AVB and the Spurs striker

AVB: Okay, this is what I want you to do. I want you to go out there and ghost into the channels and pressure their full-back, when you see our attacking player-maker shift towards the penalty area, swap with the left sided midfielder and attack the space directly in front of the attacking midfielder but look at the movement of the left sided midfielder if he attacks the same space as you, cut across the pen area and move at an angle towards the space just outside the six yard box. But not if the right-winger is occupying the same space. If he is, hold back on the edge of the box then move parallel to where the ball is travelling into the box from. Okay?

Spurs striker: <silence>

AVB: Okay?

Spurs striker: Whaaa?

AVB: F*****g run around a bit and kick the ball.

Spurs striker: Yes boss. Gotcha. The ball is the round thing that moves yeah?

Hmmm AVB... Yep, that'd work. We don't have any leaders at Spurs so I son't think there'll be any Chavski style rebellions going on. Unles Gallas wants to sit down and sulk at some point of course, not that he'll be getting many / any games now...

I get your point Spooky its called tactics!

Jun 14, 2012 at 9:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterShelf Side Yid

It's too bad we really don't have a striker, otherwise this would probably be true.

On other posts/blogs + twitter AVB to be new Spurs manager and announced on Monday - also other sites mention Miralem Sulejmani is in talks to sign for spurs.

Jun 14, 2012 at 9:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterDD

I think it sums up the players' last-half-of-the-season performances.
It was up to them to do their half once Harry did his. I don't care what you think of the manager or chairman.
They can't PLAY for the players...!

Thanks Harry - Will always appreciate what you did.

Why not Bilic?

Unfortunately Bilic is Moscow bound. Unless Levy buys him out.

Clever Spooky, clever. Is AVB going to confuse our players or do are players struggle to relate to something that is the complete opposite of Redknapp's simplistic but effective ethos. We'll see. If he joins that is. Sounds like the betting companies are drumming up more rumours.

To the gimps that want two minutes back for reading this, you come here often? Obviously not. Too busy delving in the swamps of the net for ITK no doubt. Run along now.

This assumes a command of Anglo-Portugese, applied Geometry and Quantum Theory. Our strikers are still learning how to tie their bootlaces and not drool on the shirt.

Please let's not all pretend to be highly intelligent...I clocked myself at two mins forty five......seriously avb..if he was announced tomorrow would it be the end of the world ? In fact how dare we pre judge anyone till they take the reigns....that said if its rafa then I do give up and start supporting sandbanks FC or wherever else he rocks up!

For the record. I'm in support of his appointment.

He still needs to brush up on his media skills. Where's Arry when you need him?

100% agree, but should be much more of a mumble/whisper. Get used to it folks.

We're now getting semi cryptics on here too ffs! Back to TFC for you matey.

Jun 14, 2012 at 10:45 PM | Unregistered Commenterhoopspur

oh well back to mid table mediocrity.... hope all the harry bashers are happy now we're gonna be scraping around for a manager.
instead of having someone with champions league experience & a name which would attract top players we'll go for the bargain basement types like moyes or martinez who would be realitively unknown to players abroad & certainly are lacking champions league experience.... would this be a step up??
in the mean time ihope we hang onto some of our better players for next season.. although i doubt it
no wonder my chelski mates are having a good laugh at my expense.... levy & co are making our club look like a circus again..

Levy started looking for a replacement the moment Capello walked out. I don't believe he would sack Harry (and pay his severence!!) unless he had someone ready to fill the gap. Levy may frustrate with his protracted negotiations and iron grip on the purse strings but has not become stupid overnight. I doubt Spurs are scraping around for any old manager.

I love the idea of quantum mechanics for our strikers. It is all about things that are not really there but just a probability they might be--seems so suitable a metaphor.

Jun 15, 2012 at 12:36 AM | Unregistered CommenterDavidC

After such a long build up I thought that was going to be funny but unfortunately it wasn't. I do however get your point, but don't agree with it. There is nothing to suggest that our players are too thick to understand tactics, rather that they have just had a manager for the last four years who is by any standard a tactical mong. The fact that he claims tactics are 'overrated' says it all. Mourinho seems to do ok with them.

Laugh out loud funny spooky can't believe so many don't quite get it. Old growler wouldn't be a bad choice. He was charged with changing chavs playing style to that of THFC but found that you can't teach old racist dogs new tricks.

Jun 15, 2012 at 2:08 AM | Unregistered Commentermoe

Truth to tell I am overjoyed that Harry has gone...FFS what did he really do for us ???

He Inherited a group of talenetd players who lacked motivation and gave them a kick up the arse.Told them to go out and earn their money.
He then discovered (by accident) that he had a talent in Bale (which was lucky cos two weeks earlier he was going to sell him for a few quid !!!!!!!!

MANAGEMENT SKILLS - If he put half the effort into managing the team that he put into mouthing off to the media we would be safe and secure in 3rd place.

MOTIVATIONAL SKILLS - Maybe he put in some effort at the training ground but he was pathetic on matchday sat on his fat arse twitching and puffing, playing some players out of position and letting others do whatever they wanted, no wonder some players lost their way.

And as for his tactical awareness ... He was a clueless idiot. He and he alone lost us CL this year....

While you cannot isolate any one game (cos there were several) Villa was his ultimate cock up.. We had to win that game no If's or But's .... Did anyone tell Harry to win a game you need to score more goals than your opponents ??????
There must have been 100,000 people watching that game 99,999 people knew that Defoe was probably our best option only trouble was one @#ucking idiot failed to realise (Was he taking a bung of Wenger???)

As for a replacement ... It makes me laugh reading some of these comments... need someone with CL experience ..What experience did Harry have ???

