Bentley driven to Russia, will probably run out of gas

I was in Tenerife by the pool when we signed David Bentley. Suffice to say I didn't set my foot on fire and jump in when announced he'd be moving to the Lane. Until the month of January he'll be plying his trade out in Russia. What that trade is exactly is one for debate. Where did it all go wrong? When was it ever right? Did all of this really cost us £16M?

His career at Spurs has been chronicled. A fourteen part epic.

Here's yet another example of Villas-Boas being all too eager to dismantle a squad that reached the last eight of The Champions League.

His ego obviously wasn't sated by the senseless flogging off of Rafa & Modric, having failed in his attempts to jettison popular players like Dawson, Thudd and JJ.

So he now decides to get rid of our record signing, David Bentley. Outside of the transfer window too, so we can't even replace him.

Utter lunacy.

Is this post a misguided attempt at sarcasm, or a genuine dig at AVB?
If its the former, please try harder...
If its the latter, then please fuck off and support the scum...

Great to get a move on for players not suitable for our new style of play. slow and immobile players would not get playing time, I think AVB do what has to be done for us to get success. Only sad we payed so much for a mediocre player back in the days

wont be sorry to see Bentley go just cant understand where it all went wrong with him. his quality and work rate at Blackburn were awesome i suppose the interviews on Sly in front of the Pool party should have given it away. as for J**** how long exactly was the last contract he signed< he seems to have been getting paid for fuck all for a very long time

Dismantle a squad? Those who think AVB dismantled the squad by selling VDV and modric, can fuck off to the scums. Modric has wanted to leave for a very long time already, all was left in levy's hands to settle his price. If the deal was settled too late, AVB could not do anything, levy has this uncanny knack to end deals late. As for VDV, he has always wanted to play for his boyhood club before he retired, so if you had any respect for a guy who has given his heart for spurs, you would have let him enjoy his final few years of his career.

Give AVB some time, spurs ended last season terribly, out of confidence and deflated. Thats where they have picked off this season, let AVB groom the team back, instill some swagger and much needed confidence, thats all.

Support the team, dont boo the team, or else just cross the road and suck some dicks for the scums.

so continue the logic of your post mr spooks or whoever. who endorsed and signed the check for mr bentley? who was responsible for that and every other screw-up in this club? clue: it wasn't AVB.

DB was in HR's bad books after he dumped a bucket of water over him at Man. City. HR never gave some players the game time they deserved, notably Bent, Pav and DB. He would prefer to run the squad into the ground. DB was a top class player at Blackburn so I hope the move works out for him.

Top class? Topshelf more like! In Russia, it's law to rub vodka into your gums - in between drinking the shit!
David, you will be deeply missed.

Ed, anybody would think clubs don't ever make any mistakes in the transfer market. Not even the Utd's of this world do that, rigtht? We made a mistake with Bentley, boo fucking hoo. How about you list the mistakes we didn't make then lay the opposite of blame on the very same person.

What I don't understand it is quite clear that players like Bentley and Jenas
are not going to future at all in the 25 man squad so why. It get them out right at the start
of the transfer window. Why have them around stinking out the place

Burnley overlooked Andre Villas-Boas for the manager's job at Turf Moor because of an over-reliance on unfathomable jargon

A Life In Football, ex-Burnley chief executive

"He (VB) sent a very detailed application. Usually all we get is a foe-toe of some bloke holdin't ball! His CV and power-point presentation were amazing. Nowt seen nuffink like it, before or sin. Power-point? By heck, even Even by Martian standards by gum, there were some complicated stuff. Tommy Docherty used ta say he never said anything ta players that his milkman wouldn't understand, and is milkman were a woman! I don't think any woman would fathom tut meaning of a lot of Andre's presentation. Would Burnley players have understood what he wanted if he told them ta stop eating pies durin game? I ask thee

@Wiskey Tom
What do you think about AVB ? And especially being appointed head coach at Spurs?
All the best to you !

Shame it didn't work out for Bentley, but these things happen in football. Every transfer is a gamble of some sort. As for the post about Jenas, he has a contract till 2013 i think. How dare he turn down a contract at another club on less money than he on at Spurs. We would all be straight out the door if that was offered to us wouldn't we?

I would imagine we tried to move Heaven and Hell to move DB before the end of the transfer window here, but obviously there was no team that had actually heard of him, that wanted him. Big up Levy again, for finding a team that didn't know who he was and were prepared to pay his salary for a few months.

Some of the comments above are clearly not spurs fans. Obviously either Arsenal / Chelsea fans or media hacks trying to breed discontent from within spurs own supporters by posting such things on blogs to make it sound like that is how some spurs fans think.

Nice try guys. We're not all that stupid. Let's rise above this boys, we have a class and support most teams can only dream of. Let's show it and show some patience.

Russia being outside the EU, does that mean his driving ban isn't relevant out there, so therefore can drive?

This could be the making of Wondergoal Bentley, a good career move. His Russian teammates wont take too kindly in training with his tight short shorts and the tight pants and white fronts in the locker room. Think of the Rocky training montage. His game plan will have to change.

Sep 7, 2012 at 10:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterMr Valentino

I will always remember DB for that wondergoal against The Arses !
Also think it is a screwed move by Levy to send him to Russia, calculating that if David get his act together, - so perhaps one of the Russian clubs will sign him on a permanent deal in the January transfer window and thereby recover some of the money we paid for him !

Sep 7, 2012 at 10:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterAllan

He can move in with former Spur, Stipe Pletikosa!

Sep 7, 2012 at 10:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterMr Valentino

FC Rostov may regret not loaning a Rolls Royce instead, nonetheless I hope Bentley regains form & can return to put pressure on Lennon, assuming that AVB isn't carrying on with HRs favourite 11 whereby noneother shall get a look in (depth is good for our bench not on loan & unplayable). Pienaar would have got us third last season, but he was loaned to Everton.

sorry to say but is AVB's not so good-looking wife reason for his brains not working properly..

I wish we could make the same mistakes again because in the period he has been at the club, we've done more than ok

Sep 7, 2012 at 8:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterDD

he ownes or owned a bar in the costa del sol. my mum spoke to him there and said he was ok tbh, but he did say his number 1 love was his bar. it showed in his football. when we signed him i cringed, knowing how many much better players there were for that money! then that goal against the scum, i thought... wow, maybe i was wrong!....... the rest is history.....

Bentley was a reasonably decent replacement for Lennon in the stretch azza was injured the year we first qualified for the champions league
