In the know: Tottenham Transfer Exclusive

The tumbleweeds still dominate the THFC landscape this summer transfer window. You only have to look across the barren desert to note that there is simply nothing out there. Other than perhaps a mirage or two. Yes, we have Sandro on his merry way to N17. dos Santos and perhaps one or two others (Adel? O'Hara?) might yet find redemption and a new lease of life in Lilywhite.

But when the Scott Parker non-event seems to be the main talking point along with updated speculation concerning Bellamy - you know that patience is being stretched. Yes, we want the moon on a stick. And yes, we want the club to build on the statement made last season, with 4th, by showing equal measures of ambition; Re-enforcement. But the waiting is killing us. And the headaches caused by those crazy last minute deals will no doubt cause plenty of facepalming and nail biting.

We don't really have a clue what's going on behind the scenes. Whether we have a definitive list of players we want and all the Harry sound-bites are simply mis-direction. Are we waiting to qualify for the CL group stages before we dip into the transfer kitty? Perhaps, perhaps not. One thing is for certain...

Levy isn't about to tell us a thing. So I guess, it's up to the I.T.K. community to once more, rescue us from this abyss of nothingness...

Next video coming soonish...Spurs v Man City: A Class War

We cannot approach the kind of players we dream about without qualifying for the champs league group stages -plain and simple, I’m sure we have two different lists, one for player who are happy to play in the Europa League and the second for players who will be more than happy to listen to offers from us if we qualify for the Champ league stages. In theory Man city have only bought name brands. I mean Toure is a decent player but come on he is by no means way than better The Thud (is he?), what the Thud has shown me is that Harry is able to transform player who are falling by the way side into top players. So I still do believe that Adel and Gio, could essentially have the tranformation Bale had. I bet you none of saw that coming. Silva is another player who should have left Valecia years ago (he's the kind ofp layer who will only play well at home. I can't imagine him skinning his defenders on a cold Tuesday night away to Stoke and teams alike. Definitely not better that Lennon. So it's not so much about buying players like these. Leave Harry to deal with his dealings, he is the god father of transfer dealings you should all know that by now. I mean if you look at teams like Arsenal, Manure and Chelski theonly manage to manitain there places year in years owing soley to the stability of players. Maybe we should learn something from this.

The unicorn floats high above, but the wildebeast continues to eat the crystal meth that has fallen from the cloud jacuzzi where the sulking clowns whistle for pie.

Unicorn. Horse with a horn on his head? Could mean that he's strikes the ball well with his head, or could be that he's better on the ground otherwise he'll puncture the ball. Floating high above means he's still a remote target and mythical.

Crystal meth eating wildebeast. Giving one of these things an upper would make it stampede - a raging animal. So we're trying to get in a tough nut. Defence or midfield? Wildebeast are pack animals and so I'd say guess this is a defender from 'the cloud jacuzzi where the sulking clowns whistle for pie'. That could only be Madchester City.

...So Richards it is then. Close?

Aug 1, 2010 at 3:31 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

Cant believe City would allow any of their players to come to Lane period, let alone on loan. We really do have to adopt a little common-sense right now and put ourselves in Levy's position. After years of buying big names, surely the time has come where we need to get a return on them and the best out of them, which is primarily the reason Harry was bought in. Harry wasted funds re-signing Keane, when there was no need whatsoever. I agreed with getting Defoe and Kabul back, but there are so many players that haven't really done anything so far. Wait and see our fate after the CL qualifiers, see who leaves and then judge?. On the same note I cant believe that Levy would get us this far and abandon the project when its so close to fruition either?

