Glory comes in three colours...and a red dot

Never Red Fail.

New sponsor - Autonomy - for Prem games only. Apparently ENIC/Levy had shares in Autonomy Corporation PLC once upon a time (not sure if they still have minority shareholdings or not). Levy uses the word previously, so no bother either way - it's a good thing he's very familiar with them.

Anyone thinking the above mock up would be better with just the text or the logo (one or the other basically and not a mash-up of both)? Also - can we please get rid of the red dot please?

Anyways, who are they exactly? A global leader in infrastructure software. Not exactly sexy is it? But considering what they do, our shrewd chairman hasn't just bagged their cash but also their expertise (Autonomy will work with Tottenham Hotspur across a wide range of activities including significant consultancy support for enhanced services to fans and for the Club's new Stadium and Training Centre developments - from official Spurs news article). That's some nifty work.

No doubt Levy is also working hard at other commercial rights (i.e. stadium name), but then planning permission hasn't been officially granted and it's some time off - so the present is all about gaining money from a second shirt sponsor - for the domestic cups and (hopefully) CL group stages.

The thinking is if we qualify for the proper part of the Champions League, we'll bag a lucrative 12 month contract to cover it and the domestic cup competitions. Long term is always going to be dependent on where we finish in the league this season, so it's a risk for someone to offer us money and sign a long(er) contract for that reason. However, that's not to say we won't get a similar deal to our Prem one, which includes the option to extend it after 2 seasons. Guess we'll have to wait after the two qualifers.

Talking about money, it's around £20M or so from Autonomy (differing reports, some say £9M per season). Not bad, bit more than the Mansion deal. Nice work.

Watch this space is all we can do for the other remaining shirt sponsor.

In other news, according to the fabled ITK's (I read it on a forum) Harry has signed a new two-year extension. We await the oracle of the official site to confirm.

Ah well who'd have thought the A team would make such a dramatic return to our screens, all action blockbusters each and every week over a ten month period, shame our main striker has a problem with flying however, never mind...just whack him over the head and let's get the job done. Brilliant news for all concerned, and there's more to come so I hear. Inventive, bold and brilliant marketing, no alcoholic or gambling connections, its suits the shirt as well. Brilliant job guys..In Levy and ENIC we trust.

Sadly Spooks I have a feeling the logo on the shirt pictured above will be the one used on the shirt for real. It's not as bad as Mansion though. And I can live with the red dot. Just about.

I hate that red spot, it reminds me of a Paki spot. Get rid

Jul 8, 2010 at 8:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterNo offence

If it's £20M for just the EPL games that's an amazing piece of business.

in reference to the red dot is out of order (I would go as far as to say racist).

Jul 8, 2010 at 8:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterNo Offence - you're a bell end!

Lest we forget, we have just one spot of red on our kit, whereas them lot down the road had a primarily white away/3rd kit last season and will have a primarily navy 3rd kit this season.... who is trying to emulate who?!

this kit looks great the red dots no problem is it we got yellow in last kit it looked crap

Jul 8, 2010 at 8:58 PM | Unregistered Commenterjason

9 or 10 million a year just for our league matches in the current financial climate is unbelievable.
If we get another sponsor for cup games, how many of us suckers will end up buying both shirts this season instead of just one ?
Levy is a bloody genius!
As for the red spot, shirt would defo look better without it, but at least this shirt has less red than the Mansion one, so going in the right direction.

Jul 8, 2010 at 8:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterDAVID

yes the yellow didnt look too good, but it wasnt the colour of our rivals...although the 13 blue dots could be the number of english players in our squad, and the red for the amount of english in arse anals squad....

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:13 PM | Unregistered Commenterjimmy mac

Come on, the red dot isn't that bad. It's being proper picky complaining about that really. In truth as many have said it's an amazing and very clever bit of business, I personally like the retro puma styling to to be fair. Nice kit all round. And let's be honest, as long as the lads are doing the business on the field I'd be happy with an asda smart price t-shirt with autonomy in bic biro on it!

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterLennon7

Levy may be a bit lousy on the football side of the game (or used to be) , he got game on the business side though. Nice deal , CL hopefully bringing in the extra cash and another sponsor on the way ? The accountants are drewling over this one ...

Love the new shirt btw , retro all the way

Keep racism out of these forums, we're all Spurs fans, therefore we're all the same.

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:34 PM | Unregistered Commentermickey

I think people need to understand that a big company's brand integrity is way more important that colour coordination and that if they're paying ten large a year then they are entitled to their red spot!

and i can deal with a red dot, better than the whole thing in red.

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterWaj

The "paki spot" that you most charmingly refer to, No offence, is called a Bindi. It's apparently a sign of concealed wisdom.

You should wear one No offence, you certainly conceal all wisdom!

Re: Shirt and sponsor's logo - couldn't give a stuff tbh - we all bought a dog shit brown one for mega bucks ffs!

KICK OUT RACISM AND RACISTS

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterWaj

You forget the black spots making you think of black people , and the white shirt well thats obviously refering to whiteys, the logo looks french and i hate the smurfs so the blue has got to go ...

Well i guess you get the point ...

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:42 PM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

Love it. First home shirt I'll have got for about 5yrs

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterMorgan.

