Much maligned during his stint at Spurs thanks to that hefty transfer fee (no fault of his own) and the injuries but the lad always conducted himself like a gentlemen on and off the pitch. Wanted him to succeed for Spurs, but wasn't to be. Equally sad that he had to retire early. And now this.

Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:25PM Daniel Jarque, 26 years of age, recently appointed captain of Espanyol collapsed after training and died. You'll recognise the name if you follow La Liga and you might also know we were linked with him when Ramos was our manager. Showed no signs of having any issues with his health, so to say this is shocking news - especially for the Espanyol fans - is an understatement. Decent player, a product of their youth team. Very sad. And something that seems to be happening with a regular occurance in modern day football.
