Chimbonda gone - Was he ever 'here'?

Pascal Chimbonda has joined Blackburn Rovers for around £2M (according to the SSN ticker). Re-signed by us as cover, he hardly got a look in which does make me question the ethics of the transfer in the first place. He's a right-back than can play centre-back and at a push (a big push) can also slot into the left-back position (just not that well). And yet we hardly saw anything of him when he made his return from Sunderland.

I guess he was cover (insurance) that we didn't actually ever have to use. And we have Gareth Bale, Kyle Naughton and if need be O'Hara and Corluka (and even Bassong) to cover if need be in an emergency so he's quite obviously surplus to requirements. Even more so then when he signed for us a second time.

Some of you may even remember the rumour that did the rounds concerning how Sunderland still owed us the transfer money (or part of it) from signing Shimbo and that we then wrote it off by taking the player back for nothing. Regardless, it's proved to be a massive waste of time.

Good luck up there. Do try and turn up for Big Sam's training sessions.

Elsewhere, Osman Chávez is on trial. Honduran centre/fullback that our very own Wilson rates (and suggested we take a look at). He's 25 years old, has played for his country (20 caps) and his nicknamed 'El Tierno' (which translates as 'The Tender'). I'm guessing that's one of those ironic nicknames, much like us christening Palacios as 'The Gentle'. Might turn out to be shrewd signing this (with Kings long standing knee troubles and Woody/Dawson both on the sidelines). Of course, it's dependent on how impressive he is during the trial. Fingers crossed.

Other bit of news concerns an alleged bid for Internacional defensive midfielder Sandro Ranieri. Not heard of him? He's the U-20 Brazil captain and meant to be pretty tasty. Solid with the tackles and strong with great technique - he might be that extra bit of steel required. No idea how good his creative skills are. If true, then it looks like we've given up on Sissoko.

Under a week to go now before the window closes. Looks like we should expect 2 players at the very least to join. Possibly a 3rd if you fancy taking Pav's words concerning his want for a transfer away at face value. I'm taking it with a pinch of salt mainly because we are treated with Roman's moans every other month. Still, will he actually get a sustained run in the team to prove himself a £14M player? You can understand why he would want to leave if he's going to sit on the bench unless a key player picks up an injury. Does mean we need to look at a 'back up player' for that 4th striker place.

Any ideas?

Hold on. Need more salt.

Apparently we're linked with Mandzukic (scored against England last year) if Pav leaves.

Also I heard that Sandro is part-owned by a third party, in which case I would advise them to cancel asap. I don't trust any of that third party ownership business one bit. I can just imagine it coming back to bite us like the Tevez deal did to West Ham, only this time them saying 'well you should have learned from West Ham's mistakes, heres a ten point penalty'

That would not be cool.

Pav is a class act and should be in the starting line up alongside JD. He looked very sharp pre season after having a well deserved and much need break. We will regret selling this guy so please give him a chance Harry and stop loving Robbie so much because he is very ordinary IMO.

Tender; A railroad car attached to the rear of a locomotive and designed to carry fuel and water. A player in the style of Didier Deschamp then?

Sandro? Surely he can't be any worse than that last two outifeld Brazilians to sign for Spurs, the grossly inappropriately named Rodrigo Defendi or the plain shit as shit can be Gilberto.
Looks like they want silly money for him anyway, so thats unlikely to happen.
Chimbonda blew his hand when he stropped off down the tunnel after being substituted in the victorious Carling Cup final in my book. Shan't be missed, long since has his ship sailed. Blackburn's about his standard.

Our transfer policy needs to be looked at ok Chimbo is surplus to requirements and we should look to sell but he is wanted as a replacement for Warnock who will go to Villa so yet again we will assist rivals in strengthening their squads. I agree Pav looked sharp after his break and needs a chance personally I think he is better than 3mp and may be an option instead of pointy shouty bloke to partner JD. feels good to be at the top enjoying it while it lasts would be dream come true if there or there abouts in 35 games time

Pass the Salt and Pepper. A winning streak? We obviously needed a shake up. We still need to strengthen. We've got 35 games and a couple of cup runs to go.

tender in spanish isn´t used like in English in terms of character but in the same sense as a tender leg of lamb.

Don´t know why that´s his nickname though!

the timing of pav has been the problem.....this would be his first season wth a break in the summer to be fresh

the games may balance out the selection.....will we regret selling .i think we are not in europe this year ....but the world cup is a year too early....he hasnt had a real test in the games so far .....u cant drop defoe ..........doncaster game may help.......u can only wish the best for him whatever happens

JGT, Gomes was 3rd party owned - a very popular thing in South America apparently - and his transfer was sorted out OK. As much as Levy is a muppet, he knows how to sign a player so if Harry is interested then we'll get him.

We are not West Ham when it comes to the finer details of transfers.

When we signed Chim we were in a relegation battle and in the end we were fortunate that King was able to play as many games and that we did not suffer any further injuries otherwise Chim would have played more as Harry clearly didn't rate Gunter. We probably got a couple of million from Sunderland and the same from Blackburn which if roughly what we paid for him..I dont think bringing him back was a terrible decision but I personally would have brought back Stalteri!!! :o)

This forth stirker siutation has always been a headache because you can never keep them all happy but sods law dictates that if you go with 3 you will get 2 injuries! Tell Pav to shut up, work hard and wait for his chance.

We need to keep Pav; adds depth to our striking unit...

Does anyone know if there is a live feed of the match @ Doncaster?

COYS!!!!!

gomes was third party owned ? He was PSV owned wasn't he ?

But in fact this kind of thing happens a lot in South America , we deal with that on a regular basis and it's always a bit delicate because it is never very clear who has te rights to what ...

Aug 26, 2009 at 1:32 PM | Unregistered Commenterbelgian spur

ow yeah , and keep Pav , he will be great now that he has had the time to adapt

Brazil U-20 captain? Supposed to be a bit tasty? Hmmm... been here before with supposed U-21 France captains and Best Young Player In the Bundesliga. Bit of a gamble as to whether he'd settle although he'd have Gomes to hang out with. I'm all for getting tried and trusted and building on what we've got as opposed to taking expensive gambles.

I hope Wilson knows a good player when he sees one and isn't just sorting his mate out. What am I saying? Wilson's a gent. Good opportunity for a 'Love me Tender, love me do' chant if it works out.

javier saviola would be a shrewd 4th striker for you, or maybe even (fat) Ronaldo or (alchoholic) Adriano

A plane with skates would be good for you, Surrey United supporter.
