Hazard's dad tells us what we know already

Hazard

Pretty much inconsequential until we hear official word but off the back of Eden Hazard citing Tottenham, his dad (in a follow up interview on Belgian tv) has stated the following about his in-demand wonder-kid son:

- Eden wants a move to an English club (no shocker, we know this)

- The English club has to offer him room to grow in combination with Champions League football + attacking style of play (I think we can be confident of appeasing him on both accounts)

- There is 'very serious interest' from Spurs

- Eden has stated he likes Spurs (having initially felt we were some way short of his expectations of a prospective club last season)

- He's been following us closely and our ambition combined with our playing style is right up his street

- Negotiations are in progress, but nothing has been signed

This is not ITK. This was an interview, so make of it what you will (hold back getting his name on your shirt) but it appears to be fairly encouraging. More so when I'm told Eden is not your textbook mercenary who is after the best wage so no reason why his dad would be attempting to engineer a transfer war for his sons signature.

(thanks to Belgian Spur for the update)

Bruno Uvini

Hands up how many of you instantly browsed to You Tube and searched for footage? Yeah, me too. He's a central defender (not a Rodrigo Defendi with any luck, but both hold Italian passports) that has only appeared a handful of times for his Brazilian club Sao Paulo. U20's captain and U20's World Cup winner. That's about as much as I know and footage of robust defending on You Tube wont tell you anything more other than perhaps good editing by the uploader.

He's on loan/trial. Move could be made permanent in the summer. 'One for the future'.

Tommy Huddlestone

Another op so no disguised passes or Hollywood cross field balls this season as he looks to sit it out with only his Afro for company (if he continues his charity drive not to have it cut until he scores a goal, then BAE will have mad competition come the start of next season). Tommy might be slipping down the pecking order but having him available would have been a positive not to be frowned upon. Quality player. Shame this season has past him by.

David Bentley

The Forgotten Beckham is apparently seeking a move to the MLS ASAP to get fit, according to his agent. Apparently he's already kicked his luggage across the Atlantic. No confirmation yet if it landed in a skip.

Its funny everyone is talking about how we have signed this Brazilian kid Bruno... but no official mention on the spurs website.
He does look a good prospect from the footage i've seen, apparently he was out for a while with an injury.... definitely one for the future.

It's happened before hasn't it. That Mexican striker. Can't even remember his name, from earlier this season. Not sure if it happened or not in the end. And another central/south American kid also who whored himself to Spurs and nothing came of it (he had a trial with us).

You can tell how much attention I've been paying to these particular stories.

Forgot to mention Hazard, that is a really exciting prospect, (I'm old enough to remember Micky) and the fact he has said he wants to come to Spurs should make it possible. DL to the negotiating table please, so many top clubs want this guy he is very special... perfect for us COYS !!

It seems strange that we would be in for Hazard. Don't get me wrong, it would be a massive coup and I would be more than welcome to see him in a Lily white shirt. It doesn't make me fear for Bale though, I can imagine him and Hazard interchanging between the Left wing and VDV role - we would have a scary amount of pace in our advanced possitions. What makes it strange is we are apparently willing to spend this amount of money when we desperately need a striker. I wonder about its authentisity. Good luck to the new kid on the block, I hope we have another brazilian Ninja in our ranks.

"Negotiations are in progress"

Im just happy that it seems we hav money to spend. Not sure the Hazard deal will happen, but if we have the money to try, we might have the money for some other bloke in the same price range...

Would Hazard be negotiating with knowing who our manager will be, OR, is someone starting to pull the strings, and there is only one guy who can do this!!!

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:03 PM | Unregistered Commenterhotspurs

As much as you hate ITK Spooky there was a guy (jjetset) on spurs community that got everything he said correct. He even talked about the Ryan Nelsen deal before it was anywhere in the media. Now to my point he said we were chasing Hazard all January and Lille had even gave permission for us to discuss the transfer. Harry had met him as had a number of club directors. All negotiations had been agreed and he wished to remain at Lille until the end of the season. jjetset did say nothing was 100% but he did want to go to a team where he would play every week. A lot of what jetset said mirrors the media reports from the last two days. Think this one might be a goer.