A quick change of subject so 'no offence' doesn't get the limelight the plank was after...but did anyone else read the gudjohnson gossip about a new loan move being tied up in the next few days? Can anyone see the point?! I didn't think he did that great last season, a few moments obviously, but overall isn't he just more likely to utilise up one of the younger lads substitute appearances chances? Eg dos santos or sandro?

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterLennon7

I think Gudjohnsen is better off going to a team like Fulham rather than here. For all his undoubted quality, he is a bit slow and would only be coming off the bench. I really wouldn't complain if he did sign, but there has to be a better option out there, surely?

I wouldn't complain if he stayed though, he does seem to know what to do with a football.

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:54 PM | Unregistered Commenteryidbanker

I happen to be a 'paki'. No Offence, you're a cunt. As for the sponsor, understated and classy. Well done Daniel.

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:58 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelfLife

I'm happy to have Gud renew his loan deal. Class & experience coming off the bench.

Jul 8, 2010 at 9:58 PM | Unregistered Commentershelfy

Gudjohnson is steady, and admittedly does slow the game when were leading with 15mins to play, but I just feel he isn't really necessary and will it make Harry think twice about signing someone else who perhaps may make the difference? I don't know, I just think following the positive sponsorship deal maybe we need to aim higher.

Our club crest had red lions on it for years, i can deal with this tiny bit of red in a sponsors logo.

Jul 8, 2010 at 11:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterPLN

Yeah, they're selling 'training shirts' with that design, so I wouldn't bank on that being the new home shirt. You know in the Middle East, they don't even let Pakistani or Filipino men in the shopping malls on a Friday. Makes 'No Offence' look like a real racist amateur.

Jul 8, 2010 at 11:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterInner City Life

No Offence is a paki, she's winding you up!

Jul 8, 2010 at 11:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterRay

Does no one care about the giant "A" on the front? I don't care about the red dot compared to that. God forbid they drop the "Autonomy" text and just go with the logo graphic... Levy wouldn't dare, would he?

Jul 9, 2010 at 12:02 AM | Unregistered Commenter"A" bit worried

Maybe they would let us slightly change the logo, so that the red dot is slightly inside the circle, with the other blue dots making up an image of a flight of a football

Then the Ad could be

Autonomy
(Nayim from the halfway line)

The lions on our crest are red... The club crest that is, not the cockerel shirt badge. I think we can get just a tad over-excited about stuff like this. The main thing is £20m in a recession for half the rights... Daniel Levy is a genius.

Jul 9, 2010 at 1:53 AM | Unregistered CommenterMes

I think it's great, best in a while. PUMA have come good.

Spooky
That glory glory MB your on, are they taking new members, I have tried like 10 different signups and they never send a password, hope the owner isn't trying to kill the MB off. Shame really cos some of it is a good read. Bloody frustrating not being able to post on it :(

Jul 9, 2010 at 2:27 AM | Unregistered CommenterSuperthudd

Everyone seems to hate the red dot. What you guys may not know is that statistically speaking, teams with red on their jerseys tend to do better that teams that don't. Just a little bit of trivia for you guys. When you think about it , you'll realise it''s true. COYS

Jul 9, 2010 at 3:03 AM | Unregistered Commentermadaboutspur

Dis dannyboi really know how to do da bisness.. dis guy can squueeze money out from a rock.. brilliant..

Jul 9, 2010 at 4:57 AM | Unregistered Commenterstevespurs

MadAboutSpur - ...well, we prefer to talk less about teams in red being successful... Look at Liverpool, they appear to definitely be on the way downwards anyway. Besides, it is not always true - in Spain, no team with red is successful - despite being the national flag and national shirt colour. In Italy, the teams in red are not the best at the moment. Ultimately, a red dot is not gonna make any difference. Incidentally, Liverpool are sponsored by Standard Chartered, who have toned down their colourful logo for the shirt - I don't know why this doesn't happen for spurs sponsors. As someone pointed out - Autonomy sponspor the Mercedes Formula one car with simply the name 'Autonomy' with no logo.

Jul 9, 2010 at 6:23 AM | Unregistered CommenterTonyTott

Red haunts our season again but thank God it's just a dot this time around! Hats off to Levy for coming up with such a creative approach to securing a sponsor.

Jul 9, 2010 at 8:05 AM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi@ibleedhotspur

Superthudd - you should be able to sign up, no problem. Not sure if they block certain email addresses due to spam - doubt it actually because you'd be told during reg.

Jul 9, 2010 at 8:54 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Best shirt for years. Since Holsten classics. No chance of sponsor having just name or logo though - £20 mill has to get maximum brand awareness. Red spot is there to show "autonomy" (independence) so must stay also. Personally, I don't care. Levy does the best business in the EPL by far.

Jul 9, 2010 at 9:08 AM | Unregistered CommenterBig Fish

No offence, how appropriately named, you are not. And I agree, you are an utter bellend.
On the shirt sponsor, excellent piece of work by DL & Co. Who really gives a toss about a a bit of red in the sponsor logo. Those who frown on it need to get in the real world. Money is how you get where you want to be in the world of football and I've never heard a gooner moan about their sponsor name being written in white.
