Exclusive footage of Daniel Levy and Luka Modric in 'angry' meeting

Another day, more love lost with regards to that once innocent fairy-like dinking Barca-like conductor of our midfield, Luka Modric. How quickly ones perception of someone can change. Very little can be lost in translation this time round.

I'm referring to his interview with the Croatian press (translated by ESPN and others) which makes it sound like he's already going to bed wearing a Chelsea shirt. Suddenly, Harry Redknapp's 'confused' comments from the other day appear to be quite relevant. Seems the gaffer doesn't hold too much faith in the player remaining with us post-season kick-off. Hence his continued disassociation with Levy's fair more sterner stance on the matter.

Seems to all hinge on this 'agreement' chairman and player made when the contract was signed. Player seems to think we should be negotiating no matter the derisory valuation on offer. My money is still on the chairman to be victorious. Although victorious might actually translate into a couple of things.

For now, this saga is not going to stop running any time soon.

I can't believe the fuss about Modric. Most of the fans seem to love him, but I would suggest that they re-watch some replays of many of last years games. Yes, he works really hard (except at the end of the season when he seemed to want to blame anyone else but himself for some of our average results), but his goal output is really quite poor for an attacking midfielder. Also he wastes the ball morr that any other player on the field (except when Robbie Keane is playing) - he has at least 10 mis-placed passes in every game. Personally I would screw £40m from Chelsea, and keep Nico Krancjar - he could play that same position every bit as well, and wouldn't keep drifting out to the wing like Luca does - but of course when he plays left wing he keeps drifting inside?????

Interesting that now BBC and Sky are reporting there was no "gentlemens agreement" in place? Maybe Luka got the wrong end of the stick due to his terrible English or maybe "Spurs officials" (Sky Sports News Sources anyone ;) are just lying.

I'm not really sure this has changed anything for Levy yet, he already told the world he wanted to move. The key will be how he, and his team mates, react in training over the next week

Now rent-a-c*nt has shown his true colours after being blatantly tapped up, We need to make the most of the situation. Chelscum should be reported to the FA straight away, but they will probably weasel their way out of it by greasing a few more palms. It would be nice if they actually got the suspended 3 points from their last illicit transfers, but not likely one would assume.

Cheers Luka for destroying the faith we showed towards you, when you first came to spurs and every newspaper said you were too small and lightweight for the EPL. We took you to our hearts and put you on a pedestal because we believed you were a different breed. Oh well, just another greedy footballer seduced by a big shiny fucking boat and load of cash. Forget the legend stuff, who needs that shit, history..... That's overhyped BS too, decency and respect for a contract you were happy so sign, come again? I'm over it already.

Now Mr Levy, thats got to be 2 weeks wages fine X2, as the first interview looks like it was from the horses mouth. give him a price tag, 80 mil please and if no one pays up, stick to your guns and let him rot. We have Sandro, Hudd, and VDV to fill the gap. I would call City and I'm sure they would cough up, just to piss off Fergie and Ambramovic and show their financial clout. Then call Judas back for a one off gig, getting to the bottom of this raunchy talk. Rant over

Here's proof that Filthy Luka has been tapped up/head turned etc. - Compare what he is saying now to what he said last summer -
" Tottenham Hotspur game me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs but i have no interest in going anywhere. Last seasons top four finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want at Spurs"

Ugly knobhead, who does he think he is, cant bloody shoot and doesnt even assist yet he is suppose to be a playmaker, let him go Chelsea and have Sandro break his legs.

40 million get in Marko Marin, who is better in my opinion and Llorente and then we will win the league, VDVaart could play the Modric role and the lad actually has end product to his game, dont get me wrong Modric is a neat player but the nerve of the guy.

Basically he is saying he is being bullied yet he has stated he wants to leave and wants to stay in London so has stopped a bidding war between, Barca, Madrid, Inter, ManU and Man C because he has selected the location for himself aswell, what a knobhead wanting to leave to go to a rival club aswell, I would sell him to Man City and reject all Chelsea approaches he will then get swallowed alive at that club because they will demand more than 2 fricken goals with that fickle fan base

Funny how the fans adoration of a player can so quickly swing to the complete opposite in a moment. Definetely time for Modders to go and for him it's the right decision. There is no future for him at Spurs and there never was. Spurs are a feeder club at best and Modders could see that by the chairman's lack of ambition in the transfer market both last season and now in the off season with his over pricing of the players that need to be sold. Move on Modders to greener pastures and come back next season to haunt Levy and this bunch of ingrate fans.

Jul 10, 2011 at 10:10 PM | Unregistered Commenterdean

Hey Chapter 5, last season was the great success and Modric knows it's not getting any better than that. Plain and simple!

