Spurs Wars

A M*dric free blog zone.

Pre-season has kicked started. It has, right? Have to say, after the summer that was followed by '2 points 8 games' (remember what we did to the Italians at the Lane?) I've completely detached myself from our friendly fixtures other than hoping we get through it without losing players to injury and that there's a spark or two of positivity no matter the results. In 2010 when we finished fourth our pre-season was hardly one of encouragement.

Sure, okay, so we lost 1-0 over the weekend after a 90th minute goal from the Chiefs and from what I've been told it was a fairly non-eventful match. Hardly worthy of commentary. Although good to see Bale back in action. And damn you West Ham for getting yourselves relegated. We are left scratching our heads wondering if someone will take the plunge and sign some of the 'deadwood' we are so desperate to shift on. It really is shaping up to be a window which will only truly open a week before it shuts.

As for the players we're meant to be signing, it's only Monday. Got to leave something aside to complain about for midweek.

So, in the meantime, enjoy the first part of the Spurs Wars series from @whitehartXchang. A little something to get the heart pumping as we continue to work our way through the summer searching for hope like an explorer searching for treasure but fast sinking in quick sand.

Big screen version of vid here.

I started to watch the game online on Saturday, but after half-time completely forgot we were even playing. After closing a load of other programmes down an hour or so later I discovered Sopcast was still open.

I'm not reading anything into our results.

However, I do plan on taking my 5 year old to watch our "XI" take on MK Dons next week. The full squad will be back from South Africa by then, so I'm hoping a few big names play for us.

Maybe I am paranoid but when I look at my round up of blogs today there are hardly any stories on the Modric saga. Just like the onundrum of our 3 misfiring strikers i ask myself why? Couldn it be that given the sudden real scrutiny of the media and how ir has been used by influential people, are Chesea and their fans running to hide in the trees?

What was the point of the Friendly game? It just showed us what we have all known for over a year now, our strikers are pants!

Jul 18, 2011 at 1:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterJ

The point of the friendly match was to help the squad towards their target of achieving full match fitness by the first Premier League match of the season.

Jul 18, 2011 at 1:32 PM | Unregistered CommenterJohn White

Fitness, togetherness, tactics etc etc.

Not a lot to be learnt by playing a mish-mash side other than kick starting the series of games we have leading into the new season.

Jul 18, 2011 at 1:43 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Fitness, lack of togetherness, lack of clear tactics, ineffectiveness of the strikers, too many no-brainers and too few winners in the squad.
Exactly at the same point where we were at the end of last season.

Up the Spurs!

i think the main reason for these pre-season friendlies is to provide a shop window for the dead wood in our squad, judging by their performance against a pop band i'm not sure any of them want to be sold!

Jul 18, 2011 at 2:03 PM | Unregistered Commentertms spurs

Dissapointed ahrry Kane was not given a chance. & of our starting line up were in the shop window: Bassong, Hutton, Bentley, Kranjcar (please keep him) JJ, (top of the list) Defoe, Keane. Not bothered by the result or performance. Look how good we did in the pre season under ramos? I am not convinced Modders has handed in a transfer request adn I think the saga is over. Howeever, we will not see any marquee signings or top quality strikers brought in and we all know why. I have to emphasise I much I really do not wnat to see JJ in a Spurs shirt ever againg. I get fed up of aseeing him bobmb up the pitch only to make a total mess of thimgs becasue he aint got a clue. I have had lovers like that, full of energy and eager to get up there but as I soon as it opens up in front of them they loose it, usually down my thighs. HHXX

Spot on IoanX!

I have downgraded my expectations to the level of the average Fulham supporter, or at least what I think the average Fulham supporter expects.

I'm just reconciling myself to becoming a supporter of a lost cause that over time may become loved by other supporters around the country for the way we entertain while letting their team beat us and provide hours of entertainment on blogs by our supporters suggesting that we are a big, well run club and should be winning the league soon.

I can see football fans all over the world sitting in bars and, with a smile on their faces and maybe a small tear in their eye saying stuff like "Ah, those Spurs...what entertainers...better than Corrie eh?" If only Ena Sharples was alive to put young Danny Levy straight.

Come to think of it, "Ah, those Spurs" would make a better epitaph on my rapidly approaching tombstone than the one I had planned that Spike Milligan stole which was "I told you I was ill".

OK, so I admit I have become bored by the soap opera that is ENIC,Levy and Spurs but will forever support them when they play, I just won't expect anything.

Very good Spook! Very good... What media do you use to make those videos mate?

Horny Helen, i'm your man.

Only you'll have to come to Oz for it.

This is the best dating site around.

The only excitement to be gained from pre-season is to get a glimpse of the new signing (singular), not watch the crap we're trying to sell. Made the mistake of buying ESPN, but the silver lining was watching the Argies vs. Uruguay - Gago and Higuain please, get VdV to have a word.
And I like the look of Vucinic - he's got the touch of the son of a rapist.

Not my work - but Windows Movie Maker is something that's pretty straightforward (you obviously need the content though so tv card etc)

Watched that over the weekend with the little one. Trying to explain I was there when Clive Allen scored in front of the North Bank and Gazza scored with one shoe.

All he cared about was why no stormtroopers........ and what is an Arse menace? Classic.

This is probably something you could do Spooky, or more up your street than mine anyway - links to the Guardian.

With all my appreciation Spooky, I am wondering how Spurs can go up without improving their shortcomings.
And in order to correct their shortcomings they have to identify them first.
So I think we serve our team better if we try to help identify its shortcomings and propose well documented solutions than by chants and slogans.

I've been advocating for a while, that we seriously need to look at the coaching set-up at the Lane. I cannot believe that all of our strikers have turned sour, look incoherent and run up and down blind allies on a regular basis? Teaching an experienced England international to stay onside, appears to be a hopeless task it seems and the inability to 'mix it up' and at least appearing to have a plan B when plan A doesn't work is a pretty basic requirement, I'd reckon! Perhaps also employing coaches that are good at their job, instead of those having lasting friendships, may be in part the reason for our lack of goals..p.s goalkeeping isn't too good either, in case you didn't notice Harry?

Looks like we've signed another kid who will never get a look-in. Souleymane Coulibaly, meant to be handy, but aren't they all...

Whoah! A lot of depression here eh? Think yourself lucky! That vid provides my 2 true loves in life and I can't watch it at work!
It was only a pre-season friendly, a few double chins on show (I'm looking at you Niko: I generally do...) Good to get a glimpse of Khumalo and of course a fit(ish)Bale when faced with 2 defs, just banging it past, leaving 'em for dead and crossing it in.....plenty of time to find that NEWSTRIKER to get on the end of it. (Preferably one who HAS finished puberty.....welcome anyway Soule...Sou....Steve'll do)
Please though, let's re-assess the taking of every freekick by VDV....I think even I could get it 'just over' every fookin single time....

Chin up lads & lassies (well chins Niko) Plenty of time yet.......

essexian76 Im with you, ive been stating this for years! They need shipping out, defence, midfield and attack coaching staff as well as the back room medical team.

But how can we, they are all Arry's mates!

This, his big mouth and self preservation will be his downfall!

On another note, Sky issued a public apology to Chelsea regarding John Terry's comments! How about they apologise to us for all the sensationalist recycled nonsense they spout about us on a daily basis?