More idiots who dont know nowt about football, taliking about football. Kinda like the reporters for the english national press, who have never kicked a professional ball, let alone a semi - professional one. For me it really is annoying, to hear so called avid fans, (people who watch football week in week out ) talking nonsense.
i am a Spurs fan but please dont chat shit about football or our team. Yaya Toure is better than Tom "the Wide Back" huddlestone. Just look at his medals and the team he has played for, his experience of playing at the highest level and if spurs could afford him he would walk into our first team in an instant. He is better than Tom and Palacios put together which is why he cost more than the both of them together. Villa is better than Lennon. He is more consistent, scores more goals , can cross better (Lennon only learnt how to cross only last season. You have been watching him over the years or is it only last year when you started watching football), has played at a higher level than Lennon, has a football brain than lennon, is a better technical player than lennon oh yeh and he has a world cup medal.
what type of players do you want at Spurs, ones who will improve the team both technically and mentally or players who you are just used to watching. The world cup we all saw is not about how big you are but about having technical ability, being able to pass and move (not 30/50 yard passes to one of the smallest players on the pitch) and having many players on the pitch who have an eye and can score goals, thus creating a sense of danger for the opposition at all times. When Defoe and Pav didnt score, who else on our team can make up for them, until Kranjar there wasnt no one really. We need more players with the ability to score gols.
Football is simple, if you use your brians. its just not alot of teams do. Spain are the best team in the world so why dont we learn from the players in that league and bring them into our team. Simple really isnt it!!!

Hey Jose - whos your rant aimed at?

Aug 1, 2010 at 4:38 PM | Unregistered Commentertonk

Really huh? So basically you have no CBs to speak of and you think we are ok as is?. You dont plan a season on the hope that King will be able to play. He won't...so get over it. Woodgate is finished, and even if he were to come back, it would take half a season for him to get back to game sharpness. Again, you count him out and if he comes back its a bonus. Dawson has had one good season and still, if Dawson is the best you can hope for at CB then youre in some serious trouble. Would Dawson get on the first team of any of the top 10 Champions league teams? Dont think so. Bassong? A long way off still and a solid backup player at best. The most disturbing thing about all this is how the team could go into the start of the season and have done absolutely nothing about this situation. What, were they hoping that Woodgate would make a recovery after all this time and that King would miraculously be as good as new? All this talk about King makes me nuts. Sorry to wake you up but King, even when he is ok to play, has been inconsistent. He could be a leader on the field (when he's playing) but that's a big COULD...the reality is that he's also been skinned more than a few times last year by pacey strikers and wingers and he's been caught more than once out of position. So much for the man who is supposed to be able to make up for a lack of pace by smart positional play. Sorry, but he's not that smart a player either...and its cost us a few goals last year. Time is running out or we are looking at 7th place and no Champions league proper.

signing Joe Cole: thats a booking

Aug 1, 2010 at 5:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterHoward Webb

Woodside striker well said. As i have mentioned on here before CB position os a worry to me a the spine of the team is crap compared to others in england, let alone those in Europe.
I keep on saying it we need to get rid of King. If you ran a business a one of your star sales staff hardly ever turned up, you would cut your losses and get rid of him and get someone else in who was more consistent even if he got smaller deals. On here I said Spurs could look at Diego Lugano (Uraguay/ Fenerbache)- voted the best catain at world cup 2010. Playing in the turkish league , a few years left on his contract and we could get him for under 8 million, CB is one of the most important positions on the pitch and at the moment we have only 2 and none of them would get into any other top league team across Europe. Dawson, even though he had a good season, lacks concentration and has trouble with the flight of a ball coming from deep (when its across him he is fine). Bassong needs more experience at the top level, comes out of position every now and again aand with 1-on-1s he is shit. i am sure he has been told how to defend this situation in training but in the heat of a game he loses his positional sense ( he needs to get closer to the man without the ball, and show the attacking player insde into the space, away from goal. Sol "gay" Camp Bell was good at this. Vermarlen of the Scum is quality in this situation and in the World Cup Final, Puyol showed twice how its done even when he got skinned, which alowed Cassillas to come out and make saves on the edge of his area).
Hangeland is another "top, top" CB, we should try and get. He has premiership and Euro experience and every top 5 teams' defences last season would be improved with him. Imagine Dawson partnering him. he is more tactically aware than dawson and can organise the team in front of him alot better than Dawson. Fulham are crap but look how he organised his defence. Roy hodgson can tell them only so much, once they cross that line its up to the players.
We MUST BUY A CB if we want to give ourselves a chance in Europe, preferbably one with experience of playing at the highest levels.

