Let's be 'aving some of that Glory Glory
Three key elements for tonight's game.
1) Forget about Saturday
2) Don't get complacent
3) Do not under estimate the opposition
Stick all of the above together with some glue made up from a paste of swagger and belief.
A win would see us qualify. Imagine that, through the group stages at the first time of asking in our début season. Fully deserved that would be too what with our refreshing approach, whether it's dismantling the opposition or giving them a head start - we've left our mark all over the competition. The scratches made hardly the ones of cowboys. These Spurs are real.
Bremen are struggling, which is why it's key to be focused completely on treating the opposition with a degree of respect and not allowing them take a cheap early lead which could easily allow their confidence to breed. Their league form might be woeful as of late (6-0, 4-0 defeats), but I still say - be cautious. Sometimes an escape from domestic hell can be the perfect remedy for a home headache.
Having said all that, I don't want to be over-bearing with the negativity (thinking the worst). I'm just weary that there is a twist and turn wherever Tottenham ply their trade. Not too much respect then.
Opening 20 minutes will tell us how we should compete in the remaining 70. I might have it all wrong, the Germans might be as bad as their bread and butter results which means we could well be in for a party as we march onwards. Let's just wait for the invite to be handed out before we pop the streamers.
One party that will no doubt start before the kick-off is in the stands. The atmosphere will be electric, he said. Yes it will, they replied. Another Glory Glory night within our grasp, the home support will still be buzzing from the dicking handed out to them lot down the road. That should aid with the expectancy on the players shoulders, who should not be weighed down with pressure. This position we are in, it's a good one and should be enjoyed.
We're a decent side, more than decent, who have already displayed the balls and guile to be rewarded with a potential knock-out gem of a tie in the next round. Let's prove how deserving we are. And Harry along with the leadership and tenacity of our unofficial captain of galvanisation (van der Vaart) are taking us forward with the rest of a rather sparkling supporting cast. No knees are trembly here.
The attitude has to be right from the off. Whether we fight it out or brush them aside, this is another potential history-making night. You can't help but feel giddy with excitement. One player to keep an eye on is Jermaine Defoe who has told us countless times how the hairs on the back of his neck would stand when listening to the CL music whilst watching it at home. That was when Spurs were dreaming about playing at this level. We now are and JD gets his chance to shine in the group stage.
Fingers crossed Bale and the Raf are available to start. Another Interesque performance in terms of application and focus will have me queuing up at the Spurs Shop for the dvd 'Group A' highlights package post-final whistle.
We want 90 minutes, not a cameo of 45.
So, no after the Lord Mayors Show reverse hang-over from Prem to Europe please Tottenham.
To dare is to f*cking do.

If we win it will give us a great opportunity to concentrate solely on the league and perhaps give a few squad players some CL experience in the last group game and it will be something that the scum next door could not achieve!! Looking up with JD back, Dawson to start training and someone looks to have finally fixed Woodgate!! Lets stuff some Germans and then as Spooky said concentrate and kill some Scousers on Saturday…COYS
I would like to see Spurs get through this encounter with having to field VDV or Bale. Have them on the bench but lets grab the win out of the squad. Eyes focussed on delivering the result at Liverpool.
Very relevent and good article.
I agree wholeheartedly with the writers comments. The team needs to understand that they are dependent on the collective contribution of individual players. We cannot accept a few to carry the entire team oh their shoulders.
You are capable of beating any team , so do it tonight . The added advantage is that you are playing with 12 players & at WHL
I do believe if i'm not mistaken, that if we qualify for the knockouts tonight that we would be the first club to do so at the first time of asking in a debut season, correct me if i'm wrong, I might of made that up, I do that a lot.
Lifts my spirit to read your articles. Tonight will be Lilywhite!
100% in agreement professional performance from 1 to 11 for 90 mins! Loving the big mid week games this season. I think we'll win tonight and hopeful time enough to rest a few as Sunday's game against the scouse is huge. They are a fading force but have been heavily criticised but will want to make a statement. Let's not kid ourselves they have palyers that can hurt us and it wad this game last year that started the whole rollercoaster of a ride we're currently on. Hopefully tonight's game will have prevented or delayed the celebrations from Saturday's momentous win and we can put some decent results together and maintain the challenge on both fronts.
I Think Redknapp will go with little and large tonight and rest VDV for the weekend if he's not 100%.
COYS
Win (and clean sheet) please.
Brilliant stuff as ever Spooky. COYFS
wrong donny!! eyes must be firmly focused on tonight. what a fantastic achievement to qualify for the knockouts, with a game to go as well, if we can do that. winning the group will make a real difference, so a win tonight is a must. Taking our eye off the ball will be a big mistake. we are not definitely through yet. we lose tonight, then we face a very difficult trip to twente who could nick our spot in the nx round by beating us regardless of their result tonight. lets get the job done now, and do it in some style!
4) 4-4-2
I don't want us to take the same risks as the other lot. Don't play Bale and Vdv if there are any injury risk ! These germans are down to bare bones, 11 first teamer out. Almeida and Marin on the pitch. Lets face it. We could play Kranjcar and Charlie tonight ! COYS!
We need to stick 3-4 past this lot tonight.
