Klaas Jan Huntelaar 'linked' to Spurs

Here we go again. Well, it was bound to happen.

Apparently Levy is flying out to Madrid to negotiate the transfer of the Dutch striker, who Real spent £20M for last season.

Linkage to the story here.

Obviously I'm not dancing a jig of joy for two reasons. This may well be just some continental tabloid guess-work much like the work of the English red tops we laugh at every morning. With Madrid building a new version of the Galacticos there will be plenty of goings to help balance in the comings (ooh). Also, just how good is Klaas? He has hardly been given a chance and has only scored 8 goals in 20 apperances. With Villa on his way from Valencia, he may pushed further out of the running for a starting spot. Is he cut out for the EPL?

Interestingly, this has broken out in the press first rather than the seedy underbelly of a private membership Spurs message board, so lets see how long it takes for our pesky club insiders to update us with the latest on this particular piece of whorage. So no word just yet from the ITK grapevine yet, although many of them still believe Ruud is on his way to the Lane although the suggestions in the tabloids are we are unwilling to fork out 70K + per week. Snag hit there.

Huntelaar will be cheaper wage wise, although the fee will no doubt be steep. He cost Madrid a cool £20M.

Believable factor? I'd say about 70% we are interested or poking around with questions about his availability.

But wasn't he a player targeted by the likes of Manchester United prior to his move to La Liga? Linked to Utd, signs for Madrid, ends up at Tottenham.

Hmm. Believable factor dropping down into the sixties.

I have a 'man' out in Spain who supports the White Storm so have asked him if he knows anything about this and if there are any whispers out in Madrid about the players availability. Will update this blog post after I've spoken to him with any relevant update.

Loving these slow-news days, right? Makes a change to reading yet another 'Cisse to Spurs' headline I guess.

Afternoon Spooks. Setanta are running with a story on this. No contact made according to his agent.

This has now got legs.

Fernando Gago is the name on the lips of the ITK community.

I think it could be a goer. Spurs were supposedly very close to signing KJH last summer only for a combination of that idiot Commoli pissing about and Ajax playing hardball on the fee to stop the transfer happening.

If Spurs officials have been talking to Real about RVN and that deal has been killed by his wage demands (i've heard £80k p/w is the sum he's after!) then it's totally plausable that a transfer for KJH has been discussed as an alternative. He doesn't fit into the 'Galactico' category and with Villa due to join Real in the near future he'll be shunted way down the pecking order. In short, a transfer is defintiely possible!

Go on Spurs make it happen

p.s. A cheeky bid for Guti would be lovely too

As lovely as Gago would be how would that work with Wilson? Gago and Wilson are both defensively minded CM's and unless we're going for a really solid centre I can't see it happening.

Wilson is BRILLIANT and Gago won't really fancy playing second fiddle to him and vice versa for Wilson, so I can't see it happen BUT I'd love to see Gago at the lane.

Gago would be a great signing. Him and Palacios in the centre would allow us to effectively play four forward minded players (Modric, Lennon, Huntelaar and Defoe) and have the full backs bombing on to.

Huntelaar would be an exceptional signing... only 8 in 20 games??? that sould not half bad to me given the amount of sub appearances in there.... also a much better strike rate than Cisse, Pineapple Head and Santa Cruz.

I have everything crossed that we can pull these two signings off

if kjh signs.....he will get us goals, goals and goals.... he is the best striker from holland at the moment. He lacks soms pace, bu apart from that, he is unbelievable in the box..and can play like a sort of target man because of his decent height , heading skills, power and awereness (sorry for my english..im from holland

Completely agree mate. Wilson and Gago would give us a real hard spine along with King and Woodgate at CB. I think he may well try to join a Champs League side though.

Who is Gago?
Enjoy the blog by the way Spooky, I dont really post on here, but often have a read and regularlly find myself having a little chuckle - which seems to keep getting me in trouble as I should probably be doing some work!

KJH is class and would be a welcome addition, i personally would give Keano the Spanish or the sub bench due to his pointing and sulking routine and have a partnership of KJH and JD the later will be soooo hungry next season to make sure he gets that ticket to SA.

the new rumor is JJ to Villa, that would be bloody great news!! I can but hope COYS

I'll belive it when i read it on the spurs site!its getting boring i just want something real to happen even though this is the best bit of gossip this summer!keep up the good work mate
COYS

Anyone stop to consider the pecking order at WHL?

Keane, Defoe, Pav, Huntelaar = 4 top class international strikers. Sorry to say that I don't think we are a big enough club to support that just yet.

For me, Huntelaar has got Man City written all over him.

Jun 12, 2009 at 1:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterFrazzle

We've got as much chance of signing Huntelaar as I have of getting a blow job off of my wife.

Jun 12, 2009 at 1:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterHenry Percy

Just to clariofy, I mean big enough in terms of the amount of games and/or medal opportunities we can offer vs. inevitable time on the bench.

At City he'd be the big fish.

Jun 12, 2009 at 1:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterFrazzle

Man City written all over him? Who did that?

Jun 12, 2009 at 1:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterHenry Percy

Boyhood fan don't you know - dreamt of playing for them all his life!

Jun 12, 2009 at 1:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterFrazzle

Man City written all over him?

Sure you're not getting him confused with the all-ink-no-skin Cisse?

Jun 12, 2009 at 2:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterNext Season

City will sign him. I think Levy will be Madrid but not for Klaas. Still think Ruud is the target.

West Stand

Not unless he drops his wage demands by some huge margin! £80k a week for a 33 yo with dodgy knees?? Undoubtedly he's a great player but he's one knock from retirement and I don't want us to fund it!

Jun 12, 2009 at 3:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterJamiespurs

That;s the reason why I think the Ruud deal wont happen. Cheap transfer fee, but too much of a risk for a short term deal for a player that doesn't have time on his side. As good as he is.

I'd have him for sure but would prefer we build up with young hungry players.

No Huddlestone jokes pleaseee.

What about the original Ronaldo back from Brazil, along with Ronaldinho? Both with something to prove, undoubted class and with Thud supplying ammunition!

We would defo have the hungriest team, and the amount of money we'd make in merchandise (from the Spurs lodge Canteen) would pay their wages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'd be like the 'Natural Disasters' from the WWF

Sorry Len - couldn't resist

Jun 12, 2009 at 5:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterGinge1

Why not structure a loan deal with Madrid over RVN? Agree to pay him 55k a week but pay a fee to Madrid for the loan. Works out the same but saves the pay structure. Can really get creative if Huntelaar is the target..
