The Stupendous Adventures of Bale and Bentley

Episode 6

At the Spurs Lodge...

Gareth: You okay David?
David: I'm busy, not now
Gareth: Busy? But all you're doing is...
David: I said I'm busy, can you not see I'm busy?
Gareth: I just wanted to say hi
David: Well you said it, can you leave me alone now please? I need to concentrate
Gareth: I was thinking, if you wanted to come round my gaff, you know, watch my dvd collection of my best Spurs performances and goals
David: I said I'm busy, I haven't got time to waste
Gareth: David...
David: What?
Gareth: Do you want to...talk about it?
David: Talk about what? I'm working my socks off here to try and claw back some credibility
Gareth: Credibility?
David: Yes, you know, the stuff you now have in abundance what with your good form and being linked with Madrid every other day
Gareth: Credibility?
David: Yes
Gareth: David...
David: What?
Gareth: How exactly is...this...going to help?
David: You're joking right? Sky Sports will be here any second now
Gareth: You don't think perhaps training harder and playing focused disciplined football on the pitch will help you more?
David: (looks beyond Gareth) They're here ! They're here ! Sky are here ! I'm saved ! This is the turning point ! I'm back baby, I'm back ! Stick your left-peg where the sun don't shine Welshie ! The Bentley is about to drive his way back to the top !

Later that day...

Jim White: This is Sky Sports News, stay tuned for exclusive footage of David Bentley naked star-jumping in a skip on top of a crashed Porsche playing keepy-uppy with his right foot on fire whilst drinking a can of Red Bull. Just another hard days training for the Spurs midfield star

Poor David :(

Bentley is a lost cause. Never seems bothered to take an opportunity given to him to try and reclaim self respect. Last season when he returned to the first team was a vastly over rated fluke. He wasn't half as good as people made out he was. Can't hack it at Spurs.

Poor David indeed... I do hope he gets his mojo back, Lennon could do with the competition...

I'd also like Harry to kidnap Hernandez from United and swap him with Gio Dos Santos in the dead of the night. He'd need some serious ninja training, probably want to lose a few pounds, and the twitching might give him away, but I reckon he could pull it off.

Apparently Arsenal have the same problems with Vela as we appear to have with Gio.

Two players wasting considerable talents I think.

Can't see him clawing a thing back. Over-rated. Over the odds transfer fee. Couldn't compete with Lennon and has not done anything to prove he can be a first teamer. The truth is he can't even play in any position other than right midfield. Levy hasn't sold him because he probably wants to avoid making a loss on him which is unavoidable.

Bale on the other hand. Monster.

Vela looks good against Championship opposition. The same with Gio. Both of them flatter to deceive and don't look to be cut out for England. Their spells in Spain prove this.

At the risk of everyone laughing at me, I'm still going to suggest that with a sustained run in the team (which he won't get), Bentley would get better and more confident.

I mean, come on, I remember Bale was linked with a £10m move to Mourinho's Inter about 18months ago, and plenty of Spurs fans were ready to bite his arm off. Similar situation with players who don't have confidence, as a result of lack of game time.

LOL! long live dml.com...

I believe that if Bentley was to lose that mop of hair that takes too much of his time, he might forget about being David Beckham and concentrate on playing some football. Tottenham Hotspur is a bit too glamorous for the likes of Bentley and he has simply been unable to cope. He needs a Blackburn....unfortunately. Unfortunately because we all realise what a talented footballer he is and how much we've lost - not only in the 16m transfer fee but also in what he was supposed to help us attain during his stint with us.

Lesson: Never acquire anything that has ever been owned by the goons. Its cursed.

Bale on the other hand was always full of potential, even during his stints on the bench. Remember his flying start before the injury? He was poorly managed and we almost lost our most valuable asset.

Lesson: Lets stop with the favouritism man! Gio, Caulker, Bostock, Kranjcar, etc should not be wasted while we retain the services of harry's poor favs. I'm talking Keane and Crouch here.

David Bentley crashed his porsche drunk days before the season started last year. He does not care about our club the fee paid for him or his responsibility to our sacred shirt. Even after getting the second chance he should never have been afforded he still mocks the supporters teammates and the manager with step over after step over, flicks and tricks and no intent on getting stuck in and proving himself.

