Another massive massive game

Everton away. Considering how Villa and City got on yesterday and the fact that if we're serious about competing for a top 4 place - I can't see anything less than 3 points as being an acceptable result today. King of the understatements. Everton are depleted.

Heitinga (suspended).

Anichebe, Areta, Jagielka, Neville, Vaughan all injured.

Distin, Gosling, Yobo, Jo, Osman...all doubtful.

I'll be disappointed if we go there, under-perform and lose. I'll be disappointed if we go there and fail to capitalise on their plight. I'll be disappointed if we don't win convincingly. I'm not asking for the moon on a stick here. Show the same intent we had in the Villa (second half) game, and we'll be all smiles come the final whistle.

Big test of our mental strength this. Considering the lack of sustained effort against the Utd reserves in the cup. Take the game to them, boss possession and pick 'em off. There's no doubt Moyes will have his side giving it 100% so - if you abide by the Laws of Hope - you'd think we'd be able to tell our class show.

As for Harry, who's he gonna  pick? Huddlestone or Jenas? Keane or Crouch?

I'll start Huddlestone and let him quarter-back his way through the game, spraying balls to his hearts content. Niko has to be certainty. And personally, I'd stick Crouchie up front with JD and let the Everton defence worry about the tall man little man combo.

This season is going to be tight, and these are the types of tests we need to pass with flying colours.

COYS and all that jazz.

0-3 and nothing less...we need to get a superior goal difference and I feel we could push that up by a few today.

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterDear mr Spooky

0-3?? A clean sheet away from the lane, i would like, but i very much doubt.

More like 1-3 to the liliywhites.

COYS!!

jenas and keane r to crap for the second team let alone the 1st team, plz do not play them,,,, we will then win

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:32 PM | Unregistered Commenterluvmemememe

Today would be a good game for me to win because if you no me and my rants about energy cheats you should no i live not far from the bin dippers cousins Eveready no matter who plays in Widnes. Everton are a team that can lose all of there best players and win so don't look at who is playing for clues, Utd showed that skill alone wont always win the game and results here in the north west this week prove it Blackburns epic game in midweek had no affect on Blackburn game against Liverpool so two things dont help you to win any more when you play desperate teams in Dept. injury's and tiredness. So do i think we will win my heart says yes but my brain says no so if we win i don't. wont be mind being called brainless.

I love you Davspurs.

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterTonk

How we approach this game is key, show the right attitude and play our football and we should come out on top.
Yes a repeat of the Villa performance is required today. Press them all over the park from the off attack them down the wings and feed that ball to Defoe. Consistency is vital in our quest to reach the top four so lets show some today.....

Starting team same as it was for Villa surely?

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterRick

Have to be confident about this one. We'll have too much for them going forward.

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterLarding It

Hope Harry doesn't play JJ today, there is a reason Harry can't find a place for him in the team....
He's clearly not good enough.

Dec 6, 2009 at 12:56 PM | Unregistered CommenterRick

Back five picks itself/ midfield Lennon, Kranjcar plus any two from three/ front Defoe plus one
442 high tempo whoever plays and pressing all over the pitch from the off, early goal (please)
Sorted. Spurs to win 2-1
Results went against us for the first time lately to be honest. But the solution is in our own hands.
This is very winnable given their injury situation.
And don't forget that even if we lose, which we won't, but even if we do, we will still be top four for another week.

Dec 6, 2009 at 1:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

What Jimmy said. But if we win, and continue to win these games and get some space between us and the ones behind us then we'll get stronger, believe more and perhaps add pressure on the chasing pack.

Dec 6, 2009 at 1:23 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

I'm getting to the stage where I think "approach, formation, quality of performance...I don't give a sh*t, just give me 3 points". I'd be more than happy with a 0-1 win away, I mean all the focussed attack against V*lla was exciting to watch but we only converted one. Lets just win, please.

Gomes, Corluka, Bassong, Dawson, Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Kranjcar, Crouch, Defoe

GTFI.

We need to be confident today. Swagger and end product and complete and utter ruthlessness. Is 4-0 to Spurs too much to ask?

Dec 6, 2009 at 3:20 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

good god
we suck
everton were great today. played with a lot of heart.
but they were a WEAKENED EVERTON
we do not deserve to be in the top four anymore
a top four side would have won today
end of fucking story

Dec 6, 2009 at 6:13 PM | Unregistered Commenternycyid

What makes you think you are a real top 4 team? its a little premature to start making any such claims, I thought the season was over 38 games, lets see where you lot end up.

Dec 6, 2009 at 6:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnon

No one is saying we are, we are saying we can compete and nothing this season suggests otherwise.

Dec 6, 2009 at 6:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterWest Stand Bagel

I forgot the feeling of a draw hitting me like a loss. I hope they learn from this.

Good job, Everton.

Dec 6, 2009 at 7:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterGoonerJake

There's no point in looking at the last 10 minutes of the match. we lost the plot after the first goal and got punished for it by an adrenaline-soaked side. it's not the first time that kind of thing's happened; harry will make sure we don't fall asleep like that again. no one can claim that this is "same old spurs," this entire season has proven that we're not that soft team of yesteryears anymore. we stood up well in a physical game and stumbled in the last 10 minutes. fuck it, it happens. wolves next weekened. same team, same effort, please.

the midfield was effing brilliant ("top, top players"). I'm only wondering how we get Modric to fit in there when he gets back. it's going to either be huddlestone or kranjcar that steps aside, but both played really well. even impressed by Bale; Assou-Ekotto was an utter liability in the first half.

Jake the humourless pikey misses again.

