JD talks Spurs

Fighting Cock message board member 'boxbat' was present at the Q&A Fans Forum with Defoe firing back the answers to questions posed. Below are some of the stand out quotes. Nothing ground-breaking really other than the fact the player is focused on CL qualification rather than winning domestic cups. In your face silverware.

So I was lucky enough to go to the Fans Forum with JD at the Lane last night. He was on good form, answering questions on a variety of topics. I put the question to him about whether he would prefer to win the FA Cup and Europa League or qualify for the Champions League again, and he didn't hesitate much in choosing the latter. So there you go, I guess that's the modern footballer's mindset these days.

A few other things from off the top of my head:

- Modric called the strikers 'greedy' in training after Ade and JD each failed to pass against Newcastle; JD says he felt he had a good chance of scoring and was going to shoot, that's just the way he is.
- JD claimed he doesn't feel any joy over Rooney's England ban - reckons it shouldn't need to take something like that for him to force himself into the team.
- Everyone laughs at Pav's dress sense.
- JD is most impressed with Tom Carroll out of the youngsters
- JD thinks Modric is our most irreplaceable player
- Bassong is an attention seeker, Sandro hugs everyone when he comes into training
- Niko is the most frequent supplier of nutmegs
- JD reckons he's sharper over 10 yards than Bale, also says he's fitter than he's ever been
- JD has been offering a bit of advice to Coulibaly, namely, not to rush his shots when through on goal
- Adebayor 'hates' a***nal

...and quite a bit more besides, but there's a taster.

The lad should have played the full game its ironic our form has bean dipping since Harry started too accommodate Van der Vaart and Ady has not scored Defoe and Adebyor should be the first on the team sheet. Our season is starting too resemble our last campaign with injury's and Harry tinkering we are turning wins into draws teams chase the ball with endless energy that makes me very nervous and waiting for a second half onslaught by any team no matter how good on paper they are i dont care how good Tiote is no player can run round a pitch like he did legally... I no 100 percent and Toure and Kenny five Mexicans are living proof in this high tempo football way of playing is equalizing there chances of winning or drawing games on paper they could lose.

Dunno if you're accusing Tiote of using performance enhancing drugs there davspurs but i think that may be slightly wide of the mark! Everytime Defoe has an injury he comes back saying he feels fitter than ever. Good start to the season by him - just wish he would improve his all round intelligence in the box. Being greedy (sometimes one of his strongest attributes) is not always a good thing - that pass should've won us the game. I hope someone is having a word with him, apart from Luka. However, all i can imagine is 'Arry saying something like "well that's Jermaine all over, if you took that part of his game away he'd be a different player". Good!

7 yards out with the keeper to beat and a couple defenders on the floor infront of him, I would want JD to shoot everytime. Sadly this time it was straight at the GK.

He's a finisher, 7 yards out he should be finishing, or trying to, not passing. Hindesight is a wonderful thing but I expect our strikers to shoot in those positions...lets not turn all tippy tappy and get to a place where no one shoots, always looking for the pass.

With the Ade chance, he should have passed, he was 20 yards out with 2 in front of him and JD was in acres. He just did not look left...early days in their partnership but for the 30 minutes or so JD was on we had 2 o r3 real good situations and JD scored from nothing too. 442 all the way!

Oct 19, 2011 at 2:46 PM | Unregistered Commenterdevonshirespur

Hmmm i see your point but in that instance i disagree. Yes hindsight is a wonderful thing, but that doesn't change the fact that a pass there should've won us the game. He had his first shot and then as you say had a keeper and two defenders in front of him, significantly narrowing the areas for him to score (and Defoe isn't one to place it neatly into a gap in the goal, rather blast it and hope for the best), and so a pass to a team mate, unmarked in the middle of the box was the better option. I am not advocating a tippy tappy style of play, rather a logical approach to goalscoring.

Oct 19, 2011 at 2:58 PM | Unregistered Commenterserji22

That was frustrating (lack of passing), but sure words have been had since.

Spacial awareness Spurs, make it so.

Oct 19, 2011 at 2:59 PM | Registered Commenterspooky

i would expect jd to shoot, to be fair he has a pretty good dig on him at all times, i mean he struck that goal with his left like he is a natural leftie - pure class.

more of the same jd, he has to start with ade in the next couple of games, vdv is upsetting the balance of things IMO.

