If Carlsberg did transfer windows...
...Tottenham would be barred.
Yesterday Jan Vertonghen was supposedly confirmed as confirmed can be without an official word and practically done and dusted according to Dutch sources. Today? Well today is a different day which means a new set of rules contradicting everything that came before it. The Dutch sources with us much spurt as an empty Ketchup bottle.
Here is the latest information to be shared in the wastelands of Twitter (via @BelgoFoot).
Possibility that will not join #thfc in the summer (sic). Disagreement between player and Ajax. (Voetbalprimeur.be)
Vertonghen says he was promised percentage of fee but Ajax seemingly don't want to pay. Report says his salary was lower than many players.
If he does not move in summer, Vertonghen says he will be happy to join #thfc in a year's time, out of contract.
His argument is with Ajax so won't sign without OK from them. (apparently)
Probably means he's at the Lodge passing his medical as we speak. Well no, he isn't. But at least that's where he would like to be. He wants to join. That's one positive from this messy saga we can embrace and hold onto with dear life. It's extraordinary how with each passing transfer window, everyone seems to be privy to information on prospective transfers but nobody actually knows what is going on.
As for the more important managerial appointment, the continued rumour is that AVB can't sign until July 1st when his contractual obligation with Chelsea supposedly ends.
Nothing is confirmed until said player is holding up the Lilywhite shirt and smiling. Nothing is confirmed until the club call a press conference to reveal the new man at the helm.
Until then, our misery continues.

We'll get there in the end. I've got mixed feelings on Vertonghen, he looks good but I'm a big fan of Kaboul and I've got high hopes for Caulker. Hope those two still get a chance. Anyway looking forward to getting this sorted so we can concentrate on getting a striker and a decent manager.
Jan was interviewed on TV yesterday, apparently quite angry over the delay. Ajax playing hard ball.
He should be getting 15% of the fee but Ajax only wanting to pay him 5%.
"Accepting it would mean Vert needs to pay the manager fee out of his own pocket and letting go of his contract rights"
Ajax really have little choice but to pay up. If it's in his contract and he didn't request a transfer (which usually negates such clauses), then they are legally obliged to pay him 15% or at least come to an agreement. Alternatively they can let him run his contract down and get nothing for him next summer. If the fee is £12 million, then they will still pocket £10 million for him, which is £10 million more than they'll get next year!
Summer really does become silly season at Spurs in terms of transfer rumours and ITK stories. I'd be intrigued to see what kind of ITK stuff bounces around for the other PL clubs.
Kaboul and Caulker and Dawson and Vert(if/when) plus Gallas will all get plenty of football between the League, UEFA and home Cup games and injuries.
Walkerboy - it is the same on twitter / message boards for all clubs. Often the same player.
Quite funny, and sad at the same time.
Is Gallas staying ? Bearing in mind that at end of season we were getting thru CH's like bags of crisps, 5's only just enough.
New manager next week. If AVB can't sign until Sun, gives Dan a week to chat up Blanc. Now that Ragnick's not available, how long can it take to choose between 2 candidates? Unless there are names still to come out the hat. (Please God no...)
Please God not Kermit.
Redknapp reckons he'll be in a job in the next two weeks.... Levy to have a bout of amnesia and re-appoint him in a moment of madness?? ;-p
News articles in UK reporting it's Ajax waiting on Spurs when its the opposite way around.
When I hear Vertonghen I think of the Vortigaunt from Half-Life. Maybe that's what we need in the team...
Vertonghen can cover left back too should BAE get injured (as well as being excellent at CB - gogo Kaboul/Vertonghen partnership!). Danny Rose is simply not good enough even as a back up.
Wouldn't it be worthwhile tapping up any out of contract talent in the The Rangers 2012 F.C. squad and youth teams (there must be a couple ofplayers in there).
I'd agree to splash cash on Vertonghen if the team manager wants him, unless dickhead Levy wants to do it.
I'm hoping Charlie comes back from the German league in the fall. He was an awesome center back for Croatia and backs-up Walker on the right. I actually think that he works better with 'Azza than Walker right did last season. That would mean more depth in the middle and we don't have to worry about finding another RB.
Thought Walker was great last season. HR shouldn't have let VC go on loan - but needed matches to make Croatia Euro squad. Will Kyle Naughton come back to cover KW with VC switching to CH.
Think he will join Bilic if there isn't much prospect of 1st team place.
