Losing to Utd, again

First it's Paul Barber, leaving us for the MLS. And now John Alexander, our club secretary, on his way out of White Hart Lane to pastures new. That's Manchester United, where all things Spurs end up, eventually. Daniel Levy's inner circle is in a state of flux. If you're wondering what John did, I'll let the boys and girls over at GG educate you on why this is a loss (although personally for John, its hard for him not to move on, as with Barber he's a career man). In a nutshell, Alexander is considered one of the best. Even if he's part of the furniture that you don't ever really find yourself sitting on, without it, the room is not complete.

Over the past 25 years Spurs have had the best secretaries in the league, Peter Day, Peter Barnes and John Alexander. Peter Day was head Hunted by the FA, Peter Barnes moved to West Ham and now we are on the verge of losing John Alexander.

The role of club secretary in very in depth. like the nerve centre  on a day to day basis of running the club. the responsibility of contracts, banned players notification to FA of bookings and discipline records. Application for work permits, visas for travel and the arrangements for overnight hotel stays for the team when playing away games. I can personally vouch for these three as very hard working people.

He is quite simply the best club secretary around...involved in pretty much everything which has seen us behaving like a top 4 club despite only having a 36,000 seat stadium and never having been in the Champions League...those manc bastards!!! they did this once before to our backroom staff, the chap's name slips me, but he was our marketing/merch chap in the early to mid-90s. he's the one who was seen as being responsible for building them into a true global brand and he revolutionized merching of stuff with those megastores. that would've been us...

Big loss this. Levy's inner circle for the past few years has been Alexander, Barber and Collecott. Alexander is also the 4th person who sits on infamous 'gang of four' transfer committee. Very well liked and hugely respected by all accounts.

The question (the obvious one) being asked is whether Alexander is going to take with him intimate knowledge of all our players contracts - and clauses - to a club that picks off our best players every couple of seasons. Knowing Levy (not personally, the court order would never allow it) I'm hoping that there are one or two legal stipulations that would protect us - but then again, Alexander is leaving us for a new job. Other than gardening leave, which he wont be on, there is next to nothing we can do if he wanted to share any information about the club.

Modric to Utd then. Done and dusted.

Yes, he is a loss. But this thing about losing players due to him is nonsense. Berba and Carrick did not move to ManUtd due to someone at Utd who was at Spurs. They were fine players and Fergusan was clearly after them. the agents clearly played a big role too. And they wanted to move. By how much percentage do you think that someone would move due to John Alexander. I would say 5% max. Now if harry were to move to Man Utd then maybe I would worry a bit more....

Does that mean there's a job going at the Lane? My job is so boring and I guess I'd get some sort of discount on season tickets. Where do I apply?

ABE, Spooky is just joking. Others are knee jerking and sticking 2 and 2 together to get 6. I doubt Alexander will take any info to him from Spurs to United. Fact is if Utd want any of our players, all they need to do is tap them up via the The Sun.

The only solution to not being treated like second-class citizens is to qualify for the CL.

Bingo. Once we make it into the CL proper then we'll be bullying one or two. Especially post-planning permission accepted.

It's not so much the loss,as Levy's 'ability to replace' and is reknowned 'judgement of character' in making senior appointments.

I would state the list, but it's too long, and with too many painful memories that makes me shudder still. The one 'good' thing he did was appoint Harry, and the jury's out on him still (well the jury of the fans at least, the other judge and jury won't be heard until the new year).

Oh balls, here comes the helter skelter (not the charles manson variety though, I hope).

I heard Citeh came in for him, but Levy held out and then agreed a transfer of £30m. Job done! He'll go to United and not perform until after next Xmas and then get kicked out....

Stop juicing up whatever the Mancs do. Let them have him. I'm sure we can find another perfectly good secretary without making a mountain out of a molehill. So the guy will go to Manchester and sort out their visas and discipline records. whoop-de-doo. Football is a business and Man U as the worlds biggest club are the top of the the tree, you can't blame the bloke for wanting to better himself. The worst thing to do is to hype up the whole idea that Man U cherry pick from Spurs as their little southern feeder club. I can guarantee there is someone better out there. We'll just hire them instead.

John Alexander has obviously gone to further his knowledge of bribing matchday officials and immigration officers who hand out the work visas. Maybe we should attach a fishing line to him and reel him back in after he's picked up some useful new tricks up north...

Dear Mr. Spooky,
I am one of those huge Daniel Levy fans. I believe in the geezer. But that said, this Manchester United stealing from Spurs thing has to be STOPPED pronto!! I mean, what next ha? They take Lennon and Modric and name us Manchester B?
