The truth is never out there (David Bentley)
Thought I'd share this because it serves a purpose in never quite believing what you read, even when they print quotes from the player in question. In this case, David Bentley. The interview in question is the one The Sun published yesterday where David allegedly told the journalist that he was in talks with Aston Villa.
Complete fabrication. At least according to a good friend of DB who has no reason to fib. Unlike the tabloids who do nothing but.
I accept we'll be seeing one of those two sentence apologies hidden away in the corner of the page soon.
Still, would be ironic if Villa do end up bidding for him and he does go.
Truth will out in time.

Usually when they don't have quotes they cite insiders or friends. Strange they would quote him. I lurk on GG where Bentleys mate posts from time to time and he's a straight up bloke. Can I be cynical and suggest maybe Bentley did say something to the journo and its been exaggerated? Massive risk for a national paper to make up quotes and associate them to a player.
Doesn't surprise me in the slightest but I still think Bentley will go.
It's The Sun. Anyone who trusts what that rag prints needs their head checking.
I hope he stays.
Yes. I've changed my mind again.
I wish the story was true.
Is Mams suggesting that the interview did not take place at all or part of it did and David has been mis-quoted?
David Bentley has blurted out more than once that he is in talks with Villa. Usually when he's drunk I must add.
Spooky, do you believe this then? Can't tell if you are being cryptic or not.
We need an apology from David for his weak weak performances this season.
the media are drunk on speculation........anything goes!
say anything .......great sport journalism??
I believe Mams when he says that the interview did not take place. Not to say that journalists have not pretended to be 'fans' and get quotes off unsuspecting victims for 'exclusive' articles. I also believe he will still leave and reckon (like most) that Villa is his most likely destination.
My point is...you can't believe anyone, but a person posting info online is far more reliable than something you read on the pages of a rag.
...Most of the time at least. Don't want to appear to be supporting those ITK deep throats.
'Bents' may have been led to believe by his agent that this was advanced. As usual the mouth opens before said agent would prefer it to, and it gets printed?
Why believe this bloke (mams), he's just someone who is passing info that might be a lie to help cover up any embarrassment Bentley has caused himself for opening his mouth?
John Whites Ghost - Because the bloke has proved several times he is genuine.
Bentley said those things, probably pissed, to a fan who turned out to be a journo. Just as likely as The Sun printing bullshit. Footballers are idiots.
there is probably a handful of in the know of info regarding players in the hat at the club etc
but with so much money at stake a loose tongue could ruin negotiations,
as you say some areas of media seem bias as to what they would like to see happen
a gooner editor for example........so online blog comment could be nearer the mark.....
(still would like to know how the FA sorted the fixture list......)
Blatantly joining Villa.
He spoke to the press, whether directly or by assuming he was speaking to a fan and is now trying to cover it up. Someone at Spurs has obviously told him to keep his stupid mouth shut.
There is no way of knowing for sure.
- He may not have said a thing (if that's the case then I doubt even the Sun is stupid enough to print something with out using the famed 'club insider' source)
- He may have said it off the record and it got printed anyway
Fact is where there is smoke there is fire.

Sounds like you think Bentley DID say those things.
I would like to believe he did not say those things because it would serve as a sharp reminder that tabloids never say anything that can be trusted. But - as pointed out already - legally, they usually give credit to an informer or 'friend' to avoid any repercussions. If no apology is forthcoming, then I expect the conversation - in some form - happened. Which means The Sun will remind everyone how they broke the story.
Would also mean that Mams lied - but, as he was looking after his friend, you can understand why. Well, sort of. He could have just posted nothing and waited for Bentley to publicly say something, a denial without pressing for an apology from The Sun (because one isn't warranted).
Anyways, if this is about someone having a word in his ear about talking to the press before the clubs agree a transfer, posting about it word of mouth style in a Spurs forum and then having blogs and sites repeat it isn't the best way to get the message across to the millions of Sun readers who are very unlikely to read this or GG.co.uk.
Your article suggest you believe him over the red top.
Echo - I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not naive.
I was "reading" The Sun a few summers ago, and was treated with a story regarding Derby's imminent signing of David Villa. Needless to say, they meant Emanuel Villa. I didn't quite know how to react to this piece of incisive reporting. I think I put the paper down. On wam coals. Essentially, then, I would read so little into the so-called quotes made by David "feels like Superman" Bentley...
not been keen on the players as speculated in arriving at spurs........maybe nistleroy was ok as his head is experience.....
stiil believe their are players who are at a certain stage of change like palacios was who need to be considered ,by our scouts around the world,
for a few million rather than 15.....the market place is global.....
If anyones interested Mams has posted again in response to someone who claimed that Bentley has spoken to the press:
I cant believe this, all you other people reading this, i hope your with me on this one.
I have been with dave for the past 12days in marbella, he has not given any interviews to the sun or any other english newspaper, i've been with him everyday ffs.
All the legal stuff is in motion.
I'm not commenting on this thread again.
And Spooky, reckon you might be in right in giving him the benefit of the doubt.
I reckon he was saying he couldn't wait to leave White Hart Lane and go to the villa, not Aston Villa but his villa in Spain
looks like the media is blatantly talking she ite
Hope he stays.
bentley......."im goin to villa......a villa in peurto Banus!"
