Harry on SSN (video footage)

Don't think he said triffic once.

Usual soundbites, interspersed with footage of BAE and Rafa van der Vaart talking from their cars. Walker looking likely to stay at the club (no loan deal). That defender we signed from South Africa, you know the bloke, plays in defence...he's possibly off to Rangers along with Livermore. Bale is going nowhere. Looks good in training post-injury.

The stuff on Modric was painful as per usual. Not sure why he just doesn't say 'not for sell, next question please' instead of 'we don't want to sell but...', which isn't as bad as it sounds (got tongue-tied a little) but still feels like he's dragging his heels a little. Just finish off the rumours once and for all. I guess he wants to protect himself if the unimaginable ever happened. Did do well to dismiss the Luka Chelsea bid and not place a 'valuation' on him.

To be honest, he was quite positive about Spurs and challenges going forward. Good PR from Harry on the ambitions and the targets he appears to be setting himself. Although there is a caveat, as ever: down to the chairman to do the business transfer wise.

He wants to win the Championship at Tottenham. We need to get relegated first Harry. But you'll see from the below videos, it's basically the same type of questions being fielded and the same sort of half disassociated answers. We need to sell, we need to buy, we need to buy top top players. Nothing new here. We all know the score.

Did like the bit where he states City had to spend around £140M just to make up the two point difference on us and finish higher. Does put things into perspective. We were not that far off them last season even with the monumental difference in expenditures. But we - no doubt - need to sign a world class forward and perhaps one or two others from the top drawer. Get the feeling we might have to just make do with that all important forward.

Can not fathom a scenario where we don't.

Harry should spend less time prancing on TV and start buying some players. I heard we might be in for Bojan now that would be nice, I said Bojan and leandro and one CB and we should ready for next season...... ! come on you SPURS!!!!!

I may be alone here, though I doubt it, but why doesnt Redknapp just keep away from the press for a while and get on with the job of managing the club. Recent soundbites regarding the lack of money available do a few things - among them convincing Luka et al that they really do need to find a 'big' club to manage their ambitions, and also ensures that other clubs play a waiting game with us knowing we need to sell before we buy. I hope I will be proved wrong and they have some great signings up their sleeve but the last few windows havent been much cop.

Anyone think he was quick to move on from the Rossi chit chatter?

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:26 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Sounds like he really wants Rossi. I got the impression Levy won't pay the 30 million needed. But think that's the one big one Harry want's. I was hoping for Fernando Llorente he also might be a little cheaper.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

I don't know how a 15 min interview on Sky Sports is stopping Harry from working, but I guess he can do no right for some people. I'd much rather be updated on a few things than him to be quiet and just read stupid articles in the newspapers all day.

I liked him from 9:20 on in the 2nd video. We didn't hear him say anything like that towards the end of last season, so it's nice that he's saying that we have to improve. Now go and get those 2 or 3 players to take us to the next level. Rossi, Lorente & Hazard please.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:29 PM | Unregistered Commentertommysvr

You got there before me Spooky.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:29 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

agree withflorida why is he on ssn - just do your job....you dont see mancini/fergie/daglish etc on their getting crappy questions and being goaded into declaring love for possible targets (rossi).....its boring harry...try getting our attention by going ninja undercover and producing a couple of world class players a couple of good kids and a home for the deadwood.....or alternatively at least mention the crumbling emirates XI...now thats entertainment.watching them running for the exit door....clichy...nasri...fibreglass...and to cap it all they still have bentner (makes bentley look like an understated team player)

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:33 PM | Unregistered Commentercolsey

Don't get the comment about city. Just to make up the 2 point difference???

If you look at the table - they finished 9 points ahead of us!

We need to spend just to keep up.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:42 PM | Unregistered Commenterreality_check

Would've been nice nice if the presenter had cut across Harry and said...."and some breaking news just in from.... Hang on.....White hart lane.... Keh????? Harry is there something you need to tell us...... More on it's way.... And it looks like Spurs have just signed Rossi, Lorente and..... Wait this can't be true.... Gerard pique.....!!!!!".