We've spent very little these last couple of years, yet moved a few out.
I guess we do have the money for that special signing after all.

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterChrisD

i have this weird feeling that i think we might actually spend quite big in the summer.

get the feeling ade won't cost half as much as we think i.e. £8-10m (wages aside). think we probably will only sign him as a striker. we have so many players that can interchange and play off the strikers that we'll only be looking for 3, being defoe, ade and saha.

hazard will come for big money. it's funny, because everyone always tries and works out who is taking whose place, i don't see it like that, moreso that we will actually have to compete in europe next year. i see with the addition of hazard a fucking lot of options around bale, vdv, lennon, hazard & modric.

i honestly don't see much wrong with that. i think we focus waaaaaaaay too much on this need for more strikers, when we seldomly play 2 ever. like barca, we are buying adaptable players who interchange. barca hardly even play with one striker these days. the hazard types are the real dangermen. we'll have about 5 of them!

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:19 PM | Unregistered CommenterMr Vexed

I'll believe Hazard etc. when I see it. I have long given up listening to media gossip re transfers. After all who predicted we would get Saha and Brad-------although Parker was touted, and how many of us would have supported these moves anyhow and just look what has happened. Clearly I know nothing, best to leave it to Harry and Levy!!

Since Glasgow Rangers have gone into administration in the SPL Celtic will have no opposition. Maybe they could swap places with Liverpool in the premiership?

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:24 PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid

I just can't help thinking that Hazard is being brought in as a replacement for Modric, who is off at the end of the season.

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterGlenn Spur

I'm with Hotspurs regarding Hazard potentially joining. If he's interested in joining then presumably it's on the basis that the current managerial structure remains in place, OR is it because he's been assured that a certain Mr Mourinho will be in the hotseat?? Evidently we tried to bag him (Hazard, not Jose) in January but just failed on the caveat that we get first option for the summer.

Likewise with the young Brazilian. There must be some indication being made as to what the managerial stucture will be. Presumably he's mates with Sandro and has only heard good things out of the club. I like the approach we're taking, very similar to with Sandro. Let him come over and adapt to the lifestyle, language difference etc. and then get into the footie from next season.

As for Bentley - well last week he was supposedly joining MK Dons on loan...... that hasn't happened yet. Then again, on deadline day Freddie Ljungberg was also about to join - instead they got Alan Smith.

Feb 15, 2012 at 2:58 PM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

That guys right the modern game is less reliant on a front two we gotta do are best to keep a
Ade and with a player like hazard who can unlock defences with pure magic. Ade,vdv , Saha , defoe, whoever will be scoring.bottom line a bigger investment should be spent on a player like hazard then a number 9.

Brazilyid - I remember being told about jjetset. I slated him for using textbooky ITK language, but was told after he got several things right although I'd love to be able to see the timeline of events again because so much info was being shared and at times it seemed like a circle of fuck between the internet the media and Sky Sports. Fair play if he did.

Not that many variables to play with, so someone is bound to strike lucky ;)

You got me thrown off COYS Spooky by provoking me into commenting on POTL.
So I'm just not going to go there.
Except to say...except to say that the Lille home shirt is red white and blue
which is clearly what Jetset or whoever is hinting at.
Yellow and blue my arse. It's Hazard and the red, white and blue.
He's coming to England and signing for Spurs. Forget the red for the moment.
No wait how is this supposed to work?

Feb 15, 2012 at 4:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

Glenn Spur....whare is Modric going then? Chelsea? Hahahahaha!! The pressure Abramovich is putting AVB under, they'll be lucky to have any Euro football next season, let alone CL!

Citeh? I doubt he'd delight in being in and out of the team.

Utd? Does he want to wait around at Utd while they undergo a re-building?

Spurs is where it's at, come the end of the season, he'll know!

Jimmy, I would say sorry for that but somehow I think I've done you a favour.

I still dont think we will get in the Champions League... Negative?

Feb 15, 2012 at 5:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterPLN

I am a bit puzzled to the Hazard comments, in which he says that they have a great manager and great players and the style which we have been playing, but that can only suggest that harry is not definately leaving for the england job, because if you are spending that kind of money on i must say, outrageous and amazing talent! like he is, then from the so called quotes,
some thing must be more definitive with regards to the managers situation at Tottenham !