Oct 19, 2011 at 3:11 PM | Unregistered CommenterMr Vexed

JD is a selfish moron. His only attribute is try make a yard and shoot. He is so one dimensional. He has no idea what offside means and never pre-empts a good ball into the box. How many times last year was he on the pitch and we saw amazing crosses from Bale and lennon whizz across the 6 yard box only to see JD on the d on his heels? He scored 4 league goals last year including 2 at wolves. I don't get this defoe for VDV nonsense. Rafa was our top scorer last year. He scores pretty much a goal every other game and adds a hell of a lot more to our all round play than JD. Lets look at it this way if both players wanted out in the morning. what clubs would potentially be interested? None of the top clubs have ever tried to make a move for defoe. When he did leave previously he went ot portsmouth FFS. VAn der Vaart is a previous Ballon D'Or nominee. The guy plays with a passion and enthusiasm most lack kisses the badge and grannies when he scores and does whatever is asked of him by the manager. I am so sick of the JD brigade!!! If he was any other nationality no one would want him anywhere near white hart lane.. He is an impact player off the bench now and if he can't accept that then on yer way jermain. To Sunderland or QPR or whoever will take you!

oh COYS by the way!

Firstly, Davspurs, really!!! You still droning on about this, every Spurs blog I visit your comment about everyone, except Spurs players (funny that) takes performance enhancing drugs!!!

anyway, I don't think, apart from Luka, any of the management would have had a word with JD. I'm not going to turn this into something against Harry, just something i've observed that I do blame Harry for (blamed for the reason that I can't think of any other and a lot of the evidence points this way, but I'm not privvy to any of the finer details of how it works behind the scene at Spurs - there's my disclaimer so no one bites my head off).

Basically, harry came in and instantly we were much better, we were winning games left right and we all know how well it's gone since, it's been great....

The thing is, I just don't think in the last 2 years we've improved as a team under him at all and individually, no one has improved their game. Bale - but he was a potentially world class youngster, he really couldn't help getting better, I was better at 23 than I was at 19 and I had no professional coaching at all. Other than that, Assou Ekotto has improved his concentration, a few others have gone backwards! When you look at this with open eyes it starts to look like harry really is tactically inept and maybe doesn't understand football on as deep a level as some of the newer managers around... or maybe he just left it too late to manage at a high level, I don't know.

Even when you look at Bale, he has not improved on the decision making part of his game at all... still runs down the wing when he can play people in, rarely plays a clever pass and has become easy to read which is how experienced defenders are good at keeping him quiet. defoe has never got better, still offside all the time, still closes his eyes, hit's it as hard as he can and hopes for the best.

When you constantly read players saying 'we do know work on tactics, he just makes sure we have belief' you start to think he was being 100% honest when he said himself that football is all about putting your best players on the pitch and hoping the quality will win you the game. we actually had a story from Luka this week stating he was unhappy at the lack of any intelligent training and doesn't believe we'll ever catch up with Chelsea while we train the way we do...

I actually think his first full season in charge we played great exciting football, however, Lennon's got worse since then and he has tried too hard to work the individuals in rather than treating the squad as a whole as the other big clubs do,. they will have 4-6 players that you know will start, but the rest remain interchangeable...

I can't thank Harry enough and I don't want to sklate him because he has given me the best years to be a Spurs fan, but I genuinely believe we had the team before he got there. Jol finished 5th twice with a team that was inferior to our current squad which i believe should be right up there. I honestly believe that Spurs team - up to maybe 15 playders in total would be a joy to manage and I think any half decent manager would have got as much out of this team as Harry. We have the likes of VDV, Bale and Modric in that team... that's 3 world class players - then, and admittedly thanks to Harry (like I said, not an anti Harry rant, just something that's been playing on my mind lately) we have Adebayor (and parker?) so that's at least 4 world class players in there and great young players and the like of Ekotto who are fantastic footballers. Look at Liverpool, they have 3, one of those is the GK, Gerrard and Suarez - Arsenal have VP - that's it.

These has probably an incoherent rant when I was hoping to put something really measured across to you lot to discuss... Am I wrong in thinking that maybe some of the individual players should have improved more under the current management, just little bits of their game, not dramatic improvements just the small stuff. do you think we have actually played great football over 90 mins in the premier league since that great first full season? I really don't remember us dominating a game since 'that' game against Wigan....

I hope he gets the England job - i think he would be perfect for it, man management being such a big part of it, and I believe he would get people wanting to play for England again and maybe in turn, we would enjoy watching england again - so we can get Anchelotti, who maybe, just maybe, will be able to give us that extra 5-10% that a World Class m,anager can give. I think what I'm saying is, just because he was the right man for the job, has done well while he's been in place, it doesn't automatically make him the best man for the job right now... what do we all think?

Can't be doing with debating the merits of Redknapp. IMO it is plain that we are lucky to have him and it seems the Spurs Board agree too.

