No knee-jerking permitted

Same old Tottenham eh? Does 4th spot get taken away from us now? Harry out and all that jazz.

We decided to stop playing once we saw there was no chance of third place. We let Burnley climb a place on goal difference so they could get their position bonus.

May 9, 2010 at 6:06 PM | Unregistered Commenterthfc-lac

Stunning goal by Modric. That was about it.

Still. 4th. Who gives a shit right?

May 9, 2010 at 6:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterGeneral Brickhouse

I feel sorry for the fans who paid good money to travel and watch that shit.

May 9, 2010 at 6:08 PM | Unregistered Commentersinger

I figure at half time they heard about Fulham's reserves getting hammered, realized the result didn't matter and decided to indulge in a random act of kindness by letting Burnley's fans enjoy one last happy day in the Prem. Come on, it had to be deliberate! No one's scored four against us all year.

Really, does it matter in any meaningful way?

May 9, 2010 at 6:10 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

What singer said; they ought to refund the tickets for the away fans and pay their travelling expenses. No pride at all in switching off like that. None of the players did their England chances any favour. Alnwick was fucking shit, clearly League 2 material.

SACK THE BOARD, SACK THE BOARD, SACK THE BOARD

May 9, 2010 at 6:20 PM | Unregistered CommenterTWO-TON-TOM

yeah, that was a tad embarrassing. After half time they just couldn't be arsed, could they? Not that I'm going to lose any sleep over it

May 9, 2010 at 6:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterHods Cods

Should of been 4-0 at least before Burnely scored, we ripped them apart, with flowing football. They must have seen the Arsenal score against Fulham reserves and took their foot off the gas big time 2nd half though we hit the woodwork twice we switched off. So glad we sorted 4th out on Wednesday and Gomes made the game! I always thought Burnley would be a horrible game to end on. We've finished 4th and nobody thought we would do that. Fantastic! Really hope we sign another centre back and left back over the summer.

May 9, 2010 at 6:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterRick

Yet, I think the traveling fans pain might be somewhat assuaged by the certain knowledge of champions league next season. They will after all, get loyalty points for this, increasing their chance of CL tickets.

Mellow out, dudes. It was an extremely rare thing, a truly meaningless match. Yeah, the team took their foot off the pedal in the second half, but Harry chose to put out the full first team, who have got to be physically and emotionally knackered by now. By the second half it was clear there was no way to catch the arse, so why risk injuring yourself chasing empty points.

Some people just like to find things to get angry about.

May 9, 2010 at 6:26 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

I'm happy for Burnley, good luck to them. But where the hell was the Spurs players pride? Yes we've got 4th & thats fantastic, but the difference is if we wish to be as good if not better than those above us, then we shouldn't roll over, even if the game doesn't matter points wise. There is NO WAY our peers above us would, & thats the difference.
Still can't wait for next season.

May 9, 2010 at 6:27 PM | Unregistered Commentermickey

The second half display was shocking. Half the team just gave up. We will never win anything more than 4th place with the likes of kaboul, crouch and BAE in the team. Useless bastards.

May 9, 2010 at 6:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterStoney

Strike force is a disaster area. Think it is 1 goal in the last 8 games from any of them. Pav and Defoe especially have had so much game time and produced nothing.
Aside from up front I would keep the squad intact for next season.

Best season ever though so well done Spurs for that.

May 9, 2010 at 6:28 PM | Unregistered CommenterNob

If ever there was an example of 'let's not bother' it was the second half. Do agree, for the sake of the travelling fans we could have quite easily powered to a win and just see the season off in spectacular fashion, but no surprise to see them switch off.

Still worth tuning into MotD for Lineker v Hansen.

May 9, 2010 at 6:29 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

hahahaha classic spuds!

congrats for finishing 4th! no benefit from it though as u will be knocked out in the first hurdle by east European team.

highest finish since fuck knows when and u r still 5 points below The Arsenal!!!!! and u are still partying for it!

see you next season!

May 9, 2010 at 6:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrook

LOL @ Brook.

Disappears for weeks and waits until its sort of okay to come out from under his rock. Textbook. Arsenal fans truly are the epitome of desperation.

LOL indeed.

May 9, 2010 at 6:31 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Jesus Christ Brook. You really THAT obvious?

May 9, 2010 at 6:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

Who cares about today.

4th spot.

Dicked Arsenal and Chelsea and City. Love it.

May 9, 2010 at 6:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterAuthor of Comment

Wasn't Brook telling us all we wouldn't finish 4th a while back and that Arsenal would beat Spurs easily at the Lane? Oh deary me how the mighty have fallen.

