Lucky escape

There was an article the other day about Harry's opinions on young footballers which wasn't too dissimilar to one published several months back (probably was a repeat). The jist of it being how easy young footballers have it, and how egotistic some of them become in terms of making assumptions they've 'arrived'.

Was Harry talking about John Bostock? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Might have just been a generalisation  but it's interesting that he cited agents calling up Levy demanding to know why their clients were not playing first team football.

You know the drill. If you're half decent, you can bag yourself a contract for 3k - 10k per week as a mere teen or twenty-year old and five years of that might possibly turn you into self-absorbed git who can't be arsed to train properly or show determination to succeed and basically think easy street equates to automatic selection. Not that I'm suggesting Bostock is the person Harry referred to in the interview.

And this article is nothing to do with John - who I'm really hoping comes good for us.

This article is about a certain Adel Taarabt. You remember him right? He's the one with fancy tricks and step-overs and dribbles that had the giddy part of your soul fooled. Yes, there are plenty of us that made the embarrassing error of thinking this kid had the right qualities to make it. Until slowly slowly we worked out he might have had the mad skillz but not the temperament or patience or the humility to be respectful.

"He's raw, he needs to play more, he's got the talent, yadda yadda yadda"

Sadly he's turned out to be nothing more than superfluous. As someone (Enter the Pitbull)
over at Glory Glory put it, Adel is the African Lee Trundle. His level, it seems, the Championship.

He's in the news for quitting International football (Morocco - he didn't consider himself good enough or want to prove himself good enough for France) because they disrespected him. Now I know that quotes can be lost in translation and taken out of context but it's highly laughable regardless. He now gets to concentrate on QPR, because he spent 22 hours on planes travelling and wasn't selected to play. Because you know, he's got to continue to raise that profile for his move to Madrid in the summer.

What an absolute melter.

Quality.

I'd watch a sitcom with Adel in it. He'd turn up at Zidanes home and give him his marching orders declaring squatters rights.

Taraabt looks like the type of guy who has the "Brian Clough symptom" lurking somewhere inside of him. He probably just wants QPR to make the Premier League so he can play against us and attempt to win.

Did somebody say "pschoooooooooo"?

He is useless, doubt the Championship is his level though, watched him play Friday night and he was by far the worst player on the pitch, I also got the feeling that all the other QPR players had a real disliking of him

Young players really are too big for their boots. I heard that 17 year old Josh McEcrand (sp?) turned up to Chelsea the other day in a brand new top of the line range rover neglecting to remember that he doesn't currently have a driving license!
You often hear harry harking back to when young players used to clean 1st teamers' boots and do all the shit jobs at the club. He's been here long enough now I wonder if he could impliment this sort of thing or will Levy not allow it as we're too far gone? I'd welcome it to be honest.

When they get promoted I can see him playing one season in the EPL with them and then either be sold to a foreign team or go back to the Championship if that's where QPR end up.

The odd piece of magic doesn't make a footballer.

Just look at the likes of Steve Sedgley, Paul Allen, Robbie Savage etc. Maybe not born with the skills of Taarabt but worked hard enough on their game so people like me will remember their names long after their retire.

Fox, if that was the case none of them would want to sign for us if they could get an easy ride elsewhere. Although we shouldn't want them if that is their attitude to be honest......

Also, you have to remember all these brats have leeches (sorry agents) that push them to buy Cars & Watches as they tell the clients they can get a discount and act if they are getting them a good deal when in reality they have a contract with car dealers etc that gives them commission on every car they get a client to buy

His comments were a joke.

Shown his true colours now, and deserves all the hating he gets.

£1m? Well shot.

I reckon the end for GDS too. We get injuries who would you rather have on the pitch Krankie or GDS. Sorry but I know who I'd depend on more.

With reference to John Bostock and his apparent bloated opinion of himself, I vividly remember meeting the guy after a youth match at Plymouth Argyle a couple of seasons ago and was amazed by his attitude towards the press and people wishing to shake his hand and ask a few reasonable questions. Thought then we have a bit of a diva on our hands and can fully understand why Arry would be more than pissed with this guy's attitude to football and life in general.

Good read Spooky

Barcelona wanted to buy me and Tarabt. Then they realised neither of us are professional footballers.....

He will be signed and put to good use by Madrid. I hear knows how to serve some wicked mint tea, he just looks a bit off putting in a maid's outfit.

I'd watch an Adel sitcom that involved us resigning him on a 5 year contract, then refusing to play the bugger. We could loan him out to a League 2 team, get him to do some stepovers and tricks for the crowd at half time, and one of the episodes could be where he finally gets on the bench, then when it looks like he's about to get on the pitch, we put Cudicini on in the midfield instead... Cue close up of his disgusted face and the ensuing infantile strop.

Here's a good interview with Gomes talking about a much more sensible (I only hope it lasts) young man

It is a shame a boy with so much raw talent failed to humble himself to get the best out of what God gave him. The sad part is he doesn't realize the world owes him nothing so he continues to live life with a chip on his shoulder thinking he is better than what he really is.

Anyone with two or more "A's" in their name always highly suspect IMO. Adel Taarabt. Arsenal. Chalsea. Manchaster Unitad. Real Madrid. Dimitar Berbatov. Michael Carrick. etc etc

Eeer Oldspur....Gareth Bale....Van Der Vaart.....ummm....minor flaw there old boy

Oct 27, 2010 at 11:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterMattyboy

Anyone Dutch is exempted because their brains are so addled with dope and porn they have trouble spelling. Bale's Welsh, so has to be cut a bit of slack. Deserves sympathy being saddled with a name like Gareth anyway.
