Carlo

This made me scratch my head.

"Cudicini's contract, like those of all professional footballers, precludes them from bring involved in any action that could affect their ability to train or play."

Do contracts also include clauses relating to speeding in ridiculously fast sports cars, sometimes when drunk driving into trees/walls or otherwise just falling out of clubs pissed and making a tit of yourself whilst almost getting into a punch-up? I'm going to hazard a guess and say Carlo has been driving a bike for the best part of his life. Accidents happen, however, footballers should be a little more responsible considering that keeping their bones in tact allows them to earn so well. But since when did responsibility and footballers go hand-in-hand?

There was also a mention in some of the reports that Harry and the rest of the squad had no idea he even owned a bike, which means he either just purchased it or he's been secretly parking up half a mile away and then briskly walking into the Lodge letting everyone know he got a lift into work. On the flip side of that, apparently he's been driving his bike to training for months - ever since he's joined Spurs because it's quicker for him to get from Surrey (where he lives) to Chigwell. So the club are aware of his travelling arrangements.

Regardless, as someone else eloquently put it, 'He's taking as much risk as any other biker. No one gets on their bike thinking 'I'll probably crash today, but at least I'm not a footballer'."

Fact remains, if you don't get onto a bike in the first place, then you'll unlikely to be involved in an accident that leaves you with two broken wrists and a broken pelvis. If Spurs knew (or if they didn't) either way, there's pretty much no insurance claim to be had here.

Good luck Carlo, get on the mend and get well soon.

Harry - don't knee-jerk and sign David James.

He's going to use this as an excuse to sign David James, and isn't Carlo's contract up in January?

Carlo's contract is up in Jan. Awful timing for the bloke. Not that its ever a good time to be involved in a car accident. Lucky he hasn't killed himself and at 36, if he has to retire, he'll be happy with his lot.

We need a backup keeper though, and one with experience? Gomes in the Sunderland match was carrying an injury if this gets any worse I dont think Jimmy Walker is the answer...

Hope Carlo is soon on the mend and makes a full recovery - and is offered a new contract as he deserves it!

I'm not criticising Carlo and I wish him all the best but driving your motorbike right the way across London (I thought he lives in Kensigton/Fulham) is a risky affair, however competent you are and Carlo must have taken that risk on board. If you rely on your body/fitness to earn a massive salary it is silly to take risks with it (especially as Carlo already had a back injury). Many footballers with more money than sense have trashed their expensive motors but have normally walked out injury free. I hope the club treat him fairly - transferring him to a private hospital is a good sign - but if his contract is up in the near future I can see them paying it off, then that will be it as far as the club is concerned. It is up to the insurance company whether they pay any claim and on what Carlo earned, surely he had his own insurance/savings. I expect we will sign another keeper, although many clubs have played youngsters when necessary - we have young players like Button and Ranieri who are highly rated, so it would be good to see one of them given a chance - if they are anywhere near ready. James is pointless as far as I'm concerned because he will expect to play, plus he cant have that much longer left at the top.

All this he shouldnt ride a bike cause he uses his limbs to earn his crust (large crust at that!) is bolloxs as all us run of the mill supporters who earn very small crusts in comparison wouldn't be able to work either with two broken wrists & a broken a pelvis would we!

(PS i dont ride a bike myself)

COYS!

He's not the only pro footballer who rides a bike. It's just one of those unfortunute things. Has to happen to someone. Happened to him. Get well soon CC.

Nice bike. At least it was before he smashed it into a Fiesta.

Cheltenhamboy, most of us can do our jobs without being at the peak of physical fitness - many of us could still work with one broken bone. Lots of motorbike riders do so for practical reasons - cant afford a car, no parking space, difficult commute to work, use bike in their job etc. None of these apply to a prem footballer - if a prem footballer is using a 1200 cc bike its because they enjoy going fast. Nothing wrong with that during the summer break on quiet country roads but I drove down forest road on a Monday lunchtime this August and it is a really busy road - anyway dont want to sound like I'm having a go at the bloke, as someone else said its just one of those unfortunate things - I see we are being linked with James already

I'm pretty sure footballers are not permitted to ski or climb up mountains or do anything else where the risk of injury and accident are more likely to occur. Riding a bike through London is pretty stupid, you might do so for 20 years and never have an accident or you can do it for 20 minutes and get killed not because you're careless but because the person who drove into you was not concentrating or simply drove too fast/was drunk/whatever. There's no accounting for when it happens other than - it can happen. And the likelihood is there's more chance if you drive around more often. He should not be riding a bike.

We will be needed a better back up keeper remember Alnwick v burnley last year awful! Not good enough if we going to finish top 6 need experience between the sticks

Can we just have Celtic? I don't like Rangers.

It's a Grand Old team.....

Nov 13, 2009 at 12:11 PM | Unregistered CommenterGrim down South

statistically, it was more likely CC having an accident on the pitch as on his bike.

But the wider issue of what sportsmen/women are allowed or is acceptable to do or BE by employers (see Robert Enke R.I.P) is well worthy of debate..... anyone read the sad case of Paul Vaessen? (and I'm not trying to score cheap points against our north London rivals....... I still can't say or print the name).

I expect that the fiest a is the only one ever to go up in value after the accident.

Maybe the driver should carlo to sign it "I woz 'ere and bounced to 'ere, and ended up 'ere", that would keep the insurance company happy after they auction it on e-bay. after all he still has a fairly loyal chav following, and as we all know there's a few of them who are a bit dumb and who have more money than sense.