Special one, Spain's reserve keeper has a world cup medal too.

We can go on and on about who would improve the team but Harry reminds us everyday that there's no money . E en saying we don't have 11 mil to spend on Ireland. In the years past that was chump change but guess we are really broke.

Aug 1, 2010 at 5:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpursLA

Toure played in a team that would have made even the likes of Heskey look good, looking at his medal means nothing. He couldn't even get into the team when Iniesta, Xavi and Pedro were fit. Barcelona do not get rid of their best players!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Dos Santos also played for Barcelona and by his accounts and our scouts looked class with class players around him (still yet to set the Lane alight). Your missing the point-Huddlestone wide back or whatever you called him has been able to use his disadvantage (size) in a way that has impressed me, and that's down to hard work and his composure on the ball and his ability to use both feet is similar to how the Spanish play, you can't fault him for trying to play tht type of football. Your what's wrong with Tottenham, when players make significat strides in the right direction some scum f..cks always try to bring them down. Soon you will start saying Bale can't beat 5 men!!!. Villa is better than Lennon I agree so what's your point, if you look at my post I was referring to Lennon being better than Silva or has your footballing knowledge let you down.

And for the records I think Djimi Taroe former Liverpool left back has a Champions League medal however he was one of the worst left backs in Europe.

The special one speaks as if he has played at a high level-I myself boast a cv which is rather impressive, Walsall, Barnet, Hendon, Fisher Athletic, so I cannot see why you make the point like you've played at premiership level, if you had I'm sure you wouldn't be on this site

Aug 1, 2010 at 5:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterYid army

Ok lets all lay out our CV's before we post.

Islington Boys (trial, two years running))
University 1st 11 (But that was in goal so it probably doesn't count.)
Fish Bobbers (Hull Sunday League Division 3). 7 a side cup winners medal.
Molescroft Old Boys. (2nd.team captain) Best old player award. (Over 35)
Donington On Bain (Louth League) Best player with a beard.

I could go on but it's best to stop when your readers interest is at its height.
Bugger! I've forgotton what I was going to say.

Bobby Charlton was great player but a poor manager. His brother was not but a good manager.
Catch my drift?

Diego Lugano has a release clause in his contract for a mere 3.5 million EUROs , his agent confirmed it during the WC 2010. He is an OK CB and proper tough nut, a captain material but too many mad moments and too many bookings, sending offs , also he lacks pace and gets caught too close to strikers and gets turned very easily..great in the air though..debatable choice for a CB..Servet Cetin of Galatasaray is much better and wont cost much.

ITKs are bears????

Aug 1, 2010 at 6:34 PM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi@ibleedhotspur

