"They're not supporters, they're consumers"

Civil War! - season 2, episode 5 - The Fighting Cock podcast

Spurs in crisis! Meltdown!

We've got all the bloodshed in glorious audio. Norwich autopsy, haters hating, passionate ranting and a call for composure. We look back at the transfer window antics and Moutinho (who?) saga and the media's agenda against Villas-Boas. But it's okay, don't fret, we manage to squeeze in some positivity in amongst the misery. Rickipedia and Windy do their thang and we ask...just what is Daniel Levy like in the bedroom?

By-products of a lifestyle obsession: Flav, Spooky, Ricky, Thelonious, Engineer Al

Love the shirt.

Fighting cock? More like, talking cock!

Fucking hell give it a rest, it's ridiculous to keep going over and over and over and over and over the same laboured point........ Fucking hell, just listen to yourselves - all that was missing form that podcast, was the sound of knitting needles!
To assert that to be a real fan you have to, cheer on your team, no matter what, is utter hypocritical bollocks! So what are you saying ladies!? You've never, in unison, groaned, bemoaned, swore, and sung less than supportive songs to a manager? Who by the way, is part of the team, in fact, he's the hub. Ever thought, (home of away) fcuk this shit I'm off? I have. If your team is being outclassed, by a superior team, you sing, you sing your fcukin heads off. If, however, they're stinking the place out, fucking let um know, the gaffer does. Managers over the years have locked players in changing rooms and gone eperplectic! These guys arent ballerinas, they're footballers...the majority of which are working class! They don't need protection, other than a pair of shin pads.

Turning up in droves is SUPPORTING your team, home or away. Shouting to a keeper who's just dropped a bollock ' for fuck sake Gomes are you fcukin kiddin' is SUPPORTING your team. Singing 'he plays on the left' is also SUPPORTING your team!

Some years ago a player called Hossam Ghaly was booed, we also sang 'your not fit to wear the shirt'. This was because he threw is shirt to the floor. Like the Hells Angels, we supporters regard our colours as sacred, and just like the Hells Angels youve got to fcuking earn the right to wear the shirt. When wearing a HA back-patch you must never embarrass the Club: do so at your peril. Pulling on a Spurs shirt comes with great responsibility, and just like the Angels, you've got to earn the right to wear it!!

TOTTENHAM TILL I DIE.

AVB's blue and white army? When in the fcuk did we ever bestow that honour on a manager after 3 games? You lot are so obsessed with VB you're losing perspective, and in the meantime trying to control minds with relentless flannel. Let VB get some wins under his belt before we start humping his leg.

Sep 8, 2012 at 11:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterWisky Tom

What a depressive fuck you must be to sit next to when there's a game of football on. You how all the above is your opinion? Well, its the same as me having my opinion and spouting it out. So guess what, score draw. You keep on bitching and complaining and kicking us when we're down, we'll stand up and sing all the way through it. Doesn't make me better than you or any more of a fan than you but believe me, take a passer by and ask them to point out which of the two is having more of a good time and they'll point to me.

3 fucking games played. 3 games.

And bringing up Ghaly is ridiculous. How can the current lot regain confidence in themselves to do the shirt proud if dicks like you think booing and getting on the managers back is going to help them along? Don't ignore the fact that quite a few fans are behaving like petulant little school kids, stamping their feet and crying their eyes out over...3 games.

The fact you're even criticising the us for wanting to sign is just fucking dizzy.

Come on Tom, now you're just being an arsehole for the sake of being an arsehole. After four years I know people who didn't even sign Harry Redknapp's name. In fact you could probably count on one hand the amount of times his name was sang out. So what's your point? Is there a complex set of guidelines at play here as to when it's okay to sign and when we should choose our chants more carefully? We're not obsessed with the manager, we're supporters of THFC and the coach is there to do a job so rather than behave in a gutless manner we want to back him. You know, the way supporters can sometimes back a player who's out of form. Oh no, hold up, we don't do that at Spurs, we get on the players back and till said played is fucked off on loan or sold. Sorry, I'll get back into my box. I'll let the ones who know how to handle it handle it.

I cant let this go.

"If your team is being outclassed, by a superior team, you sing, you sing your fcukin heads off. If, however, they're stinking the place out"

You can thank Harry Redknapp for the inherited lack of cohesion.

Oh fuck me. How did I miss this? I see your logic now.

Support the team when they're doing well.
Boo them and get on coaches back when they are not doing well.

Okay, sorted. You want us to be Arsenal fans?

We support the shirt, the badge, the club. Stop finding excuses to dance around that fact.

Harry? There you go again Spook! Leave it mate he's gone, move on! Depressing? No mate, I'm a bundle of laughs.....unlike the knit and natter Neuro Linguistic programming forum.