Regarding greedy strikers Modric is spot on.
Of course Spurs is a football team full of players who have fought their way to the top and you don't often do that without a selfish and self promoting aspect to you however nice you are so we cannot expect them to work together like some hippy commune and we would probably suffer as a team if we did.

BUT... Every single part of the team works 100 times better when it works as a team. Usually it means partnering up with one team mate so 2 CMs, 2 CBs, 2 CFs, RB/RM, LB/LM these are all the natural partnerships then you have some others like when Parker covered for Ledders gallop forwards against Arsenal and BAE is expected in midfield when Modric/Bale are AWOL etc.

Of the many things that went wrong with the strikers last season, mostly that they just were not good enough, but one of the key ones was that maybe Crouch aside they did not work together in any way enough as a partnership with their other striker. If I was Sir Les I would tell them that any bad decision will result in a kick in the gonads from each of the strikers the following Monday in training and some other forms of humiliation just for the fun of it. Being confident and agressive abd a winner is all well and good but if it hurts your team it makes you a loser then it is full of shit.

Oct 19, 2011 at 3:55 PM | Unregistered Commentercoys

Coys - in all fairness, my post on the merrits of Redknapp were relevant to the post with regard the improvement of the individuals - ie, Defoe learning that he is in a partnership up front and maybe passing instead of shooting - or at least looking up and concidering a pass first - it shouldn't take 2 years to drill this in to a player, and if he does - you sell that player because he's obviously not good enough!

Oct 19, 2011 at 4:06 PM | Unregistered CommenterDan Mac

Totally Tottenham have you ever kicked a ball being a striker meens shooting at goal if he had passed and the other player missed he would be moaned at and to say he is greedy yes he is and so would i be. The lad only played 45 mins scored and for you imformation Newcastle equalized too draw we never won throughs fuckin fried egg who was way of his line and got beat by a gap that if he was on his line it would have bean one foot wide and the ball travelling slower another Robbo the Blackburn game could end up being 4=4 . The fan who is accusing me of saying Tiote road runner is on somthing is wrong i would not accuse him but but the whole ficking team its a team thing Tempo tampering and goes back to 1966 we have just learned two Germans had ephergine in there piss samples in the Final followed by Maradona World cup five Mexicans Copa America Glenbutarol blamed on bad meat. Toure wifes Slimmers Paddy Kenny Ephedrine bad cold. No i wont accuse them but i will question why they run 121 klm to our 114 look slim and gaunt are in fourth with the same defence has last year sold there best players and there leading scorer failed two medicals ay Stoke and Liverpool and is leading the scoring charts in the premiership. Do you blame me after Toure playing in the best defence and seeing another team in my area Widnes also using energy drugs do i think they came back because there manager said too is players imagine there is a slope and you are playing on it all down hill well they sure looked like they where running down Everest especially chasing Bale Tiote Oberton Taylor. Defoe has come out and said he doesn't take drugs or drink he could of said nothing he works with a man aged seventy too help his fitness five mins with me and i would tell him why he has seconds to make a decision in the fastest most unpoliced league for energy drugs in Europe. This was told too me by the testers Uk sport who have changed there name but kept the same staff who told me they could not catch them She said players are under the radar. One word of caution we are playing a team in the bottom three last season we got beat by three teams in the bottom three who run a lot saved a lot and blocked a lot of chances from Defoe and co.

Davspurs you are a legend.

Seriously though folks, when the club has asked Defoe to go to this event, do you really believe that they didnt brief him on what he could and couldn't say?

Oct 19, 2011 at 4:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterPLN

Davspurs - Are you really trying to tell me that you believe that if we lose to a worse team than us it's because they are taking energy enhancing drugs? If you have a source at a company who is telling you this (with proof/evidence) why are you trolling through blogs writing it on here and not doing something about it! You write this on every blog, it's been a constant post from you for about a year now (please start adding some full stops and commas in there so it's a bit easier to read) I just don't get why you are constantly repeating yourself on message boards, if you care enough that this is the only part of football you will discuss then why are you not, using your contacts, doing something real about this. I'll be honest with you, I think you talk b0l0x, but IF you know sometyhing we don't, instead of rehashing the same (what sounds an awful lot like a) conspiracy theory then prove us wrong and expose it with the help of, what sound like, amazing contacts you have... contacts who have the data to back up what you're saying.

