Glory Glory

Not a lot going on at the minute, other than The Guardian building up insane twitter hype about a massive announcement only to reveal an article about how Inter were set to bid for Bale (£40M) in the summer. Someone should have a word that if they want to get involved in the ITK community waltz they need to take it one transfer window at a time.

Anyways, no Stratford article today (I'm not a machine). Instead, visual emotive stuff drenched in sentimentality.

That's how I roll.

Thanks to Nutter-Naylor.

That should get played before every game... should make the players feel special and remember what they're a part of when they pull on that shirt!

And I'm not ashamed to say it but when Arthur Rowe's lip started going at the end there... so did mine!!!

COYS!!!

p.s Striker please.

If Arthur Rowe, explaining what Spurs ment to him, doesn't bring tears to your eyes and make your heart swell with pride then nothing ever will. A true Spurs legend, marvellous bloody marvellous.

A lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.

If they could capture a bit of the style and atmos of the old shelf, I wouldn't care where they build the new bloody stadium.

Never seen this before and brings back a few memories.

One thing is for certain and that's football has changed, mainly because time does that to everything. Actually feel a bit sad after all that.

Jan 27, 2011 at 11:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterJep

Thanks Spooky, never seen that before. Says it all really. Brought back lots of memories, not least of being in a crowd surge. Lets hope Keith wasn't prophesying when he said "There Used to Be a Football Club Over There".

I still have my 'And The Spurs Go Marching On' 100 years of Spurs book (as seen behind Harry Carpenter) it's in my bookcase in mint condition. Cost me £9.95.

Jan 28, 2011 at 12:42 AM | Unregistered Commentermarcooni

What a great cup final that was against City. You normally only see the last goal. Seeing all that makes this current situation feel worse.

What lovely guys they are Bill Nick, Stevie P, Burkinshaw. Really makes you proud of our past.

And there is nothing wrong with living in the past if it's that special. Id rather look back for the moment till this is over.

Jan 28, 2011 at 1:39 AM | Unregistered Commenteryidal

Spooky you bastard.... More than a few tears in my eyes watching the footage, brought back so many memories of the good times at the Lane. I wonder if DL has seen these ? I hope so ...Dunno what else to say,

Jan 28, 2011 at 2:17 AM | Unregistered CommenterOzSpur

This is what disgraceful fans like 'no name norman' just dismiss when they sell out for 30 pieces of silver to move to Stratford. Far too many 'fans', and I use the term very loosely, don't seem to realise that this is what made our club great and are quite prepared to leave it all behind just because they want a comfyer seat, less traffic or a less crowded train when travelling to the game. I certainly won't miss people like that when they're gone, I doubt many will, unlike the legends in the clips who will live on in million hearts forever.

Jan 28, 2011 at 3:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterStoney

Glory Glory hallelujah....indeed. How I wish I'd been there in those heady days.....this is possibly one of the finest pieces of footage I've seen in a long, long time. Any true Spurs supporter would have felt their own chins wobble and a silent tear roll down their cheek when the ending shot of Arthur Rowe' trembling lips showed, in one poignant shot, why we all support this club. It's a shame that both utterly moving videos have immediately been politicised by the pro-N17ers, and no doubt the Stratfordites will show before long as well, but that's a sad fact of modern debate.

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterDubaiSpur

@Scooby Spurs. Agreed with the pregame show but ixnay the guy in black face banging on a drum. Prolly wouldn't go over to well ;P

p.s.s. yeah, we need a striker.

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:39 AM | Unregistered Commenterbig sky spur

Well said stoney, and well said Mr. Rowe. Absolutely amazing, and a man who doesn't get enough credit for all he did for the club.

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:50 AM | Unregistered CommenterSTLSpurs

Stoney your full of shit with your ridiculous accusations. No one on this blog ever said anything about abandoning Spurs' past achievements, or as you put it “prepared to leave it all behind”. Also, all of the legends that appeared in these vids were talking about the CLUB and not about the locality, except the narrator in his introductory remarks.

And if you are among those who are willing to ditch Spurs because of their possible move, “I certainly won't miss people like that when they're gone”. Many of the still alive legends of this great club came out and said yes to the proposed move. Why? Because they love this club and want it to grow and achieve greater heights.

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:50 AM | Unregistered Commenterbeetleblues

Amazing spooky....simply amazing. I've lost a team before when our NFL Cleveland Browns moved away in 1995 to another city. We got "them" back in 1999 as an expansion club. We "kept" our traditions but the whole feeling and emotions are faked. I would have traded those years to watch the Browns in any location...as long as they were mine and kept our history.

Spurs can move anywhere...but we will always have the history, regardless of address. Let's just hope the move solidifies our future and our kids can watch Luka, VDV, and Bale terrorize English and Euro clubs on Youtube one day.

I understand why you're so defeatist, ClevelandSpur---it's because you're from Cleveland. What decision has been made regarding the OS? None. And the final decision is in March, not next week.

Jan 28, 2011 at 8:36 AM | Unregistered CommenterRonnie

What a great history.

Isn't it a pity though that a club with such wonderful history as an attacking force now has Peter Crouch as its forward talisman. A person not renowned for scoring goals but who is tall and can therefore head balls sideways in the penalty area. So sad.

If it were 61 he would be playing for the opponents not us.

Jan 28, 2011 at 8:40 AM | Unregistered CommenterRonnie

Lets not kid ourselves, when all the Hullabaloo and Brou-ha-ha is over, the true fans with Spurs Blood flowing in their veins will follow their club to any home.

