Utd 5 Spurs 2 - I hate football

At 2-0 up I muttered the immortal words: "If Spurs don't win from this position, they will never beat United". Oh how the Gods unzipped and showered me with their irony.

It was going so well. Bent getting in amongst them to control and hit for the first, Modric the second from a Lennon cross. In at half-time, two up. And playing well. With confidence. We took our chances with relative ease. Surely we can hold onto it if the same ineffective Utd returned for the second? Sadly that didn't happen. The Utd of a few months back started to turn the screws having decided to turn up for the second 45 mins, but still we sat at 2-0 to the good. All the way up to the 57th minute when the Gods pulled their pants down completely, turned around and unloaded an almighty number two. Penalty to Utd. Did Gomes get the ball? Did he get the player? Was it a penalty? If it was, then why did Howard Webb not dish out a red card too? Having seen it a couple of times on replay, it wasn't clear cut by a long long way. But why should that stop the ref from giving them a route back into the game? The sooner we get refs into our fantasy football sides the better. They would score a bundle of points with their assists. But it was still only 2-1. Let's not collapse Tottenham. Don't collapse. What do we do? We collapse quicker than Stephen Hawking attempting to snowboard down the side of Kilimanjaro.

Still, you can’t deny Utd as an attacking force. And softer pens have been given in the past. But let's not linger too much on that one single incident. Let's move onto the 'laying down for them' bit.

And boy, did we lay down for them.

Confidence gone. Almost akin to something of prior seasons when our backbone turns to jelly just because the opposing team suddenly have belief. Yes, we are 2-0 up against the mighty Man Utd. So what? Push on, attack, force a third. Don't be dumbstruck by the occassion.

Far easier for us to allow that one decision, to knee-jerk us to a spanking.

Where was that little bit of leadership and composure? Not sure at the moment I want to start having a dig at our players (because I really can't be bothered on the back of this result). But at full pelt, Utd are impossible to defend against. More so if that much needed leadership and composure is non-existent.

Rooney, 67, Ronaldo 68, Rooney 71. 3-2.

The Gods had obviously feasted on a curry late yesterday evening.

When Berbatov casually, apologetically, bundled the ball for a 5th I momentarily died a little inside.

I hate football. Hate it.

If Spurs don't win from this position, they will never beat United.

i really believed we could get something there this time am still shocked.
regardless of what you think there is always a turning point in every game and that penalty gave them the believe and sowed the seed of doubt in our players. believe is everything. any element of doubt and its over as demostrated by the result. until howard webb gave them that penalty we had them contained. sorry for going on but am really pissed off. we always get robbed up there its bothering on.............ah forget it am gonna get drunk

Well, if you're gonna get spanked 5-2 then it might as well be by the best. And United were unplayable from the moment Tevez came on. Adding Scholes to the mix was the final piece in their jigsaw: is there a team anywhere that can resist Rooney, Ronaldo, Berbatov, Scholes,Carrick and Tevez when they're on fire? Guess we'll find out when they meet Barcelona.

Really, though, this match finally put Henry Redknapp's acheivements this season into perspective. At 0-2 up, we should have gone on to lock down the game and maybe even sneak a third. However, Old Red Nose juggled his side with Rooney on the left wing, Ronaldo almost alongside Berbatov in the middle, or whenever he fancied it steaming down the right. It confused the Spurs midfield and back line. Jenas and Keane were off the pace and anonymous, though the graft and commitment of Palacios and Modric almost made up for it.

New signings, more work, let's hope things pick up next season. But don't expect better than 5th place at this rate.

Typical spurs, we implode when in control. For me corluka lacks pace and rooney exposed that today. I must say tho the ref was a effing disgrace.

Howard Webb cost us that game, it wasn't just the pen but those niggling fouls by he kept waving play on to, WANKER! The Boys did bend over and take numerous laxatives and let them in with peculiar ease. Another utd game and I now really do understand how much i hate utd, and I know i will never dare to believe as a yid. I hate football.

Spooky you renewing your ticket for next year, I thought it a good time to ask;)

I'm convinced football is corrupt. Ref's in the pay. Santini knew the prem was a cartell and had it right when he brought to our notice how the officials visited the Mancs dressing room at half time. Mendes goal that never was, last season they equalised in the 94th min when there was only 3 mins of injury time... the list goes on. Regardless of that it sickens me when a Spurs team let's their heads drop, happens far too many times over the years, O for another Wilson in midfield.

Bang on, typical spineless Spurs performance, lets get over the penalty and keep playing for a result. But typical Spurs no back up to replace an injured Bent when Zokara (I Know) would have been a better bet than out of puff .Jenas to sure up the midfield.

