Emmanuel Adebayor...Joey Barton...Hannibal Lector next?

Welcome to the second episode of The Fighting Cock, this week coming from The Maynard pub in North London and it's squeaky kitchen door. No engineer Al this week which meant recording the podcast was one of epic blood and sweat. We got there in the end (apologies for the sound dipping a few times in the opening 5 minutes).

Flav, Spooky, tehTrunk, Ricky and Chicago Dan all present and discussing Joey Barton and Emmanuel Adebayor as potential transfer signings and pushing them head first through the 'What If?' shredder of disdain. The team also look towards the new up and coming season (are we up for another top 4 fight?).

We've got also got Neil the cabbie - the début of one of many features we have lined up. Got some email listener feedback/questions too. Also Ricky implodes and undeniably looks set to win 'Pr*ck of the Week' before a single vote has been cast.

Love the shirt.

I was trying to decide what i'd chose if levy said we can either sign joey barton and a striker or sign no-one. pretty close run thing, i really don't want to see joey barton wearing a spurs shirt.

Apparently playing in Europe this season has killed off any chances of hitting 4th spot! What fcuking planet does that twitching monstrosity of a Carp in human form hail from? Surly - If we were playing in the Champions league year in, year out... Bollocks to it, I can't even be bothered to carry o....................................................................................................................................................................................

When did we become too big time for the Europa League???? we have won the Carling cup twice in the last 20 years and thats it! we should be looking to win it!

BTW Harry, Thursday-Sunday is exactly the same as Wednesday-Saturday!

Aug 4, 2011 at 12:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterOssie

I thought we weren't going to win the league because we don't have the money and pay the wages like the big boys. Now it's because of the Europa League. Make your mind up Harry!!

I've stuck up for Arry in the past but this guy is really beginning to pull my plonker.

Stop effing whinging and get on with your 2million a year job!

I'd like to level things up a bit with a counter-view on the Arry media darling debate...
but I can't....Just STFU will ya?! What next? I farted and it tickled my ass? Who cares? Do your job!

Some valid points made here by the Spurs faithful! I for one, will not be unhappy at 'Arry taking on the England job. Let the FA take some of the cr*p he's been spewing lately! I'd like to see Anchelloti at Spurs. Think that he was dealt rather harshly by the russian mafioso at Chelscum.

ossie , my thought exactly , what the hell is wrong with us

We are 2 big for the Europa League ? Thats just a bad joke ... We should be proud and try to go as far as we can but oh no , Europa League is going destroy everything

Euh and what about all the other top teams who do play european football even if it is CL ...

Pat Jennings, Willie Young, Terry Neil, there is a long history of players playing for both clubs. Any manager does what feels is best for the team at that time, not for himself. Listened to the first 12 mins (first time listener) don't think I'll bother again and the only people on here seem to be people who want to winge and moan about their club instead of supporting it.

Were you all moaning a year ago when we had qualified for the Champions League against expectations. It's pathetic how you all turn so quickly.

Aug 4, 2011 at 1:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterDecency

Decency, you can't be a spurs fan by coming out with a comment like that. In fact, you can't be a fan of football at all for that matter. You haven't got a clue what you're talking about! Consider Moyes for example, you don't hear him moaning that he's got no money for top players or that his club don't pay top wages. And yet, they haven't got a pot to piss in! Everton however, keep on churning out some decent results against the top clubs and finish in respectable positions in the league... for the money they spend. He gets on with it, unlike 'Arry who will be manager of England next year, anyway.

Ossie - we never (or very rarely) played CL on Wednesday followed by PL on Saturday.
The Premier League have always ensured that the CL teams playing on Wednesday get their league games on Sunday.
It's the Tuesday CL teams that played on Saturday.

No-one important rates the Europa from a team perspective. There's no lee-way with fixture arrangement. If you're in the Europa you have no choice but the play Thursday and then Sunday (usually also a lunchtime kick-off).
Not a huge issue if our Europa game is in France, Spain, Italy or Germany, but if we end up in the Ukraine or beyond then it's a bigger time difference and longer flights.

Playing in the Europa League didn't seem to do Man City any harm last season.......

Bit odd this, we didn't really criticise Harry at all on the podcast!

spooky - any chance you can upload the podcast on youtube? only way i can access it at work...

