You'll always find you can't smile without Tottenham

Can't even begin to describe the feeling. Schoolboys own stuff.

No disrespect to Young Boys, Bremen and Twente. Wednesday's game away to Inter in the San Siro is what it's all about. Sure, we can afford to lose it. So if that's the case, what is there to fear? Bit of dignity if we ship a few at the wrong end perhaps, but I'm not talking about the necessity to go all la-la land with tactics. Play for each other, as a strong unit, play to our strengths. Focus. No shame in losing to the Champions of Europe. But what a dvd it would be if we nicked it.

Rafa might try to get a little too clever what with his experience of Spurs in the Premier League. If Crouch starts will be very interesting to see how Inter plan to deal with him, considering Rafa knows the player well. What we could do without is the lack of mental strength if we do happen to hiccup (no first half V Young Boys, no second half V Bremen). Just ninety minutes of cohesive, structured football with a touch or two of ye olde Spurs magic. Tasty team is Inter, they will no doubt have a go at us. So f**k it. Have a go back.

Not dismissing a controlled, deep laying defensive minded midfield (players tracking back, chasing down the ball), pressuring their players when off the ball, attempting to retain it when on it. I'm all for frustrating them, but let's not pretend they don't have the better more experienced players.

Our power is one of belief and complete and unequivocal front.

Fortes fortuna adiuvat.

This is the thing about us. Expect the unexpected, even though the most obvious is also likely to happen too. Never a boring second supporting this club. Heads up. I'm giddy with delight. That Crouch header at Eastlands...it's brought us here. Why bite your nails? Enjoy it.

It's enough to make me break out in song...

We have no King or van der Vaart and I'm scared that we'll get stuffed
Enough to drive the fans to drink I don't want us to f**k up
But I have faith in Harry cause Spurs are on the up
On the up in the San Siro

But you will always find him twitching on the bench in the dugout

Me and the Park Lane shrugged when Rafael saw red at home
Don't fret we've got Jermaine Jenas so we are not all alone

Jermaine Jenas. What is he supposed to do?

That's why you'll always hold your head in your hands at matches
You will always hold you head in your hands at matches
You will always hold you head in your hands at matches

No Ledley but we've got Gallas and he'll play at the back
He'll have Eto'o in his back pocket there's no chance he'll ever slack
Leaving Hudd to quarterback the midfield and enjoy a Big Mac

Glory glory night in Europe in Italy on Wednesday
Glory glory night in Europe in Italy on Wednesday

4-5-1 don't laugh at it we won't be sitting back
We'll look to strike and run the flanks giving Rafa a panic attack

Just give the ball to Bale in the San Siro on Wednesday
Give the ball to Bale in the San Siro on Wednesday

You'll always find you can't smile without Tottenham
You'll always find you can't smile without Tottenham

Based on You'll always find me in the kitchen at Parties (Jona Lewie), obviously.

Welcome back.

451, Crouch up top, Hudd and Modric in the middle with Bale on the left and Jenas on the right. That'll do me.

Spooks, you are the best. I'm going to enjoy this match, win loose or draw because 'You'll always find you can't smile without Tottenham'.

Got to be Bale on the left, Lennon on the right, Hudd holding mid spraying balls to both wings why not Kranjcar and modric linking up with Crouchie? sounds good to me either way lets take it to them non stop !!!
Anyone got a web link for a lost soul "down under" COYS

Great stuff, as always. But one thing keeps bugging me. Why does everyone keep calling Inter's ground San Siro, when it should be the Guiseppe Meazza? San Siro does have a better ring to it, i must admit. Looking forward to seeing the lads giving it a go anyway!

Fortes fortuna adiuvat = Fortune-tellers in forts add VAT

A strange motto going into tonight's game, but let's run with it anyway.

Oct 20, 2010 at 6:27 AM | Unregistered CommenterOldSpur

Think lennon/hutton is a big risk on right. For this game would go back to lennon/charlie if he has his mojo back or jj/hutton for first 60/70 mins, with lennon as impact sub. If Wilson is in any sort of form I'd play him and tell him to stop Sneijder supplying Etoo. Krankie as a sub (sorry).

Oct 20, 2010 at 7:23 AM | Unregistered Commenterleonardo

Buzzing for this. Still think we might lose, but just, and with no harm done to confidence. Think we might get unstuck towards the final 20.

I'd also start Pav over Crouch. Think Rafa will do his work on our lank and I don't want us lumping it forward for ninety minutes. Start with Roman, bring on Peter later on.

Oct 20, 2010 at 8:11 AM | Unregistered Commenterelwehbi

How can you possibly define if Wilson is in any form? I'd play him but that in itself if a monster risk because we have no idea whether he will perform. I guess games like this are the types that can re-invent players and regain loss confidence. Palacios has to turn it around at some point and tonight might be the making of him.

Oct 20, 2010 at 8:17 AM | Unregistered CommenterJep

Morning to one and all.

2-1 Spurs. I have a feeling that we're going to be surprised this evening.

Oct 20, 2010 at 8:17 AM | Unregistered CommenterThe Machine

They dismantled the Germans with comparative ease. Don't think we'll be a soft touch. Spurs under-perform or fail to turn up in patches against teams they are MEANT to beat (Young Boys anyone?). Don't think they'll be stage fright either. We'll be well pumped up for this. Would also opt from Jenas and Hutton down the right hand side. Far more solid. You know JJ will cover every blade of grass tonight. And Hutton, as long as there is discipline. Lennon off the bench sounds like a plan to me.

