Barca at the Lane

I think it's no surprise that The Fighting Cock finds the booing at the previous two home games embarrassing. But it makes the #1882tfc event at the Barca game all the more important. Modern football is making fans obsessed with success.

We want to remove the idea that supporting your club positively isn't wholly dependant on whether or not we're playing well. We want to sing for the shirt that the players are wearing purely for that reason...that they are wearing it.

If you're against the booing this game is a genuine opportunity to be a different supporter. One that supports because they love THFC. We're going to be there singing our hearts out for that beautiful glorious Lilywhite shirt, because, after all, that's what it's all about.

If you want to join #1882tfc movement everything you need to know is here:

Love the concept and would very much like to attend this game, - however I am living at the other side of this beautiful Globe of ours, - but I will be there in spirit !

First time poster, long time reader, absolutely fed up with the fans reaction the other day. Had an ST at the lane for 20 of my 27 years and one thing we have always had over other fans especially our London rivals is out support! Will be there with bells on!

The same argument could be made for every fan, of every club, everywhere in the World, not just for Spurs. I was in the Park Lane for the Norwich game and I didn't boo (I think booing is counter-productive) BUT I *can* understand why some sections of the fans *might* want to boo. Probably they pay a lot of money for their season tickets and feel every right to be aggrieved when success isn't forthcoming on the pitch, especially when the Chairman has spent so much money on new signings. Why DL left it to the last second to sort out Moutinho's third-party ownership is another discussion for the conspiracy-theorists out there...

Yeah letting people know we are not happy with their performance is for mugs

If you care about someone or something you sometimes have to give them a kick up the backside

@ lets bury our heads in the sand.

I have now made you chairman of Spurs, so what are your next moves in securing a glorious future.
You cite there are problems so please provide what you deem to be a solutions. What would you do if you were in chairman right now? If you don't offer any solutions which you are willing to logically debate than your about as meaningful as anarchy.

I think a change of manager was necessary once Harry's contract run down to 1 year. I would have been tempted to offer him a extra year at the same rate. I was not against appointing AVB although he was not high on my list. I am willing to believe and watch his project unfold.
I don't agree with booing as it makes everyone feel crap when you leave and have that chat as you make your way home. It's a horrible atmosphere for parents and a waste of money on the kids.
If you don't like what your seeing sell your ticket for next week and so on until the results pick up. Watch sky in a pub try and enjoy yourself a bit.

How many clubs had all their deals done before aug31st?
Man City bought how many on the day? What a terrible chairman jeopardising the future of the current champs like that.
Stoke will probs get relegated now after their chairman played around like a kid playing football manager on transfer deadline day.
Liverpool fans must be delighted that their chairman behaved himself...

Bazmundo

You seem a tad unhinged. You also would appear to be in the minority. Why are you talking about other teams and other chairman? Are you trying to deflect? Let’s concentrate on our plight shall we? We seem to have a serious problem, which will evolve, and soon, will be plain to see. Even you and your small following will not be able to escape its glare. All we are doing. (We being the main stakeholders and custodians of THFC) are drawing attention to our inevitable decline. Sadly we will never know whether or not AVB was a great manager. He was not given the provisions he required. Or was he?

I believe that those that bash DL for his transfer dealings really have missed the point.

Look at our squad. Most teams in the PL/world would love to have a squad like ours. While we don't have the stadium/financial muscle to compete against our rivals (City, United, Chelsa, arsenal, Liverpool), yet we do compete against them on the field! Why is that? Is it because we throw away money like madmen, sell cheap, buy expensive, or is it because DL do whatever he can to make the most out of the Clubs money?

Well, you might say, if he'd brought in / gotten rid of players earlier, we might miss out on £5-10m if we'd fixed things earlier, but we would've had 7 points more that would have guaranteed us a Champions League spot and more cash.... That's the kind of thinking that's cost many a team their place in the top, the most obvious being Leeds United going from semifinals in Champions League to bankrupcy and League One in a few years.

I believe, from the bottom of my heart, that Levy is taking Our Club in the right direction. It's not the end of the world if we miss out on Champions League yet another season. And even if you got in the players earlier, would that have guaranteed 7-9 points? You've got to look at the broader picture. Not: where will our team be after the third week, but: where will our team be in 5, 10, 15 years? We're building a new stadium, and we're building a new team. If we keep pushing in the top for the next 5 years, keep using our money wisely, and get the new stadium, THEN can we begin to really splash the cash (not that I want that).

@southspur
I'm just trying to gain insight into what your banging on about.
So just to get this correct... You don't care what manager we have because Levy will not provide the provisions?
What do you think we should be doing differently?
A few more questions as I seek understand what you offer as a solution to our plight... What should our wage bracket be? Are you seeking unlimited funds? Do you think all our new signings are sub standard? Do you understand how booing creates a crap atmosphere for the families trying to convince the kids that it's good being a spurs fan?
It's a long season are you gonna boo in every game? If results turn around are you gonna be happy or annoyed that it offers the evil levy a stay of execution?