Would've been priceless.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterBaggio

You have to question whether Levy and Harry ever talk about the media interviews. Does Daniel never suggest 'soundbites' to Harry?

Someone on GG just mentioned something obvious. He goes on Sky = dozens of articles on Sky, then dozens of over exaggerated articles with misquotes on other sites.

Look at the Daily Mail and see what they've done with the Rafa quotes as an example.

Jul 4, 2011 at 9:48 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Thanks for putting this up, I haven't had access to SSN since the bastards left freeview!

Harry seemed fairly confident of keeping Bale and I agree he got off the subject of Rossi quickly, probably not wanting to say anything that will annoy Villareal.

Nice to see the youngsters getting a new deal. Im pretty sure that Levy handles the transfers so Im ok with Harry doing the PR prattle.

Would have been good to hear so concrete news on a striker and a centreback though.

He's a complete cretin.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

Getting fed up with all the Harry bashing. He is are manager even if you don't like it, he is. I'm guessing for another year when England come calling. Then there will be someone else you can moan about and argue about every little thing he doe's. Yes he makes mistakes like every manager but get behind him for God sake. Slagging him all the time is pointless.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

Not bashing per say. It's just, what's the point of updating SSN on what's going on when he's obviously not going to say anything of any substance? It adds nothing to the summer. All he's done is made sure he would not be part of a Luka sale if it happened.

But like I said, otherwise, quite positive. And blatantly lusting after Rossi.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:34 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Not having a dig at you Spooky I understand your point and always enjoy reading your articles/posts. But the thing is we all know Harry loves speaking to Sky and the press and we can't change that. Just wish people would get off his back a bit and maybe if we all pull in the right direction we might have a great season ahead.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

Didn't think you were and have no problem if you choose to do so in future :)

Christ, I get it wrong myself. It's emotive this football lark and we're fickle at the best of times.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:46 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Rossi at 30 million will not be a bit of business Levy would want to do... unfortunately, we would have to sell one of our best players or 4 decent players to even consider that purchase.

Having said that, Rossi's current team needs money and they would want to cash in on him at this point... Levy should leverage that. Plus, I can see Rossi being excited about a move to Spurs where he can play with VDV, Bale, Modric, etc.

No?

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:53 PM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi

I think Harry has one of those big spinning wheels in his office with an arrow on it.

"What shall I talk about today? Lets spin the wheel and find out."

I'm not even going to bother to listen to him. As long as we finish top4 that's enough for me Mr Redknapp, you can say whatever you want.

As long as you don't say we've signed Sol on a free..."great guy, triffic............."

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:56 PM | Unregistered CommenterDiaz

One thing I learnt over the years is that the more you say or write the more trouble you get into. I certainly did not work in a soccer environment but the lesson is a general one and Harry would do well to remember it.

Jul 4, 2011 at 10:59 PM | Unregistered Commenterdavid

and please dont sign rossi for 30m. i think he is marginally better than what we have already and for 30m, you would expect something more stellar. failed at utd and for all the media stuff about barca - i cant see him getting a first team run there.

Noticed Harry said "we" and "us" quite a bit. Maybe Levy had a word.

Jul 5, 2011 at 12:09 AM | Unregistered Commenterseattlespursguy

Saying Rossi is marginally better than what we have based on his time at Utd as a youngster is ridiculous. Even then you could see he had a touch of class. Piqué didn't pull up trees and look at him now. Rossi has improved every season and smashed them in last year in a top league if not the top quality wise, and for a team like villareal, not a barca or real with a wealth of ammo laid on for you. What's annoying is that harries saying we coulda got him. Why the he'll didnt we when we knew a striker was top
Priority. Rossi plus llorente would be a perfect combination to sign. Put in a player or two as a make weight if needed. Palacios, Gio(as much as I'd like him to stay) krancjar(ditto) bassong...