Oh for fuck's sake, its another Harry bashing day. I agree with every word he said about the Europa League. It is a waste of time. Of course we should be playing the kids. Of course we should be prioritising the league ahead of it (or at least finishing 4th). Whats the matter with you people?

We are in the Europa League because Chelsea and Man City are financial cheats. If our team played in pretty much any other league, we'd have qualified for the CL (I'll take Spain as borderline). I think getting to the last 8 of the thing last season is ample proof of that. So frankly I dont give a shit about how many cups we've won in the last decade, we are too good to lower ourselves into taking this outdated steaming heap of dung seriously.

Our priorities for next season should be as follows

1. Winning the league
2. Finishing in the top 3
3. Finishing 4th
4. Staying up
5. FA Cup
6. Carling Cup
7. UEFA Cup

Dont believe me? Then ask yourself how you'd feel about finishing 5th and winning the Europa? Of getting relegated and winning the FAC? If your answer is that you'd have taken 4th over winning the Europa, or staying up over the FAC, then you agree with me. And the idea that finishing 4th wouldnt be made more difficult by playing an extra 24 games in Europe next season is just plain wrong.

I know there's plenty memories in the UEFA Cup (and the league cup), but its time to face the new reality. The CL and PL have warped everything beyond recognition from 25 years ago, even from 10 years ago. So Harry's right, play the kids in the Europa, play them in the league cup, get them experience. If we get to the last 8 of either, then think about sticking some of the seniors in. This isnt defeatist, its common bloody sense.

No offense Belgian Spur, but the Europa League is made for countries like Belgium, Portugal, Eastern Europe - countries without the finances to do anything in the CL. A look at last years semi finalists tells a tale (3 of them from Portugal!)

Aug 4, 2011 at 2:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterPaul F

Once City went out of the EL last season, they won 6 out of 8 games. So you could argue they did better once out of it.

I see Harry's point on this one. Last year we were saying that he needed to concentrate on the League more. I think the same should happen this year, the aim has to be top4, Use the Europa to blood youngsters and rotate the squad more. Something Harry really struggled with last time out.

If we get back in the Cl those same players will need to play more of a role in the Prem the year after and develop more.

Enjoyed the podcast again, keep it up lads. Discussing Adebayor and Barton in our colours seems surreal to me. Forget he played for Arsenal and Adebayor has everything we need. Barton, can't see it if Harry still wants Parker.

So if I haven't misunderstood the orangutan faced non-wheeler dealing whinge bag, we can't compete in the league because of the money of the four above, and we won't compete in Europe because we have to concentrate on the league we can't compete in?

The bloke is an absolute tool.

Aug 4, 2011 at 2:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

I am just shocked Harry is talking about squad rotation, if only he had this bright idea last season. All the other clubs must be thinking how innovative we are!! As far as the Europa, I agree with 'Arry to an extent, the games are too far and the calendar too tight to make top 4 and win the Europa without rotation, however, lets not forget at this rate we should still have at least 1 of the 4 strikers, a few midfielders and maybe a defender hoping for games, so a few youth players, some fringe players and the odd star and who knows. Maybe even play a few fringe players in the league. This squad rotation thing sounds great, i wonder if the FA will allow it?
I dont mind 'Arry, I just feel that if last season he recognised players could be rested before injury we would have possibly got 3rd in the league, not just 4th, by playing some fringe players in the games were regulars were tired, but against bottom half teams. That would have then made it easier to flog a few of the deadwoods as they would have had game time.

Defeatiism on all fronts from Harry--must be part of a cunning plan to convince Modric, Bale, et al that we are ambitious and will be challenging for honors so they should stay right where they are because glory is coming...No? Not convinced? Why not? Just because it's same old same old from 'Arry-for-England-or-jail, denigrating the team to make himself look good no matter what the results.

Why is everyone talking about the Europa League and Harry Redknapp here? :c

Aug 4, 2011 at 3:10 PM | Unregistered CommentertehTrunk

Because you touch yourself..
Nah, should we talk about how brilliant you are instead? There's quite a few knowalls who are demanding respect they haven't earned yet on here already so you shouldn't be any different ;o)
It's all getting a bit Ghostbusters II on here today isn't it?

Aug 4, 2011 at 3:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

"Why is everyone talking about the Europa League and Harry Redknapp here?"

Because he made some more defeatist remarks yesterday and this is probably the first chance people have had to comment on it, even if the podcast (which I haven't listened to, sorry) isn't about that.