Today is my B-Day. Thank you, thank you. ....
I am a humbled man with a modest B-Day wish….. that Rooney soon quit the Red Nose's squad and decide to wear lilywhite jersey.

Jenas, our saviour. He'll be out to impress Inter no doubt. Push through that Jan window transfer to Milan.

Oct 20, 2010 at 9:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterOops

It was Jose who wanted Jenas although in reality he didn't he just told a broadsheet that JJ would make his fantasy football team and yet here we are 2 years later and the press are still printing the same old tired bullshit.

JJ will be key tonight. He'll be full of energy, I think most if not all our players will want to impress. Big stage needs a big team to compete against an even bigger team.

OZSPUR, try this link http://www.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports they usually have all the games. It's worth joining the Sopcast version as they have better transmissions.

Re: the game, I don't really know much about Inter except that they lost their main asset at the end of last season when Jose went to Real Madrid. I've only seen Eto'o, Sjneider? and Macon play and yes they are great players but I know nothing about the rest of them. I hope that our boys just believe in themselves and play without fear. If we try to use typical CL tactics of contain for the first 20 minutes and hit them on the break, I don't think we will ever break out.

Whatever happens, well done to Harry and the lads for getting us this far.

That Ikea advert has so much more meaning now.

Oct 20, 2010 at 9:55 AM | Unregistered CommenterKilljoy

lol @ simon - new slogan for bale.......

Bale - puts the L in BAE......lol

Ok so inter - away - as such we will definitely see a 451 but I think having krancjar and modders in the same team would be too attacking for an away game of this magnitude. Because that means having only thudd as a holding midfielder which will be more like 4141. We'd get slaughtered! The only other way to accommodate krancjar is to move him out to the left and have bale as LB which just isn't even worth thinking about as we will need his pace on the counter. It'd be a waste. So I can see our midfield being the obvious bale; jenus; modders; thudd; lennon. With modders supporting crouch. Whatever happens though I will be enjoying this game, win loose or draw just like the rest of you. And make us proud those who are lucky enough to go, I want to hear you non stop for 90 mins! COYFS!!!!

DaveK....Thanks for the link, just discovered ESPN are gonna show it live at 0230hrs so I will save your info for another time

Like your comment, lets go balls out at them so they know they have been in a game

Oct 20, 2010 at 10:04 AM | Unregistered CommenterOzSpur

Oh and I think 3 players in particular will have a point to prove tonight, one of which probably won't feature though. Jenus over the transfer rumours, crouch to benitez and a certain mr keane to benitez and inter. Wouldn't that be an amazing story, if he were to come on late on and score the winner for us reignite his form and go on to score 30+ goals for us this season. lol I am a dreamer!

Oct 20, 2010 at 11:14 AM | Unregistered CommenterStarsky

Chewbacca has not been registered for the CL squad.

Keane to score tonight.........seriously I reckon its a good bet......stranger things have happened.

Even though he is an unprofessional cunt

Oct 20, 2010 at 11:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterTomtraubert

Keane wont even get on the pitch. I can see a very brave fight but with their experience I think they will nick it 2-1.

They are the Champions, so they obviously have plenty of winners nouse about them, and Rafa Beni, shit as he is, he knows how to play this CL stuff.

Whatever the result, we'll have something to talk about tomorrow for sure. Take it away Barry Manilow.....

Oct 20, 2010 at 12:09 PM | Unregistered CommenterStarsky

Off topic, but Harry is in the papers talking about challenging for the title if we get a world class striker and central defender. There's a world class striker available in January who would fit right in with Defoe and Crouch. Time to break the bank? Can't see it happening, but what a coup that would be!

On topic, I fancy us to take the lead and end up with a narrow defeat, but hope i'm right about the first thing and wrong about the second. A draw would be fantastic. We're gonna score though. COYS!

Oct 20, 2010 at 4:25 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

I have ABSOLUTELY no idea why.. but I am making it a point to get that track as my new ringtone - hahahaha it's so incredibly boring, in a catchy way. I like when he suddenly gets animated at the end. ????? Only you, Spooky...

On the game, I believe players in poor form should never start and I was happy to see Harry use this to great effect with Lennon. Modric - poor form, losing balls right and left. He should come in from the bench until he improves, he almost cost us a goal against Fulham. Hutton is not ready to face a team like Inter.
Please Harry -

Charlie Gallas Bassong BAE
Hudd Jenas(Man Mark Sneider)
Lennon Kranjcar Bale
Crouch

Modric, Hutton, Pav, Sandro to come on as needed. I predict 0-0.

Oct 20, 2010 at 4:32 PM | Unregistered CommenterNochman

I'll be on at 6.30. Look forward to it spooky.

Oct 20, 2010 at 4:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterMattyblamblam

Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but think our defence is too suspect. Disco Benny, Bassong, Gallas and Hutton - just not strong enough to cope with Eto IMO.

Hope I'm proved wrong though.

Oct 20, 2010 at 5:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterHOT SPURS

Sandro isn't registered for the Champs League so he won't be playing. He can be registered in January if we're still in it by then!
