“four-keane-hell for Burnley” - quote of the week

Has this been discussed much on other forums?

Gary Linker is at the centre of a storm for the most ridiculous of reasons after Saturday’s Match of the day show. He ended highlights of Spurs beating Burnley 5-0 by saying “four-keane-hell for Burnley”. The Beeb edited the comment from Sunday’s re-run and fans were quick to complain with one online commenter saying “Poor stuff, he’s a real prat these days. Shall we all complain to the Beeb?”

A BBC spokeswoman said: “As it was transmitted close to midnight it was decided there was little risk of offending.”

Lineker is also in hot water with Liverpudlians because as Fernando Torres walked away with the match ball after his hatrick against Hull, Lineker said “I hope he keeps it somewhere safe”. This was seen as a reference to burglaries on Merseyside and particularly those involving Liverpool players on match days.

Ridiculous.

Caught both his remarks, and I do admit laughing out loud at his oh so subtle but obvious Torres one. The Keane effort was out-standing and had me hitting the rewind on Sky+ to make sure I heard it right. Anyone who complained should be re-directed to my girth, to which they can choke on.

I'd like to lodge a formal complaint about how dismissive Hansen was of Tottenham's display, almost jealous that Spurs had won 5-0, taking a little bit off the shine off Liverpool's 6-1 - with Keane notching 4 compared to the 3 from Torres. How dare we grab a share of the headlines.

I'm not alone in noticing his smirk arrogant grin aimed at Lineker who was happy with Spurs mauling Burnley. It was almost like Hansen was telling him to get back in his box, because it was only Burnley. You know, Burnley, who according to Hansen defended worst much worst....hundreds of times worst than Hull did.

Is it too difficult to just say both Hull and Burnley were both as bad as each other with their lack of defensive organisation? And that Spurs and Liverpool were efficient, confident and clinical?

When we win, its because the other team are shite. Not enough about how professional we were. We lose, and its a massive massive victory for the opposition who tore us to shreds.

The conspiracy and on-going anti-Spurs agenda continues. We lose - we're shit. The teams that beat us - are worthy champions. Figure that one out.

Ah, I'm only jesting. Seriously though, the people who phoned the BBC to complain. You dizzy motherf*ckers. As for Gary, don't let them gag you mate. Your love of Spurs in this Sky Sports dominated world warms me in the coldest of winter nights.

Lineker is always fighting the fight with the two miserable scousers.

Don't care about Hansen. 5-0. Life is good. "Four-Keane-Hell" ? Haha - wish I'd seen it. I guess Lineker didn't write it. Genius!

Sep 29, 2009 at 9:32 PM | Unregistered CommenterStratty

I have to say the quip about Torres and the match ball and keeping it safe was equally brilliant.

Sep 29, 2009 at 9:33 PM | Unregistered CommenterOllie

Didn't Hansen predict a draw at White Hart Lane before the game? :)

Obviously hates us but ...

What the hell do we care?
For we only know that there's gonna be a show
And the Tottenham Hotspur will be there!

Does anyone still bother with MOD. Lineker is okey but Hansan and Lawrenson are the must boring mono-toned idiots on TV. When they change things around they bring in bloody Shearer who is even worse. If anyone does still watch it then they must Sky+ it and fast forward to the match action.

We are in the Top 4! Four-Keane-Hell!!! Top 4!!

Sep 30, 2009 at 2:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterChew SK

MAN UTD, CHELSEA, LIVERPOOL, ARSENAL, MAN CITY, SPURS, VILLA, EVERTON. HOPEFULLY NOT IN THAT ORDER! Liverpool losing at SPURS is the obvious cause of concern amongst the likes of Hansen and Lawrensen. THE emergence of a TOP 8, lead by a TOP 2 - vindicated by results at: 1. Spurs v Liverpool. 2. Liverpool v Aston Villa & 3. Man City v Arsenal. EVEN after Everton's weak start, we now already see them in 9th position, just behind Sunderland.

Sureley someone has to put that into a chant at the next game at WHL. Just as a little tribute to Keano and Gary.

And a bit of a sorry to pointyshouty for all the agro we've been giving him!

ahh!......the Beeb! the institution we all grow up with etc

they seem to employ pratts mostly.......but lineker is not one of them......

match of the day comments by hansen and lauro are as predictable......

as passing wind from eating a curry!.........

northern bias in their analysis? .......of course!

they simply do not want to accept a change of fortune by teams such as spurs etc

i think these institutionalised cardigan types should be put in a cannon and fired over the hill asap

slippers? i dont wear watching the games on sat nit sun moring but sometimes my dog wonders!!
as i sigh to the same old shite spouted etc.......

where's the analysis of skill and passes which really counts and the indepth team selections etc as you see in
american football etc........using some technology as they do still needs to sound informative and exciting

the theme still sounds good but the cosiness is becoming a bit stale........

as harry would say.........your aving a larf lauro!

Respect to Mattyboy, not the most gracious of apologies to Keane, but the only one I've seen on the net so far. None of us is infallible, yet few have the gumption to admit it when they got it wrong, it costs nothing and in my book deserves recognition.

Great post!. When are these scouser no marks going to give us some genuine credit.?..actually on second thoughts we don't want their adulation, it means NOTHING to me what they think or say about us, they are swimming against the blue and white tide (under Harry) that will soon have them coughing and spluttering!

Even with media and referee bias we're coming back......where we belong, I say finish 2nd or 3rd! As for Gary ..what a total star, he was amazing for us. Here's a man that's travelled the football world and in his day could have had his pick of sides (and played for a few)..but guess who he LOVES??....US!...rest my case!