I bet it's 4-5-1 tonight. vdV off the front man. Gonna be a cracker. Keep talking about momentum don't we so add this one and the game against Liverpool on the weekend and our season might be about kick start.
Good point about keeping focussed and motivated. A wounded animal is always more dangerous than one pompously celebrating their achievements after leading at half time. The CL is their one hope after effectively dropping out of a chance for the Bundesliga title and after two horrific results in the league, their focus will be on tonight. THIS is their final - tonights display and result will show a lot about our character and title aspirations.
And a win for them will probably see them improve domestically.
Hope our lot show up. For us it's also not about this one game it's about building on the last. COYS.
Big Fish "Win (and clean sheet) please."
What more do you want, the Moon on a stick? Lets not ask for too much now!
The Moon on a stick......what I'd give for one of them!
Yeh - much of the same, rather than same old same old...leaving it all to do at FC20..... Oh fcuk! That's it - isn't it, surely not God? Not another 'biggest game of our lives'
Anyone heard the news in from germany.....VdV has been pillow talking... I have the transcript
Toen ik terug naar Duitsland ik ben echt benieuwd naar het eten van een sappig * Hamburger .... yum yum
I'm gutted
Bremen have conceeded 21 goals in 7 Bundesliga away games this season. I like that.
As I said before this has the makings of the Wigan game about it...
Realy hope I'm wrong...
According to reports, a lot of their starters are out due to injuries... but we shouldn't believe them now, should we? We just need to take it to them the same way we delivered the blow to Inter. Come to our grounds on Glory Glory Nights? Ka-pow! Bam! Shazaam!
Spooky, you need the job as "hype man" in the locker room. If you can regurgitate half of what you type out on here, you could be an instant success with the players!
Haha Tom , that does not make sense in dutch at all but i think i know what you put in google translator ...
Van der Vaart just being polite.
What's he supposed to say when a German interviewer says
'Do you ever see yourself coming back to Hamburg one day Rafael?'
'What that crap bunch of down and outs, you're havin a laugh'
Put that in your Google translator.
Spooky what are you on?
Your either going to explode with sheer pride and excitement or deflate like a party ballon with disappointment if it all goes egg shaped.
Sorry but I have a good feeling about this one.
As MrsJimmyG2 said 'Is that wise?'
Put it to bed, lay it to rest and then we can all get on with whatever it is we all do between matches.

To get us warmed up.
COME ON YOU FUCKING SPURS
I hope we win - and I think we will. But there is an eerie parallel between this Werder team and Wigan at the end of August - Wigan managed to beat us 1-0 at the Lane on the back of an 0-4 (v. Blackpool) and an 0-6 (v. Chelsea)...
Of course this means absolutely nothing :) YID ARMEH!
1851: BREAKING TEAM NEWS
There is no Rafael van der Vaart (ankle) in the Tottenham , but Gareth Bale (shoulder) is fit to start against Werder Bremen.
Straight 4-4-2 for us tonight, Pav & Crouch up front, Defoe on Bench!
pav is just not a natural goalscorer, he looks completely uncomfortable with the ball. waste of space
Holy ice-cold composure, Batman! What a goal from Modric! Flashback to Berbatov in his heyday. Even watching this on the computer, I'm getting chills of joy!
Hmm, half time and we're 2 - 0 up. How Werder must be wishing that Arsene was delivering our team talk right now.
Come on Spurs, don't fuck it up now whatever you do.
Bale. Mortal.
Killjoy, yeah, that's a bit of buzzkill ;>
What the fuck is he doing taking penalties?!? Has he got a bet on with Harry that he can reach the 10 goal mark before December?
Transfer Bale, the useless git.
Send him to Notts Forest.
About bloody time the 3rd went in.....
Bet we still manage to concede one.......
"Are you Arsenal in disguise?"--nice!
We're through! Gomes had an easy game tonight, but a clean sheet is always good.
Easy wasn't it. Into the next round before the scum. Gotta laugh at that.
We won!!!
Note to naysaying pundits in the football press (to paraphrase Maradona):
To those who did not believe: now suck [our] d**k - I'm sorry ladies for my words - and keep on sucking it. I am either white or black. I will never be grey in my life. You treated me as you did. Now keep on sucking d**ks. I am grateful to my players and to the [yids]. I thank no one but them. The rest, keep on sucking d**ks."
Bring on Littlepool.
another fluke, uv had an easy group so dont get carried away, enjoy it while it lasts yidscum, wait until u come up against some real champions league pedigree! twats
Do one spawny cunto. Suddenly it's an easy group, wasn't easy when you scummers were telling us we'd get humiliated. Into the knock-outs at the first time of asking. Took you lot a few seasons that. Anyways nice of you to pop in to say hi. Is this what you've become now? Trolling for scraps on a Spurs blog? My my how the mighty have fallen.
lolololololololololololololololololol
Someone remind me what Arsenal have achieved exactly in Europe?
Fuck all.
Professional done by Spurs tonight. Chuffed.
*Professionally.
Nice trolling from the pikey. Arsenal fans moving the goal posts every single time Spurs move forwards. Fucking gold.
Excellent display by the boys tonight. Glad we rested Rafa.
