Kick it out? Sadly not

No place for racism in football. And homophobia. No place for it in any walk of life.

Read this earlier today: http://www.kickitout.org/news.php/news_id/4742

It irks me that Kick It Out have latched onto this 'story', considering that song and those charges were laughed at by a judge and thrown out of court because there was no case to answer for. You'd have missed that if you are a Daily Mail reader. In fact most of the tabloids were happy to post photos of the Spurs fans wanted for questioning but hardly reported on the fact that the two people (a father and son) who refused to accept the charges and fought on, won the day in the end. Not newsworthy enough for the agenda-obsessed media to print that as a follow-up with as much coverage as the initial witch-hunt.

Okay, that doesn't make much sense in context of the article linked above. I'm in full support of their (Kick it Out) campaign and awareness drive and I guess using the content they've used in their news article helps them raise some publicity and serves as a reminder for anyone who is stupid enough to consider doing anything stupid not to do it.

Let me explain my irkness.

It's Spurs who are saying they wont tolerate 'racist' abuse. But then Spurs and every club in the country don't and shouldn't tolerate this type of abuse, so its business as usual, no? The Daily Mail's report on this simply quotes a Spurs spokesmen talking about the NLD being high category and that there will be a police presence - no different to any other big game. Spurs are being sensitive to the potential hellmouth of bad publicity and will no doubt be relentless in removing anyone who over-steps the mark - which they have my full support of doing. No doubt one or two people might be removed for not over-stepping the mark, simply because the abuse is directed at a particular person out on the pitch. It's a thin line.

The usual propaganda rhetoric clouding the reality of the situation. There is sadly plenty of racism in football, but hardly any of it is ever directed 'him'.

Campbell is a liar, an ego-drunkard and a fantasist living in a Walter Mitty universe where he believes he has done no wrong and is above terrace chanting. I don't agree with the ambiguity 'that' particular song carries simply because its used by him and others as ammunition to deflect attention away and back on the 'bitter' fans who will never forget. It's a crude song, and it's embarrassing. You're asking for trouble if you sing it. Thankfully it's always been a minority. But ironically, a judge didn't deem it offensive. Which paints a picture of much confusion.

If you take yourself back to the very very first occasion he returned to WHL for the scum, after the game, he accused us of abusing him because of the colour of his skin. Us, Spurs fans, black and white on and off the pitch, racists - according to him. Yes, that's why we hate you Sol. Because you're black and not because you're a treacherous Judas (*sigh*). One or two radio presenters - one an ex-player and the same colour as Campbell laughed at this when it was once more repeated a few years back. But that's all nothing more than minor details lost in the sea of delusion that our protagonist is swimming in.

Somehow him swapping Lilywhite for period red was 'ok' in his books. He actually believes we owe him our blessing. He is actually angered by OUR reaction to him. Which is only going to incite our fans telling him exactly how we feel at every opportunity. Many of us have never let go. Something he hasn't done either.

If fans want to shout and scream at him, they should. Not because we still have sleepless nights about his crime. I don't. It was so long ago. But if screaming non-racist and non-homophobic abuse at him 'gets him rattled' then go for it. We do it to John Terry. Lampard. Bellamy etc etc.

There are plenty more footballers out there who are victims of torrents of abusive screams. Just ask Steven Gerrard and the welcome he gets from the Everton faithful. But he just gets on with it. Just ask Arsene Wenger. And yet there is Campbell, unique and special, forever bringing it to everyone's attention when perhaps if he acted the man and ignored it we wouldn't be talking about it.

And there you go. I always promise myself to ignore this bullshit and yet still end up having to jot a few thoughts down. Soz. I can't help but react to the Daily Mail.

Kick it out? Sadly not. We have to wait for him to retire first.

Back on topic tomorrow. FA Cup semi-final preview which then takes us nicely into next week and the NLD followed by another derby against that little club from Fulham.

Can't disagree with a single word. Shame you need to blog about it though because it adds fuel but then we'd live in a world of no opinion if we sat back and said nothing.

Non-stories make up most of the news. I wouldn't fret about it Spooky. Campbell will be abused on Wednesday if he plays. He'll get abuse because he's a c**t.

perhaps you could send it to the politically correct brigade at kick it out who havnt got a clue

Happened years ago? Yes.
We should move on? Yes.

Will we move on? Of course not.

No reason to move on. We should remind Judas of his crimes every single team he plays against us. Hope he plays next week.

The guy is a mug.

I past the him leaving thing, it's just the press needing to sell papers by bringing it up that piss me off. He'll play, we'll sing, more Sun photos and 4 days of papers sold - culminating in a NOTW double page spread on him and how he fails to understand our dislike for him.

