FAO Daniel Levy

Ignoring the textbook media reports in the build up to Saturday's game that Manchester United are going to be looking at signing Gareth Bale in the summer for £20M (LOL), I'll further ignore delving deep into commentary over this 'rumour' and the subsequent discussions arising on both Spurs and Utd forums about the young Welsh monkey-God. Other than pointing out the success of Berbatov and Carrick since their departures. Both decent players. But both undervalued (it would seem) by many United fans. Although Bale is something quite different from these two and United were interested in the lad before we signed him. I suspect others will also knock on our door and wave money in our faces.

I'll get straight to the concluding point.

Gareth Bale. New Contract. Make it happen. Now.

Daniel, please make this summer a Tottenham Foundation contribution free summer*.

*Please feel free to make a contribution if you're not in anyway associated with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool etc etc

One good thing about Levy is that he is tighter than virgins p*ussy - so if anyone wants Welsh Monkey Magic then they will have to pay way over the odds!

Apr 22, 2010 at 1:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterShabba

you saw his celebration against chelsea - he loves spurs. he loves redknapp. he loves the fans. why would he want to go to united when we're on the up and have a massive stadium to look forward to in a couple of years. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALE

Can any player resist the charm and wit of Ferguson?

Apr 22, 2010 at 1:56 PM | Unregistered CommenterAuthor of Comment

Everyone's just getting their little panties in a twist which is exactly what the United media people want, if the story was in fact linked from them.

Does anyone really believe some of our players won't be linked with other clubs this summer? What would've happened if Lennon had been fit this year?

Wasn't it exactly this time last year that we had the exact same conversation regarding Modric? I don't recall any offers coming in for him, let alone from Fergie who it was "reported" would buy him.

If we get into the Champions League proper I would fully expect to see ALL spurs main players to remain at the club, unless someone comes in with a stupid offer for one of them that we feel would benefit the squad as a whole.

Let's be honest, the only clubs that can do that are Man City and Chelsea. Utd don't have the money. They need a new keeper, central defender, right back, central midfielder and potentially another striker before they should be looking at a left winger. Who knows what will happen come the summer of 2011 but if Spurs have done their business well and have continued to invest wisely and perform well on the pitch by that time there might be no need to move anyway. Plus, players will know Fergie will be gone soon so that will to move there will be less.

would take more than 20 mil i think.

Apr 22, 2010 at 1:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterMattyblamblam

If the rest of this season plays out the way we hope it does, then I think the only players leaving will be ones that we want to leave. The benefit of strength in depth has been shown to everyone in the last few months and if we are competing in the holy grail of CL then that will be tested to the limit.

£20m, £30m, £40m... Nothing compared to 3 or 4 seasons in the CL and the revenue that will bring towards the clubs development plans. Time to think for the future and that is very much the likes of Baler, Daws, Gomes, Lennon (If JJ would agree to a groin transplant), Wilson etc. Our involvement would at least convince them all to stay for at least the first season... Especially when DL & HR can point to the up's & down's of people like Berba since they left.

Incidentally, I would take Berba & Carrick back in a heartbeat for our first CL season... So maybe DL might like to work on that one instead!?

Spurs guaranteed european football next season

As long as it's not just the Eu-ropey league.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterFiedor

Only 20M. This kid is only 20yrs he will get much better and could be and will be Europes best player and more. In addition some of the kids we have at Tottenham will frighten any team in Europe in the comming years. So the only way to stop us is to buy our gems/young crop of talents and stop us getting any further in the top flight of football. We need to hold tight to these players despite the short term profits and build around them for long term success and bigger profits in the future.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:13 PM | Unregistered Commenterserge

silly season starts earlier and earlier evey year. Some mischevious little monkey has started a rumour and its all over the internet and papers like wildfire, and coincidentally its a few days before we play manure. Totally agree with the sign him up sentiment like we have done with some of the other top performers this season, then qualify for the champ league and we can put these annoying rumours to bed COYS

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterSkinny

Here it comes again, that old Scot just dreams of managing Spurs huh? So he doesn´t need to speculate for signings...
Provided we achieve 4th spot this year, most players will stay. But we need to keep playing well and do a good CL run (like, qualify for knockout stages) for next season, or else some players WILL leave after that.
But I trust the team.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterDiego Oliveira