Oct 19, 2011 at 4:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterDan Mac

Dan Mac you of all people should not question Davspurs about full stops i could put 20 stops its only a button. To the man who said i dont call Spurs players when have we chased the ball all over the pitch in gangs of three and the only man we had who was on my radar has gone to Stoke and he came from overachievers Wigan who beat us one nil. This is what i said when we signed him he was bought for one million and was like Tiote run run tackle tackle run run i said if we sign him he will go shit he did but for our fans sake i will go with the theory his brothers sad death affected him..... Secondly its not twelve months its three years four seasons with the present one full stop Thirdly i did report a team and the only thing that happened was for the first time this cartel team finished out of the top four and we got in the door and the rest is history full stop Fourthly we starred in Europe because they sent a message too all clubs telling them testing would be stepped up with this team who got reported for Ephedrine winning the cup in a famous comeback. What this did was it gave us more seconds too think its about five in the Champs league and in the prem its two and if you still have the ball you have a broken leg. full stop Fifthly Spurs had the eight worse defence last year we got beat by tree teams in the bottom three also this year we have not dominated any team barring nine men Liverpool and it took us a long time too score another three goals , comer i cant stop my rant because the FA are hiding this and excepting Kolo Toures excuse he had a weight problem playing in the best defence in our league shows me its a waste of time but it still hurts when i see the tell tale signs and if Spurs are using it then Wigan 1 Spurs 0 would not happen trust me and we would not be 7klm less work rate than downhill Newcastle 121 klms and Norwich would not be the hardest working of them all . full stops.. So in future i promise to ignore what i see and no and like you i will call Defoe a greedy bastard Tom Hudds a slow oil tanker Lennon a road runner with no breaks and Harry tactically inept..... So good night and god bless too 114 ,klm Super Spurs FANS..... No i cant stop fuck off i love my team and all who play for her you suffer like i do hiding till the game is over and listen too me we are playing a team in the bottom three oh shit?and they will run and run till they win or draw so warn our players too TUT Top Up Tempo 121 klm is a must///////////// chevrons for DANGER

Running seriously short of CBs right now. May see Kaboul rested tomorrow to be sure he is good for Blackburn. Good to see Lennon as a possible starter and if he does OK reckon we will see him at RM on the weekend too in a 442:
Lennon Parker Modric Bale
Adebayor Defoe
Fancy that line up to put some goals away actually.

Davspur. We've all met someone like him. He is funny. He believes energy enhancing drugs are used, and I've no proof to say that this is wrong. So I listen, and wait. If I'm inclined to listen to the so called ITK's why should I treat Davspur harshly. So I say this: Davspur you do come accross as eccentric and I worry about your state of mind but if you are mentally balanced then I hope you can eventually expose this evil my friend.

Oct 20, 2011 at 8:13 AM | Unregistered CommenterKevTheRev

Right LADS . I will tell you about my mind a long time ago i was waiting for the train too my home town Widnes a bit drunk aged 18. Then across the tracks boomed a voice Davspurs are you coming to the Twisted wheel in Manchester i said noooo that's how we talk in Widnes not far from the bin dippers. The next bit was both exciting and stupid my train pulled in going too Widnes and the Manchester one also pulled into the Station. The lad who asked me too go too the allnighter was facing me on the other train and he shouted for me too swap trains the only way was too climb through the windows so i started to climb through the windows and it happened the fuckin trains started pulling away. What happened next is why my mind is one tracked no i never got split intoo i survived and then jumped 15 ft over a wall to avoid paying, Off we went too the All-nighter remember i was pissed or very merry when i went into the dance what greeted me was eyes staring at me from every angle drugged to fuck dancing and spinning doing back drops and wiping there hands on there sweaty faces and turning there gaunt faces black with the dirty sweat of the floor. I stood watching and thought i will get up and show them how too dance i started three spins back drops foot work and verry soon i had eyes looking at this Widnes lad pissed showing them all how to dance Black lads gathered they wanted too bash me but i just looked at them wih my pissed eyes an they got paranoid and turned away. The dance ended at 7 ocklock in the morning and i was the most popular lad amongst the white paranoid lads who offered me money too protect them on the way out of the club. The doors opened and there waiting was about twelve black lads who wanted money and blood i told the lads who numbered about twenty to stay together and if they started bash them . I got myself ready for a rumble and the next thing the door closed behind me and the twenty lads had vanished the bastards had left the sobering Davspurs alone so it was me against the Manxcs off i went past the first group nothing then the next nothing i just stared at them with my best rugged look and used my classy Spurs stile swagger then the last lot asked me what was up i said fuck all why they said okay and turned away. What happened next was a lesson i have used all my life the rest of the lads followed me and got bashed and robbed you see the moral too this tale is if you face your enemies you will always have there respect. You see they must have thought i was mental too take them all on and left me alone so Davspurs state of mind is Mental but stable and respected. COYS