Oh, and consumers? What a fcuking nerve. What do to think Enic/Levy treat us like, supporters of consumers? If you treat someone like a cunt he'll act like a cunt! Hence my tirade.

Of course we recognise players out of form, we also recognise players that hide, that aren't fit, that arent up for it, that are pissed, that have a bet on the time of the first ball into touch....as we can recognise managers that haven't got a fcuking clue! ' you don't know what you're doing'.

Sorry Tom, my mistake, I was predicting your next post.

We moved on. But seems some of us don't want to move on, don't want to accept change isn't always this beautiful transition and that sometimes it takes a bit of patience and fortitude - from coach, players and the supporters. There seems to be an acceptance that its failing, so let's be damned with it and do our best to voice this opinion in the hope we're right and Levy can admit to the mistake, sack AVB and then we can...er...we can...well, I don't know. Bring in the next man and give him 3 games to get right before we turn on his back.

When exactly is the right time to give it time?

Harry, for all the splintered opinions on him, is actually worth bringing up again. Last season we got dicked on early doors. We didn't have the players in at the time thanks to that really really good working relationship Harry had with Levy. Most fans wanted him out in the summer because of the way we finished the previous season and the loss of form we had. Others thought, believed to allow him to have another chance or better still let him improve the squad and correct the mistakes.

We had supporters frowning at Scott Parker's arrival because we all believed he was over hyped. Maybe I just need to accept people are fickle. Fickle to a harmless point or to ones far more damaging.

Fact is, it seems that its easier to be an anti-supporters claiming to truly love the club by wanting to go through more turmoil to remove a cancer than to get a second opinion that might suggest there is no cancer.

Players have left, players that probably would have left had anyone else been appointed the manager. We've brought in new players. We've had an overhaul of practically everything. We've got a coach that actually coaches. Hey, sure, some of our players don't have the intelligence to fit into VB's system. Ramos tried to be too clever but then Ramos hardly spoke English and our players at the time had achieved next to nothing (discounting pulling birds in Buckhurst Hill on a Saturday night).

We've hit a glitch twice now, two seasons running at the end of the season. Our form has been shit since February. If you honestly believe AVB will fail and don't want to support and would prefer to stand back and wait to scream: I WAS RIGHT, YOU WERE WRONG, I WIN then good luck with that. I'd rather be wrong with a positive voice that right with your attitude.

If this was 10-15 games into the season then we might agree on something. Its the fact we are even discussing this that aggravates me. Have we always been wankers or is it simply magnified when we experience a little 'success' in form and league placement?

Yeah, because I wasn't the one being slated here by a fair amount of Spurs fans for daring to be balanced and daring to back the new man in charge. Boo hoo to the fucking boo boys. You seem to want me to fall into place and agree that acting the cunt in the stands after 10 minutes is the best way to support Spurs. Whatever mate. Yet another 'agree to disagree' moment. I hope you're happy with your lot.

By the way, the podcast is just a bunch of us talking about Spurs. There's plenty of that that goes on all over the place every weekend that doesn't get recorded. I'm fairly sure if you recorded yourself discuss your opinions about this I'd have the same attitude towards you. We don't expect people to agree with us, I don't expect people to agree with me. I'm simply saying that you and people like you are unreasonable. You want it all and you want it now and you have no concept of anything other than believing we are deserving of something. Guess what playa, we lost our grip on that progress we were making. We need fine tuning. Hey, if AVB gets sacked and you get what you want, how about you let me know the people you're going to be lining up to replace him and also as a caveat drop me a line on how long they all have to getting it right. Or will you give them the benefit of the doubt...you know, to clean up the mess AVB has left behind?

Fuck ya later.

Sep 9, 2012 at 12:48 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

To everyone:

This isn't about the booing really, it's the attitude that accompanies the booing.

So if you're booing now, fuck knows what you were like during the 90s and early 00s. Fuck knows what you're going to be like if say Spurs returned to mediocrity.

Sep 9, 2012 at 12:56 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Well said spooky. We don't run the club or own it.. we support the club. If you can't fulfill you're role as a SUPPORTER then best to suck off to another team. Try the Emirates cos that place is full of Arse holes COYS

If you pay good coin to get in and find that your own goalkeeper is the hardest working player on the pitch I think you are entitled to have a moan. If we don't give the team stick they will think we are happy with the performance. At least it will let AVB know that the Honeymoon is already over.

Sep 9, 2012 at 3:25 AM | Unregistered Commenterkingdom of sod

A good start to any season is essential. We have made a bad start by drawing two home, winnable games. Do we wish to replace the Cockerel on the roof of the stands with a Dodo? For the sake of the club we have to let AVB know that we are not impressed.

You're entitled all right.

Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. Rather than boo like a twat, why not sing and support and let the team know they have your support, pins and needles the wrong way doesnt help them.

