2-1, innit...

In my match preview I stated the following about the north London derby:

It should be nothing more or less than the most important 90 minutes of any season. Blood, thunder, drive and spirit. And tenfold passion. How else can you possibly match the noise in the ground? If that can't elevate you then nothing can. And yes, bite me, I'm a football romantic, but to me these games should be defined by guile and tenacity of the players out on the pitch. And not because XXX is out injured watching from the sidelines.

To dare is to f*cking do, so just f*cking get on with it and do it.

The Gods, they finally smile down upon us. Where do I even start?

Immense night, immense result. We dug deep, deeper than we've ever dug before. I'm talking centre to the earth deep.

Sorry, this blog article is not going to have much of a structure as I'm just throwing various bits at it as and when I remember to do so. It's the emotion. I'm choking up over here. That and the fact that today will no doubt play out like a really really good (lol) M. Night Shyamalan movie where all Arsenal fans have suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth. No shocking twist at the end of this one. Bless 'em. The gutless geebags.

Talking of the geebags, I don't like to gloat. Honestly. It's something they do, and they do it without class or humour. But honestly, open forum lads. Your season, ended. At the Lane. What next then? I suggest you start taking the Carling Cup seriously. Honestly, it's a fun day out. With the pyrotechnics and flags and stuff. Honestly, 5 years without a club DVD? That can't be good. If this is Spurs punching above their weight, then don't mind me whilst I dance like Robbie Keane.

Was that a gloat? I guess it was. Eleven years ya know. I'm a bit rusty.

Gomes was magical. Dawson awesome. Bale and BAE storming down the flank. Sure, there were moments when you might have sighed at another misplaced pass or the lack of ball retention allowing them more time to neatly pass the leather around. But for all of Arsenal's pretty possession, they hardly did much to genuinely worry us in the final third. Well, until the final 15 minutes or so when I was too busy chewing on my hand to dare look up at the action. Although when I did, I caught glimpses of a flying octopus sprouting wings as it flew through the air at lightning speed to guide the ball away from the goal. This was no CGI effect. And I would gladly allow said octopus to sleep with my wife. If I was married. But he can have a go at my bird if he so wishes. As long as I can watch.

Even Kaboul gave effort beyond his means, even if he's lacking in so many other ways. And I'm not referring to the lack of depth in his eyebrows. But there is no criticism to be found for any of our players, not in these euphoric post-match hours.

Everyone gave it some. For the colours. There was heart and there was desire. Not so much composure at times, but plenty of it when it mattered most. And the second goal, just inside the start of the second half was like a point blank shot in the back of the head. Bale, the sneak, sneaking and slotting it for 2-0. Definitive moment that. And richly richly deserved that.

How many times have we buckled in the past against these jammy fuckers? Too many to mention. We might have struggled to beat them over the years, but some of the score-draws tell a different story. And in this case, it was simply not going to happen. Tired legs? I saw no tired legs.

Like some form of mystical sponge we soaked up the pressure and at times looked more likely to score on the fast break, in comparison to their 20 pass move that ended up with a goal-kick.

Shout out to Eidur Gudjohnsen. When he came on he was superb in possession. Should have made it three. But I forgive you Eidur. I forgive you.

King, Ledley. A man who doesn't train. Probably nowt wrong with his knee either. He's probably not even human. I'd hazard a guess and say 'bionic' in creation. The reason he only plays one game every three months is because we're busy recharging him in-between. Have to do it slowly otherwise we'll bring down the entire national grid.

Back onto Daws. Strength of character. Must have been devastating, Sunday. And yet what a performance. Commanding stuff.

Have I mentioned Bale? I have? Can I mention him again? What. A. Player. Confidence. If you could bottle the stuff it would sell for millions. In the meantime, if you get close enough, you'll smell it in his lush black hair.

Gomes and those saves. Billy the Fishesque.

Oh Danny boy, Danny boy...what a strike. Majestic. Beautiful. BELTER. A left-foot gem of a thumping yet graceful volley. Worthy of it's own DVD. Talking of which, I've checked the official website and I see no new release. Slackers.

LOL at people suggesting it was a goal-keeping error. Okay, so Alumnia is shite and he sort of dived under the ball when attempting to save it, but crickey, did anyone expect a player to strike the ball ON the volley from 30 yards out after the keeper punched it out? Do one playa-haters.