Jan 28, 2011 at 9:06 AM | Unregistered Commenterperrymann

Great post Spooky, it's been a while since you've made a non-biased blog post simply about Tottenham Hotspur. It seems we all appreciate it. As previously stated, it's a shame the comments have degraded into a Stratford / N17 battle, as I think such comments are missing the point here.

Jan 28, 2011 at 9:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterSpursnomad

correct the true spurs fans will follow the club to wherever we end up. personaly id favour a move to hertfordshire, good solid spurs territory, and less chance of seeing gooner kids playing football in the local park like you do at the Lane! Hertfordshire is ours..
When you've got a history like ours, you want to savour it coz it's so damn glorious. we won the league in black and white but what a win it was. Love it. COYS.
PS gotta beat AC Milan.

Jan 28, 2011 at 9:38 AM | Unregistered CommenterDixta

Beetleblues. I wasn't aiming my comment at anyone on this blog. It's been the topic of discussion over hundreds of blogs for weeks. Perhaps you hadn't noticed. And where did I say I would abandon spurs? Read what I posted again, even better get someone who can read to read it to you. You're making it up as you go along. The point i was making is that tottenham is our home and that's where I want us to belong. I also want spurs to grow and prosper but I don't want it at the expense of our history and tradition which so many seem so keen to leave behind just so they can say 'my team is top of the league'. Supporting spurs is more than that. If it wasn't you wouldn't have a spurs fan under the age of forty.

I must apologise to spooky for politicising his wonderful blog on this occasion, as some have said, but I can't help but worry that so much of those wonderful memories, in the clips, will be lost with a move away from our spiritual home.

And as for you bettleblue, I don't know you and I don't want to, judging by how and what you write I certainly won't have missed a life enriching encounter.

Spot on Stoney. What's the point in winning if we sell our souls in the process? And no, it's not just the change of address, it's everything that it symbolises. If trophies is all your after, just support Man United until they stop winning, and someone else after that. You're heart would not be in it, but then who cares about that once you have bragging rights. A league cup is all that I have to show for my years supporting Spurs, and I don't really care. Of course I want success, but not at any price. It's Tottenham first, always will be. What did Klinsmann ever win here? Is he still a legend?

I support Tottenham for what it represents to me. Fantastic attacking football, exciting players, ups and downs. Not everything has a price.

An emotional piece of footage that Spooky, top man!

It gives me immense pride watching that, we were the tailblazers of football in England, we set the standard for others to follow and they did, but over the last 25+ years our rivals have overtaken us leaving us to wallow in our own history, wondering if we'll ever reach those dizzy heights again.

The true travesty of this great club is if we updated that footage to include the last 28 years there wouldn't be much glory to add to it, the UEFA Cup and an FA Cup being the 2 highlights... heartbreaking!

I live in hope, as do us all that one day, maybe in the year that ends in two one's, that we see the return of the lilywhite giant that is THFC!

Glory Glory hallelujah...

Isn't it ironic that Sir Bill was looking for that one final piece of the jigsaw, that man to lead the line and score the goals...

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterDY

... the rest as they say, is history!

Jan 28, 2011 at 4:38 PM | Unregistered CommenterDY

Video clearly shows that despite being a professional club THFC remained a kind of association to a certain extent. A place where people used to gather in order to cultivate sport, so to speak. Could any modern club be considered and run this way and still be successful in the era of footballing PLCs?

Astonishing however, that what this video doesn’t hesitate to cherish on the club’s 100 anniversary was Spurs’ style and humble origins among others. All illustrated with words that might be worth remembering: ‘Each and every club has its own special character and identity’.

Jan 28, 2011 at 6:24 PM | Unregistered Commenternthnth

There's a cabbie who works in the Cheshunt area who used to run a club (I think in Enfield), youth players and such. Back in those days he would turn up at the reception at WHL and it was like a family. He'd go and see Keith B, chat to the coaches and players. They'd send people down to watch his players and now and again, pick one up for trials at Spurs. And the club also spent a lot of time and investment with the local team. It all changed when Burkinshaw left.

He turned up at the reception and was told 'who are you?' and treated like a bloke off the street. Couldn't get to talk to the manager and was told 'make an appointment'.

Community spirit and that almost innocent family vibe died a long long time ago. It's more of a society progression than anything else.

I have a concern and a suggestion.

So suggestion 1st. Please Please no more mention of the Stadium plans till the closed season, Surely recent results smack us in the face that we have lost our Mojo.
4 Weeks ago we were invincible, we had Beks aboit to lead us to world domination & a stadium the size of London to move into.
Now we have a team that have lost the will to win (I am sick of the "we did well to grind out a draw today" comments) Posh Spice hubby you know whats his name pricking about at the training ground, Bids for loony geordies turned down and everyone talking about Stratford..
Concern
We do not have a system or Striker that can fit into that system at the moment, Teams are geting used to our attacking prowess and Harry seems to have switched ends of the pitch and is obsessed with clean sheets.
What & Whom we have is the same but the results are not. Rather than whinge about whom we are to sign and whom we shall sell surely we should be concerntrating on the job in hand.
Harry if you read this PLEASE PLEASE remember these players beat Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool already this season. They are a good bunch of lads whom just need to go out and bang 6 goals past someone to get the mojo working. Might I suggest Fulham in the cup.

Maybee back to a 4-4-2

Crouch & Defoe up front VDV & Modric in the middle, Dawson & Gallas at the back and fill in the gaps with anone with pace and fitness. go for the throat and push on..........

Stevo out

We can only hope for a last minute blockbuster as the window draws closed, and yes, that loony Geordy would look quite striking in the Lilywhite