Harry did a job for us but lets cut the crap ...He never gave a shit for the club and got paid more than most of us will earn in a lifetime....

Thanks .......Now WHOSE NEXT ?????

Long Live THFC

AVB is probably a tactical genius, if only the opposing team didn't understand his tactics. I am old enough to remember the days of Arthur Rowe. He stated that football was a very simple game to play. 'Make it simple. Make it quick", was his philosophy. I don't have a problem with that.

Jun 15, 2012 at 6:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterVictor Meldrew

AVB was given an impossible task at Chelski - kick out the old guys, change the style of play and win the Prem and ECL in your first season! The old guard didnt like it so stopped playing - so they got their mate installed instead (they call him Bobby ffs) and decided they'd bother to play again. They then got lucky twice over in the ECL - but their League results were WORSE under Bobby than under AVB. If AVB comes to Spurs, I think we'll see some good winning football, a bit of passion, a bit of flair and the chances being given to younger players.......so long as we dont place him under the same burden of expectations as Chelski did. Give him time and lets see what he does. I'd rather him than a mid-table safe bet like Moyes.

@johnnycheshunt - When the girlfriend seems to have stopped caring (second half of last season) and blames everyone else when it goes wrong. Then she makes it clear that she would dump you if a better offer come along. Then when the offer doesn't come tells you to marry her and buy you stuff.

Sad Harry has gone tbh. Not perfect. But changed where we now are in the pecking order and changed what we expect from our club.

AVB was mugged off at Chelsea. He was rubbish, but the team didn't help him. I hope it was a problem with Chelsea, as mentioned above his league results were actually better than Di Matteo's. He could be great and is still young, so could bring long term stability. You think maybe a chance he could twist Hulk / Falcao's arm into popping by WHL for a chat?

Jun 15, 2012 at 10:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterMatt

For me AVB is the only option...... He made a huge mistake in taking the Chelsea job, but in his defence, he wasn't to know that the senior players would effectively go on striker and whinge to Roman. He also had players bought that he didn't necessarily want.

Jun 15, 2012 at 10:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

Nice one Spooky. I worry you are having premonitions about our future. It was only last year that VdV was expressing his joy at how Harry doesn't make them sit in front of chalkboards. I've been craving our team to have a more in depth tactical approach since our inaugural Champion's League season, but I worry that our current crop of players just won't take to it. I hope Levy plans to employ someone to help us build for the future then and not someone who is to get us out of immediate bum-fuckery.

MDCT: Great work.

Has anyone actually seen AVB win with Porto, or did he just do it on Football Manager and duped everyone?

Interesting reaction from Chelsea fans! I for one would love AVB, think he is a slight risk but if we pull it off he is the type of manager that can take us onto the next level.

Does anyone else think that we were also quite good for Harry? Wet Spam, Southampton and Pompey. That was his previous. Hardly a glittering CV is it? Does anyone see him at the helm at Man U, Citeh, Liverpool, Cheatski or the Scum?? Me neither. He only got his chance at the big time because Wendy had cocked it up and we were at the foot of the table (false as that position was) and we needed HIS particular skill set at that particular time. He deserved and deserves our full gratitude for that intervention- no question.

Harry clearly deserved and was given a crack at putting us on the map in the next season and he achieved it. He deserves great credit for that. Despite a bit of fun in the 10/11 season, some appalling results at the business end denied us fourth place and an FA Cup Final appearance. Following that we needed to push on this year and he needed to prove he was the man to do it. He flirted with it but ultimately I think it was quite plain following a disastrous run in for the second season running that he wasn't up to it - as much of a shame as that is.

Coupled with the fact he undermined the club almost every occasion he opened his mouth, which was far too often, and that some (albeit unfounded) reports suggest he didn't turn up for training for large parts of the run in, I think a parting of the ways was inevitable. I'd also analyse it as the correct decision.

None of it Harry's fault, perish the thought.......

As much as I think Harry did a good job (you can't really argue too much with 4th, 5th, 4th in his three full seasons with us) I honestly don't think too many other managers would have finished any lower with the same squad. Yes, Harry helped build the squad, and signing players like Adebayor on loan this season helped, but surely his downfall was failing to secure Champions League football this season. It was a disaster to finish behind Arsenal after the lead we had over them and perhaps some of the players bottled it (even though I don't think there's anywhere near as much pressure fighting for third place as there was on United and City. If we can secure a big name as the next manager then we'll keep our star players. Otherwise, I fear that a Moyes or Martinez or AVB (God help us) will lead to the exodus of Bale, Modric, et al. We need to secure a manager VERY soon Mr. Levy, otherwise it'll be too late to negotiate with existing players and bring in new talent before all the best players are snapped up my our rivals.

Jun 15, 2012 at 4:31 PM | Unregistered CommenterSpurs Next Boss

Challenge is daunting for Spurs.

Levy needs to balance the need to qualify for CL next year (or risk becoming Aston Villa) with the need to find someone to work together with building a club, squad and stadium over the next 5 years.

So, do you go with a motivator to deliver next term, a longer term developer bringing success across all fronts over next 5 years or try to find someone that can deliver both.

In firing Redknapp Levy seems to have indicated he is opting for longer term sustained development. Which raises immediate squad challenges...will Bale/VDV/Adebayor or Modric play for medium term success? Most likely, no.

Look down the Seven Sister road - tells you how massive this challenge really is - Arsenal have tried to find the right balance for the past 5/7 years, qualifying for the CL each year, but losing their best players each summer because they cannot gather the resources to commit to immediate term success beyond 3/4 place which top players are not interested in achieving year in year out.

Rather daunting for Spurs...you have not even managed to achieve CL consistently...

For my money, sorry, but there is no way Spurs can manage CL qualification, building the club and holding your great players.