May 9, 2010 at 6:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterGrim down south

Right. Was looking forward to a bit of interweb give and take with fellow fans but given the turn that comments are taking and that pathetic tosser brook resurfacing, it's harshing my mellow, so I'm off.

"We will never win anything more than 4th place with the likes of kaboul, crouch and BAE in the team. Useless bastards."

I'd like to think this was a joke, but absent any little emoticons, I think you might be serious.

Toodles!

May 9, 2010 at 6:37 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Chaps, it's but one very needy Arsenal fan on a Spurs blog. Who cares?

Nice way for Burnley to finish off their Prem life. Even if it came by the way of charity from us. Shame we didn't score a third (Lennon) because had that gone in the game would have fizzled out. Not the best way to finish the season but anyone who dares complain needs their head checking out.

4th spot. It's ours.

May 9, 2010 at 6:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterTHFC Bal

Arsenal fans are still in shock after losing to Wigan and also that Danny Rose goal. They were bricking it today, which shows they are going backwards and we are going forwards again. Look how many goals they've shipped this season. More than us. It took until the last day of the seaon for them to confirm a finish one place higher then them. They haven't won anything for years and they are not happy so of course they will be clutching at straws. Sad lot. I really hope some of the so called Spurs fans don't start slagging the team off after the most points ever gained in the PL so far and sealing 4th spot and our Boss winning Manager of the year. The comment above about Kaboul and Crouch!!! WTH? Did you not see Kaboul against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City where we won ALL 3 games against all odds!!!!! Also I bet you weren't slagging Crouch off on Wednesday were you? When he played out of his skin and scored the winnig goal. How fickle can you get!!!! Give it a rest for f sake!

May 9, 2010 at 6:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterRick

I'm from a West Ham supporting family. I'm a yid. All I care about is Spurs 4th, West Ham 4th from bottom. 600 quids in. Have some of that Minty !

May 9, 2010 at 6:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterClassic Drastic

Gooners talking about Spurs, bless 'em there was a time they were neck and neck in for top spot. They stagnate with each passing season. We've improved. It's why they're back in our lives again. It's nice to be noticed.

May 9, 2010 at 6:44 PM | Unregistered Commenterkilljoy

We are Champions League, we are Champions League!

May 9, 2010 at 6:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterOops

Nice of Brook to show up before his bedtime.. It's actually quite worrying to see a person so obsessed with opposing team. Fiver says he'll need therapy by the time he's 21.

I think you're going to have a humbling dose of reality next season, when Chelsea, United and City take the top 3 and Arsenal are left to fight for 4th with the pack of 5 teams.

May 9, 2010 at 6:46 PM | Unregistered Commenterdocomospur

A great season overall but this match was a total let down, no pride, no professionalism. Really good sides don't let that 2nd half debacle happen, it's an age old Spurs weakness. I hope Harry bollocks them all rigid, especially the fullbacks. I swear BAE had his earphones in for the 2nd half. Harrywill know where he has to strengthen, at fullback and up front. Defoe plays well for half a season, Crouch misses too many chances and Pav, well, who knows whats with him, sometimes hot, usually(of late) cold.
Please Harry, find another Jimmy Greaves and/or Bobby Smith or Alan Gilzean.

May 9, 2010 at 6:48 PM | Unregistered Commenterrichg

HAHAHAHA! BROOK YOU SAD LITTLE COCK!
My beautiful season ended on Wednesday when we guaranteed 4th, how many weeks ago did Arsenal's??? you laughable little fuckmuppet! you've made my day coming back on here!!!!
Also love the way the inbreds are attempting to celebrate their St Totteringhams Day - - -Newsflash - I dont think it works on the last fucking day you sad bunch of cunts.. Bliss...There's only one team on the way up and it aint the goons. Seriously, thanks for popping over, its just brilliant to see how much you are hurting.
HAHAHAHAHA

Danny Rose

Ps - That was a gift to Burnley to send them down with, dont be too hard on the team lads, theyve done us proud this season. League table says we finished FOURTH.
That'll do me, we know we would have won had it been important, but it wasnt, because we already did the hard part...put your feet up for the holidays lads and be safe in the knowledge that gooners everwhere havent got a clue what next season holds - theyre shitting their french knickers.

Season ended on Wednesday night - thank God (again).

May 9, 2010 at 6:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterBig Fish

Shit second half performance. Reckon Harry will bollock them for that. Need to be a lot more focused and show some class and not switch in that manner but lets be honest, after Wed and the City game, I don't care at all about how this ended. Although sure, another decent 45 minutes would not have harmed them.

