Bent is soz for his tweets

Everybody has covered the Darren Bent statement that’s been published on the official Spurs website confirming it was his account...and his mistake. Now if you’ve been following Darren’s Tweets, the first thing that will be obvious is that it’s highly unlikely he wrote the apology all by himself, if at all. We all know it’s always a representative of the club or the agent that does the written work. Obviously, because it’s all a PR exercise in making sure the club come out of it as the victim and the player the naive impatient fool. Which is exactly what’s happened. And it was always going to happen. You can’t slate the chairman in the papers, so slating him online via a social networking tool is equally a no-no. Still, I can’t help but smile at the apology.

This is it:

I appreciate that transfers are seldom straightforward and are often complex. However, after a long period of waiting following my withdrawal from the plane to China, I had become incredibly frustrated by the time these things take and I posted inappropriate comments on my Twitter site.

I allowed my emotions to get in the way of my better judgement. I regret my actions and did not intend to offend Daniel Levy or anyone with the nature or the content of my posting.

If Darren’s Twitter account was still active he could have micro-blogged his regret using a string of 140 maximum character sentences. But then if it was completely up to him he wouldn’t be issuing an apology full stop.

Let’s put it into perspective. He’s (for the sake of argument) on 50K per week. I wouldn’t mind the waiting around a little bit longer knowing that my employer over-spent to sign me and don’t want to (as best as possible) be short-changed when selling me inorder to make up for the mistake in the first place. Telling the world that you're upset by posting in the public domain that is the internet is a no-go. Unless you wanted people outside of your private Twitter account (which anyone could access because you accepted anyone who requested access). Or you simply didn't think. Which is a common trait, let's be honest, with most professional footballers.

Hang tough. You're leaving. It’s a given. It’s Spurs, you should know it’s never quick and easy.

It's a massive massive shame that Daniel Levy doesn’t have his own Twitter account, as I’m certain this would have been handled and sorted without all the unnecessary press coverage.

Classic isn't it? I'm annoyed at DB for making a bit of a laughing stock of us though. For a while we've managed to stay out of the papers for negative reasons and he's just plastered us all over them again, the twit.

Still, when he goes at least he will be quickly forgotten and can waste his time not fitting into some other team's style of play.

Spooky - don't deny, Levy having a twitter account would cause you endless wet dreams!

If I was Levy I would tell big mouth Bruce we now want 20 mill the figure they quoted us for Jones. We have every right to play hardball and poor little Darren knows it. The downside of all this crap is the DB will almost certainly score when he visits WHL Its Sods Law and written in the stars

"Am I sorry? Definitely" Should I have shown patience? Definitely. Should I not have slated the Chairman? Definitely. Do I like money? Definitely. Will I keep my trap shut until I'm a Mackem? Definitely."

look DB is a useless overpriced twit, but the fact is everytime we are made a laughing stock in the media, it is usually Daniel levy's fault. I really cant remember any chairman doing what levy did last year and survive at all.

I just wish levy contracts swine flu, and in feverish episode sells the club to someone who cares about spurs, then wakes up realises what he has done and consoles himself by counting his money, its what he cares about and of course his PR image, which of course is just outstanding...not.

one day there will be no levy at spurs, one day.

And on that day, Spooky will have to get himself a new domain name for the blog.

Leave Levy Alone! Seriously though we need the cash to spend elsewhere so lets hope Bent gets his wish quickly. Is Twitter-Twat a correct expression?

god remember when we were going to get huntelaar, robben and hienze, i of course knew it wasnt going to happen but this was confirmed when I saw the photo of levy and his cronies on the street in madrid, I have never seen such a collection of muppets getting ready to fuck up a deal, that pic still makes me laugh.

I think the term is 'twit-twat' (?!)

I've got no real problems with Bent, he was always going to be a square peg in a round hole at Spurs. However its of the utmost importance that we part ways asap, because aside from the obvious need to sign players (DEFENDERS!) with the Bent money (no pun intended), we are once again looking like a bit of a joke.

Still if we get even 14m for Bent I will be laughing.

I've just read that in fact he is being fined £120,000 for the whole incident. Thats £533 per character.

whats the cliche..? dont wash your linen in public.........the context is simple he has stepped out of line,he knows it afterwards of course etc.........fine ?120 grand! ...ouch!.......what gets me is the apparent lack of dialogue and communication at the top between all parties.....all levy and bent had to do was keep tabs with those involved agent links etc on negotiations........(Bt advert) .its good to.......
etc.....??........

Bents Twiitt?er..frustration is one thing but Levy in recession is not going to let 2 Mill of THFC money slip through his fingers if he can help it.....which is his job!......although levy was criticised for Berba .....he tried to keep him at thfc and in the end got 30 Mill for the club!......

if any of us would get one weeks wages of 50 grand ......we would wait for as long as it takes!

You have problems "Ossies Dream" Sound like a Hammers fan to me

Jul 31, 2009 at 11:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterLightning Smith

lightning,

why problems? and no Im spurs through and through, just because i criticise the chairman doesn't make me a hammers fan.

levy and his muppets messed up the real deal and the pic still makes me laugh, Levy is an incompetent chairman and is responsible for the media joke we have become.

Jul 31, 2009 at 11:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterOssiesDream

ossiesdream ....levy is doing what he can ......, he reversed the ramos appointment.(hands up etc)..getting redknapp and us almost back into europe.....last year......imcompetant he is not..difficult decision.s have to be made..and in reality he should get our support especially as we aim to push on next year ......the club has invested a lot of money over recent years........the media joke you mention ........ is because the media...... IS a joke.....
hence the stupidity of anti spurs internet comment and bull which is frequent and designed to undermine the club daily mail online being pathetic for one ......nothing new there in fact there are more intelligent comments on DML

bent has helped the tosser,s of the tabloids with his twit like rant........still a sense of humour says.....

oi no to hull..oi no to stoke......fruuuuuustrated!!!!!!!

Reckon Dazza wasn't so much pissed off as just plain pissed. Booze plus internet access can often end up in embarrassment and a hefty iTunes bill, although perhaps not two weeks wages worth.

I had to apologize on my blog Bent's grammatical mistakes LOL. The guy definitely failed English class. Do you think he has put our negotiations in jeopardy with his stupidity?
