Solidification please

QPR. At home.

Is there really anything more to say than to find a happy medium between the dominant Reading performance and the cohesive one against Lazio and win in bullish, aggressive fashion? Anything more, aside from:

One holding midfielder, not two.

Score an early goal.

Then get another before half-time. At a push a third.

If not a third before half-time, score it within ten minutes of the second half starting.

Kill the game, kill it dead. If they park the bus, slap 'em with a parking ticket then hot wire the sonofabitch and clamp it on the touchlines. It's our back yard, don't allow them to dictate and force us to react in a way not becoming to our preparation. Control equates to tempo which results with initiative. They need to be adapting to us. Our home, our rules. Their struggle.

Take the sting out of the game if necessary in the latter stages. No need to witness the last 20 minutes consisting of nervous dispositional football. Solidification please.

Belief. On the pitch, in the stands.

Home win.

Positivity in blog comment sections and pubs the world over.

Get on it. COYS.

Oh, yes. This got me excited! Let's play the ball, play the ball, play the ball. QPR aint got shit on us. Let's give the lads a warm welcome. We love 'em. They love us. The ramifications of this win will be huge. Let's embrace that wonderful portugese geezer that is AVB. On and up. Coys!

Spookster we need to be more critical in front of goal we can't miss to many chances and personally I don't think we can hold a one goal lead because our defence is not strong enough p.s. I think we need at least two goals to win I hope its not a draw.

Hit them with a parking ticket indeed !

I want us to win so convincingly that we're awarded four points for the win!

QPR have good players. If it clicks for them it could be difficult. This will be a good game to judge Defoe's effectiveness as a lone striker - they've seen him play there effectively, if their management team is any good they will have a plan to deal with him. Will he still have a good game, or did he catch other teams by surprise previously? We also need to find a middle ground between keeping the ball and feeding Bale and Lennon early enough to be effective - Huddlestone could be the key to this if fit.

We are more than capable....

As we saw on Thursday evening against a considerable Italian jugganaut, we still managed to find the net.

Patience is the name of the game with this system, and the goals will come....from any number of players....

Agree with you 100% Spooky, if QPR decide that parking the bus is their best tactical option then ii's vital that we deal with it pronto. I've been encouraged by our efforts on Thursday, we created a decent amount of chances and were very unlucky not to have won. Wet pitch today so that should obviously mean that we need to keep the ball on the floor and deploy a slick passing game.

@hotspur 1981- Love that chant mate! COYS!!!

Sep 23, 2012 at 3:26 PM | Unregistered Commenteraspurusual

Totally agreed Spooky. Hit them and knock them out. Coys.

Sep 23, 2012 at 4:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterSingspur

Lacklustre again. Think Caulker should have started in place of Gallas, Vert at LB and Bale on left wing. QPR bossing it.

Proves you can attempt to predict anything but it never goes as you would like it too. Deserving to be 0-1 at the moment.

Half time boos. Because that really is going to help. Oh, I forget, you have the right to boo.

Let's just refer back to the blogs of 3 weeks ago and save ourselves another mass argument.

A win is a win. I'll take that! Did not see game. How did we play overall?

Sep 23, 2012 at 6:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterGlory

Half time boo's pissed me off. Said to some guy what's the point. And he replied we r not Booing the score line we r Booing the performance, which in there warped mind, makes perfect sense. We didn't play well and didn't deserve to win but who cares? I don't. Fucking stewards telling me to sit down need to sort it out. Next they will ask us to stop singing. That will keep the boo boys happy. Where u at the game today spooky

Sep 23, 2012 at 6:59 PM | Unregistered Commenterluke

Just want to add that I fucking love vertonghen. I had a full blown man crush before we signed him, now I fear if he finds out I've been following him around everywhere and I've built a shrine in his name he might take a restraining order out against me. Super, super Jan. Super, super Jan, super, super Jan. Super Jan vertonghen

Sep 23, 2012 at 7:05 PM | Unregistered Commenterluke

Not a great first half performance I accept that, however, I can't get my head around this booing mentality this needs to stop imo. Villas Boas made the correct changes to the side and we went on to win the game. Cut the guy some slack. Jan Vertonghen, a star in the making, great tackle to prevent the equaliser. We secured the three points, maybe not as solid a display as you referred to in the blog Spooky, but at least we won and there is plenty of room for improvement don't you agree?

