In support of Frank Lampard
Friday, April 24, 2009 at 7:59PM Can't believe I'd ever say that, but James O'Brien comes across as a bit of a tool in his attempt to justify his comments about the tabloid stories concerning Frank Lampard and his ex Elen Rives and their break-up. You'll note, O'Brien loves the sound of his own voice as much as Lampard loves to score deflected goals.
Lampard called into O'Brien's show to defend himself over the suggestion he's 'weak and scum', implied by O'Brien, although he denies he was talking about Frank - even though in the context of the radio phone-in discussion, he was quite obviously (if indirectly) aiming the comment at the Chelsea player.

Moving on, regardless of whether Lampard had an affair (or not, allegedly) is not our business - it's between him and his ex - and neither is the fact that he is any less of a father because he is going through a break-up. And since when do people take tabloid stories at face value?
Ridiculous 'LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME' attempted hype from O'Brien.

Totally agree, the guys a to$$er, Fair play to Lampard, he comes across as genuine, a good bloke and what has happened to him and his missus is sad. Unfortunately, in this day and age, when you are a famous footballer everybody will try to kick you when you're down because it brings in the bread and butter... the ratings... the listeners. The good thing is he was speaking from the heart about his children and that was enough to smear crap all over the face of O'Brien! I'm not a Lampard fan whatsoever but mad respect on his words!

If you read the papers and listen to what O'Brien said, he censored himself LOL!! To say 'I didn't have the date of your Mother's death on my desktop' was crass and completely insensitive.

As Tottenham fans we snicker when Chelsea get into any sort of trouble, but this kind of treatment is way out of line, especially for somebody like Lampard who is generally a class act and a pretty nice guy. Even if he did screw up, who's bloody business is it to poke into this guys personal life? Like anybody here has walked the straight and narrow without deviation. Not only that, but Lamps came across as a class act in this rant when he could swore like a sailor at this publicity whore O'Brien.
I don't see what the problem is here. Fair play to Lampard for phoning up and putting across his view articulately which he is well within his rights to do but equally, so is the guy who was hosting the radio programme. As the fella says, he is fronting a talk show, people phone up every day with stories that are just as relevant as this one but just because the person in question is a multi-million pound footballer he should feel guilty and ashamed for putting his own opinion across on the subject? There was me thinking we lived in a democracy where the right for free speech is championed... If anything I think the woman interviewing him at Sky is the embarrassment with her blatant bias line of questioning, sensationalism and inability to accept any of his responses.

Moral of the tale? If it matters (like a human being's personal life) or if it really really really matters (like a football match) - Take your time, and GET IT RIGHT.
As for O'Brien's ludicrous comparison with the caller who lost his wife to MRSA, as proof he deals with people more upset than Sir Frank of Lampard, did O'Brien call all people who lost their wives to MRSA "weak & SCUM"?