Typical Spurs luck and I shouldnt go there but Defoe would have been a perfect replacement for Bent with genuine pace and directness to unnerve Uniteds central defence, Ferdinand, so overrated that could have given us a winnerable counter attacking option.

Yes Webb was abysmal especially considering the lack of cautions for Utd players tackles and giving them free pot shots from free kicks 30 yrds out but we still have that soft underbelly when under pressure and a lack of vocal leadership to keep us intact....Kean(nowhere) and played rubbish, Ledley, always quite, Woodgate , Ditto.

The bottom line is that we are all deluded, look at the Arsenal team, theyve not won a trophy in over four years but would never have succumed like us, we're never going to compete for a top four spot with this bunch of lightweights. REALITY CHECK!!!!

Was not great, the collapse. But let's not knee jerk. We always knew there was more work to be done and that adding Wilson to the side is not enough. We let ourselves down, but let's just move on and learn from it. And I mean learn from it. That part is up to Harry.

Webb (the pen and the resistance to yellow card insistent Utd tackling) did not help matters. Doesn't excuse the way Spurs feel apart but the longer the game went on....well, you never know.

The moment the penalty was scored was the moment Spurs lost the game.

Come on, boys, it's just business. How much money do you think Sky TV and the FA would make if it wasn't for the Big Four? Which Asian broadcaster would pay dollops to the screening rights of a Bolton v Spurs game? Or any other also ran? Mr Webb and the tosser commentators know very well who pays their salaries. Therefore, next time you howl about being robbed, just remember who makes it all possible. All you wannabe teams: if you want to a seat at the money trough, then accept the fact that only certain teams have the franchise to bring home the Premiership bacon and move the hell out of the way. What fairness and sportsmanship?! Bloody cheek!

Nice to see the true spurs fans back in force. I knew a couple of wins wouldn't keep the real supporters at bay.

'Typical Spurs' and 'Yet another spineless performance' are the oh so familiar cries, brilliant. Can we go back to sarcastically clapping Gomes? Or even better how about we all start whining that Modric really is too lightweight for the Premiership?

Yes I'm disappointed, and yes I'm bitter. But I'm not going to tell the world and its dog how shit the team I support is and how if only we brought all the best players in the world we'd finally be breaking into the top 4 (because it really is that easy, come on Levy you tight arse, wheres our bids for Kaka and Messi?).

If you want a team that's an unmitigated success story, support the ref buying cock suckers from Manchester. If you want all the needless drama of a Glaswegian junkie hookers adopted ginger love child, support spurs, but please don't constantly whine about it, you're boring the rest of us.

How many of us would have took our current position, 3 months ago?

I also died a little inside when we were Ended by Count Sulkula's fifth.

I doubt I will ever see an OT win for the rest of my natural life.

If anyone thought for a moment yesterday that being 2 goals up on United put us in the safe zone, then you are truly oblivious to what Man Poo is capable of! They are way out of our league and it unfortunately showed last night. A friend and I were watching the game and we didn't even start celebrating until we scored the second goal (wish we didn't celebrate at all)... we kept telling each other that even though we are 2 up, the score right now is a fair 0 - 0.

Man Poo Ratings:
Referee - Bitch! Clearly a Man Poo player; changed our whole game
Ronaldo - Poser! Great footballer but a c*#t of a schoolgirl
Rooney - The only one I felt who stayed quiet and capitalized on our sulking - he annoys me
Berba - Him scoring a goal on us was just the final push of "number 2" from the Gods as Spooky says
Fergie - Luckiest f*#k on the planet!!!!!

Spurs 2nd Half Ratings:
Robbie "Where were you captain" Keane - the name says it all; if we ever needed a captain, it was after the penalty - never heard from him again
Defense - Were they even playing in the 2nd half? I didn't see them
Team - why sulk after the penalty? We could have held it together and kept holding the ball and defending; we didn't even put up a fight which is unacceptable!

All in all, this game will teach us a lot about the quality of our team and what Harry needs to do to bring us up to the standards of the Top 4! Summer will be a key time for our beloved Spurs; a lot of work has to be done as we are currently way off. Next year will be another rebuild year... challenging for the top 4 in 2011 I believe. Still love my Spurs though!!!!!!!!! COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again Harry failed to make any changes when things turned,... His ability to change the game midway thru is terrible...... After the 2nd goal, corluka had to come off... get Hutton on ....no..... Jenas for all his running didnt really achieve anything.. sub him too... and its a shame we didnt have any other strikers cos Bent should have come off ...... I was amazed that it was in the 85min that we made changes when 5-2 down...We should have made ours once the seciond goal went in..