TTID!!!!

I will take the win...! We looked incredibly masterful on the break, but why oh why can't we finish it!? And have we forgotten how to pass? How many times did we just give the ball away? This was QPR...AT HOME..., not ManU or Chelsea! Positives: we didn't fold; AVB got the change right after the break; and we didn't fold, we kept pounding away at them. And some great defensive plays (Jan the Man!) As I said, I'll take the win. We look much better than at the start of the season, and we are improving, but still a ways to go...COYS

QPR played well, but that was partly because we had the wrong shape in the first half and AVB corrected this in the second. Next week I think that it might be a good idea to have Caulker and WG in the middle with Vertonghen on the left. Walker will be targeted. Might be a good idea to start with a five-man midfield with Adebayor up front if fit. Well as Defoe has played I think that we would be better off him coming on in the second half. We must not cede position or possession in midfield, which is what happens every time we go there.

What happened to the fans of our club who would still sing thier hearts out regardless of the performance. Thats one of the things that made this club great for supporters. That was the Spurs way to boost the team. We are the 12th man yet we seem to have lost those fans to the boo boys.

Spooky!!! this current preview will keep us all chuckling for a while.. Atleast you got the part of Home win right, eh?
5 matches 8 points.. an Okay start. There's the customary ref. cock-up coming up nxt weekend.. Luckily for AVB, no one expects us to get anything from it. I hope the lack of pressure/expectation helps him set our team up better and nick some result.

Sep 23, 2012 at 11:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpurs4life

Defoe, Bale and Dempsey didnt pass the ball to each other. They are bothering too much to be starters or impress. Poor moments from Walker and Gallas. Sigurdson is expected to be the main passer to rip defences open, he is still adapting. AVB made good subs and Spurs started playing better when there was space on the counterattack. Seems that Spurs does all right when teams are open and there is pace. But when opponents park the bus, there is no plan b. Winning without playing well is also important, otherwise Man United would win nothing! Looking forward to Old Traford! COYS

Sep 23, 2012 at 11:53 PM | Unregistered CommenterFab

With Naughton not fit, Vertongen had to be at LB. Bale is just not a LB any more. At least AVB made the correct changes and with two up front the team looked 100% different to the first half but he should have got that right from the off. He's coaching this team and I could have picked the team he put out in the second half from my computer this morning when I looked at the squad. I cannot pretend not to worry about this 4 2 3 1 system that AVB is prized for. Every team coming to WHL is on to it and run's amok around us. Man U must be rubbing their hands. I absolutely do not accept that it's our new players not blending in yet (or not understanding the system) that's causing the problems, after all Mark Hughs had so many new players playing today and they passed the ball around immaculately. We have this thing, where AVB's new system is supposed to be given time. What the fuck is it thats so difficult with getting this system through to 11 players of his choice. But this booing is cuntish. It has to stop. Have our say, but booing is fruitless.

Nice result today.

To OT...

we are due a result, a Utd game is due some common sense officiating...
...to dare is to...get 3 pts.

Utd. have to run out of referees favour...don't they?

Knocking on the door of fair play at OT?

Sep 24, 2012 at 12:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterKnock Knock Spurs

Some thoughts

1. Finally some common sense tactics, going 442 but I see the bad habits returning. Why take off Dempsey for Huddlestone near the end? Why are we defending a lead at home to QPR?

2. Happy to see youth (Townsend, Caulker) being given a chance. I guess this means curtains for the likes of Jenas Dawson and Bentley. Also good to see Falque on the bench. Special mention to Mason, I've been championing his inclusion for some time, just look at his stats in the junior leagues and it was good to see what he looks like now. Important also that they are being introduced with meaning and purpose ( Lennon now has back up and competition likewise Gallas).

3. We need cover for LB. I was happy to see Naughton there, and have always supported eccentric BAE. Both are sorely missed.

