Fourteen from Six

Evening. Almost morning. And I'm still part-time blogging until the New Year due to other commitments. Mostly rum. And The Ashes. Thought I'd share this. Form guide for the Prem.

In a nutshell:

We are second in the table. 14 points from the last six games. 12 points from the last six home games and 10 from the last six away games. In contrast, Chelsea are nineteenth in the table with just 3 points from their last six. Also delightfully ironic is this:

Newcastle

Aston Villa

Chelsea

Fulham

That's the bottom four. Almost feel gutted we didn't take our chances in that first half against the blue scum. However, would be a perfect end to 2010 and start to 2011 if we pick up six more points in our next two fixtures.

We don't lose often at the Lane but we draw far too many. Let's keep it simple. Win. Win <- next two N17 games. That should iron out the inconsistent home patch quirk. All eyes on the battering ram in black and white tomorrow. All eyes on van der Vaart in Lilywhite.

And Modric. And Bale. And Lennon. And Palacios. Go on then, and Dawson, and Kaboul and...

COYS.

Peace.

That bottom four could be a bottom six as we played the Brummies and will play Everton soon too. Although the table is subject to change of course. Newcastle will score tomorrow but I fancy us for three or four.

we just need to concede nothing. this way, one goal per game is enough. COYS!

Dec 27, 2010 at 11:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterPav

Come on the boys. Three more points tomorrow. Hopefully Villa will turn a corner and get something from City. Hopefully we'll bat for the fist hour, Prior will get his ton, then we'll skittle out for an innings victory in three day and the little urn in the bag.

Dec 27, 2010 at 11:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterKing Yid

Can't believe we've only kept the single clean sheet. That's quite shocking. But somehow okay because of our general form. Gomes is far more a liability this season than last season when he was immense but its been said a few times, chop changing the backline doesn't help.

Dec 27, 2010 at 11:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterEd

Grit. We have it. At long last. Eat it. We have so much grit we're a dirt bike track.

Dec 27, 2010 at 11:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterDubaiSpur

Nolan out (5 yellows) so good news for us! Its a must win at home tomorrow. 3 points only will do. Think they will really have a go at us from start tomorrow. Hope Carrols more unsettled than here to prove a point?! Looks like Chelski may be the new Citeh (one to beat for top 4 spot)? Although fancy Citeh to have a few game bad run over next couple of months. Any one know update on Thudd, King, Woody? How are Man U unbeaten in prem, without Rooney firing they are distinctly not world class on paper? Red nose does work miracles!!

Dec 27, 2010 at 11:46 PM | Unregistered Commenter'D' Yiddy

Good opportunity to entrench a spot in the top 5, over the next few days, and jusr maybe, Chelski will be the ones to miss out!
Can't agree with the sentiments on here regarding the little urn, being from Oz, but rest assured , my heart beats Lilywhite!!

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:05 AM | Unregistered CommenterOzyid

We keep winning but can't seem to get into the top 4. That run should end tomorrow if we get another W. COYS!!!

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:08 AM | Unregistered CommenterIaG

Im pessimistic about tomorrow. I fear we mint come unstuck. Not saying we'll lose but think it'll be a very tough game and any result is possible.

That's sitting on the fence if I've ever seen it.

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterDrwinston001

i dream of bale setting up a vdv hatrick and carroll grabbing two purely for my fantasy points as i'm 26th in the telegraph ff

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:30 AM | Unregistered Commenterducky

VDV the crazy dutch goalscoring machine! This is what I've been on about, a player who scores goals for fun!
A must win against the Magpies!

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterBimspur

When is THudd coming back from injury?

Dec 28, 2010 at 1:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterIaG

Villa game, and there are many other similar examples where a striker is ejected, showed that being reduced to 10 men is only a psychological disadvantage. Spurs matured and grew in confidence to the point that they could cope with ease to such adversity. I didn’t see any panic out there, especially as Harry introduced Lanky who eliminated the only possible vulnerability – high ball. Defoe’s ejection might not be that tragic after all because it will give him time to additionally recoup, and will be smartly used by HR to keep other strikers happy. IMHO, that’s the only reason for him not to appeal Defoe’s ridiculous dismissal even though everyone meaning anything in football, except Graham the Twat Poll, laughed off this (possibly rum induced?) error.

OK, the other reason may be to scratch balls of the FA referees’ gang a bit by not exposing them to public ridicule and therefore get some rain check from the crooks.

Spurs vs Toons 2:1 (0:1)

Dec 28, 2010 at 4:37 AM | Unregistered Commenterbeetleblues

Head says 2-2, heart says 3-1... We'll see. Think it will be a really tough game. Dont think VDV will last 90mins. Hopefully in bag by then..! Mentioned earlier but does anyone know when Thudd is back? Oh and the refs performance aginst Villa was the worst i've seen for a long LONG time - not just the disallowed goal and Defoe, so so so many ridiculous decisions throughout.... Can't believe more hasn't been made of it. Saying that im in Brisbane, so maybe not getting all the press etc? Has he been slated in press?