What? Fergie interested in our best player just before we play them in one of the most important games of the season? Hold the back page! Besides, this story was in The Express. Have they run out of Princess Diana conspiracy theories to print? Their journalists make Dan Brown look like a paragon of historical fact.
Seriously, I'm sick of Utd skimming off the cream of our squad every time we look like building a decent squad. Levy, whatever the boy-wonder Bale wants, double it. Just make sure he signs up for another 5 years, build the team around him. I'm hoping that the fact he makes a point of applauding and waving to the fans after every game counts for something.
Can you imagine the damage Bale and Lennon would do either side of Pav as part of a forward three with Modric pulling the strings and Wilson and Hudd smashing things up in midfield?? Yeah, you heard me; No Defoe. Deal with it. Ok, so we tried 4-3-3 earlier in the season and it didn't work, but that was with Keane, Jenas and Bentley instead of Bale, Modric and Lennon.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterNext Season

I wish players would be dismissive of links like these. They should say "I'm fully committed to THFC and have no intention or desire to join the scum that is sucking the life out of our club. Please, Sir Alex, do one... Thanks."

United. Jog on.

Jog on, jog on, jog on.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

There no other Spurs player who deserves an improved contract other than Monkey Boy.
Berbaflop can get f*cked and rot out his days as a 3rd choice striker at Utd behind OG.
If Jenas can show some mettal, leadership, overcome the invisiblity, sliding form, inconsistancy, the boo-boys, and stop playing like a frightened child keep him Harry by all means.

Apr 22, 2010 at 2:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterTheInvisibleJenas

Fergie will retire next season, United know this so they will not let him spend money they dont have on the basis that come next summer the new boss will want a huge chunk of cash.

I would be shocked to see United buy anyone over £10m this summer.

As far as we are concerned, Levy wont sell anyone he can keep his hands on. Berba went because he refused to play, Keane went to scousers for similar reasons. Carrick was old times, when Levy realised he needed to buy a lot of players. Now we need one or two top draw players so he wont sell his top talent to replace them with maybes.

Apr 22, 2010 at 3:03 PM | Unregistered Commenterspurs_est1882*

Please let Arry ban the players from reading the back pages and the net, we need to concentrate on the CL and worry about the contracts later, Bale unfortunatly is Welsh in which case will have loads of spare time to sit down with Levy and sort it out. Lets all get our heads back to what is important and Bale start eating your wheetabix and get ready to tear Neville a new a-hole and remind him how old he is!!!!! COYS

Apr 22, 2010 at 3:32 PM | Unregistered Commenterfolkestone_yid

Maybe I'm wrong but the first time we tried to sign Bale he rejected us? We then went on to sign him that summer. And I think the rumour at the time was he was waiting on United to come in for him. I'm not trying to scare people here but that is how I recall it I also read he grow up as a United fan.But sure if we make the top 4 he will stay he seems like a good lad. JUST GET HIM ON THE NEW CONTRACT LEVY.

I'm sure the club are in talks. Levy is perhaps among the shrewdest chairmen about, and certainly learns from his mistakes (Campbell).

I also remember reading somewhere that we have a two year option on extending his contract...

I suggest that people stop referring to our 20 year old star as 'monkey boy', ect. I'm sure he's confident kid but constantly making fun of his looks doesn't seem like a good way to make him feel respected. Just a thought, as this tends to bug me.

Absolutely NOT. I am only pissed off that I did not tape the matches, I felt like it was bad luck. I will not be taping the game at ancient trafford either, as I am clearly doing somthing right.

A little off topic, sorry, but check out highlights of Luka's performace against Chelski. He's really upped his game of late, a real big match performer our little Croat magician. There's also a nice 'Luka Modric Compilation' - love the flip celebration, can we have that on Saturday please. I firmly believe that he's most effective in the middle, tough as anything aswell, which is often overlooked. Only problem is, how do we have do we fit Hudd, Wilson, Sandro & Luka......If Old Baconface comes calling we need to say "Fuck off." Problem is, Levy lives for profit.

