Let's bolt-on Pav for another goal-fest

Afternoon.

I'm completely devoid of any creative juice currently. It's a lull so do not fret. This is what happens when you spend most days shopping for Tommee Tippee and deciding whether you should opt for Bugaboo or Maxi Cosi. Football becomes a fantasy world you escape to when hiding under tables from your heavily pregnant partner, who has became a Huddlestonesque figure consuming all before her (mostly chocolate). Thankfully she's about as slow as big Tom so the threat is minimal. Although she's got more bite then Jenas so she could potentially do a job in our midfield. Then again, the fluff in my belly-button could potentially do a job in our midfield as an alternative to Jenas.

This is not to say I'm about to disappear under an avalanche of nappies and baby milk. I blog therefore I am. Still playing around with the idea of having some guest writers on here for the days spent hallucinating due to extreme tiredness, although on such days I could potentially do a job in our midfield as an alternative...

But, as I said, this is just a lull. One that will no doubt be forgotten about after this evening when Super Pav notches a hat-trick (one with his left, one with his right, one with his head) and runs across to the bench to celebrate, sliding on knees and twitching in front of Harry who later explains in the post match interview that this was the plan all along, to hold back the Russian until the run-in and release him into the wild to do much destruction and damage in the way of casual clinical finishes as we go on full attack for both 4th spot and the Cup. A sort of 4th place in the league Cup double. There's a DVD in there somewhere I'm certain of it.

Tonight is vital IMO. And I doubt you'll disagree. I want an FA Cup final. It's been too long. One game at a time, mind. So Bolton have to be brushed aside with a bit of that olde swagger. It's not something to be ignored or fudged up by perhaps shifting players out of the side and doing a spot of tinkering with selection. I want to see our strongest side this evening, do a job and do it well. And then more of the same against Everton on Saturday. However I don't expect the side to be as strong as it will be when facing Moyes side. As long as the backbone retains its shape I'll be happy enough. Every game is a cup final from here on in. Get your suits measured.

Enjoy the match.

COYS.

You should get the baby writing on the blog, he/she is bound to spout more sense than some other bloggers/press/fans do! Have you found a name yet? How about Casper?

"who later explains in the post match interview that this was the plan all along, to hold back the Russian until the run-in and release him into the wild to do much destruction and damage"

Ah-ha, so that was the thought process behind the gob-smacked look on his boat when Pav scored the second goal against Wigan.

No chance of seeing Pav on the bench. If he flops tonight, he'll never play for us again.

Feb 24, 2010 at 2:44 PM | Unregistered Commenterfilthy

I've always wanted to see a perfect Barren Dent hat-trick: one off the left shin, one off the right shin and one off his arse.

Regarding the Bugaboo v MaxiCosi, if it's a new baby you can get the maxicosi baby carrier and just slot it into a number of push chairs. I went the Quinny route, but having seen some friends go travlling internationally with their multi functional and relatively light Bugaboo, I's say go for that if the cash is burning a hole in your wallet.

love this blog! sadly i think jj will start today and our midfield will once again fail to make an impact of any measure other than lots of turnovers and backpasses. hopefully our lanky russian will get the job done for us, i crave a final like a pregnant woman craves chocolate(no harm intended)!!! I think we'll see Gudjohnson and Pav starting up front tonight. If Gudjohnson has picked up his fitness, this could be a lethal combination.

I just hope we don't start Crouch. As much as I like the bloke, I hate the way we lob long balls up to him all the time. It's probably only one in five that reaches him and of those probably only one in ten get to defoe and one in a hundred result in a goal. Maybe he's best as an impact sub if plan A doesn't work, but if he's plan A, we're not the Tottenham I know and love.

JJ, Lennon, King, BAE all out of tonights game.

I used to stick up for JJ, but his recent performances have had me incandescent with rage. I dread seeing his name on the team sheet now.

If only we'd loaned Pompey JJ and kept O'Hara!

I'd be alot more confident during the run in with a bonafide hardcore yiddo to call upon instead of the insipid, lacklustre, weak piss football that Jenas has been putting out recently.

Feb 24, 2010 at 3:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterJamiespurs

I'd definitely like to see Gudjohnson and Pav given a chance to partner each other. But if it backfired, Harry would get roasted because he was "tinkering" or purposely ruined pav's chance by playing him with an unfit Gudjohnson. So I would be surprised if we don't see a Pav/Defoe partnership up front.

I have visited these murky waters many a time before. You just may have missed me.

Unless you're referring to me going 'off' of Jenas.............................

In which case, I'm onboard and ready to set sail. I can't wait for the summer window to open and some other mug manager/club think they're finally the ones who can get the Jenas enigma to spark into life.

Feb 24, 2010 at 3:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterJamiespurs

JJ is injured I think so we wont see him.

Hope to see some Pav tonight instead of Crouch up front although I dont mind who we play as long as we win.

ED maybe to come off bench, maybe give Crouch the night off.

Guest blog - I'm well game, having as I do a massively inflated sense of the importance of my own opinion. And my 38 wks pregnant gf is not a concern - it's called commitment Spookie. When is she due? Names?

I think for our Cup Final song, it should be an epic rock duet between Harry and Pav, along the lines of Meatloafs 'I would do anything for love (but I wont do that)'. Joking aside, tonight is Pavs big night. Huge. If he does the business, and sparks off Defoe, then this could be the start of something big. The fans will go wild and Harry will be poweless to resist. Also hope Benny Slick comes off the wing loads like he did v Wigan. That worked. I would also like to see Kaboul either in Midfield or at CB (ideally at CB instead of Dawson - I'm not saying Kaboul is any good, but if you're gonna sign him, may as well play him). And Huddlestone is not fat or slow, stop being such a cyber bully.