Jul 10, 2011 at 10:14 PM | Unregistered Commenterdean

step 1: ignore him until the last fortnight before the transfer window closes.
Step 2: sign the players we need
Step 3: auction him like a house, inviting all and only non English clubs. Make luka parade about like a prize twat. Netcast it so we can all watch and laugh.

If the reserve isn't met, luka can meet the reserves until the January window when we repeat the auction circus. Repeat for the next 12 transfer windows in his contract if necessary.

Whatever we do, we can't sell him to an English club.

i am behind daniel levy 100% if he buys 2 or 3 top quality players, then he looks like the good party. if we dont add any class players then modic is the good party as he wants to go to a more ambitious club. either way he will be worth the same in january as he is now!

To Dean the Chelski fan, stay on your own shitte site.Personally if you guys want Modric, then okay, cough up,with 40mil; plus and you can have the ungeateful little shit. Then we can buy a better player for less with the proceeds. No player is bigger than the club,no matter what team it is.While we have to appreciate that a football players career is relatively a short one.And money is important. But the greed of some of them ,is simply immoraL.Unfortunely in todays world, the realatity is that with rich sugar daddys financing the likes of clubs like Chelski/ManShitty it is only going to get worse, and Tottenham will not be the only club,to suffer from such pratices((Just look at our neighbours down the road)But with the FA being such an imcompetent organisation. It is not going to improve. If Modric really does wish to move on(It may well be.Press and Chelski initives to provoke things). Then so be it.As long as we get a decent amount of money for him. Then we as a club can move on,and basically just forget the little shit.

Oh dear where do you start? My favourite Spurs player of recent seasons. Doh! Harry has a lot to answer for with his pro-chelsea shite and his general stupidity. And Levy has made errors of judgement over the years. Many people say sell Modshite now and take the money but I think we are at a turning point in football, rather like we are with the notw/police/ govt corruption. There comes a time when we have to take a stand. Modnotasrichashewantstobe should certainly be made to sit it out in the "reserves that we don't have", at least for a while. Redknapp won't comprehend it because he is only interested in money and, bizarrely, player power, but enough is enough. We might not win the battle, but football will certainly be the long term loser if we don't make a stand. The writing is on the wall chaps.

I wouldn't play him in the reserves ( if we had any! ). I'd play him each and every week. If he is being paid 50,000-60,000 pounds a week, which in any ones language is obscene, he needs to be given the chance to play according to his worth. If he is not performing accordingly and wants to sulk, fine him match payments. Whose in charge? WE ARE!!

Making a Stand , yeah seems like a good idea, Ronman ...

I recently cancelled my Sky Sports subscription by phone and when asked by the Sky employee my reasons, I told them that I'm a Spurs supporter and I'm disgusted how your channel's reporting is biased towards the Chelsea, Man Utd , Man City teams , i.e. the clubs with the most money...

Your Hacking Murdoch owner's contribution in creating a top tier in the english game where we have seen just three teams ( Blackburn, apart & Walkers millions) win the premeirship in the 20 years, has killed my interest in the whole thing ....

I was paying £44 per month and they offered me a new rate of £33 per month on a one year contract ...I told them, I'm not interested and informed them that they have to change their bias policy and only then come back to me ...

The following day they rang me and offered me a £22 per month package...

I told the jokers again ..Change your bias reporting policy , then get back to me ....

They're in disbelief ...I urge all Spurs supporters to do the same and cancel their Sky subscriptions ...

Life long Spurs fan here and I have read all the previous comments on this thread and all make valid points. For what it's worth, we CANNOT under any circumstances sell to another Premier league outfit, especially Chelscum. Levy, at long last, has finally realised that selling Berba, Carrick, was a massive mistake and sends out the message we are a selling club, so if he goes back on his word now he ends up with a massive amount of egg on his face and loses every ounce of trust us Spurs fans have in him. We either play him and let him face the music (Spurs fans will let him know their feelings on the first game against Everton), or we sell for much more than 22mil to a foreign club. We certainly do not allow the little maggot to pick his own price and destination regardless of any fabricated Gentlemans agreement he may have in his tiny brain. LEVY DO NOT LET US DOWN. COME ON YOUR SUPER LILLYWHITES!

Modric, you are a great player but please take your subpar '3 goal/season' record and leave our team. What we need is Captain Hudd to be fit all season and we will have a real chance of getting back into the top four.
Remember, Berbatov was a great player for us also, but we only made it into the Champions League AFTER he left!
We achieve even more without Modric - VDV is a real attacking midfielder, one that scores goals!

Chelsea are a sneaky bunch.

