Latest transfer gossip from Twitter

Latest whispers and rumours this early afternoon. All info from Twitter via other people on Twitter. Which basically means hold off celebrating until after Jim White's head explodes on Sky Sports News.

- Mirko Vucinic bid accepted by Roma (meant to be around £15M which I have to say is a fairly superb price for him). It's been reported on back in Italy and it's made it's way across Europe with various journalists confirming (confirming what remains to be seen- confirming rumour or fact?). He's a proper all-round centre forward with a bit of everything and relatively cheap compared to other targets we've been linked with.

- Romelu Lukaku apparently subject to three bids, all from London clubs. Hardly tricky to work out which clubs. Also, equally not of difficulty to point at the West London club and nod in agreement that Lukaku's destination is with them. They know the player well. He's been on a promise to join them for a long time now.

- Ibrahim Afellay. If I've got this right, the 'rumour' was birthed out of the suggestion that Barca (having just splashed out £23M for Sanchez) want to offload Afellay (a player they signed last season) to generate money to go towards their Fabregas hostage payment. Bit far fetched this. But fingers crossed for a bit of fantasy football (transfer). Winger, very solid player but more inclined to believe this is simply foreign tabloid gossip and is only being discussed because it's not come directly from Sky Sports or the red tops.

- Chelsea to make final offer for Luka Modric at £35M. Cute.

- Q.P.R. in for Crouch, but denying it although we all know that usually means the opposite (logic not applicable to transfer window activity). Possible and probable the moment we start to make official announcements on signed players. Domino effect kicks in (that's domino as in a chain reaction - the first has to 'fall' for the rest to follow. No to be confused with the Dominos Pizza effect which is Mido in pre-season training).

In addition to the Vucinic story, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is meant to be considering a move to Spurs or Fulham (Seven Sisters or the river in Fulham). If we're in for Lukuka at least that shows we're after two forwards (or more?) so guess away which of the other two current Spurs players will join Crouch on the way out of the Lane. Keane not included in that scenario because I refuse to contemplate one where he remains post-transfer window closure. Then again, I should hold off on the maths here because we wont know how many players to move on until after we 'complete' signings for brand new forwards.

Two in would suggest two out. So that's two newbies + JD or Pav with Crouch and Keane gone.

Or something.

Caveat for all of this is worth stating again, none of it might turn out to be true. Italian media claiming Vucinic done but then that's a little bit like Sky Sports Understanding and all they've actually done is read something printed in another country.

All of the above has also been confirmed by the ITK community who knew about it weeks back although you'll have only worked it out if Dan Brown was there to lend a hand.

If we want (Not sure I do myself) but if the club want Modric to stay not sure getting Mirko Vucinic is the answer. That's not because he isn't a good player more to do with him coming from Montenegro and there history with Croatia. Or is it Serbia they have a problem with since the split?

All speculative without any clout

Jul 22, 2011 at 2:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterRoy Singh

Great update, but you dont like math?
If we buy Vucinic, and then anther striker, why would we need to sell more than Keane, Crouch and Giovani?

Surely we need 4 strikers and a couple of talents...

Øivind

Jul 22, 2011 at 2:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterØivind

brazilyid im not sure that will be too much of an issue. In that case no one should sign any Germans...

Jul 22, 2011 at 2:41 PM | Unregistered Commenterlilywhitemike

Øivind - Say we sign two new forwards and both are 'first teamers', then we need two on the bench, so that's Keane and Crouch gone - so yes, JD and Pav would remain although you can imagine neither being happy sitting on bench so we might look to sell another and invest in more yoof.

The point I was making is, hardly worth the effort to work it all out until after we see who we've signed.

Roy - No argument there.

Jul 22, 2011 at 2:45 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

With respect lilywhitemike this is a little more recent that WW2 and Modric was affected by this and was alive when it was going on and also lost members of his family. In saying that I'm no expert and not sure how much involvement Montenegro had. I just know Serbia did and the country's were once linked. I'm mealy putting it out there.

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

oh dear. in latest modric soun bites harry has used the words 'a player we want to keep if possible' if possible? that's a change in tact. and says levy is 'quite determined, if we can, to hang on to him' if we can? if possible? hmmmmm. are they creaking the doors open?

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:03 PM | Unregistered Commenteradolf ginola

Brazilyid - your speculation and assumptions and 'ifs, buts and maybes' are boring. They're footballers - you go on like Vucinic was directly involved or something.

Ridiculous.

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:18 PM | Unregistered CommenterDBsKnees

If you parse every one of Harry's soundbites it would drive you crazy. A prosecuting laywer would have a field day cross-examing him.
Stop worrying---I am sure that if Modric is sold levy will squeeze Chelsea for at least 35 million plus a couple of youngsters--Sturridge and McEchen come to mind--or better still sell him to Man U- who would love to have him in their midfield--at a lower price than Chelsea offered. Chelsea management, supporters and their media lackies need to be made to eat humble pie for all their behaviour.