Cunt.

This issue, only we as Spurs supporters seem to understand fully (and Campbell of course but he is..well anyway). As stated the song is crude but how many terrace chants aren't I remember Ian Wright getting dogs abuse and that was from the Hammers fans when he played for them before we chipped in. Look at our own JD in terms of racial abuse from the likey lads of Green St.
Back to Kick It Out and the supporting press, we as Tottenham fans are being vicitimised, just once the powers that be at the club should hold an internal enquiry, cite the decision of the appeal judge and tell the jobsworth on Campbell's payroll to stick it up their arse ( I may pen a ditty along those lyrics).

I agree with all you say but two things: 1) as The Guardian said "it is a wonderfully tight piece of prose" even though it is wrong in many ways; 2) as is consistent with my beliefs relating to humour in general, you cant censor and make terrace homour politically correct - it is a raw and totally honest manifestation of the feelings of those devotees who stand week in and week out behind the goal, it simply can't be wrong - whether you agree with it or consider it uncouth or bigoted or whatever it is the perogative of the terrace to speak it's mind - that is the nature of the beast COYS

What do you mean "you people"? Spot on spooky! Errrrr how racist does that sound? I feel like a teenager from back to the future in the 60s...

'cmon spooky!! the only way a Spud player can win a title is by fleeing the disaster area called 'WHL'. that's what exactly Sol did and look at how many Cups he won! i guess more that you spuds won your entire existence!

here's a wee saturday morning story for you. The day that piece of shit signed for the filth i was naturally a tad upset, I was working in old st and was definitely struggling to get anything done. Of i jogged to grab a coffe from near to the station and like a bullet from a gun it hit me! i was faced with a dude wearing one of their filthy dirty shirts and im staring at a number 23 with a certain fellas name under it. My first thought was this guy was taking the FUCKING PISS out of me PERSONALLY so i launched myself at him punching him straight to the ground in broad daylight and in front of many folk. I really didnt care . I wasnt arrested and the filthy dude i tore into literaly got up and bolted, the thing about this story is that im not a football hooligan just someone who loves his club so much and despises the neighours in equal measure. Theres plenty of us out there , watch out mr campbell. COYS XX

so sad and unhealthy r so many chants on the terraces.beyond a joke and unhealthy....fans who chant abuse at players arent funny.and its not acceptable.and if u need a government department to tell u thats its unaccpetable then u have no conscience...the day that campbell gets a polite clap and a thanks for his many years of service at whl is the day im longing to see...forgive and move on....coys..

How did you find your way on here Simon - youre obviously not a Tottenham fan. Just to remind you, Sol has earned millions of pounds from football, much of it by stabbing the club he captained in the back. After his 90 minutes on the field against us twice a year, he drives off in his Bentley, Aston Martin or whatever to one of his multiple designer homes and has six months to recover. I think he should be able to cope with it. Of course the question is, why cant he handle it and why is he happy to see ordinary supporters in court for singing something everyone is thinking and that other players have no problem putting up with? The answer is simple - he's a c*nt with a guilty conscience who wont face up to it, so he deserves everythingg he gets, whether that is silent disdain or loud abuse.

My only concern is that I would hate to see any more fellow supporters in court or sanctions against the club. I hope he plays and that our players do the talking for us by exposing his ;lack of pace/turning ability and getting the c*nt sent off.

Apr 10, 2010 at 8:19 AM | Unregistered Commenterleonardo

Some interesting views here. Varying from Matt's, 'anything goes; it's a football match' to Simon's, 'he deserves a polite clap' (are you serious?).

I tend to favour Matt's view. The atmosphere against Pompey at the Lane the last time Judas came back was definitely affected by all the bollox that went on after Pompey away. It was more subdued than it otherwise would have been. La la-ing the chant was amusing at the time, but telling the fans they will be arrested for singing is a very slippery slope.

For me it's football's equivalent of booing the pantomime villain. The language might not be nice, but if you're that sensitive, don't go.

I didn't realise that Walker was cup tied as well. I'm really concerned about our team for this weekend. Lets summarize worst case in the back 4: No Woodgate, King, Dawson, Kaboul (cup tied), Walker (cup tied), Corluka, Huddlestone. That's 5 central defenders in-eligble including our 'emergency pair' of Huddlestone and Corluka. And both our right backs? At a guess, that means a back four of BAE at RB, Bassong and Devritte, and Bale at LB? That is not inspiring at all. Not alot of faith Bassong unless he's paired with Dawson or King. BAE might be alright at RB but a bit worried and who the heck knows what you get from Devritte. Than the midfield could look like anything. I guess Modric, Krnacjar, Palacios (risking that yellow), Bentley? It's nice to have the full compliment of forwards available but can't play more than 2 up front.