BUT on this occasion I don't they have tapped up Luka Modric, They have tapped up his new wife instead. Not sure there are any rules against that. They phoned her up, a couple weeks before her wedding, and said that if Luka joined Chelsea then his wages would be more than doubled, just imagine all the shopping that can be done with an extra £75k a week.

She probably spent the whole honey moon nagging him about moving to Chelsea. He looks like the sort of guy who is under the thumb of his missus.....lets be honest, he's pretty ugly and like most ugly blokes who have a good looking bird, they will do anything to hang on to them.

This whole "The chairman broke a promise and was nasty to me" line has the manipulative touch of a female!

Why on earth would someone sign a 6 year contract extension if they harbour ambitions 'to play for a bigger club', essentially tying him to Spurs until his 30's? As many have stated, surely his agent/advisor should have insisted on a written clause/minimum transfer fee if his desire was so strong?

In respect of Daniel Levy; whilst I initially applauded his stance and felt it imperative we maintained his services, it now appears fruitless in keeping him and would be happier to offload him as soon as possible - to the highest bidder, prefferably abroad. Having him sat on the bench/in the reserves does not benefit the club, only causes disharmony and keeps him on our wage bill. Even if he stays and plays regularly, I doubt he'll ever be the same. Whilst some would concede this as player power, having him around our club is not healthy, and at the end of the day the club must look after it's own interests.

Horrible rat faced dwarf. I never liked him anyway. Sob.

My first thought was : he should go but now i am not so sure anymore because if he is allowed to leave , then from now on every one that is a target of the 4-5 c*nts leading the dance in the EPL will do as Luka did , act like a lady garden en go all cry baby on us ... The chairman looked at me in a way i dont appreciate - i want to leave etc

But what this story has done for me personally is destroy the last bit of nostalgia and belief i still had about this beloved game , already said it before - i been playing and watching it my whole life but i am tired of it now. Its all about money on a pro level and on my semi pro level also , bitching and whining about the few extra pounds/dollars/euros and not caring about the beauty of winning , of competing and enjoying your football.

They are employees and i would also be distracted by a giant payrise and more glamour but i still feel betrayed if players act like this.

You guys probably dont know this but the only one who has ever surprised me in this area was MIDO , he signed a contract at my hometown club at 16 even if he could have gone on a free transfer and make more , but he wanted to do right by the team that offered him a chance. And that at 16 ! and for a player like Mido who has always done nothing but what his own will made him do.

Jul 11, 2011 at 12:15 PM | Unregistered CommenterBelgian Spur

The whole Modric situation has left me disappointed, angry and quite upset. My question is, why sign a 6 year contract last season from saying this:

" Tottenham Hotspur game me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them. Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs but I have no interest in going anywhere. Last season’s top four finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want at Spurs"

To This:

“Now the time has come to go my own way and I ask them to understand my situation"
“I told him I want to go and the reason is my ambition to play for a club which is challenging for the English title and the European Championship
“I will be 26 soon and I’m convinced it is right for me to take me chance in my career”

So why 12 months on the sudden change of heart?

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's been tapped up by Chelsea, it's obvious actually, Roman's yaught being in the same place where Luka was on holiday, Luka's comments about Villas-Boas wanting him (hardly been tactful has he) and the fact that Chelsea have done this in the past and will continue to do so unless successfully proved guilty.

The whole thing stinks of naivety on his and his agent's part, verbal or no verbal agreement everyone knows it's not official unless it's in the contract and he now expects Spurs to accept Chelsea's derisory offer of £22m for him, come on Luka, don't be an idiot! He seems to think that because Chelsea have made a bid we have to accept it to fulfil his wishes, is that not just being plain selfish?

Luka talks of gentleman's agreements between Levy and Modric but you could say that he had a gentleman's agreement between the Spurs management/fans and him by saying what he said when he signed. Yes we didn’t make CL this season however with a few additions there's no reason why we can't push for another CL place this season.

I can't help but feel Redknapp is partly to blame to, some of his comments must have the players shaking their heads in disbelief at times, the "as good as it gets comment" in particular was pretty stupid not to mention the Chelsea love in on Saturday, okay the damage had already been done but surely that can't be helping matters, you really do wonder what he says to the players behind closed doors, and part of me thinks that he's resigned to lose Luka and wants him gone to free up some funds so he can spend it on his targets.

And I have to say that whilst Levy has played this well I am a little disappointed by his stance in the meeting between himself and Modric. I would expect him to talk him out of his mindset and make him believe that this is the place to be, using emotional blackmail over his comments last year and point out the fact he signed a 6 year deal last season, make him realise that he needs to show at least a bit of loyalty, maybe give him an option of another year and allow him to leave pending we don't make it into the CL but going by what Modric has said in the interview he seems like he's told him my way or the high way which is believable.

