Bent (finally) to Sunderland
Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 11:39PM
Via Newcastle airport. So say the Sunderland fans in this here message board.
Done and dusted then? I hope he has a permission slip from Daniel. The ticket is apparently off Twitter (those pesky micro-bloggers).
Thanks to Sunderland Spur for the pics. I hope he doesn't mind me sharing them, as I'm sure in the next 30 minutes every blog and site will be displaying the above treats.
There's a third picture of him looking rather happy, clicky here.

"restore to him to his previously demonstrated skill level"
Are you having a giraffe? what demonstrated skill level? when he wasn't playing hide-and-seek behind the defence, Barren had the delicate first touch of a hippo before he'd shin it in. You should've gone to specsavers you plum.
bent just don't fit into our system of football. we are a more creative side and bent does not have even one drop of creativeness blood in him. pavy, defoe, keane and even crouch have it. and i'm happy he's gone.
Poor old Barren Dent.
No one liked him much at WHL and no one will like him much in the North East either, once they've actually seen him play. Barn doors are an expensive miss at £15m a piece.
I can understand the Sunderland lot doing their best to celebrate a multi million pound signing, but gloating generally works best if the party you are trying to taunt gives in any discernable way a monkeys ass.
Good luck to you though Barren. Its a shame for all concerned you were unable to reproduce the maruading style of forward play you cultivated at Charlton and ended up relegated to the bench, first behind Keane and Berbatov, then behind Pavluchenko and Defoe, then Behind Jamie O'Hara in the cue for Danielle Lloyds yowie.
No disrespect to any team intended, but if it were simply a matter of 'strikers need only score goals', as some here suggest, then Darren Bent would possibly have had options outside Stoke, Hull and Sunderland. When one of the leading scorers in the divison (young and english, as many league goals as Wayne Rooney) is desperate to join a club that is currently aiming for midtable consolidation, there is clearly something lacking.
Twittering aside, Darren seemed a nice and (up till then) professional lad, but his signature was criminal (a record fee for a player who immeadiately took his place as a 4rth choice forward whose direct style was clearly at odds with that of the team). An expensive testament to the ulterior motives and wastage of the Comolli years.
Goodbye to he who was known as "Darren 'What's that Round Thing?' Bent".
Good riddance. Thank god it is finally done.
Why all the gloating from the sunderland fans? After all even Barren was their second choice, after Crouch that is!
Kin ell you again got rid of your best player!! only the spuds can turn a 20 goal a season player into an average player just like you do with all those great kids you splash zillions of dosh on only to see them flop and sell for much less.i wonder why that is? they all prolly think what the feck am i doing here!?!? shit club, shit fans, shit ground, nowhere near the arsenal.
*****WAITS FOR TYPICAL DUMB SPUDS TO CALL ME BITTER CUZ THEY KNOW IM WEST HAM***** YAWN!!!!!!!
Mackems, please make up your minds: On the one hand you say Bent is a world beater who knock em in for you. On the other hand you say we will never get the 14-15m as it's all based on appearances and performance. Which is it? If Bent's good, we get paid.
Bent is not a bad player, but he only thrives in a hoof and hope kind of attack. If you are playing him up front alone and peg numerous balls at him, Bent will knock one in every other game or so. And he will miss plenty as well. So, enjoy that.
I have yet to read anywhere that Sunderland consider Bent a world beater, in fact at the price quoted most of our fans would have been happy to string Redknapp along and leave him in the lurch at the last minute. The ridiculous over negotiation has resulted, from our point of view, in a sensible compromise. If Bent scores goals we pay more. We can live with that, instead of paying, as you did, some £17 million and then finding he has not scored enough goals, now that would worry us.
With both Bent and Crouch there are those pro and those against each player but Crouch has been tethered to his existing home by his wag nailing his waggler to the plot, so she can still go shopping in London. It broke no hearts in the North East when he did not come. We want a goal scorer and as for tap ins I don't care if Bent uses his arse as long as he gets the ball into the net on a regular basis. I also believe that with his coaching ability Bruce is capable of improving a young players entire approach to football and he has a young player to work with in Bent. Time will tell how the lad will work out but you appear to have a number of childishly dogmatic fans amongst what, in my 58 of years of visiting your club, are generally fair minded knowledgeable fans.
Abusing a happy girl photographed next to a celebrity footballer who is hardly a picture postcard himself is so utterly pathetic one can only wonder on the shallowness of the poster's life. Based on the usual samples of half dressed female pond life peddling their wares in front of footballers, in the hope of snaring a meal ticket and media attention, I know which is more likely to prove the more pleasant and loyal friend. Keep your rose tinted glasses on laddie you are heading for a big disappointment and possibly some expensive relationship with women that is if they would be willing to look at you but then we would have to take your word for it..
athedley, here's the funny bit. We paid nothing like 17m for Bent! Like yourselves, we had an appearance and achievement type of deal to get him. But what is reported? "Spurs pay 16.5m for Bent" much like your team is reported as paying 14-15m today.
Anyway, the money side is boring. If Benty improves under Bruce, dandy. Most reasonable Spurs fans-and there are a few-don't think Bent is Shit, just that he isn't suited to how we play and isn't likely to adapt. Harry''s choice was fit the team around Bent or move him. Time will tell who's right, I guess.
Said it before and I'll say it again.
He was the wrong player for us at the wrong time.
He does not fit into our style of play.
His productivity is next to nothing even if he does nick a goal every 2 games. Yes, I know that's a paradox but you'll see that you have to accommodate him.
If you do, he'll score plenty. Won't prove anything other than he needs to be part of a team that works for him.
Do that, and you are onto a winner.
Good luck to Darren.
how are you getting so much money for a piss poor attempt at a striker?
Sunderland are just idiots
Well, considering what we paid for him, all we can do is try our luck.
Cheers Steve Bruce.
Good luck to Darren Bent........some of the comments about our top scorer last year..... way out of line.......
probably will bag loads of goals for sunderland........why cant we respect players is beyond me......
various reasons regarding performance cant be one player....only .....he did have a great spot of form last season