Dec 28, 2010 at 8:47 AM | Unregistered Commenter'D' Yiddy

I understand the negative perception that prevails. Recent performances show that confidence is high up.
The defence & Gomes need to be lectured to, so that they can improve & not repeat errors that they are in the habit of committing.
Keep your heads high & enjoy another victory.

Dec 28, 2010 at 8:48 AM | Unregistered CommenterRoy Singh

Morning Spooks. Head still swimming from the rum or the wickets?

Anyways, to matters much closer to home. MOTD highlighted what happens if you give Carroll a few reminders you are there early on. I fancy Daws and Eunice to do just that. Might cut a frustrated figure - I can only hope.

Just don't want that little ******** (put in your own word) Barton to do the same on Modric. Think he'll be chasing shadows mind you. Shame Defoe isn't playing.

Dec 28, 2010 at 10:26 AM | Unregistered Commenterhoopspur

Head hasn't stopped swimming for days.

I'm hoping Newcastle and Carroll don't get the pleasure of chances on goal. In fact, rather we not do our entertainers bit today with end to end football and just basically throttle them up top and win comfortably, giving them a horrid time with wave upon wave of attack.

Pav to start. I think he'll score a brace.

Dec 28, 2010 at 10:29 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

I know this is asking too much, but the fact our goal diffence is so low in comparison to teams around us its equivalent to having 1 point less. So, we need to give someone a Wigan style thumping & you know what, soon i think we will, we're playing the most delightful football i think i can now say as a spurs fan since 1975.

COYS

Any of you guys in the UK that can update us on when Thudd is back. I reckon it is supposed to be end Jan. I hope he is back to San Siro game.

Dec 28, 2010 at 11:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterDonny

Hudd who? We're so much better without him.

Dec 28, 2010 at 11:37 AM | Unregistered CommenterDaveK

Carroll is a good player. I really rate him. I think he is exactly what we're after in a striker. Physically imposing, pace, power. Decent touch. He's a quality player. For us, I think Bale, Lennon have their way. Crouchie knocks down two for VdV who pockets them, Modders sneaks in for one and VdV returns the favor late on and Crouch gets the lazy 4th. 4-1 as Carroll gets a late consolation.

Dec 28, 2010 at 11:58 AM | Unregistered Commentertim

So all the non-english resident spurs fans should assume no-one has a clue how long Thudd will be out for? :)

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:01 PM | Unregistered Commenter'D' Yiddy

Thudd is well off coming back. It was a 3 month layoff and it started in mid November. Mid Feb is the target (would think). He still is in a walking boot so he isn't close. With Palacios back in form, I think we manage (as long as Modders holds up). But I do agree Huddlestone would be nice to have at AC Milan.

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:02 PM | Unregistered Commentertim

And Jenas ? I have not been following things closely due to work and Christmas related things

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:31 PM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

Jenas came on at the end of the second half against Villa

Dec 28, 2010 at 12:51 PM | Unregistered CommenterDeadly

Ok thanx , i just managed to see MOTD and that's about it

Dec 28, 2010 at 1:03 PM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

Well we should if we are serious about staying in the top half win this game but Barton will make sure is team mates run around a lot and put there energised foot in to our players legs. Harry should rest Hutont make these changes and play Kaboul right back and Bassong centre half or if Gallas is back play this back four to cope with Carroll Gomes Kaboul Dawson Gallas BassonToon nowg We need to become the White Hot Army and make the lane a Fortress

Dec 28, 2010 at 1:24 PM | Unregistered Commenterdavspurs

What a bunch of thugs and gyppoes those bar codes are. Shame we ain't got that fussy ref from the Villa game, he would have sent them all off by now.

Dec 28, 2010 at 3:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterRoman's Interpreter

Palacious looks as though he is confused. he's playing like an idiot. Hutton needs to be replaced at HT or he will loose this game for us.
How come these people are getting the lion's share of the free kicks. They are kicking lumps off our players.

Dec 28, 2010 at 3:56 PM | Unregistered Commentercookiebun

I could really get into this Ozzy Rules Football malarkey - however, what role does the little man in black play?

Dec 28, 2010 at 4:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterWisky Tom

More upset about that red to Kaboul than Defoe's on Sunday. Thought Defoe was asking for it--looked deliberate, in no way part of a leap. But Tiote should have been off already for second yellow and that confrontation looked like handbags to me--yellow card, not a straight red.

Lads'll be well and truly knackered after this, two matches in three days with 10 men. Hang on, boys. Take all three points!

Dec 28, 2010 at 4:33 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Fuckin beautiful display today lads! Ref was a bit of a cunt at times but all in all itwas a wonderful pressie from Spurs....Perhaps for the 12 days of Xmas, Spurs will continue to keep giving us this wonderful joy!

Dec 28, 2010 at 5:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterBimspur

from bbc website

Saj Chowdhury reports: "Down to 10 men, they bring on a forward and score a goal. If Spurs fail to win the league, at least it will be a glorious failure."

Dec 28, 2010 at 6:28 PM | Unregistered Commenterpicasosdog

I heart you Spurs.