Jim,

Are you a relation of "DL" or something? You speak as if ENIC have been in here 5 minutes instead of 11 years. Levy has made mistake after mistake (hence the reason we have had such a turnover in managers during his tenure. We sell our best players (even when they have several years left on their contracts) and then gamble with often inferior replacements. Our managers are rarely backed and are always the fall guys, as if Levy is never to blame (remember when Levy thought it would be a good idea to sell our entire first team strikeforce in 2008?). We are not significantly further forward with the new ground from when ENIC took control, indeed it is debateable whether we even need it (surely success on the pitch first?). We have won only one trophy since they took over and qualified for Champs league only once (admittedly is should have been twice). Hardly success when compared to any other the leading clubs over same time period. Meanwhile we are charged some of the highest prices in England, indeed the world to watch our team which normally increases year on year above inflation. As for ENIC, they make a profit year on year and indeed pay themselves a healthy dividend. And finally let's not forget that Levy tried to move the club form north London in his ill fated, greed inspired attempt to relocate to Stratford and disregard 130 years of history. Thankfully like so many things levy has touched, this failed. Unfortuanately he remains at Spurs and so I expect plenty more failures in the future.

Agree with you Bazmundo..... i have faith in Levy and understand that AVB needs more time to get us playing his way.... and if all the signings are meant to be team starters, that's half the team changed since last season, and very much a whole new spine to the team.... playing the AVB way , with more emphasis on possession and fast retrieval, will take some getting used to, but with the squad we now possess, the future looks bright.

Now having a link-pair like Dembele & Dempsey, with a proven track record at Fulham, makes for exciting times once again...these 2 players alone may well more than make up for the loss of Modric & VDV.

Besides, we all knew for a very long time we needed a top goalkeeper and centre back.. .well we've got them too now... not to mention Sigurdsson who given more time will show his true potential.

Have bought six tickets for the game but did not quote 1882. Tickets Not arrived yet.
Anyone know how the seating works for these games?? Do the tickets have individual seat numbers or it it just blocks?

Can still meet all you 1882'rs in Bricklayers. Just a shame we won't be sitting with everyone in the Lane.
Will hopefully have a good opportunity to video you all.

@Robbie boy
Who exactly are you comparing Spurs to when you speak of other leading clubs?
I take it you mean Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd? Seriously are you expecting Spurs/ENIC to produce the same outlay as City & Chelski? And I thought you were being unreasonable expecting us to have the same financial clout as the most successful team in English history. Listen, to give your levy out campaign some real legs why don't you draw up a list of potential suitors and get the Internet community to bombard them with begging emails... Or is that levy's job also? What if no one buys us in this time of such economic uncertainy? Tell us your plan "B" oh wise one. Also I didn't know Levy was manager in 2008 luckily Harry bought most of those sold strikers back cleverly using that fool Levy's money.

Sep 5, 2012 at 5:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterBazmundo

Hits, tickets are allocated as for normal games. Block, row and seat number, I requested my seat for the 1882 movement, and got block 15 row 2 when at Spurs on Saturday.

Couldn't agree more Bazmundo. Love those who advocate Levy out but offer no comment on who will rush to buy Spurs and pump funds in.I was in international finance for three and a half decades but can't come up with any realistic alternatives- Hicks and Gillette, Lerner, the Venkeys, Sullivan and Gold?. Perhaps those criticising Levy will emerge from the shadows with a list. Probably somebody like Irving Scholar would be an improvement in their eyes.

Don't you hate CAPTCHA

Just wrote a post from the heart and lost it obviously because this wasn't working properly...and I am not wearing my glasses. Can I do it again, well let's see if that heart is true.

Forgetting all the regurgitation of tired old arguments of recent days, this match is a godsend. For someone like me who cannot get to matches because of my work the chance to go and be not just a fan but a real fan is of biblical importance.

I was there the night the Corner Pin got trashed. I turned up to buy a ticket at the turnstile (as usual) but the match was sold out. That was a hard night to be a Spurs fan. I lived in Sutherland Road for years and was there when a flatbed lorry of gooners drove past throwing v signs at us because they had won the double.

I have absolutely no respect for fans who boo the team off the field. You can claim whatever right your narrow vision sees but that just is not done in my book. I cannot stand fans who leave early to miss the traffic or because we are loosing, that is spineless shit in my opinion.

I am coming to the Barca game, I am bringing my son, I am bringing my brother and his daughter and I am bringing my friends. I am coming to sing for my club and show those young lads what it means to love a club and play in front of passionate supporters. I am coming to show those lads that money, fame and fortune are not really what football is about. No matter that we have had to suffer the attempted highjack of our history and our culture by shareholders and oligarchs who use our souls as toys, I am coming to sing and demonstrate that at my club there are fans who walk their talk and have never forgotten why they support their club.
