Levy Mathematics

Sign a player for £2.5M. Sell him for £7M.

Goodbye Niko, we didn't see enough of you in a Spurs shirt. That wasn't always your own doing. Graceful with flair and wonderful hair. Wasn't to shabby to look at either.

Good luck at Dynamo Kiev.

We'll have to wait and see if Levy has more maddening skills this summer with pulling in more than the £4M he wants for dos Santos and forcing Everton to buy back Pienaar for more than they sold him for.

All more likely than signing a centre-back.

Pozza, you can't compare normal businesses with football clubs.

Businesses exist to make money. Football clubs exist to try to win trophies. I remember Dozell etc. I also remember winning trophies,.do you?

Moe - I agree with you that it was a mistake - that's why I say that if they could have a do-over, it would be the January transfer window. What I was saying was that it wasn't entirely illogical to do what they did. We can't expect either Levy or Harry to be perfect. What I would expect is that they would learn from the mistakes they made - Levy to invest in January if necessary and Harry to rotate a little more when things are going well, not when they start to go pear shaped. I think Levy has shown that he has learned from last season by trying to get Vertonghen done early and hopefully Ade. Now, if we are at the end of July and he's still haggling over pennies and we're playing the first few games with players that have had no chance to fit into the team, I'll join the chorus of detractors, but until then, I think if you consider both Levy's and Harry's bodies of work, they are as good as most Spurs fans can remember. For the record, I give most of the credit to Levy for the team that he's assembled which (as it stands today) is the definitely the best I can remember, but I do believe that if Harry is going to carry the can for the failings, he also has to get some credit for the style of football we've played and our 4th, 5th, 4th finishes.

TMWNN - no, I don't remember winning trophies other than the odd FA Cup when the year ended in 1 - that's kind of my point. I've supported Spurs for the best part of 30 years and I've never seen a team as consistently good as this one. I'm mostly happy. If you're going to compare every team to the double winning team, you're going to be unhappy most of the time.

And I'm sorry, but it is a business - until January, it was a listed business. If you don't make money, you go out of business and you have no team. If you make little money, you can't buy players so I'm glad that Levy is trying to make a profit on every transaction - down the road it will hopefully mean better players or that we hang on to the ones we have.

If stories are to be believed, Levy will play hardball with Luka again this year, and will only sell for top dollar and to a non EPL club. This is great news if true, why should we improve our competitors? I think Levy has done an excellent job, and his handling of the Modric situation so far is a great example of that
