Dean Richards

Only thirty-six, no age to go. Much maligned during his stint at Spurs thanks to that hefty transfer fee (no fault of his own) and the injuries but the lad always conducted himself like a gentlemen on and off the pitch. Wanted him to succeed for Spurs, but wasn't to be. Equally sad that he had to retire early. And now this.

RIP fella

Sad news, can;t believe he was only 36 years old. Seems like an age ago he quit the game.

Saw this early when it first broke, apparently two different people named Dean Richards died within 48 hours of each other and Twitter was in meltdown as nobody was quite sure if it was Deano or not. Hoped it was a name a like. Gutted for his family.

I think I remember watching him score on his debut. Dying at 36 is very sad. Does anyone know what he died of?

Massive shame. Hardly an innings.

Was at his debut, 5-3 United loss. Scored with his head (if I remember it correctly). I can't get over his age either. He's younger than me.

No mention of the illness that took his life but mentions the ear infection issues and dizzy spells he experienced that forced him into retirement.

Very sad indeed. Remember him scoring a thumping header at Anfield back in 2001 and jumping up amongst the home fans. I'm sure he was also a great man off the pitch. RIP Deano

Really puts everything into perspective. I am 54 years old and I feel absolutely lousy that someone so young has been robbed of life.