Dec 28, 2010 at 6:34 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

beautiful stuff spurs, I wish this xmas would never end - I reckon we should rest a few players on sat and just play with maybe 6 or 7 players (its fine we will still win)

Quality quote from the bbc:-

It was also the first time since the opening day of the season that Spurs kept a clean sheet - more of those and, come May, the men from White Hart Lane could be toasting an event that has not occurred since 1961.

Exciting days - COYS.

Dec 28, 2010 at 6:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterCEJ

If Dzeko was obtainable would we still want Carroll, just hope this transfer window we get a strilker/centre forward/goalscorer who can score a ton of goals.Someone has to soon be on the end of a serious spanking from us the amount of service my nan would get 20 a season.

Dec 28, 2010 at 7:06 PM | Unregistered Commentercol

Someone asked how are our injured players getting on....... I can tell you.....one of them's outside a nightclub on Boxing Day night puking his guts up......a good way to help the injury along, huh? and real respect for what we're trying to achieve this season.

Dec 28, 2010 at 7:54 PM | Unregistered Commentergee

Gee, would that be our club captain by any chance?

Great second-half performance today by the lads in spite of the ref who must be a City fan....how Tiote and Smith stayed on the pitch is beyond me.

Newcastle were a disgrace which is sad in my view 'cos I like Geordies.

Now let's see how we cope with Fulham...can be a bit of a bogey team and they had a great result today so could be another tough game but at least it will be down to footballing ability rather than karate training. COYS!

Dec 28, 2010 at 11:20 PM | Unregistered CommenterDaveK

Ooooh, get us... we're 2nd in the 'Formguide table'..... We got grit... like a dirt bike.... Your teams like a dirtbox more like... Tottenham Shitspur (thanks Dubai..) sooooooooooooooooo rock!! Come on lads... group wank...

Desperate.

Dec 29, 2010 at 1:14 AM | Unregistered CommenterEd

I thought Palacios was decent (a few misplaced passes but a couple of great ball winning tackles). It did seem like we needed something at the half and the Jenas sub worked a treat so hat tip to Harry. Jenas looks hungry and gave us a bit extra in breaking them down. We have a very good squad. Crouchie, Bassong and Jenas all made +ve impacts off the bench and this without Defoe, Huddlestone, Gallas available. It wouild be nice if we showed some discipline but it would be helpful if the official didn't let us get kicked all over the park. How the hell Tiote stayed on, I'll never know. Kaboul deserved his sending off though so no argument there. The top 5 are pulling away now and we are with them so looking forward to a great 2nd half of the season. We're in very good shape over the next week. Bolton should give Chelsea a real run tonight as they are in form while Chelsea look terrible. Man City play Arsenal next week in what we can only hope is a draw. I can easily envision a top 5 of Man U (20plyd, 44pts), Man C (22plyd, 42pts), Arse (21plyd, 40pts), Spurs (21plyd, 39pts), Chelsea (21plyd, 38pts) after Jan 5th. With our players coming back from long term injuries and our form picking up assuming we win our next 2 games (10 undefeated, 24/30 pts), we'd have Man U at home with REAL title implications on Jan 16th! COYS!

Dec 29, 2010 at 1:18 AM | Unregistered Commentertim

Hi Whiskey Tom,
If the little fella at the back, is the same guy I'm thinking of, then he's the goal umpire... a guy who is there specifically to adjudicate, whether the ball crossed the line etc....wouldn't hurt in the Premier League now, would it!
How about the game against the Toon...bloody marvellous!

Dec 29, 2010 at 8:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterOzyid

I reckon they will praise the Newcastle way of 'playing' on MOTD, grit and determination and all that , in stead of slating them for such a sad display of anti football

But hey , even with ten men we possess the quality to win these kind of games , consistency - AVE IT !

Also reckoned JJ was pretty much looking like before his injury , sharp , hungry and even starting to show a bit of craftmanship.Poor Wilson on the other hand was a bit lost ... i hoped that after this weekend he would be back amongst the heroes but he still needs time to regain form apparantly

Dec 29, 2010 at 8:31 AM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

Ozyid

G'day mate - I was being funny mate! The game against the Toon was like watching Ozzy Rules - thought I'd knocked my head or something.....

Chelsea 2 Bolton 2 Pleeeeeese God

Dec 29, 2010 at 10:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterWisky Tom

Wisky Tom...If you want a draw between Chelsea and Bolton, would't nil nil be better ?
Personally I hope the blue scum get soundly thrashed.....unlikely though that is.
And to several others.......Jenas.....good grief.
My recollections of him are firstly, passing back to Gomes from about 40 yards as an opening contribution...
fannying around in midfield towards the end and losing possession instead of passing
and somewhere inbetween, running forwards with the ball (at last) and shooting wide.
A few goals against the arse..as welcome as they were..just don't warrant a place in todays squad...
In my humble Jenarse hating opinion !

Dec 29, 2010 at 6:30 PM | Unregistered Commentershelfsidemark

It was never going to be 0-0 - was it? Didn't want Bolton getting three points - so had a bet on 2-2
