Under Armour goes above and beyond

I've never been that fussed about new home/away Spurs kits from a consumers perspective. I rarely buy anything aside from training gear (tracksuit tops, shirts). Can't remember the last actual Spurs home shirt I bought (I was given one a season or two ago). You're more likely to spot a gut than a Cockerel on some of our previous skin-tight shirts, so I let the professionals do the dressing up. I'm far more concerned about how we look in it when marauding and swashbuckling on the pitch. Preferably, smart and traditional without any unnecessary fixtures (i.e. yellow streaks). So have Under Armour delivered?

I've got to applaud with a resounding yay. They have.

It looks like an UA shirt (if compared to some of their American Football designs), you can see the signature design elements but they are not poking your eyes out like the US based shirts. Nothing abrasive here. It's tidy and clean yet still striking. Love the collars. Love the white shorts (for European action only right?). The away shirt is equally standoutish.

I might actually consider a shirt for lounging about or blessing it as a lucky must have for sofa sitting football watching. Although those training tops are more likely to catch my eye and wallet.

Seems the official launch has done more for conspiracy theories than driving interest in the actual unveiling (as kits were leaked recently). People already attempting to work out who might be sold based on where they're standing in the main photo of the squad whilst kitted out in full armour. Gomes is hiding in there. You need to look real hard. It's like searching for Wally.

Missing players include King or Bassong or both (Is that Bassong pretending to be King on the far right or is it Ledley?), Jenas, Defoe, Pienaar, Caulker and one or two others. All of which are wearing the new shirt on the squad page (photoshopped in places). The main UA squad photo was taken during the season when some of our players were out on loan or had leave of absence, so no theories to be had here.

Aside from the fact that van der Vaart has been removed from the lead role in the away shirt promo images (leaked prior to launch) and not unveiled during the launch. van der Vaart giving us a seductive look (in the unreleased image) probably giving the same look to Hamburg. Hmm. Done and dusted then.

Also love the promo work for these shirts. Scott Parker's sexual growling, Gareth 'come at me bro' Bale, Michael 'I'm copying Gareth's come at me bro stance' Dawson, Brad and his evil plans to take over the world as a James Bond villain and Benny too cool for skool. Standard. Livermore looking a tad uncomfortable with the whole 'come at me bro' its more 'stay away lads I'm a bit constipated' and is Carlo gesturing rude things with his hand?

Click on above for more promo images via UA and for Tottenham's official FB page for more.

Nice work all round.

Thank you UA! It's been a few years, but I'm finally ready to go out and buy a shirt or two.

Love em.. my main concern is when do they go on sale in other sports shops... dont live in London and Spurs Shop Online is utter utter shit and always taken 3 days to dispatch an item with another 3-5 days until it arrives, yet i cant help noticing Spurs and UA keeping quite. I called Spurs and they said they dont supply sports shops such as JJB etc it would be UA, called UA and got "We dont know you will have to ask Spurs" so i called Sports Direct and JJB customer services, neither of which had any details about the kits and said along the lines of "if we are going to sell them then it wont be until October as the new kits promo details do NOT include anything about Spurs"

Why is it so hard for us to do everything right? look at the likes of ChelScum, Utd and City.. all have new shirts out, all released in ALL UK sports shops the same day for the maximum amount of fans to own the gear, yet we cant seem to get it right. Last year was another prime example the home shirt was out AFTER the season had started, so we had to cough up £40 to buy it and it be out dated quicker than every other team in the country, most of whom managed to get new kits unveiled and then on sale all within 6 weeks of the last season ending.

Makes me so cross that we are so bad at Marketing and PR and have been for many years now, fucks knows what we will do if we managed to win the league and over night our fan base went through the roof!

Yep, long day, I know that's Livermore and yet Walker ended up in the copy even though I proof read 3 times.

Have a friend who owns a golf shop that supplies under armour gear. He can sell spurs shirts in his shop through his under armour contract but not until the offical release date! If anybody is wanting a shirt dispatched faster then feel free to mail me giggsds2000@yahoo.co.uk. Selling any under armour product. Looking forward to using the complimentary box at the lane too!

Many thanks Spooky for sharing the launch pictures. It is clear the supplementary photos will be used to replace the main ones should certain high profile personnel depart this summer.

That will be the date that he can get the product into his shop.. I'll find out and give you a definite answer tomorrow nite if you like. Just mail me so I have your add. He gave me some under armour traing gear a month ago that would be used by spurs after going to a product launch at the millennium stadium Cardiff so I sort of guessed we would have some quality kits this time round.

Jul 12, 2012 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterGiggsy

Are we sure that we are not going to start playing in all-white?

I'd have to say that I would be very unhappy about that - about as unhappy as most of the squad look in attempting to show their 'street-cred'!

Jul 12, 2012 at 10:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterTommyHarmer

According to Spurs you'll be able to buy the Spurs all white kit, so that appears to be the suggestion.

In the promo pic I love the way they have put smoke effect at the bottom to hide the fact that benny is standing on a stool or something.

Also as mentioned above, it does look like Dawson is spanking the monkey of Livermore. Very aggressively too. Might cause an injury. Parker shows he can handle himself.

Love the kit though, all-white is the way to go. Not as sure about the all dark blue.

