Ideal targets?

I wrote the linked article below a few weeks back and if you've read my last blog you'll note I've change my mind in terms of transfer target expectancy (especially with the centre-back position).

Click on the above image to see the article. I'm being a little wishful with two of the three ideal transfer targets. Although I still firmly believe we need cover for the flank and a forward. Just don't think we'll be looking at tens of millions of pounds in new signatures.

Sweepstake time. Name three potential signings this window (limit it to three targets otherwise you'll be as bad as any ITK sharing inside info).

The winner gets to gloat.

OK Sppoky, I'm going for:

Samba
Drogba

Not my ideal choices but a long way...just realistic, January targets I guess!

I really can't decide who Harry is targetting for this window.
I suspect he'll look for cover at LB though he may hold on to Corluka to do the cover on both sides.
If Bassong is sold then a move for Samba is certain. I think the ship has sailed regarding Cahill.

Midfield I think a move for Hoilett would be sensible, but I don't see it happening. Don't think we need anyone else in the mix as Sandro can cover for Parker and THudd will be available again before long.

Up front someone only comes in if someone is sold. If Pav goes then I see another attempt at signing Podolski or Huntelaar. A cheeky bid for Drogba would be nice though. With the way we do business it's another 28 days before anything happens anyway, even if the rumours of Harry's 10/11 January deadline are true.

So, I go with:

Samba
Hoilett
Drogba

Until about a week ago i would have said Berbatov as the striker to go for.He has played only a few games this year and is now showing how good he can be when he wants to.As united seem to be going to take the option of another year this now looks a dead deal.Drogba will never be allowed to sign for us after Modric and the fact we are above them. The only hopes i see on the striker front is Agbonlahor or Cisse and Samba to shore up the back line.I don't really want Cisse as i think he is going to the ANC so that leaves Gabi.Big guy who will give a lot and mix it up and could cover for Ade if he were god forbid get injured.

van Persie and Tevez - nailed on, done.

...meanwhile, back in the real world, i don't think we'll be seeing many (if any) new arrivals this time. It's 100% about keeping the existing squad together. If we make it through January and Bale, Modric, VdV and Lennon are still Spurs players then I'll be happy. If we pick up a proven goalscorer from somewhere I'll be even happier.

Hoilett, Samba, Odemwhingee

Just give me Berbatov, Cahill and Gabi and I'll gloat, gloat, gloat.

Huntelaar would be enough at the moment.

Jan 3, 2012 at 1:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterIoanX

With Dawson back. I would keep Bassong and no need to buy a CB until the summer and even after that because Caulker is coming back. Watched the boy and was really impressed. the next LEDgend.

Cavani and Shaqiri or Dembele.

I'd be inclined to go for premiership proven decent players who can provide good cover when needed as our first 11 pretty much picks itself when fit.

Our bench is extremely weak - livermore & co are not up to the standard we require.

How about TIM Cahil and/or Clint Dempsey as back up strikers? Leyton Baines also a good shout.

Wayne Bridge also decent and a move to us may give him the kick up the backside he needs.

If we're dreaming then i would love berbatov back or even Torres. I have a feeling that Harry could do wonders with him and you don't go from being world class to piss poor overnight.

Samba
Holliet
Zamora

Things to buy in January:
1) Drogba
2) Samba
3) Gigantic new trophy cabinet

Harrison - Moses?? You expecting him to part the Red & Blue sea and let us stroll through into 1st place?

Jan 3, 2012 at 4:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

I'm going with Samba, Leandro, and Papiss Demba Cisse. But Leandro won't happen without stupid money, so I'll replace Leandro with Hoillet.

Really, REALLY wish we could've even attempted to sign Demba Ba.

Walkerboy - lol not quite mate - just a thought as an alternative to Hoilett
Rovers want 8m for a 21yr old with 6m on contract - Moses 18mnths left
same age can play left or right wing and arguably more out n out attack
minded than Hoilett - more shots more dribbles better pass accuracy

Can't believe so many are picking samba, he is not good enough for this team. We need to improve......too clumsy and has poor positional sense.

Jan 3, 2012 at 10:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterHotspurs

As for Zamora, pls, what on earth are we talking about, get real, we are trying to get to the highest level, not stay where we are or go backwards.

Jan 3, 2012 at 10:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterHotspurs

Tevez goes to Milan, allowing us to swoop for Negredo in a player plus cash deal with Giovani or possibly Pav going the other way. Next I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and go with an 8mil pick up of King Kong Chris Samba. Lastly, Shaqiri's been linked with some big clubs and has been touted as the next Messi but I believe we'll snag him in at around 10-13mil... Pav, Bassong(if samba happens), Giovani, Gomes, Pienaar and possibly Charlie should be gone come Feb. 1..

Negredo
Samba
Shaqiri
Doc Brown personally came to my home and gave me this info.

Unless there's something else I don't know about him, I am honestly shocked that no English teams are going in for Marko Marin. In the CL for Bremen he looked absolutely immense last year and would provide great cover/competition for van der Vaart and Modric.

Also I'd rather have Jagielka than either Cahill or Samba. With Dawson coming back and Kaboul's evolution it isn't totally necessary but when Bassong came on for Gallas tonight you could see how it damages us tactically. Need someone with a better understanding in defence as a long term solution.

If we could do a cash+player deal for Jagielka with Pav or Kranjcar moving the other way and get Marin from Bremen (would love Jovetic but that won't happen anytime soon) then we'd be sorted. Any goalscorer I can think of would be silly money and with decent service (which we can provide in abundance) then we still have Ade and JD to stick them in and can search more seriously for a striker in the summer.

Jan 4, 2012 at 12:49 AM | Unregistered Commenteracroamatic

Jagielka over Samba any day..........

Jan 4, 2012 at 9:04 AM | Unregistered Commenterhotspurs

We need to either A sign Adebayor on a permanent basis (however wages would be a serious problem) or B sign a big striker preferably Damiao and give him time to adapt to the premier league before leading the line next year.

We also need another wide player as cover as playing modric or vdv wide seems to limit our play and their influence. I can't see why Gio doesn't get a look in as a genuine winger however he doesn't so I would hope for Marin although not overly optimistic.

Also need a CB, Bassong = shit, Kaboul only seems capable of playing well with King which doesn't happen often enough. Gallas is old, injury prone and not that good. Dawson can't play with Kaboul as they are similar players who lack positioning and when playing together get caught out. Samba should solve the problem I hope.

So three signings
Adebayor/Damiao
Marin
Samba

acroamatic - for what it's worth - understand having poor season - started 9 subbed out in 7 of those and came on as sub twice, been troubled on and off all season with injury [hip]

Jan 4, 2012 at 1:01 PM | Unregistered Commenterharrison0908

Can't understand the fascination with Samba at all. He is to the back 4 what Crouch is to a front 2.
Turning circle of a supertanker. No speed except that his stride is one and a half of anyone else's.

Surely this is not the type of centre half that Spurs should be looking to when you consider the style
of play that is built on passing and moving.

Jan 5, 2012 at 11:17 AM | Unregistered Commenterspurssince80

Incidentally Gallas has been poor this season IMHO, he is clearly past it.

Jan 5, 2012 at 11:27 AM | Unregistered Commenterspurssince80

Drogba....... When are we going to look to the future rather than another team's past?

Jan 5, 2012 at 12:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterJack

Samba and Tiote for me...

...these two would help us retain steel at the back and in the midfield, and solve our otherwise ineffective set-piece situations regardless of injuries and absence of the BeanPole.