4. Walker needs to sort out his defensive skills otherwise we are stuck with a good MR but bad DR.

5. How good is Friedel? Along with Hugo and Carlo we need not worry much about this area.

6. Defoe looked lost in the first half but proved his worth. Continues to dumbfound me. I think he does not score enough for the chances he gets or against so called weaker opponents but he still scores.

7. Honeymoon almost over. The next few games will either see us push through or regress. Let's see some of the promising youth given a chance in the League Cup. A point against ManU would be good but let's be realistic and see how we go. I fully expect victories for the League Cup and Europa League. We need the confidence boost.

8. I don't approve of booing but I can understand. How else can you demonstrate that 4231 is bizarre given the players we have and that it has easily been sussed out.

Just heard interview with AVB, - saying that he got the team set up wrong for first half !
AVB made the changes for second half and consequently we looked a much better side !
As I said before: Booing ones team is counterproductive !
Do not forget it is work in progress !
Patience required/Keep the Faith

Sep 24, 2012 at 3:51 AM | Unregistered CommenterAllan

Yes, AVB changed it a half time, however he should of changed things within the first 20-25 minutes. We were been overun and completely put on the back foot. QPR came and brought the game to us, we were very lucky to be just 0-1 down at the break. Walker appears to be losing his way. Jan is absolutely immense. Loving Dembelé. An Ugly win is good, a composed win next weekend will be magnificent. COYS

First home win not convincing so should we be excited?
You bet, we`re not even out of the traps yet and only 1 point off scum and citeh.
That is, of course, assuming that we are going to get out of the traps!
How good is Vert? He purrs across the turf life a Rolls Royce. He and Caulker have the look of a classic beauty and the beast partnership.
Then he`s switched to LB and looke even better! Great talent, great football brain.
On the subject of AVB - I don`t think that the basic incompetence of the players in the first half - i.e. failing to control or pass the ball properly - can be directly attributed to the manager`s formation.
Ok he changed it at half time, but even then if Hoillet hadn`t suffered some wierd kind of satellite delay, QPR would have left with a deserved point.
My approach for next weekend will be to treat it like an international break, given recent pain at Old Trafford.
Then again, these jinxes always come to an end at some time.....don`t they?

To all fellow yids I think we can all clearly see that we possess a Worldy in our ranks in Jan the Man.
So I'd like to think we're all agreed that he's worthy of a far better anthem than some of the shockers that were circulating
Around the lane yesterday.i have tried a few of my own half hearted attempts both in pubs and from the stands ,but to no avail so I've come to the conclusion that perhaps I should run it past the spookster and the world famous yid army.
I have posted this tune before and got some positive feedback but not enough to get it ringing round the lane!!!
Here goes-
We signed the boy from Amsterdam ,you know you know
We might score goals from corners now yido yido
And if a gooner tries to pass
He'll put the W****R on his arse
Jan Vertonghen TOTTENHAMS number 5
Na na na na na na na na na na na na etc :)

lol @ all spuds and especially the king of kings of all delusionals spooky , each season in and out saying how will they finish above arsenal but as usual always getting nailed hard by the gunners , but looks like they have learned the lesson from last season and are keeping their mouth shut regading their chances finishing above the 13 times english champions , two reasons for this as now they are using their big mouths to boo their own team hehe and secondly MIND THE GAP fiasco of last year has really made huge painful gaps in spuds backsides ,probably u guys r still hurting from it hehe..

In response to the illiterate "gooner is always right", clearly not when it comes to grammar and spelling! About halfway through trying to penetrate the incomprehensible twaddle in your comments I'm afraid I got very bored and moved onto the next one. Why do you bother us on here? @ JDHignell = Judging by the gooners use of words and sentences such as.....

"Each season in and out saying how will they finish above arsenal but as usual always getting nailed hard by the gunners"....

"MIND THE GAP fiasco of last year has really made huge painful gaps in spuds backsides"....

The terminology seems to strongly suggest that he's in in the closet regarding something else too!!!

may be my english is not that good but surely my geman wud b a lot better than yours , anyways it doesnt matters bcoz the fact stands that spuds will b always in arsenals shadow he hehe he he ...have u all lost belief in your team if not then why not claims that u will finish above us like last season ..loosers..
