... the likes of Crouch is welcome to reside in the shoithole that is London, you can continue to let bagpuss to wheel and deal and try and cobble some cash together, typical fookin barra boy........this time next year it'll either be "2 paaaaund a paaaund or he'll do you a deal on some UPVC double glazing......"

Bent will come back to haunt you and as they say, wop it reet up ya 'rse........nal

Aug 3, 2009 at 5:48 AM | Unregistered CommenterSalty Spuds

All you Sunderland fans
Take it like this
Say if you were too sell Bent after scoring 17 goals last season and in order to buy Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
What would Steve Bruce do ayee

Aug 3, 2009 at 8:12 AM | Unregistered CommenterAnonymous

17 Goals for Spurs last year. Where would they have been without those?? If he gets 17 this year for Sunderland, that will make him our best forward since about 1902!! Welcome to the North East Darren, you are going to love it! ;)

Aug 3, 2009 at 9:15 AM | Unregistered Commentersunderlandphan

Well seems to me that everybody is very happy today (although some people do have a strange and offending way of showing it)

Bent is happy because he can leave the big city for the lovely seaside village of sunderland
We are obviously happy because maybe now we can have a striker that actually knows how to properly apply a "first touch"
The sunderland boys are overjoyed because they now have a very expensive goalgetter

What a glorious monday morning this is turning out to be

And yeah ... he will probably score a wonderful goal at his first visit back at the lane ...

Aug 3, 2009 at 9:38 AM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

Good luck to Darren Bent, he is a good lone striker but doesn't seem to play well in a 2 man attack. He doesn't hold the ball up and bring others into play - nor does he make intellegent runs off the second striker to get in behind defenders.
He's good on the shoulder of the last defender looking for through balls from midfield or the ball over the top. If Sunderland are prepared to change their style to accomodate him then he'll do very well for them.

Aug 3, 2009 at 9:39 AM | Unregistered CommenterParklaner

Where is the love people? We are both doing each other a favour, no?

Anyways, Sunderland faithful, I'm like a distant cousin to you. I did campaign for Newcastle's relegation, no?

Aug 3, 2009 at 10:17 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

£9M and rising apparently. But that's £9M up front which is great business.