Jul 5, 2011 at 12:23 AM | Unregistered CommenterSpurfect

I have to say, Harry on TV giving his all puts the fear of God into me. He is cannon fodder to these sky interviewers. I cannot understand why DL is allowing a blabbermouth like Redknapp on television for 16 minutes. It's lethal. Where was Mancini, Fergie, Wenger, etc today. I give up. What was VDV mouthing off about Modric and Bale wanting to win things as being their reason for looking for a move. FFS this is out of control.

Jul 5, 2011 at 12:35 AM | Unregistered Commentercookiebun

Harry bashing is definitely on the up, flavour of the month I suppose. But he does like to speak to the press, it's what he does, we all know that. But as a fan, it's equally fair that if he say's something then we can question it, it's what we do, it's our passion. I don't rate him but when he gets it right, he gets it spot on. I cannot think of another man who is better or has done a better job in recent years, and cannot think of one who could replace him either. But this season is definitely a watershed for the club , it's future and Harry of course. COYS

Not a HR fan but I think this was one of his better interviews
Plus I didn't hear triffic not once !!!!

Jul 5, 2011 at 1:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterWandering Yid

The 'we' and 'us' thing was very much a positive difference the norm.

Jul 5, 2011 at 8:46 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Haven't yet seen the interview, but notice from the comments he has used 'we' and 'us' a lot and spoken of the club/fans in a more positive manner.
If you recall, this 'attitude' of Arry's (some of his comments last season for example....ironically blamed on SKY by the club IIRC) were brought up at the meeting with the Supporters Trust so I can imagine this could be the source of his change of heart/mouth?

Jul 5, 2011 at 9:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

Why don't the Harry bashers just do one. What do you lot want from him? He's a media friendly manager and that's exactly what we need.

Looking forward to new season, a couple of key signings and we'll be closing that gap on the top four. City minus Tevez and Arse minus Fabregas and Nasri will make next season very interesting...

Jul 5, 2011 at 9:37 AM | Unregistered CommenterGiz

He created an atmosphere of either you're with me or you're against me ... The fact that he starts with we and us is a good sign.

Btw it is not because you do not always agree with the manager that you are a hater , that you are part of 'that lot'. Black and white thinking is what we have 2 much of in this world ...

Did any one guess "top top top player" in the Harry bingo? Someone did correctly predict the over use of "fantastic".

Not a bad interview, was expecting worse.

Not sure how true this is but just heard Daniel is meeting Luka today to have a chat.......................ominous...

Jul 5, 2011 at 11:44 AM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

OK the problem that is media friendly Harry.

How positive was it for Luka Modric to hear his own manager saying 5th place is as good as it gets?
What message does that give to other clubs, his agent? Every other shark out there looking to make money.

Why not now mouth off about Arsenal losing players and say we can catch them if they lose 3 first teamers? And 3 key players -their captain, playmaker and longest serving squad member.

Also he said we can't compete with Man City but Blackpool can compete with us. How does that work out???

I have no problem with Harry and what he has done for our club, just wish he would keep his mouth shut. Or if he wants to open it be more positive about our club rather than every other, club, player or manager. To say I hate him is not right, as BelgianSpur put above, I just don't always agree with him.

Jul 5, 2011 at 12:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterDiaz

Luka/Levy chat now being reported as bollocks on other sites.
No wonder so much bullshit flies about, they all feed off and counter eachother...' Ere, You write some bullshit and we'll say the bullshit you wrote was bullshit and we can all still get paid'...

Talking of getting paid, when do I get my royalties for 'Hutton dressed as Lahm' on the banner. ?

Jul 5, 2011 at 1:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

Decent interview by Harry. Now let that be the only one for the summer.

Sky are a disgrace though.

Jul 5, 2011 at 1:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterTomtraubert

Sky are pukeballs because they put words in players / managers mouths and then report, 'Oh VDV said Modric will leave'. or 'Harry rubbished the Chelsea bid as derisory', as though he was saying 'up your offer. I wish Levy would take them to Court and have another 'Judicial Review'.

Jul 5, 2011 at 1:46 PM | Unregistered Commentercookiebun

once again, a nice bit of editing and 'content & context' of the interview are ever s slightly twisted to make it all sound as ben elton woud say 'a l;ittle bit contreversila'.