i hold my hands up but i meant Silva not villa, who is still better than Lennon. Scored more goals, got more assists, played at a higher level more consistently than Lennon and if your were money bags city, with all the money you have, why would you buy a player from another league, who has no premiership experience over one who has the experience and apparently is better. Sounds a similar deal to Benitez trying to sell Alonso so he could by Barry. We all know Alonso is better than Barry and that was such a stupid situation, that it didnt even come off.
Yaya has played in the barca first team for 3 seasons. he was immense the season they won the treble. Last season Busquets got into the first team, due to an injured Yaya and kept his place (unfortunately( but luckily for my point, Barca didnt win the treble, the year Yaya wasnt the main defensive midfielder in the team).
Dos Santos was not class at barca, he played 20 odd games 2007-08, mainly as a sub when they were cruising against the lesser teams and as we do in england and Spurs, we rush out and buy the next wunderkid (Dos Santos has good agents). When spurs bought him I said it was a mistake at the time and i stand by my words. He just simply is not good enough.
Huddlestone being big and strong is not a disadvantage but what is hopeless is how long it has taken him to use it. Many players wish they were as big as him but use what they have to their advantage. Modirc - Skinny, canny and isnt afraid to put a foot in.. You are telling me that you are happy, That Tom "the back" hudd has at last found out how to use it too his advantage. I dont fault his technical ability or his style of playing football but it hasnt been until Palacios came into the team that he has learnt to use his weight. I dont even think he is crap but I think Yaya is better than him. Simple. Man for man, who would you have in your team. When we havent got the ball due to his "disadvantage", should he not, put himself about a bit more on the pitch. Yaya does this better than him. Fottball is just as much about what you do when you havent got the ball as when you have it and having played at Hendon, Barnet , Fischer athletic and Wallsall, you should no more than most.
If I was Mr Levy, who's negotional skills i question, (why are all Spurs deals done last minute.com?) would be trying to by a CB (Diego Lugano who Fenerbache fans call TOTA with the words as Talento, Orgullo, Tecnico, Ambicion (Talent, Pride, Skillfulness, Ambition in Spanish/ Hangeland), a Striker (Podolski, Gyan - as it seems we will play 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 in Europe), left sided player (Fábio Coentrão- Benfica/ Portugal), another CM (Annan-ghana (who i mentioned on here, a while back, as a player we should sign and now it appears Man.U want him) or Diego Perez - Uruguay/ Bolonga) and getting rid of Jenas the Penas.
All are affordable and will improve the squad especilally with the european experience they have. Teams that do well in champions league have alot of players who can adapt or have played in different football systems and leagues.

Gomes
Corluka, Dawson, Lugano, Bale
Lennon, Palacios, Sandro,
Modric
Podolski, Defoe

Aug 1, 2010 at 6:53 PM | Unregistered Commenterthe special one

SpursLA , Harry didnt say he aint got £11 million , he said Man City since they pay over the odds for standard quality players, they will probably ask for £11 million for Ireland, who in real terms is worth probably £3 mil to £4 mil ,all Harry mentioned was that really..he would sign Ireland for his real market value..he aint got money for inflated values..quite rightly so too...

Aug 1, 2010 at 8:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterIver Biggen

Keane will be key to our CL campaign, down the years he used to rise for the big matches. I think Keane will be key to the CL campaign. I believe that GDS will be given a chance as cover for Lennon and as a back-up striker. I think this will mean Bentley will go, Fulham calling me thinks...I think Spurs have got a fair bit of experience, we just need 1 or 2 regular CL players to add something. Which is why I like Marquez on a free, he could certainly keep GDS in check and think we need a solid midfielder.

Aug 1, 2010 at 8:38 PM | Unregistered CommenterVicenzo

I think we should really go for Rafa Marquez, who's being released by Barcelona. 31, solid, mobile and experienced. Just what we need for the CL. Dawson would thrive next to him. Please make it happen Harry!!

The Special one, what the hell are you on mate. Ya Ya's better than Hudd because he has more medals?, well for starters he's older and therefore has had more time, secondly he's played in a side that's far better than Spurs, but in an inferior league, so oh great one how can you possibly make comparisons? As a so called Spurs supporter, you tend to big City a great deal, but you're forgetting that City have yet to make it happen team wise, for all their expenditure?.And your views are merely conjecture, because in your own words you know bugger all, because you're not qualified to say so, I' repeat... your words. Using your synopsis, any fan who hasn't played the game at any reasonable level shouldn't voice an opinion?, so why are you on a forum for fans voicing an opinion anyway? look carefully at the computer and find the off and on switch, press hard and off it goes, couldn't be simpler, but then again

Aug 1, 2010 at 10:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterEssexian76

Also you've put Sandro straight in, so you've seen him play then? , and Podolski's a real world beater isn't he, yeah lets break the bank and wage structure on your wonder side!. You put Palacios in also, yet can you name a player who played worse in the pre-xmas period, the man was a bloody liability mate, try watching the game instead of preening yourself in the mirror eh?