Apr 10, 2010 at 10:14 AM | Unregistered Commenteranon

How about instead of chanting abuse at him we all turn up with this picture printed on A3 and hold it up for the first 5 minutes of the game. Possibly with a naughty word beginning with c written next to it?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/2010/04/06/sol-campbell-and-james-anderson-join-our-naked-sports-stars-gallery-115875-22165479/

I have never forgiven Campbell and I never will. And I hate that for some reason we are ridiculed for feeling like this. It's not that he left. It's not even that he went to Arsenal. It's his decision who he plays for. It's the way he strung the club along for 2 years so he could fuck off for free and pocket more cash for him and that shitbag sky andrew. That shows incredible selfishness and lack of respect. If he could just admit that he was motivated by money, that in hindsight it was an unfair thing to do to spurs and the fans, then I might, maybe, start to forgive him. But no, he makes it worse by sitting in his ivory tower, protesting his innocence and even complaining about the fans behaviour.

And why is racism even an issue here? No one is being racist. Has anyone seen our current squad? Maybe the Daily Mail should take a trip down to those LAAAAVABLE east end rapscallions West Ham if they want to see real bigotry on the terraces. Or is it more acceptable to insult jews than black people?

rant....over

This was the reason I decided not to include Mr Cambell in the 'list' of players for both pomey and spurs. He still adds fuel to the debate at each turn when he denies any wrongdoing.

My feelings on this are simple, I have learnt a few things from my dad over the years, two of which are:

- You are defined [as a person] not by what you say you are going to do, butby what you actually do.

- You reap what you sow.

Was I angy at the manner that he made his departure? yes of course, he had lied through is teeth (words) to make more money for himself upon his departure (actions).

Does he deserve to be reminded of that fact? well I see no reason not to, for as ong as he potests then h should be reminded, otherwise hemay start to bleive his own delusions. Of course none of it should be 'racist' or 'homophobic', but inevitably 'we' the fans all have different ways of expressing ourselves. That is out of the control of individuals who form part of the 'we'.

But to the second part of my fathers wisdoms, I hope that his comeuppance will ocur one day, when he realises the error of his actions and words because he is somehow forced to.

Let's face it this is a man who is suig a bankrupt club for 'image rights' which was a roundabout way of collecting a healthy 'bonus' at pompey having signed on a free. And only last week posed nude for a calendar for charity. It is a perverse world that he mus live in where these two incidents co-exist.

And one that will not last when the money has stopped rolling in and the 'yes men' have move on to their new 'pound of flesh'. It may be some time in coming, but it will happen.

And when that day happens, and the chonology of his demise is pondered, our long memories will be served well.

Until that day he deserves no virtiol from me, as I don't feel he is worth it (my choice), the most I cn muster up for someone of this ilk is apathy, in spades.

As someone over at GG pointed out, this will be the very last time (probably) that he ever runs out at WHL. If he does play.

You know Spooky, I believe in free speech...however, the fact a mug cunt like Brook has to come over and give it the obligatory 'he left for bigger things' bullshit leads me to believe that YOU should delete the cunt out of sight forever more.
No, seriously, as a Spurs fan I wont be reading anymore if you allow ponces like this to spout the same tripe I hear on 606 'just because they can', because quite simply:gooners haven't got a fucking clue exactly what that judas cunt did...they don't get it......fair enough if they don't (if they are THAT fucking thick...it's their problem) but seriously, like a surgeon to a tranny..please get rid of the little prick.
Fact is, they have no idea...no clue what it is that scumbag did: the lies, the lies and hey! fuck it, the lies! , the deception, the bullshit, not forgetting the fact the cunt (AND HE IS NOWT MORE THAN A CUNT) has never been involved in a transfer between 2 clubs (unlike 90% of the fellow pros in the profession he chose) He's a money grabbing, egotistical, foul, woe-is-me self serving dirty, filthy cunt bag who deserves everything our fans in the crowd will throw at him.
The fact the cuntface still don't get it makes me laugh, I hope we send him doolally so he's writing his own name in his own shit come the following Monday.....Quite simply. If I met the contemptous gayboy cunt, I'd rape him with a chair leg and then choke him with it....sadly, he'd probably enjoy that the cunt.

This might be the last chance we have to let him know what he did - Let's not let him down eh?