To Someareteeth:-
Actually I was not there in person, this time, only in spirit. I was watching the game, LIVE, on the box overseas. It was a very poor display. As True White Spur says it lets AVB know we are not impressed. Support the team YES ALWAYS, but how else can you let DL & AVB know that we are poor. If you write to them, send an Email, Fax etc. they will ignore it. What else can be done?

I was fuelled by Rum last night. That's not to say I regret what I posted. Differing opinions to my own are welcomed.

Sep 9, 2012 at 8:26 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Spooky - I beg to differ and feel you have lost some of your balance in the last couple of weeks however keep up on the Rum.
I really didn't like the booing but the self-rightous cock that came in response to it from hyprocytical morons in response to it is just as bad in my opinion.
I hate booing it's crap but don't classify people as Harry Loving, fickle or short-sighted without knowing the facts. You don't have the moral high-ground because you will jumping up and down in front of some youngsters from Catalonia and London.

I didn't boo at either game and the last I spent most of it trying to be positive , question the ref's parentage and work out a way I could stop the guy sat behind me from not jabbing me in the kidneys. I personally think that we are in a shambles but wouldn't boo, however the negativity and infighting between supports I remember from the 90's and man in the rain-coat days were just as bad dragging the club down.

Sep 9, 2012 at 9:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterDD

Booing your own team after 3 games of the new season is pathetic beyond belief. I'm saddened that so many knee-jerk children claim to 'support' the same club. I have no idea what these people expect after an almost complete overhaul at the club.

We are and will continue to be far better under AVB and the squad he is/has assembled. BUT shock horror it may actually take more than a few games for the improvements to take place.

Do these people honestly believe we actually have any reason whatsoever to boo?

Spooky you are completely spot on with this issue.

WHL would be a far better place to be and for our team to perform if these so-called supporters actually did just that.

My extremism last night hails form my 35 year service, of dedication (midweek up north) love (unconditional), bitterness (Arsenal: champions at the lane), and Guinness punch! After all these years I have no regrets, apart from trying to chat up a Anderlecht police dog handler, how was I to know those fcuking things bite? The dog was fcuking nuts too.

I love my club with fire-in-my-belly, and in my book: on-mass jeering, swearing, booing, silence are all one of the same thing, as is doing one early.

Spook, we had a toe2toe, so what happens now? I stop using this blog: ain't gonna happen. I change my account name: don't finks sooooo. You block me: nah.
We wipe our mouths, buy each othe a cyber beer and move on! Don't we? That's because we're not fuckwitted self obsessed wankers! We're Spurs obsessed yids. Players move on too, they don't go running home, to be found by their wives, sat fully clothed under a shower, gibbering.

Oh, and whoever, I can't be bothered to look, told me to go support Arsenal. Wisky says, FOBYAC!

Love ya Spook, even if you do knit! :)

I can’t stand the boo's either. It sits very uneasy with me. It’s not helpful, and its not being supportive. People need to have some patience. 3 games, with new signings, come on people, get a fucking grip. Yes, the last 2 home games were shit, I’ll give you that. But why judge now? AVB can’t be a complete numpty, look at what he achieved at Porto. Lets support him, support our spurs, and give them time please, FFS!

I like you Tom and it's been a pleasure. Like I said, I don't block or ignore or call get abusive if you're not on the same page although I do believe your way isn't my way so it's not the right way. Podcast is dramatic because that's what it is when you're fuelled by passion and booze. More and more Spurs fans are preaching the same words you are and it seems to be a a solution (sack him) to a problem that doesn't quick exist yet. Had we held onto WBA and Norwich I wonder what the mood would be? Cautious yet hopeful?

Onwards in unity is my hope.

LOL! Wisky Tom vs. Spooky duel was more fierce than the NLD. Pity that they've made up like two pretty sorority girls...I was looking forward to more.

I'm with Wisky on this one. The "noise" that the supporters choose to make in support of their team is a function of events on the field. Its almost involuntary. Good performance/move/effort results in cheers. Pathetic performance will bring out the boos. Its the way we communicate. From the Nou Camp, to the Bernebeu, to WHL.

Keep it up DML.

...why Spooky? We are both pro Spurs and pro AVB.

We just happen to have differing opinions on fan behavior in the stadium. I'm for liberty and communication, you're for censorship and pretense.

BTW...whoever said on the fighting cock podcast that they would rather Spurs get relegated (so that they can run onto the pitch and show "support" for the players) than win the CL with the "current" Spurs fans really needs to have his head examined. I mean, really. Apparently that would be his best experience "supporting" Spurs! My goodness!

I was just winding you up :)

Although when I have the time I'll revisit this: I'm for liberty and communication, you're for censorship and pretence.

That would make a truly great article. Thanks.

I think it's obvious people get different things out of football.