Aug 1, 2010 at 10:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterEssexian76

Sandro is in brazil til mid august, he's then gotta move his life across the world and train and prove himself worthy of getting into the 25 man squad for the prem in 2 weeks.

We wont see him play in a spurs shirt until at least January.

Aug 1, 2010 at 11:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterYiddogray

"you dizzy motherfucker"--<snort, snigger>

"Leave Harry to deal with his dealings, he is the god father of transfer dealings "--Since that is perilously close to what he's going on trial for, perhaps a better choice of words? BTW, per the terms of the new contract, if he's found guilty, he's automatically sacked. But the trial could be pushed back to April, so hopefully no mid-season disruption for non-footballing reasons.

I guess we're all getting stressed and ratty with the lack of signings and movement. It doesn't help that we don't know who our opponents will be for that qualifying match. Isn't the draw for that this week?

We've only two friendlies left before ManCity so I desperately hope we'll see the real first team playing in those.

Aug 1, 2010 at 11:29 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Harry has nothing to worry about the trial----if he gets sent down then so be it ---hopefully he would have bought a marquee player by then!

Special one---I have hardly heard of the players you have mentioned and if any of these are as good as you say I can't see other teams making any attempts to buy them. I am aware of Poldski (no one has really wanted to gamble on this guy). The same with Fábio Coentrão-

I would love to have Hangeland in our team--but feel that as soon as we show an interest then the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal will start sniffing.

Gyan as much as I liked his endeavour and honesty-would not score more that 9 goals per season, he's the kind of of player that would miss sitters on the regular basis. I tend not to JUDGE player based on 7 world cup games, which is suicide. Ask Gerald Houllier (diao, diouf.....and the rest). Redknapp and his cohorts would have had their targets from the start of the year. You also mentioned how The Thud only started to put it about a bit more once he played with Wilson---that's what younger players do, learn from those with more experience. We all need someone to hold your hands at times. Ivcan't think of one player who says he has developed his game by wacthing himself. Cesc would not have been the player he is today without Patrick Veira and Petit. Scholes, Nicky Butt all learnt how to apply themselves on the field by training with and playing alongside Keane, Ince, Bruce...the list goes on.

I also believe Pav and Keane could be our answer in Europe.
We need to sell first anyway---can only register 25---so wouldn't make any sense adding to the squad that has at least 9-10 central midfielders alone. I think it's wrong to right off Santos-just give him the time we gave Bale and Thud.

I think the biggest problem this transfer window is Man. City.

Firstly, they are spoiling the transfer window with their excessive transfer fees and wages. This makes it difficult for buying clubs to pay value for money (ahem). I am sure we would have acquired Parker if we had offered more. Ditto for Cole's wages. But whatever for?

Secondly, by acquiring so many players (and foreign players at that), some will have to leave. Either they have become bad businessmen overnight (and simply throw money away) or I would in their shoes extract maximum from any sale to prospective buyers to recoup money spent acquiring them in the first place or to cover spent on others. In other words, Ireland, Richards, Bellamy et al (anyone in whom we are interested) would cost more than their market value.

1. The bigger problem for us is, if we havent acquired anyone by now, we should focus on consolidating for the new season, rather than look to buy. Its a little too late to go around buying a new guy hoping he will fit into our system.
2. If, as some so desparately allude to in this forum, we really cannot afford not to acquire new blood, then we could look at alternative choices. There are always alternatives. U-21 stars, CL experienced players from other lesser-known leagues. Promoting from our academy.
3. Our team turned over many in the EPL last season, including the league double over Blackburn, West Ham, Wigan, Man. City. We lost twice to Man Utd and Wolves. We dont have a bad side, and we have stability and familiarity. Have some faith.

HR reckons that as soon as the Milner to City deal is done, that will free up the market. Does that mean Villa will splurge their windfall on Keane and then the dominoes will start to fall perhaps?

Oh and some outlets are saying Taraabt is on his way to QPR via the bargain bin. Those "big foreign clubs" he alluded to as being interested in him never materialised. Off to the Championship for new Zidane, then.