Did I expect anything less, no. Sky (and news international / evil murdoch empire) are scumbags, always were always will be.

aving said that I still can't seee straight. Too many 'fantastics' and 'tops', still pissed and didn't neeed the absynthe.

Might have to revise drinking rulse, put a five minute cap on unedited interviews.

The Levy/Luka summit is to agree a salary raise for the alice-banded artist in order to enhance his strong natural feelings for the club and strengthen his resolve to propel us into the top three when Fergie trumps the Chelski bid by circa 8 mill.

Jul 5, 2011 at 10:42 PM | Unregistered Commenterwakeywakey

Initially I loved the Levy stance on Modric that he is not for sale at any price. I still like the idea, and it's brilliant for us fans to see (hope?) our Chairman has the coconuts to finally start resisting those clubs above us. But then I wonder what that sort of PR does within football circles...

Player Agents: earn a cut of wages, but make biggest wedge when their clients transfer. For more the better. So agents would surely advise against their bright young prospects joining a club that won't allow their players to transfer. Especially a club they can relatively easily construct a plausible reason for not joing. In our case: no CL / distant title challengers.

So this stance is great for us the fans, but will it make it all the harder to convince the likes of those we're being linked too to actually join us?

I'm hopeful that we keep the core of the squad together, trim the edges and bolster with a few new signings just like everyone else. I just think our PR policy is too loose with the freedom of interviews the players and Harry seem to have (with little consistency in message) and the mid/long term dangers of a beligerent attitude to players going.

We've bought in the majority of our current first team squad, so we have to accept that some will be bought out. Until our performances match our ambitions we are always going to have this tension.

My guess is we'll hold it together this summer, but if we fail to qualify fior the CL next year it won't be just Modric who will leave...

Jul 6, 2011 at 4:26 AM | Unregistered CommenterDr Oyvind

It gets better...one story says the meeting is taking place today at Spurs, another says that Dr Evil Abramovich's yacht is now moored up in Croatia to have a litte chat...money for old rope that bullshit lark...

Jul 6, 2011 at 9:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

FYI........................................................

The Mayor of London has given his support and backing to the Club's bid for funds from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF), in respect of the Northumberland Development Project, the Clubs's new stadium and associated development scheme.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, lending his support to the bid said: "The Northumberland Development Project has the potential to inject considerable investment in stadium led regeneration in the heart of the local community. This level of investment will safeguard existing jobs, create considerably more local employment opportunities as well as enhance the public realm and vibrancy of the whole of Tottenham."

RGF monies would be used to deliver a package of major infrastructure improvements which are vital if the project is to act as a platform for wider regeneration and crucial if the whole project is to be made viable. These would include station upgrades, public community space, employment and training facilities, restored listed properties, Combined Cooling Heating Plant, site enabling and public realm works.

The Club's bid is for funding for public works, not for the stadium or any of the associated development, and, as such, this funding would facilitate the significant public sector improvements which would need to be delivered in the surrounding area and which would contribute to the general uplift of the borough.

Your in the clear Winter it has been announced on the THFC Official site lol So it is some good news at last this summer. It is only his backing doesnt mean we have been approved yet but is a big step in the right direction to getting our long yearned for brand spanking new SirBillNic Stadium and at WHL to boot - awesome. Fingers still crossed as always until the final seat is firmly bolted in place and Levy has cut the ribbon with a 6foot pair of scissors with hopefully Modric, Bale and Falcao flanking him holding the EPL trophy ready to install in the new trophy room next to the Champions League trophy hey its what dreams are made of and I have been dreaming these scenarios and similar for the last 40 years :)

Great news about the Boris backing , am really hoping this is another step towards what you were describing , a top club with top players and a trophy cabinet filled with euh well trophies

and people will call that gloryhunting but winning the EPL would seems so unlikely and yet i believe we are capable of doing just that.

Just that? I thought we were capable of much more Belgian ;o) I want it all..I want the fairytale (the one that DOESN'T involve Dr Evil buying our club first of course)