Mes, thanks for the calming words, but I tend towards Trentspurs way of thinking. I'm not convinced Levy's entirely seen the light re I'm running a football club not a trading operation. Profit it profit, right, and trading gains are a lot more quickly and easily realized than building a team that can increase profits through European competition and, dare we say it, winning things. Even then, what was the net gain on Berba versus the prize money for the Carling Cup?

What does give me hope that we won't see sales of key players is the real chance that we may finish 4th. That's guaranteed starts in Champions league matches with us vs. warming the bench if you're lucky at the Chelsea or ManU, or the chance of literally freezing your tits off during winter away matches at Shaktar Fuck-Me-It's-Cold, if you go with City. Neither ManU nor 'Pool are going to have serious money to splash around this summer and I can't see Levy dropping prices.

So just hang on to that fourth spot.

Apr 23, 2010 at 12:39 AM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Was waiting for this, Manure tossers to come in treating us like a feeder club after Carrick and Berbs. Want to say that why I am sure Levy has noticed this rumour growing etc it will only be a matter of days before he or Arry jumps on this. This kid could be immense and has more than wetted our appetite since getting that monkey orf his back. Ginola he is not, but from videos I have seen he could be next Cliffy Jones and said legend has already had his say this week, both welsh wizards. 20 years old, etcbut feel I must point out, that Bale has played in same team as Giggs, probably idolises the man and why do Manure want him......to replace Giggs no doubt so the temptation for the young boy could have undertones here. We weill only have to wait and see, but its pointless waiting nigh on 20 years to get side capable of reaching champs league and who knows what else domestically over next few years, to once again to strengthen Utd's dominance. Daniel I hope you are listening!

if we can get a pt at Ancient Trafford, we should be more than happy. Best case scenario is Citeh draw/lose to Scum and drop pts against Villa. Then the pressure is off when we meet them at their oasis. But knowing our beloved Spurs.. we tend to do it the Tottenham way (hearts-in-mouth).. HOPE.NOT.

TrentSpur, thank you much for posting the link of Modders vs Chelsky. I wish everyone else would do the same with whatever Spurs’ link they come across to share the joy with other fellow lilywhites.

Apr 23, 2010 at 5:16 AM | Unregistered Commenterbeetleblues

Absolutely spot on spooky...need to get him under contract, 5y to 7y and pay overs if you need to. Paying him 60k a week, even if tweaks the wage structure of the club up 200k a week in total is 10mm sterling a year and but it would add 30mm quid worth to his value to the club.

Cannot sell, no matter what, the following senior players this summer: Gomes, Dawson, Bassong, Huddlestone, Palacios, Modric, Lennon, Bale, Defoe, Pavelchecnko.

Should not sell these senior players: Crouch, BAE, Corluka, Krancjar

Can sell the following in order to buy: Keane (10m), Jenas (7m), Bentley(7m), O'Hara(6m), Hutton(6m) Gio Dos Santos(7m), Tarrabt (3m), Devritte (1m). (47mm in).....Bring me Ashley Young, Steve Gerrard, Gudjohnson (perm), quality back-up keeper.

I'll be fine with:
CD: King, Dawson, Bassong, Woodgate, Kaboul
Full backs: Benoit Assou Ekketto, Corluka, Walker, Naughton
Wings: Bale, Young, Lennon
CM: Modric, Huddlestone, Sandro, Palacios, Gerrard
S: Defoe, Pav, Crouch, Gudjohnson

Young guns: Livemore, Bostock, Parrett, Rose, Obilka on the outside pushing their way in....

Apr 23, 2010 at 6:56 AM | Unregistered CommenterTim

its time we stopped being a feeder club to the so called top four as we are now the top four "come on you spurs, one final push and we are there. So Mr Levy im aware that Tottenham Hotspur are a PLC company and are required to make money but selling Bale would be short term buisness and put spurs back into a top 6 to 8 side rather than a consistant top 4 side.

From all true spurs fans please give the welsh wizard mark 2 (Bale) a new contract and tell the mancs to politly look somewhere else for a left sided footballer