May 9, 2010 at 6:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterJep

for a realistic champions league run next season we NEED to get Ramos back, Rednapp is past it

May 9, 2010 at 6:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterSPURS NUT

Gooners eh? Gotta love their consistency in making themselves look like pricks. I hve an arsenal mate who has mentioned spurs in his last 20 facebook status updates. Concentrate on your own team you twats. As for today massively disrespectful to th fans who went up to watch what was essentially a nothing game. Thank god my mate lost our tickets!

May 9, 2010 at 6:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterFox Mulder

Some fresh legs to start the second half, belonging to some players off the bench with something to prove, may have sealed the deal. But I hope 'Arry shows the boys how top teams finish - 8-0, 4-0, 3-0 - even though all those teams knew there was nothing to play for at halftime, just like Spurs.

Still, can't complain too much. Fair play to Burnley.

May 9, 2010 at 7:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterRosie

I want to say it does not matter, but the truth is, it does.
Not the first time we have lost a 2 goal lead this season.
Losing today would not have been so bad had we not been 2-0 up.
How often do Man U/ Chelsea lose after being 2-0 up ?
If we want to get to that level, we need to eradicate todays type of showing.

May 9, 2010 at 7:14 PM | Unregistered Commenteryidbanker

Maybe Gomes was genuinely incapable today, but I wonder if Redknapp was also being a bit clever by selecting Alnwick, who had a shabby performance at Turf Moor last season. This was an opportunity for the young man to redeem himself at the scene of that disaster and display real character. I didn't see the game, so I don't know if Redknapp will now find reasons to keep him or get rid of him forthwith.

The match might also be considered an opportunity to test for general complacency. On the other hand - with fourth place guranteed and third place beyond our grasp - maybe Redknapp gave the players licence to chill while they can.

We can learn more from our failures than our successes. Every defeat is an incentive to grow stronger. It's been a good season so, while considering some details of concern, let's mainly enjoy the big picture.

May 9, 2010 at 7:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterDesktop

May 9, 2010 at 8:14 PM | Unregistered Commenterjohnnycheshunt

See what Spurs do, they give people like Brook a voice evey effing time. Man Utd would've known the Chelsea score at half time did they sit back? f%^king b0%%0cks. I'm well peeved. Jut hoping this is the kind of kick in the nuts we need before we turn up and get walloped in the qualifiers. I keep being told we are not in the Champions league yet and as much as I close my ears it's true. Same feeling as the Semi-final. Get real yids. I'm angry, so fecking angry. Love Harry, done a super job but there is something not right in this defeat. Soft backbone, bad mentality, something not right. We have so, so, so, so, much to do. I want Harry to be the man in charge. I so badly want proper Champions league football. Don't mess this up Spurs. Today is comparable to walking in and finding your bird semi naked with another fella, drinking beer while saying "we're just mates... wot's ya problem"

Sorry luv, this ain't right. Sort it out.

Buy big, think big and don't lose to teams like Burnley.

Feck, ball locks, liberty, ouch, shite, WTF... NOT RIGHT, WENGER IS A NONCE... IT'S NOT RIGHT.

Wolves x2, Stoke, Sunderland now Burnley.

May 9, 2010 at 8:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterBazmundo

Some of the starting eleven suffering the ill effects of post Wednesday celebrations (and no doubt being aware of the score at Emirates) . Caught up with them in the 2nd half. They are professionals and need to see out the season as such. Fabulous season, of course, but a shame to finish in this manner. They should know better. Unfortunately, there are some lads that like to 'socialise' and do not have the intelligence to know when is appropriate. They need to follow the example of the Croats. 2-4 against Burnley, in the manner it was, is not on. Real shame. What happened to putting the cherry on the cake? Wheres the respect for the travelling fans? Muppets.

It would be so unlike Spurs to end on a purely professional, prideful high note wouldn't it? We need to have at least a little reminder of potential dysfunction to torture us over the next few months :)
Good God, I fecking love this team! Warts and all!

May 10, 2010 at 12:14 AM | Unregistered Commentermickey

Why did 'Arry play King in what is arguably a meaningless match? If Alwick is the #1 backup keeper to Gomes then we will be in serious trouble next season. That guy is at best a division keeper. My grandma that is six feet under would have saved at least 2 of the goals conceded simply by lying down. What is wrong with our so called strikers? Have they forgotten the art of scoring? Lawd, I don't get it. Spurs know how to give me the high of the highs and stinker of all stinks.