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:20 PM | Unregistered Commenterdavid

No you idiot I'm making the point that if there making signings in order to convince modric to stay not sure this is the kind of player to do it. Keep up. How have I implied he was involved???

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterBrazilyid

Modric demands transfer after Montenegro race slur spurring from ITK community.

Replacement is you tube superstar who did 20 pressups and scored a goal from 30 yards with a back heel whilst being blindfolded and set alight.

My mate ITK has confirmed

It's fine, they played against eachother in no-mans-land.
Ratboy couldn't score there either. No hard ones.

Anyhoo....Vucinic sounds like something Arry Vucin scratches.

Jul 22, 2011 at 3:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

The latest from the Chelsea employee masquerading as the Tottenham manager:
"We're quite determined, if we can, to hang on to him but it is a difficult situation. It's a difficult one for Luka and it's a difficult one for Tottenham."

What follows is a primal scream of a rant:
Shut up, shut up, shut up!!! Why can't you just shut the f*** up?!?!!!

"if we can"? Right, because fifth-is-as-good-as-it-gets-Spurs are idiots if they think they can refuse to sell to more-brown-paper-bags-full-of-cash-than-our-'Arry-can-say-no-to-Chelsea.

Levy, since you clearly cannot control this ethics-free chancer, why haven't you sacked him?
If Harry is not working to forward Chelsea's interests, why the hell is he saying these things?
AAARRRGGHHHHH!!!!!

Need to go have a bit of lie down now.

Jul 22, 2011 at 5:20 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Feel your pain.

Sky Sports News when asked whether £35million would be enough to prise Modric from his grasp.

"I think he is worth an awful lot more money than that.

"But we are not looking to sell Luka. We need to keep our best players, so he is a player we want to keep if possible.

"It's in the hands of the chairman of the football club (Daniel Levy), it's not my decision. I work with him as the coach, but the chairman says he is not for sale so we will have to wait and see. He is quite determined, if we can, to hang onto him.

"It's a difficult situation. It's a difficult one for Luka and it's a difficult one for Tottenham."

Jul 22, 2011 at 7:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterBillaRenaBrownBeaverBeard

hmmm i think give pav a good run in the team and he will prove himself! he can definitely finish! if i had to keep any of our strikers it would be him. calamity crouch will probably stay id say too, wont get alot for him and he gives you something else. therefore leaving defoe who was appauling last term, or will defoe find his lethal form this time round? this thinking only leaves me with keane as a definite out! wonder what harry is thinking????

The good news, brazilyid and those yapping at him, is that Serbia (or Serbs, even before the breakup of Yugoslavia) is who Croatia fought their war of independence with. Montenegro was a pretty small player in the whole ordeal.

Doesn't matter, Modirc will be gone by September.

Jul 23, 2011 at 8:08 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

It's like waiting for Christmas. We've all sent our list opff to Santa but the likliehood is that our stockings will be filled with 2 lumps of coal and a tangerine as thos of us of a certain age will remember.

For me the only issue with Modric is selling to Chelsea or Utd. for that matter. It would be wrong to reward Chelsea for their continued activity in making waves but also why strengthen their squad at our expense?

Selling Modric abroad would not bother me at all. He is a very active player but doesn't deliver where it hurts in terms of either goals or assists. The real power in CM is Sandro and his injury is the biggest problem we have at the moment, apart from the lack of scoring strikers. There are many more productive mid-fielders around than Modric according to others on several sites so unload the guy and let's move forward.

It's hard to remain optimistic but we ahve to try.

Jul 23, 2011 at 9:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterDaveK

Agree with all that, DaveK.

Sandro's injury is a massive blow, hopefully he'll be back sooner than expected. I've got no problem with Modric going as long as there is some sort of plan for the season to cover his departure; be it buying a replacement or from within. If we can eventually find a striker or two who can play the lone role, I'm looking forward to seeing Sandro and Hudd behind Bale, VdV and Lennon. We were far too open last season, and if your strikers are failing on a weekly basis, you'll lose/draw too many games.

I'd rather he went abroad, but I see him going to the blue scum, possibly Manure. Wherever he goes, I've got a feeling Redknapp will use it as a drum to bang whenever we don't perform; a ready made excuse to further curb expectations so that the FA still come a calling if we don't (as I expect) finish in the top 5 next season.