Feb 15, 2012 at 6:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterSes

We have Bale, Modric and VdV. I struggle to get excited about this Hazard, who is the classic YouTube footballer from what I've seen. Some great passages of play in a weak league - enough to get the internet generation, with their 2 min attention spans, all excited. No undue offence to French football, but how did he do against proper teams in the champions league? How has he done against decent international teams? I vividly recall the excitement over his follow Belgian Lukaku last season. Turns out what looks good on YouTube ain't that great week in week out in the PL. What did Chelsea spend on him - £24m?

Hazard, Lukaku, Vermeilen, Kompany - if these players are all so great, why is the Belgian national team utter guff?

Arsenal coming back against Milan looks like mission impossible. But the be fair, they already conquered mission impossible tonight. They became the first English side to make boating look any good

For those seeking more information about Bruno Uvini, here is a Talksport interview with Tim Vickery (BBC guy who lives in Rio, also a Spurs fan I believe). He reckons Uvini is a bit of a gamble:

How can spending £3 million on a 20 year old be considered a gamble? If that's a gamble what did it make Chelsea spending £50 million on Torres?!??!
These days a £3 million transfer fee is peanuts. If it doesn't pan out on the pitch, Levy will just ensure we keep him until someone is willing to cough up £10 million.

Feb 16, 2012 at 11:40 AM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

Might be a good idea making a bid for Sturridge and a cheeky one for RvP or Torres, the latter if Harry stays.

Feb 16, 2012 at 11:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterSweetsman

Hazard certainly looks the right player to suit us....but I'm not going to get excited until the ink dries. It's a given that we need a permanent for Ade...another but...can they sort out a deal? The Brazilian kid looks a good piece of business, They don't let mugs captain any of their national teams, do they? If you look at our cbs King, Gallas and now Nelson there are two common denominators. Age and prone to injury. If we are looking ahead to next year, Dawson and Karrbooom can't do it on there own. The Sandro Path worked really well. Let's hope we get a repeat.
By Christ it's great being a Spurs supporter at the moment!! COYS!!

Feb 16, 2012 at 2:07 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

Harry's spoken to the press in Dubai and he is clearly saying he wants the England job for the 'Euros' and back to Spurs after that.
I would go along with that and i also think Levy would. England might want a long term Manager, but the media and players will talk him up, so the FA should go along with it.

last minute loss for spurs in the youth cup - but seems like the ultras did well - this from the academy manager on spurs website “I’ve got the say I thought the number of fans was amazing. It was like a little White Hart Lane. To be able to play in at atmosphere like this is a fantastic experience........”
well done lads..

Feb 16, 2012 at 10:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterCOLSEY

What a top night yesterday , Hazard business seems to be very real and first time they really seem keen to sign at a club. Been following him since he's a young lad (having played against his dad , who was a very nasty defensive midfield player) and i thought he'd never come to us but the winds of change are coming our way and all that

But i still want to see whether Levy is actually going to spend 35 million on a young lad.

Feb 17, 2012 at 3:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterBelgian Spur

And he really isnt the textbook mercenary , he could have signed for PSG this year and they offered 50 million to Lille and crazy wages but he said it is time to take his football to another league and the EPL will be it. Spain would suit him more but only Barca and Real would be viable options and he feels that he needs time to develop further as a player

Lets not forget this guy has been chased by every major club in world football since he was 14 years old and stayed loyal to Lille all that time. Even when things weren't going his way.

Dammit , i am getting all worked up now

Feb 17, 2012 at 3:54 PM | Unregistered CommenterBelgian Spur

Oh and Paul F , French league is pretty strong and phyiscal , have you seen how easy most players from that League find it in the EPL ? Cabaye this year at newcastle being a nice example

Lukaku is only 18 years old so a bit harsh to write him off , Fellaini does very well at Everton ,Courtois (the GK Chelsea signed) is first goalie at Atletico Madrid at the age of 19 ,Dembele at Fulham fits in nicely and Kompany is prob one of the best central defenders in the world.

Why are we doing so badly you ask , we lack decent fullbacks and an experienced striker. That's it.