Thanks for the affirmation, Spooky. Saw the VdV version of the leaked photos last night. Immediately thought the unwritten caption for the Parker pic was "Come on, if you think you're hard enough." And that the VdV shot was overtly erotic. Tried pointing this out to a 'pool supporting friend at work, and received a very odd look in return (although he did agree that Daws was like a golden retriever pretending to be a pit bull--he's just too damn lovable to pull off the hard man look.)

Anyway, glad to know I'm not the only one to pick up on those vibes. Maybe it's a Spurs thing? Nuances of the photo shoot aside, UA have done an entirely excellent job with the kit.

@CaptainYid - I don't think you need be worried with goons messing with our pics. Have you seen the pics from their shoot? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA Absolutely hilarious! Let's just say, if they were our kits I would not be able to watch a game this season. Dreadful, if you lot are looking for a laugh, seriously check this out - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4424378/Jack-Wilshere-Co-parade-the-new-Arsenal-away-kit.html - Forgiveness for mentioning these shitehounds and posting a link from The Sun, but this is actually rather funny as is the kit offensive to the eyes. We'll surely finish above them this season.

Hope this lot don't go down the High Road with that attitude - they could end up gettin' shot.

The new kit looks great imo, in particular I really Iike the name of the manufacturer, 'Under Armour'. Conjours up visions of a siege mentality...a call to arms...a rallying cry. Scott Parkers pose is very apt,it appears that he's suggesting terminology such as, "Hello away team welcome to fortress White Hart Lane....Sound the trumpets, man the ramparts, up with the drawbridge."....I love it!!! I somehow have the feeling that we're gong to be quite a formidable side this year. COYS!!

Jul 13, 2012 at 4:11 AM | Unregistered CommenterDazspur

I'm an American Yid and Under Armour is one of the biggest sports names over here. Their shirts became popular about 8 years ago because they literally were under armour, or a super-light, unintrusive under shirt to wear beneath your kit in the winter. American football often plays in the snow, so it makes sense. They're light-weight, sleek and make you look super buff. Since then they've obviously expanded, and they've outdone themselves with these kits. I absolutely love them! I actually wish we could make the 2nd goalkeeper's kit our 3rd kit. I can see myself buying both the home and away kits for the first time in years.

Jul 13, 2012 at 3:00 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpurs 37001

This worry s me where is Defoe not at the Reading launch i hope if you make to many changes you then start to be a team in transition and that's is no good yes we needed tweaking but not all over the pitch. Its okay having a great shirts training complex but if we have a team full of strangers it will fail to start in the right gear. Last season Defoe scored 16 goals in half the mins Ady and Vaart played and to sell him to any other team could damage our chances of top four. If he wants to leave then loan him and he can damage other clubs not Spurs . This season has me exited and upset in equal amounts because Ady is proven Siggy is proven with another club but still premiership proven Vertonghan is not and any other signings from abroad. What last season showed was no top striker will sit on the bench and wait Avb tried this with Torres Sturridge and Drugba and it failed he also left Cahill benched and Lamp-post. We have no big egos but we have a good squad who all want too play. This happened at Liverpool and if we make to many signings it will happen at Spurs we don't have the time to do familiarity we can only do continuity. The squad we had last season only just failed through a trying season of trials and false media frenzy plus the untimely injuries too Hudds Dawson Kaboul King both knee and Lennon groin troubles plus Modrics 80 percent commitment seven points from bad flags and bad refereeing meant we finished fourth one point behind a team who have been in the top four for 15 seasons. Mr. Levey decided to start again even though we could see the summit sacked the Sherpas and team leader and install a younger croaky good looking team leader to plant the Tottenham cockerel firmly on the top of the league. Like all Tottenham fans i want AVB to succeed and our team to win and entertain us but my worry is twofold changing key areas in midfield defence and attack could leave us listing badly. We already have a new defender and midfielder and if the IIrumours are to believed a new striker while I welcome new editions to the cause it should not be for what i call a valuable well liked member of the squad or you are asking for trouble. The second point is leaving players just like Crouch did could take the points that may make the different s at the end of a hard season Stoke took five points of us mainly through our ex player lets not give Reading or others the same advantage. When you make a new untried signing player or Manager they want to stamp there own brand on the job or you get comments from the sacked predecessors' saying it was my team like AVB has already stated over is Chelsea sacking. We all go into a new season without the advantage of our previous campaign because Freidel is 41 Modric for leaving Defoe is for the chop so I am not forcasting anything till i have seen who will be coming back to haunt us and who we have has ghost busters P,S. the shirt is greeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaattttt.

The shirts where made in America and copied in China

Jul 13, 2012 at 6:46 PM | Unregistered Commenterdavspurs

I like the shirts but I think it should be white shirts and blue shorts and blue socks. Those are our colours but we look like Real Madrid dressed like this. Take the bottom two thirds of the second kit and add it to the new shirt and you've got something but this is selling out our traditions. I guess all that matters to Under Amour is they can sell these shirts so they recoup their investment so I'll admit if they cough up enough money so we can keep Modric then I'm OK with it.

Frank, how long have you supported/followed the Spurs?

Jul 15, 2012 at 12:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterTonyBlue

Having looked on the Spurs Shop site, at appears from the description that the replica shirt at £45 does not have the cockerel on the back.
The `genuine` version does, but will set you back 95 - yes 95 sobs.
Has anyone actually had a proper look at the shirt? Can the above be confirmed or is it simply a mistake (or sales ruse) on the part of the shop?
If this is the case, it`s the first time I`ve known a replica shirt to differ visually from the genuine article and this would be hugely disappointing.