Dec 6, 2009 at 9:18 PM | Unregistered CommenterWest Stand Bagel

Jake, what forum are you from? I'd like to keep tabs on your work in-between games when Arsenal get dicked. As you only seem to reappear on here when the dust settles.

Dec 6, 2009 at 9:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterJep

"even impressed by Bale"

I wonder if we were watching the same match! By my reckoning both goals were at least partially his fault. He was atrocious.

Dec 6, 2009 at 9:39 PM | Unregistered Commenternycyid

4-0 too much to ask for? Should have been 4-0 before we decided to switch off and defend like amateurs. Still, must be doing something right. Almost Christmas, still top four.

Dec 6, 2009 at 9:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterOops

nyc - I'd say Wilson was at fault for one of those goals. His clearance was poor.

Dec 6, 2009 at 9:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterOops

Could be worse lads. Could have been 2-0 down to West Ham and then pegged back.

Dec 6, 2009 at 10:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterMcCracken

I don't disagree Oops. I just think Bales was crap today for the most part and was partially to blame for both goals. Definitely the first one where he was made to look like an amateur.

Dec 7, 2009 at 4:01 PM | Unregistered CommenterGoonerJake

Dearmr Spooky,

He is a parasite, functioning merely on the most base and primitive margins of existence, taking its meaning for living only from the being of others.

Each sweating pore in its irrelevant corpuscular blubber cannot function unless somebody else first is, and when it enters an empty room, that room, fundamentally, remains devoid of live, except at its most primeval state and stage.

Like all parasites, it suffers from delusions of grandeur, so that even when it farts it interprets and embraces its own obnoxious wind as if it emanates from the holy grail.

In prepetual torment it roams the planet, doomed, alas, to spend the rest of its inept and miserable existence seeking and craving attention as compensation because it was taken off the bottle when far too young.

Its tragedy and even pathos, like in every parasite everywhere, lies in its core lack of understanding that the host plant or body, needs it not.

I know you are mate, but what am i?

ROFLMAO

Dec 8, 2009 at 2:45 AM | Unregistered CommenterGoonerJake

Dear mr Spooky,

And thus do you have it, from the mouth of one who knows not, his own words the excrement of crawling creatures everywhere.

'What am I?', he asks, searching for meaning for being, for he knows not his own identity, yes, 'What am I indeed?'

And so locked into his own ignorance, he therefore asks a question that he hopes is never answered yet is not rhetorical too.

Yet because he is so well known to those he'll dare not meet, so he will never be seen in the land of many mirrors and nor at White Hart Lane. And, God, the word 'Hart' rankles in the seething mass he calls his brain, heart be damned and white hot, it can't help but come to the mind.

So be proud of the verbal pus that emanates from your cells and go in peace, brother, because to you nature has been cruel.

PMSLMAO

Poems, moaning about the BEEEEG 4, illogical arguments, and now badly written faux-erudite arm chair psychology. There's really no limit to your talents is there Cliffytits!?

Well apart from remembering Jaap Sturm's name. LOLOLOL

Dec 9, 2009 at 3:59 AM | Unregistered Commentercliffyboy

LMFAO. How could I ever be lonely with you about to reply to every comment I make with a 5 paragraph waffle trying to act smart.

Guess that makes you my company then don't it lad? So what does that say about you? ROFL

Dec 9, 2009 at 4:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterGoonerJake

Don't kid yourself, mate, you've got more chance ringing the Samaritans. Talk about delusions of grandeur.

You'd be hard pressed to follow a donkey let alone an argument.

Anything beyond one paragraph, or even line, with words of more than one syllable, and expletive-free, poor old Jake can't fathom it all out.

Dec 9, 2009 at 5:26 AM | Unregistered Commentercliffyboy

LMAO. Rich coming from you mate. Want me to point out all the errors in your comments again? Nah didn't think so Cliffytits.

Internet hard man alert! PMSL

Dec 9, 2009 at 7:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterGoonerJake

Why do you have this absurd self-belief where you, and you alone, elevate your mindless dribble to some kind of scholarly insight or debate? It's pathetic. You ddin't even have the balls to reply to my challenge regarding wanting Spurs to win, and when I called a halt to my first efforts to you, in the hope you'd bugger off and leave us here and find your own team's sites to fester your anti-Spurs pus on, you even voiced the nonsensical idea that it represented a tacit admission on my part - Christ, do you live each and every day in a similar state of denial?

Talk about deluding yourself.

But as you prove time and time again here, and as others have seen and said, you just wait and wait in the wings, probably visiting this site at least daily, until someone posts something that gives you the opportunity to have a snipe or another cowardly go at Spurs, because never is one of your mindless postings, the first response. Oh no, I'm sorry but it's the work of one who will never be able to hold his head high on this planet and stand by what he says and believes.

When the call comes to man the barricades, Gooner Jake will be nowhere to be seen, unless you search in the darkest shadows of life and truth.

And when you do what really is your intention all along, if you only had the guts to admit it, so rile someone that they come back with an insult of their own, you then take the high and superior ground, as if their response proves all along that innocent Jake is right - you're a sad man, pal, let me give you the tip. It doesn't seem to occur to you that you're making the initial choice in the first place and invite such comments, a kind of mentally and emotionally crippled agent provocateur.

I tell you right now, if this site didn't allow contributors to post anonymous comments or if it demanded some sort of security from us or had some sort of process whereby trolls such as yourself could be weeded out, I wouldn't be writing this and we wouldn't have to put up with your verbal vomit.

Dec 10, 2009 at 12:49 AM | Unregistered Commentercliffyboy

Cliffy , as much as i may agree with you and the energy you put in to well conceived arguments to counter our resident troll. I do feel that you are feeding him , he's like a straycat ... feed him and he will follow you around nagging for food and attention ...