If it were down to me he would be playing championship football until he earns himself a move at whatever price and he would never wear the white shirt of Spurs again.

Get rid and get a hair!

How about this for insight. (Comment from episode 1)

" Bale will be quality for us. Injury and low confidence hasn't done him a world of good but he has talent, he's young and if he comes into a winning side and gets a win under his belt, he won't look back. I see him as an answer to the left-side issue."

I see the Football Manager experts are out in force. It is not possible to pass judgments on players, like Gio, who had never been given a run of Premiership games

And how abou this for lack of insight (comment from episode 1)

"Definately time to let both go - we need winners on the team!".

Good point anon, but a club like Spurs, especially with our recent poor form, can't afford to give unknown quantities a run in the team when there are more experienced players who could play week in week out. One game starting an inexperienced striker who doesn't manage to score, could mean losing out on three points which we really do need to keep up with the likes of City.

For a player to break through, they need to work hard and create their own luck. Gio just strikes me as a player who has the mentality that he's come from Barca, and can walk into any EPL team without trying...

Don't see what Bentley can do to save his Spurs career.

As for dos Santos he wont get an extended run of games so the only real chance he has to shine is if he can the role of sub, final 20 minutes, and go all Rohan Ricketts on us.

always lilywhite had this nonesense to share with us. "One game starting an inexperienced striker who doesn't manage to score, could mean losing out on three points which we really do need to keep up with the likes of City".

Given the success rate of regulars like Crouch I suppose? How many goals does he have in the Prem in his 6 starts?

Give talent a chance.

I love the adventures , spooky you are one strange apple but very funny and a hell of a blogger. Rereading the other episodes made me chuckle and reading the commentaries made me wonder what the hell happened to Tricky , regular poster and guest blogger ...

Tricky and co have been on extended summer holidays. Will all be back blogging soon(ish).

Dos Santos will never make it in the premier league with Spurs (A) hes too light weight (B) his life style and attitude are far from whats expected (C) most importantly his contracts up at the end of the season so if he is not sold in january he'll be off on a free in the summer.

As for Bentley didn't he do a job last season when Lennon was injured.

Oct 1, 2010 at 3:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterRob j

I'm here Belgian. Been busy, still am a lot of the time.

But Spooks has continued to maintain his quality, despite an abject summer.

Kind feel my work is done now that eveyone can see the value of the Hudd ;-)

A new project perhaps?

Hmmm....

seem to remember people saying bale having some sort of jinx ........now he,s motoring

and Bentley scored an absolute fantastic volley at the emirates ...??

it pisses me off seeing comments regarding bentley....

the best he can do is shut everyone up with a few goals and assists

the team must pull together everyweek regardless........

or do spurs fans want to moan a player into bad form??

form or no form ..........its our squad .....

all the players should have our support.......

for what will be a difficult season

"Hotspur is a bit too glamorous for the likes of Bentley and he has simply been unable to cope. He needs a Blackburn....unfortunately"

What's unfortunate is that you don't know WTF you're talking about. Yes, it's the "glamour" of Spurs...nothing at all to do with not getting a run in the team...ridiculous. Lets not forget, without a couple miracle strikes..Danny Rose et al, last campaign, we'd be sharing midtable with the likes of Blackburn. Don't let all that "glamour" go to your head.

Oct 1, 2010 at 5:15 PM | Unregistered CommenterWillieWonka

bentley done a very useful job for us last season, while lennon was out. It will be so hard for him, because a half fit lennon will be 1st choice + VDV has been playing out wide also. If he can get a few solid minutes under his belt he may be useful, should we need him. Having said that, I personally
Wanted to kill him against the Scum the other week.

Looking forward to a solid 442 lineup and performance tomorrow.

Any news on when Mr Dawson is back?

COYS.

Bentley is a class player. Gio needs to go the the Dutch league - I bet he can score 20 goals a season there like Kezman. He's not ready for the Premier. What did he do at Ipswich?

Oct 1, 2010 at 8:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterNochman

I still have hope for Bentley. That Goal gives him more credit from me than I should give and he stepped up last season when Lennon was out. I know he can do well enough because I've seen it. I have seen no such thing from GDS, however (at the club level, at any rate).