Lawrenson doesn't know his arse from his fucking elbow. I had the unfortunate pleasure of listening to him drone on and on last night in his role co-commentating on the Liverpool game for Irish TV. He hasn't a fucking clue, and he offered nothing except to whinge about Fiorentina's "theatrics" and "diving", yet he commented on how Torres was clever, "drawing the free". Same fucking difference you twat. Torres is a Cunt, and a diving one at that. Good footballer, but still, a Cunt nonetheless.

Rafa deserves his tactics to blow up in his fat face, and I smiled at last night's woeful ensemble he had adorn the field of play, as they showed fuck all will, or fight, and more importantly, they showed no guile. To be honest, I got bored after half time, went for a shit, then watched the last 10 mins, and felt good the result remained the same.

I had forgotten how much I used to like the Uefa cup games, they really used to break up the week nicely every now and then. Can't wait for the weekend to start and the pre-match anticipation, but suspect we'll get 'rolled' by the northern cloggers, maybe with some judicial assistance from Mr Man in Black. shame, and I hope I'm wrong, but it's about time the MOTD crew were able to use the expression 'reality check' (Linekar asides).

I am tired of all the economic negative news. I think the reason the economy sounds bad has less to do with an actual recession than media sensationalism and doomsday pessimism. Everyone was in a panic in 2008 because the price of oil was rising, but the sky did not fall. I don’t think the media should lie about a high unemployment rate, but I would like to hear more positive news stories.

I did some research and found that there is plenty of good news out there:

The recession officially ended in June 2009:

The stock market has risen 53% recently and is still cheap:

Wells Fargo, Apple, Ford, SkyWest, Adidas, Men’s Wearhouse, Kroger’s, General Mills, AutoZone, CarMax, Walgreen, Dell, Disney, and Discover are some of the many
respected companies to have declared profits recently:

North Dakota has an unemployment rate of 3.7%. South Dakota and Nebraska have unemployment rates of less than 5%. Singapore has an unemployment rate
of just 2.2%. Unemployed people who move to these places can find work
in agriculture, oil fields, schools, and hospitals. These newcomers will need to buy homes, food, and services creating more jobs.
If you don’t have a job, move to an area with a better economy. If you can’t sell your house at the price you want, you shouldn’t have paid so much for it. If
you don't want to move and make trade-offs, I guess that you aren't that desperate for work.

If you really want to stay where you are and haven’t found a job, think of a way to make money from your hobbies. Find a need and fill it.
Do you like to cook? Are you good at fixing things? Do you like to paint? Optimists make more money and I
strongly believe that if you do what you love, the money will follow. Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
Just because someone says there is a recession, doesn’t make it true. Just because most people used to believe the world was flat, did that make it true? If you are feeling negative, I highly recommend the book “You Can Have it All”:

http://www.librarything.com/work/508754

http://www.entrepreneur.com/management/managementcolumnistscotthalford/article207648.html

You might also feel less sorry for yourself or the economy if put your life in perspective. Would you rather live in Zimbabwe where the GDP per capita income is $200 per YEAR?

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2004rank.html

Even if things are really bad for you and you become homeless, there is a safety net of food banks, shelters, general relief, and food stamps. You could join a commune or a monastary.

America needs a good pep talk instead of negativity. I really think Obama would be more helpful to the economy by talking about the positive sides instead of pushing expensive stimulus programs. People should live within their means to avoid crashing the economy, but even when overextended, the United States has managed to pay the massive debts of the Depression and WWII.

http://zfacts.com/p/318.html

Americans need to think more like immigrants. Politicians are too afraid to say it, but Americans should stop whining, get up, take responsibility, lower their standards, bite their lips, tough it out, and get busy. Americans should stop buying SUV’s and McMansions they can’t afford and pay off their debts. I have no sympathy for the sheep who went in debt to buy expensive restaurant meals, clothes, vacations, cars, and overpriced homes when times were good instead of saving for a rainy day. Buy LOW and sell HIGH. If people had put their money in the bank instead of wasting it they would still have it. The United States is capitalist not Communist. There is social Darwinism and survival of the fittest here. If Americans want a handout, they should move to Sweden. I have seen refugees from places like Vietnam immigrate to the US with NOTHING and own houses and cars five years later, while some lazy Americans who haved lived in public housing and on welfare for GENERATIONS complain about how poor they are. Why can a third world immigrant who doesn’t speak English make more money in five years than some Americans who have lived in the US their entire life?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2010/09/27/financial/f063017D17.DTL&ao=all

The negative thinking about “tough times” and the supposedly “decline of the US” kills me. The USA is by far the richest and most powerful country in the world. Who invented the assembly line, telephones, movies, light bulbs, airplanes, air conditioning, elevators, skyscapers, television, the atomic bomb, the pill, calculators, microwaves, lasers, the Internet, mobile phones, the space shuttle, and landed on the moon? What country wins the most medals at the Olympics despite having only 5% of the world’s population? If the United States is dying, why do so many people want to immigrate there?

http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/List-of-United-States-inventions

http://englishrussia.com/index.php/2010/02/14/russian-or-not-russian/

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/summer08/medals

I think the best years of the United States are ahead of us, not behind us. I would be shocked if the USA won’t be the first country to put a person on Mars, invent mass-produced hydrogen and solar cars, and cure cancer. Americans who worry about the future are ignoring the facts and aren’t doing anyone any favors.

While I am not blind to the difficulties that may exist in the present economy, I just think people should be more optimistic and look at the good sides. I
remember when I was in middle school in the mid 1980’s and had a teacher who asked my classmates whether the USA was on the way to the peak of power,
at the peak, or on the way down. I was the only student who said the US hasn’t reached the peak yet. A few years later the Soviet Union collapsed, the Japanese economy crashed, and America was the only superpower.

I am not sure if there is a recession, but if there is one, I think it will be over soon.
