Job done

Never been a fan of radio commentary. Back in the day (when unable to get to the game) preferred the lottery of waiting for the page to refresh on Teletext. No live streams knocking around for today either as the game wasn't broadcasted live anywhere. Sounded pretty much like a walk in the park.

Starting eleven: Cudicini; Livermore, Bassong, Dawson, Rose; Lennon, Kranjcar, Pienaar, Giovani; Defoe, Pavlyuchenko.

Subs: Gomes, Kaboul, Bostock, Carroll, Falque, Parrett, van der Vaart.

Gomes not even fancied for a home banker. Bostock with an apperance off the bench (certain night out in Nandos on the cards after that).

Midfield made up of four wingers/wide players and no natural centre midfielders. But it hardly mattered. Was more than enough to brush Cheltenham aside. Niko with all the time in the world. Well, Town are hardly City. Key highlight was resting all our first eleven with Everton in mind. Job done then.

Defoe (stealing it from a certain chipped Gio goal), Pav (quality team goal) and Gio (deflection) all scoring. Official report here.

Keep an eye out on this video wall from Winkball for post-match reaction from fans who went to the Lane.

The Double is on.

so charlie couldnt even get a game at RB? is he injured?

Jan 7, 2012 at 5:47 PM | Unregistered Commenterfoxyf

Perhaps he was busy having his West Ham medical.

I wish Dos Santos had been given more of a chance because he will become a terrific player if shown a little luv.

He always comes good against lower league sides.

For me radio commentary reminds me of my childhood when I relied on the tranny for live match commentary. I listened to the 1972 UEFA Cup victory. There was no live telly transmission in them days.
After leaving England to live in Israel I was dependent on the World Service for years for my weekly fix. Don't knock the radio. It was there when we needed it.

Radio comms reminds me of Jonathan Pearce's OTT Spurs and England commentary on Capital Gold back in the mid 90s. Used to love him screaming down the mic back when I was 14-15. Watched all of England's Euro 96 games with the TV on mute and 1548 on the stereo. Simple times.

Capital Gold to me reminds me of darker days. I'm sure I listened to us lose 6-0 to Sheff Utd once. Perhaps I dreamt it. The theme tune to Capital Gold usually signed the end of another dire nights football.

I think de santos is the one player on the fringe that I wouldtoo my upmost to keep. He has the style and skill of a true spurs player. What a shame if he were to leave. He has so much potential.

Jan 7, 2012 at 7:07 PM | Unregistered CommenterHotspurs

Potential, but can't do much in training to prove he's worthy of a place.

Jan 7, 2012 at 7:10 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

He needs opportunities and to feel as if he is part of the team. He really has something and proved its when playing for Mexico. He neds to reproduce it.

I raised the issue of fringe players wanting to leave on the blog yesterday and Harry raised this issue today. If only they would buy into the dream as they do in one way or another at man u or man c. We are not there yet, we do not have the pull for a player to sat I'd rather be a sub at spurs than at any other club. Players want to play or they will sit and watch for a lot of money, ie £150k/week.

It's a difficult position to be in all round.

The training nonsense always makes me laugh

According to Harry, Crouch was always scoring headers in training. Pity he rarely did it in actual matches

Was at the game today and thought kranks had a great game but have to agree with spooky on dos santos why do you think Barcelona sold him? An average player even against a 2nd division team. Also there was too much " let's not have a shot let's pass it once too often and miss the opportunity". But as the title says " job done"

I used to love listening to Jonathon Pearce on the radio...he could really paint the scene and give a cracking commentary. The only real downside to it was Tony 'I hate Spurs' Gale, can't stand that prick.

Pleased for Dawson, good to have him back. Couldn't care less about GDS now, how many years has he failed to impress? Would like to more of Falque now, he looked good in his Euro cameos.

I remember clearly the day Cantona kung-fu'ed that prick in the stands. Pearce went mental. That was pretty decent.

Jan 7, 2012 at 10:51 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

Tony Gale was commentating on the Spurs game the other week. Was ridiculously biased (against us) to the point of parody.

Jan 7, 2012 at 10:51 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

I'd like to think that that work-out helped Lennon, Dawson and Kranc. Thought trying Livermore at RB was a good idea (seeing as Corluka is away having his medical). I would prefer Livermore as RB backup than VC.

'Jurgen Klinsmann, son of a baker, puts the icing on the cake!'

Anyone remember that Pearce classic when Klinsmann finished off Watford in the cup?

Radio commentary takes me back to the FA Cup goal-fest against Southampton in 1995. I had just gone off to the US for 6 months and my brother recorded the game on cassette and posted it to me......

Jan 8, 2012 at 2:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

At least the two Gloucester commentators didn't indulge in that inane, irritating and distracting boys' banter which ruins so much of the London Radio commentary which I used to have to listen to before I discovered and subscribed to 'livefootyonline.

We seem to have to come to terms with a Spurs team that does the business as and when required. I'm not sure that I can cope.
We don't even need Jenas as scapegoat these days.

Jan 8, 2012 at 3:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterJimmyG2

Walkerboy, was that when Ronny scored a hatrick?!

I used to love radio commentary, as it often made a match sound more exciting than it actually was. Every time the the other team had the ball it was frightening and whenever we were on the attack it felt like we were going to score.