The media have been truly pathetic in all of this, they’ve always been about stirring absolute rubbish and creating negative press, it’s what people take notice of the most. Constantly misquoting, making headlines out of nothing, trying desperately to get exclusives and making up stories doesn’t only unsettle the player, it unsettles the rest of the team and the fans. Constantly pandering to the big 4, it’s disgusting.

To be honest now he's just burnt his bridges with Spurs and I know as fans we like to jump the gun at times but he's coming across as a spoilt little brat now who is sneakily trying to engineer himself out of the club by talking to the press, does he have any idea how this affects us? he is potentially ruining our season, unsettling the other players, destabilising the team and undoing all the good work we've put in the last couple of years by acting like a spoilt c*nt who wants his own way and if he doesn't will do almost anything to get his own way. That's not the Luka we know, that's not the Luka we've grown to love over the past three years, it's just unbelievable to how desperate and spiteful how people in general can get only to turn around and effectively stick who fingers up at the people who gave him chance in the big time when others were saying you were too small and couldn't hack it, this is the thanks we get?!!

So what now?, well we don't have a choice but to sell him but honestly I would rather sell him to Man Utd than Chelsea and I absolutely stand by that. I have more respect for Utd as a club than Chelsea and they are more of a pure football club than Chelsea ever will be and that’s the truth. As much as it pains me to say that I cannot stand Utd one bit. There must be someone else who can afford him and need him - anyone but Chelsea.

Tis a damn shame to think that he was in a minority of footballers that I and many people truly respected as a football player both on and off the pitch, he always seemed a very humble person but guess I was wrong. Life goes on though, there was life before Luka and definitely life after him, we must now aim to bring in some real quality in the next few weeks, perhaps even a replacement for him but we need to prepare for life without him – no player is bigger than our club .

Agree with your sentiments Belgian Spur. Not just this game, but every professional team sport has gone the way of the mercenary. Is the Spanish League any different from the Scottish League? There are two teams that dominate and the rest...cannon fodder. And the people in charge of these leagues don't rock the boat because they don't bite the hands that feed them.
Same in EPL. Those in charge cowtow to the Big 4. Big 4 say jump, they say how high.
It's all about money.

It doesn't look like we will be able to keep any decent players as long as Levey is running things because what should have happened is Luka needed someone to put their arm round him saying to play one more season and if you still want to go you can.In the mean time play out of your skin so we get the best price for you.So at the end of the season when we qualify for the Champions League he would probably change his mind and stay.
Unfortunately diplomacy doesn't seem to be Levy's strong point and as far as the reports go he was very cold to Luka told him he was staying or else and that was that.
Tottenham can now expect Gareth Bale Sandro and Van Dar Vart to all want moves,so how long before Redknapp jumps ship.
All I can say is thanks Levey for tearing the soul out of Spurs

Nothing to add to all the excellent debate above, but I like this story which is sort of relevant (and which may or may not be true). Mid 1960s - star player asks to see Bill Nick. He says "boss, I think I deserve a pay rise". Bill says "why's that, then?". Player says "well, I think I've improved a lot, I think I'm now one of the best players in the team and so I think I deserve a pay rise". Bill replies "do you? Well, I don't. Now fuck off."

Unless we can get shot of him by selling abroad let him sit it out in the reserves . If we sell to another Premiership rival then we may as well forget about ever being able to bridge the gap between ourselves and the big four as players like Bale will be next in line to demand a transfer.

Campbell first showed that loyalty post Bosman is dead. Then Carrick was the start of Spurs being perceived as a selling club and in a short space of time we have had Berbatov and Keane have some fun at the clubs' expense.

Time has come to put our foot down, Modric was happy to sign a six year contract and should now act with a bit more dignity .. trying to pass off the blame to Levy is cowardly and dishonest.

You all forget that Abramovitch is in with some very heavy people with contacts all over Eastern Europe and perhaps the most motivating factor is not the money or the CL but an offer that his family in Croatia simply cannot refuse a la Marlon Brando.

This is the only way that I can explain the absolute turnaround in his attitude.

However and whatever the cause: let him go for 45 million> Fabregas has far less on his contract and that is his price so Modric's with 5 years should be worth 45million.

However if levy f***s around with getting our new strikers then Modric is right we don 't deserve to be in the CL. IMHO Lewis should get of his a**e and make a difference for once instead of improving his suntan and watching currency speculation fill his bank. There is NO POINT in claiming a serious PL attempt when you buy yours strikers 4 matches into the season as for that Sunderland guy ? %mill + defoe? Who is kidding who?