What about Eidur? Is he a bust already? What price him and Pav starting, and hitting it off?

Time for a stat attack.

JD, 29 starts, 2 subs, 22 goals, 0.71 goals per appearance
RP, 5 starts, 10 subs, 7 goals, 0.47 goals per appearance
PC, 22 starts, 11 subs, 10 goals, 0.3 goals per appearance

Being fair and counting a sub as a half appearance

RP 0.73 goals per game
JD 0.7 goals per game
PC 0.37 goals per game

Yes yes, players need to play together. Yes yes big un little un. Blah blah. Harry has to give Roman a chance. scoring form is good form and the man's flying. Must face Everton on the weekend. PC on the bench, Toffees can borrow him to raise a white flag in the 70th when we go 4-0 up in icy cold revenge for the Goodison Gagfest.

Only able to listen to the match on radio, but sounded like a classic lilywhite performance thanks to the infusion of some white Russian. Sincerely hope the momentum keeps going through Sunday.

There was a few sloppy passes last night that went astray, we were lucky bolton were too crap to take advantage. We would have got a hiding if that had been chelsea or united, with the form rooney and drogba are in. Modders was a bit ineffective whilst out on the left, when he moved into the centre he started to get involved and looked a threat. Eidur looked good I thought too, unlucky to be called offside for one of the decisions I thought. Bale was great going forward as usual, however he made a few silly mistakes in defence, which could have seriously cost us. And it was nice to see BAE back, he did well despite playing on the right. I felt we played well considering there is a bug running through the team.

Roll on Everton. COYS!

What a let down that Idle Rusky is , only two again. Clearly wasn't trying, bench him Harry.
Jenas is injured and though after Gordon Brownesque bullying by TMWNN I have cautiously revised my opinion of him, he will return.
Is there a society for recovering ex Jenas lovers?
' Wankers Re-united'' is not an acceptable answer.

Feb 25, 2010 at 10:32 AM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

The most surprising revelation was from Harry, post match. The thing he seemed to want to talk about, and not quite be able to comprehend, was that Pav speaks Russian, not English. Harry, he's from Russia. They speak Russian there. Not English. Russian. Clue is in the title. Anyway, it seems that Harry is slowly, and with only spasmodic bitterness, is accepting Pav. Still, it's fucking hilarious watching him get his squirm on. It's a measure of the man to see how difficult it is for him to accept Pav's upturn in form. love the way the camera zoomed in on him when Pav scored, and he did some odd yelp/clap combination. I sincerely hope that Harry has actually learned a lesson from this. I believe he has, because he's not daft. It doesn't matter that he can't speak english. Would you refuse to play Messi cos he couldn't engage in witless 'banter'?

The rest of the team were good. CMs did an admirable job, again outnumbered by an opposition 5 man midfield. I hope all those who moan and complain about Hudd not getting forward enough realise that if he did get forward, we would only be left with one person protecting the back 4, cos Lennon/Bentley and Modric aint gonna do it. Really, people should know better! Dropping Modric clearly worked, cos he played as if it mattered last night (and on Sunday). Benwaa looked the part. But yeah, Bolton made it really easy for us. Good warm up for the crunch game on Sat tho. I think the keys are the blond waifs. If Pav scores, and Dawson is error free, we'll win.

belgian, don't bring me into your sordid little evening!

Spooky - I would guest blog, but it would be shit so prob best I don't.

As for last night's performance, well we could only beat 'what we were up aganst'. I can see the fulham game going to a replay once again (after all we know how much we all love these replays), but before then we have to contend with an everton team that up until this evening was high on ambition and ability after the unceremonious depositing of ManU at the weekend. Whether or not that particular 'high' will last after a trip to lisbon tonight will tell.

Great game. No Long Ball crap insight. Good stuff from all the boys. Bolton were crap but then we didn't get outta 2nd gear for most of the match. Was like a friendly with the 3 subs getting a nice run-out. If we could get Gudjohnssen & Krancjar some o that DaveSpurs crack, then we'd be unbeatable. Great interplay but no pace.

Everton do scare me though. Arteta back, Jageilka comin back, a tenacious midfield and clinical forwards deserv
verdly beating UTD. We'll have to start the game going straight into top gear otherwise will be 2 down at half time. No Crouch (until 70 if 0-0), No Jenas & no bottlejob mentality. Everton will prey on any weakness so get in there n get it done, a bruising 1-0 will do me.

Was great to see us pass it about, great result. Still sloppy and naive at times though, thought BAE looked very uncomfortable (to be expected I guess) some great passing by Hudd, Bale has grown so much in confidence. Pav taking his chances well and Eidur looked very able(great finish too! DAMN) Not Lukas best game and Bentley? back to his frustrating worst for me. That said, after last years debacle, we sit 4th and march on in the cup. Unbelievable really.
Everton a far tougher prospect, big effort required COYS.

Feb 25, 2010 at 11:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

Everton play 5 in midfield. I can seriously see a case for putting pav up top on his own, Bale LW, Benwaa LB, and Modric in the middle to make a 3. Arteta, Pienaar and Osman could overrun us in the middle if we don't put numbers there. It will be a blessing in disguise if the twin oafs (Cahill and Fellani) are back from injury. Interesting that Everton's best performance of the season only came after Moyes was forced to drop those 2 cloggers and actually put some ball players in the midfield.
