Negredo? Let's hope so

I'm still here. Just. Not leaving for another hour and a bit. Thought I'd share this from the resident Real Madrid fan over at Rumourwhores.com who obviously knows his La Liga inside out. This is an assessment of Negredo, who is being heavily linked as a soon-to-be Tottenham signing:

He is damn good. Product of the Real Madrid youth system. Should be good in the Premier League, IMO. Big, powerful guy who can bully defenders, win every header and a decent finisher in front of goal. Scored 13 goals in 07/08, 19 goals last season, that too while playing in a newly promoted team. If he adapts quickly, he will be dynamite.

Big mistake to sell him, IMO. Real Madrid needs a striker like him who offers something different up front. I hope it doesn't happen.

Fingers crossed it does then.

i was scouring some Real boards last night myself and fans seemed pretty upset about the prospect of him leaving...apparently Real wants a buyback clause? never heard of those in US professional sports...it'd be crap to agree to that...we need to build a core, not basically get a guy on loan...

WSB, the last thing I want to think about is the fucking Internet and blogging.

Sun. Sea. Sex. Rum. Bars. Clubs. Parties.

Offline life is under-rated.

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:14 PM | Unregistered Commenterspurfanindia

So, six signings over the next week eh?

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:25 PM | Unregistered Commenterhoopspur

My mate is a Spaniard and follows it all and said to me that he thinks although KJH is a better player now that Negredo will adapt quicker and would be a great addition and with time could be as good as the scousers own Spanish striker and that's probably why they want a buy back clause.

Off anywhere nice Spooky????

Forget hunteler or negredo.....the player we need is podolski...atm left on the bench at bayer munich to his teamates toni and klose!!!bags of pace, big and would work wonders at tottenham...reminds me of Jurgen Klinsmann...Get PODOLSKI HARRY, WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterQSpurs

us futbol:

A buyback clause??? Are they serious?? That would be just as bad as the Frazier Campbell loan scenario!!! Anyways, I haven't seen Negredo play; I don't know if I believe scout sites anymore; BUT I honestly have a lot of faith in our new management set up.

SPURS!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:26 PM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi

Have spoken to quite a few people about this guy now and all feadback is excellent, am beginning to think he could well be the better option for Tottenham than Huntelaar, here's hoping.

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpursdownunder

omg if we get podolski i will sing this song for days on end...

forgot about that...Toppsy7 is right...goldi poldi is back on koln.

Jul 17, 2009 at 2:39 PM | Unregistered Commenterus futbol

This buy-back clause just rubs me the wrong way. If Negredo starts to come good, they'll just swoop in and take him back. I can't understand why we wouldn't just buy him outright. I'm assuming the buy-back clause includes a cut-rate price option for RM to buy him back. On the surface it just looks like a year long loan.

All we can hope is that with all the money RM has and their new spending policy, they don't buy him back and keep buying established stars instead.

Jul 17, 2009 at 3:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterJosh

I'm hearing this is going to happen. Expect him to have a blistering season for us, then get snapped up by Man Utd.

Jul 17, 2009 at 3:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterOracle

Buy-back clauses only kick-in if the club WANTS to sell him. In this case Madrid would have first refusal. At least I think that;s how its meant to work.

Just read on Nottingham Forest's official site that the Gunter deal is finalized: 1.75 million... I guess he isn't being loaned out then?

SPURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jul 17, 2009 at 3:16 PM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi

If I'm wrong then the buy back clause will be for more money than we have paid out. I think Man Utd did the same with Rossi with regards to a get out clause.

Jul 17, 2009 at 3:16 PM | Unregistered Commenteroops

I thought we rated Gunter? So much for that.

Must mean the two Sheff Utd players are on their way to us.

Jul 17, 2009 at 3:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterWest Stand Bagel

Looks like the Sheffield United deal will go ahead as Nottingham Forrest have announced the signing of Chris Gunter for 1.9 million, personals agreed and just a medical to go. Chimbonda next and we can then add the Kyle's to the collection of right backs, Pity as I thought Gunter played well whenever called upon

Oops is right , otherwise it would make no sense at all ... normally the club that has the bb clause can buy the player a "fixed price "( dependant on appearances , goals ...) at least that's how we work but then again i have never delt with the likes of Real so i would'nt know what they dare to put in their clauses

But it will never be a clause where they can decide whenever they want to , imagine a player having a splendid first half of the season and then swoops in his old club in January and just takes him back.

And then still the player himself also has somethinh to say in the matter , we live in a free europe where employees have the right to choose their employer

went to Spurs v Exeter...1st and 2nd half spurs sides good......gunter played well right back so I suppose he needs to move on and get a regular slot at nottingham......the whole thing looked good together as a unit and team

I'm not entirely sure the inventor of the internet had this in mind. When's Spooky back from holiday? This could prove to be a very long week indeed.

Redknapp has also dismissed speculation linking the North Londoners with a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo: "I know nothing about that either."

The same Redknapp who knew nothing about re-signing Robbie Keane yet the next day was sitting alongside him in a press conference annoucing him as Spurs' new forward.