And let's not forget Harry. O knee-jerkers, knee-jerkers! Wherefore art thou knee-jerkers? Starts Pav and Defoe. Plays Danny Rose (okay, so this might have been textbook luck that no doubt Harry will play on, but it still took guts). Organised and focused, we defended like warriors. Granted, we watched a lot of the ball at their feet, but the pressing worked. Second half, two subs made. Tactical master-stroke. Not just the subs but the way we countered Arsenal. We didn't just shut shop on them. Hit them on the counter. Soak the pressure and hit 'em. I'd like to refer you back to the second goal. Even the first goal came about after sustained pressure from them.

Have we played better football, dominated possession - against them - and come away with a point or nothing? Many times. Which is why this is so so sweet.

Also, Mark Cluttenberg. We slate refs when they botch things up and always make sure we mention it. So, it's only fair I point out that I hardly noticed him in the NLD. He had mad flows. Considering the intensity of the game, credit. Just a little. Don't want him overdosing. And if we want to be critical, he should have waved his yellow card at some of the Arsenal players for the odd theatrical dive and elbow. Okay, so he's shit, but he's no Howard Webb.

Judas? He actually played well. Hope he enjoys the memory.

Somewhere in the midst of all this, the scum got a goal back. THEO (did he just guarantee his England place with that assist? Did he? Did he?) crossing in for...it doesn't really matter does it? They got dicked.

I'm off to Swansea Thursday morning. Work thing. And drink-up. So will be back on-line Friday evening, unless I sneak in a cheeky blog post at some point tomorrow. Will also announce the winner of the 'Spurs Cult Heros' book. More to follow for sure.

Enjoy your day.

Awesome to a man. Special praise to Dawson (currently the best English centre half in the country) , BAE and Gomes. Seriously, is there a better goalkeeper in the Premier League? Such a difference with Ledley back. Effort, desire, spirit.............outstanding.

Watched the game with 4 gooners. Danny Rose's goal. What a moment. Screaming while doing an airplane celebration around the room, weaving in and out of the gooners. Agh. The 11 years wait was worth it.

It has been said here before but MAJOR PROPS to 'Arry and the lads for turning the squad around after a gutting defeat. Sounds very hippie but I almost feel like there was a weird universal karmic debt thing going on against Pompey. In some weird way, it feels as though we paid it and were rewarded with good karma. Oh maybe that's just the hangover talking :)

I can't believe no one has mentioned Huddlestone yet!

He was absolutely superb - MOTM for me - mobile, all over the pitch, never stopped pressing when l'Arse were in possession, tireless, some delicious passes and generally bossed it. Real coming of age performance for me. Oh Tommy, Tommy!

Everyone of our boys left blood on the turf tonight blood and sweat. GOMES is a GOD 80mins of sod all to do then that one man show fucking sublime. What other keeper in our recent history would have made those gooners cry so? Otherwise it could have been another dominated match chucked at the end like so many others past. Did no one mention 3 pts gained where we would never have expected to gain 3 points? I think it's a measure of how far we've come (since we started down the right road with Jol), that we should be celebrating the 3 points first and doing the Gooners second. Don't know if too many will agree, but think about it....

Apr 15, 2010 at 12:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterDeadly

It was the 3 points but everything that came with it. Us still being in the hunt for a Champions league, ending the Gooners season, bouncing back from Pompey, the spectacular goal, the unreal saves... it was just one of those nights where all the shit seems to be forgotten.

Watched the game in a (mostly) gooner pub. That was fun! Tumbleweedesque come full time.
Daws & Ledders - heroic.

Man, I was at work, here across the Atlantic (Brazil), striking the 'F5' key frantically and didn´t leave until the end of the match! A workmate started bothering me saying Gooners would make it 3-2 (most people here only know the Sky 4 teams), gave him a huge '_|_' after all!
Great goal and great debut by the boy Rose, welcome to the EPL! And talking about how good Bale is, that´s raining on a wet floor...needless.
Now, would it be too much asking for another win on the weekend? I don´t think so!

spuds won yesterday ,call it lucky or whatever a win is win so well done! but not even the most fanatical spurs fan can deny that even with that highly depleted team who were without match-fit rvp, fabregas, gallas, arshavin, song, vermalen all 6 of them world world class players arsenal dominated and controlled whole match, if it was not for gomes we would have won 3 or 4-2 , and doesnt matter how good rose's goal looked it was a fluke and even in training he cant hit that strike again.but i really wish spurs take that 4th spot bcoz our domination over spurs for last two decade has been so one-sided that spurs were becoming bit of yawn !,one positive from last night was magical rvp and wenger was right to compare him with rooney ,messi and ronaldo , though he is not messi rvp is better than rooney and things would have been very different if rvp was there for full season, though i m angry withcmy team due to last performance but when i think where would b chelsea without drogba , man u w/o rooney, liv w/o torres , barca w/o messi i admire what arsenal achieved /underachieved w/o rvp this season ,anyways i didnt think i will ever say this but spurs best of luck for nxt match and thrash chelsea.