Jul 23, 2011 at 9:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterTMWNN

Harry mouthing off means one thing. He has an agreement with Levy to make these statements so as not to make Levy look as though he is betraying the fans when we sell Modric. There is no doubt that Harry and Levy have talked a different language about this matter from the outset and my opinion is that there is no disagreement between, just Levy levering ££££££££££ out of Chelsea. No one else wants to buy him, not even at the original Chelski offer of £22m. I simply do not trust Levy. He's too fucking hidden.

Levy and co are liars, cheats and real bastards and the two of them are taking us all for a ride. Now it its nothing under 35 mill hey. you are right of course, hotspurs. Redknap (sic) has brought the club to a new low. 4th in the league, last 8 in the champions league? Pah - all these things pale into insignificance against the crime of not choosing his words carefully in an interview. Edspecially as, when he was hired, he was noted to be a shy and retiring type who keeps his own councel.

I actually believe that hotspurs is correct in that Levy is pulling the strings on what Redknapp is saying; Levy is using Redknapp as his mouthpiece (a very mouthy mouthpiece).

"He's not for sale, but if you want to keep raising the bid, we'll see."

Hey Spook

Just wondering why you seem to be keen on Vucinic? To me he doesn't impress, I'd compare him pretty much to a Defoe/Pav hybrid, and i don't mean that in any complimentary sense. What do you think?

Jul 27, 2011 at 4:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterBdubb

He's not spectacular I know but he's an improvement imo.

Tbh, I'm genuinely not that excited with any of our targets. Not an issue with Spurs but more of the supposed availability of players out there. The cream of the crop are completely out of our reach.

Jul 27, 2011 at 6:38 AM | Registered Commenterspooky

Not a happy bunny this morning. Had planned to take my 5 year old to MK Dons v Spurs XI last night.
However, having seen the lineup for the "XI" that played against Barnet on Saturday I decided I wouldn't waste my cash.

Defoe, Pav, Bentley, Kranjcar & Corluka all started............ NOT HAPPY!!!

Jul 27, 2011 at 9:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterWalkerboy

By all accounts JD had an absolute mare and was booed off (heard this from Spurs AND Dons fans) Pav & Kranjcar played REALLY well and Bentley was his usual showboating but ultimately fucking useless self. Charlie played well at CB and it finished 5-3 to us.

city on the verge of completeing deal for aguero - £38m supposedly

we are falling so far behind

i dont think ive ever been so underwhelmed by spurs in a transfer window

utd, city, liverpool, arse and to an extent Chelsea all with new blood

i cannot bear the thought of another season with crouch, defoe and jenas - sell them to stoke/wigan/wolves ffs!!!

i couldn't care a less if it was at a loss. just get rid of them.

buy someone, anyone. take a risk. just do something!!!

Jul 27, 2011 at 3:17 PM | Unregistered Commenterkoume2

Know what you mean, koume2. I keep clicking on different sites, looking for something, anything. Just a giant cricket convention so far as Spurs go.

Well, exception being the Spurs XI (with a rather embarassing number of first teamers in it) vs MK Dons. Sounded a fun match with some incredible goals, 5-3 in the end, Niko assisting on 4, scoring 1 35 yard screamer, Pav scoring twice. Young fella Kane scored as well. Defoe missed multiples and was taken off early.

But for all the impact that match and those performances will have on who lines up against Everton on the 13th, might as well be crickets.

Sigh.

Jul 27, 2011 at 5:10 PM | Unregistered Commenterziegemonster

Just as well some of you don't run businesses or anything important. The 'just do something for the sake of it' fan base historically has always been shortly followed by the 'short term memory brigade' immediately preceding the 'why the fcuk did we do that? group'.

Curiously though, they always turn out to be the same people.

And spooks you must know terry nutkins, used to hang about with that 'cwis packem' chap, has a thing for squirrels and the likes.

Jul 27, 2011 at 5:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterWinterWeekend61

Tricky, I guess you're unfamiliar with the concept of hyperbole, overstating something for effect.

I think koume2 was expressing his not unique frustration at the absolute lack of activity, particularly in light of two prior tranfer windows when we all went along with the "it'll get done in the last week, last day, last hour" belief but...it didn't.

Given our first choice strikers inability to score in the PL, it's not surprising people want to see "someone, anyone" signed. Yeah, it would be great to sign someone world class, but take a look at the top scorer list from last season and note the number of bog standard strikers who out performed crouch and defoe.

Koume didn't say 'just do something for the sake of it' he said "just do something" railing against the evident paralysis that has marked our transfer activity for too long. Have you looked at our fixtures for the first three months? Without functioning strikers, we could be in a very scary spot come the January transfer window when it could well be more than just Modric looking to abandon the good ship Sell-Before-We-Buy. Something has to be done.

Oh, and FYI, football blogs are generally someplace people come to indulge in a rant or two, not behave as they do in real life. I don't imagine Spooky's workday persona is what we all enjoy here.