Still buzzing from the high.

Now for Chelski. Wont be as easy. We will need
a) a strong referee
b) to want to win more than them
c) to realise that for the victory over L'Arse to count for something this campaign, we will need to beat Chelski.
c) to focus on one game at a time, and beat what is put in front of us

We have beaten them three times starting from 2006, we havent lost to them in the last three years at WHL, we have a tried and tested gameplan against them.

I suppose everything is relative. If we lose this weekend, but Man. City also lose, then it's status quo.

Where are all the gooners pretending to be yidos you usually see online. Nothing to say today ?

Aside from the win, and some great performances, best thing was how we battled for it like we did at Stoke.

Spurs are not usually known for winning tough games like that but the tactics we deployed last night worked spot on.

Doing it without Wilson, Niko, Lennon etc was especially impressive. Great times to be a yido !

Bendtner goal was offside (luck ?)
Gomez>>>>>>>>RVP so suck on that
You had a whole week to prepare we had 2 days
You have'nt beaten us at the Lane for 3 seasons now (admittedly draws) so do one with ur 10 years cr*p.
We've played a whole season with what was at the start are 3 & 4th choice CDs and half fit ledley & still pwn
Kaboul>>>>>>>Rosicky hahahahahaha
Another potless season of underachievement for the goons going backwards Your supposed to challenge are'nt you.
Rednapp>>>>>Wenger 2 seasons unbeaten at the lane and pushing for top 4 in his first full season.
Danny Rose 3 touches all match>>>Theo Walcott playing
Lennon not playing>>>>>Theo Walcott playing.
Vermalen wimped out he knew..he just knew!!!
Sol Campbell was ur best player and he is a **@'%% and a **@@@@@%%.
Now p*ss off you graceless a**clown.

ArsenalMyLife - enough of this "Fabregas, Arshavin etc. etc. are injured" bollocks.
If it's not the "it's the kids" line it becomes the "all the injuries" line..... excuse after excuse.

Yes, you had players absent, but we've also had major injuries to players ruling them out for long periods of time.
However, Harry and Co have NEVER whined and moaned or used that as an excuse.
The lads have come in and done their job week in week out.
Let me list a few of those injuries for you:
1) Woodgate - missing all season
2) King - appearances are rare
3) Modric - missed 2 months
4) Lennon - out for 2 months and counting

Last night alone we were without Lennon, Palacios, Woodgate and Corluka.

Oh and we also played 120 mins of football late in the afternoon on Sunday, while you're lot haven't played since that other humiliation last Wednesday.

No more excuses - you were soundly beaten by a a team who wanted it more.
It's been threatening to happen for the last 2/3 years.....

its true spuds can never ever defeat arsenal if both team are with strongest 11, and they cant even defeat our weaker 11 without being lucky,it may sound like some excuse or something so be it thats the truth, u lot were chasing arsenals shadow throughout whole match and if it was not for that fluke goal from dani rose (first time heard of him) and some quality keeping from gomes result would have been 2-3 to arsenal , its better spurs dont qualify for top 4 bcoz it will weaken english hold in europe nxt season and would b kind of insult if a medicore set of players in spurs will represent english football in europe, anyways if u get lucky and do qualify u would b outdone in qualifying round before actual ecl starts.

oh! look at these spuddies whole world knows u got lucky yesterday and even in defeat and lack of arsenal first team players , the match showed the gulf between arsenal and spurs, how many passes ur players string together not even 3 no wait first u got to have ball first , admit it u were chasing shadows from start to finish.and ur goals were freaky and fluke , danny rose (who the hell is this guy ) just threw the boot to the ball without even looking at the goal and got lucky, second goal our 6th choce defender yes 6 th choice defender as 1c vermaelen 2c gallas 3c campbell 4c djouru 5c song 6c mikael sylvestre made a mistake and let an unintended pass from defoe(or whoever it was ) go through to feet of bale (has he ever scored before) and on other hand we got goals cleared from line , 1 or 2 times woodwork came in b/w, gomes made outstanding saves and all arsenal domination was wated and spuds won but u should really not forget the real thrasing u got at emirates earlier in the season and in that match also u got lucky bcoz scoreline should have been 5 or 6 - 0 and not 3- 0 ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!1
